Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

I do feel unsettled about the price rises, but there is nothing I can do about it so I need to file it under worry about it in January.

We don't know if any suppliers have been paying 'list' price anyway - they may have negotiated different pricing based on their supply requirements etc. The whole 'what drugs cost' is so opaque, in America they do get gouged for brand name stuff (but they also have a way round it by using 'compounding' pharmacies).

My guess is that they will increase the 'list' price to keep Donald happy, but also they want bums on seats, so will be willing to negotiate with suppliers to give a volume discount. So we will see an increase, but maybe not as much as feared.

I bet however, that the sales lines are in meltdown at Eli Lilly as suppliers try and get preferential/deals locked in for the next few months. Novo Nordisk must be going FUUUUUUUUCK as they will have a huge upswing in demand that was not predictable.

DearRaven · 15/08/2025 17:26

5 stone loss is amazing! Well done @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden 👏

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 15/08/2025 17:30

Thankyou @DearRaven !@DearRaven ! It doesn't entirely feel real!

@kittykarate yes I'm imagining that there's a lot of that going on the last 2 days for Novo and for anyone in the UK whose business is based on MJ!!!

Kaggi9 · 15/08/2025 20:21

The talk of price increases is very unsettling. I may have reached a healthy BMI but this is/was something I was expecting to be on forever to be honest, as I know many people have talked about. It must be really worrying for those who still have a long way to go - I hope they let us know soon!

I’ve moved back down to 5ml this month (at my request), and did my first injection of that today so it will be interesting gauging what the suppression is like after having been on the 7.5. Fingers crossed I haven’t got too used to it!

Total lost: 38.1kg or 6 stone

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 15/08/2025 21:52

Well done @Kaggi9 let us know how it goes on a lower dose. Hope it works well for you 🤞.

Some light reflection .. 🪞

Today has been mostly spent in the loft organising clothes! I can't believe I have so many. I hate the way the insulation smells on a warm day.

I have halved the clothes though now and I've ended up with most to sell when the seasons change , good solid workwear wardrobe (can't believe shops are stocking autumn when we're in a heat wave) then need to sort through 12 pairs of jeans and some tiny shorts. I have got used to leg covers over the years not sure I could go back to bum skimming shorts, lol. Am I too old to show that much flesh.. ditto short dresses with spaghetti straps, I actually feel naked.

Found two jumpsuits I'd consigned to history but will fit me again now.. Wide legs, love that style.

Found some extra bits for my holiday wardrobe such as my favourite beach wrap that hasn't touched me in years. It's really nice to be able to touch on your old faves again.

If anyone has to go through this process definitely keep the thing in mind that if you are delighted to see it you'll likely wear it again. If you don't feel like that then you probably won't and should put it on the sell pile. I have some smart fire engine red trousers that I can't wait to wear again but also have no need for smart work attire so it's a real bind.

My wardrobe is very bright these days, big boho patterns and lots of colours. Im more like me than I've ever been since I've turned 40.. I threw out every cardigan and most things I owned that were grey today.. I'm done with grey.

I've just decorated my front room in daffodil white which is a beautiful yellow 💛

It was nice to take a break from decorating to do the loft visit.

.. Tomorrow my jobs list moves onto the garden 😁

I'm 10st 12 now so moving nicely down. I've decided to stay on this dose until the end of study now , I'm enjoying my gradual losses, and the strength of this is bearable. I'm going to need to catch up with strength training and toning once this period of adjustment is behind me.
I think I'm having good results because I'm also fasting each morning, I don't eat until 11.30am earliest. Fasting has always been positive for me I lost half a stone in 5 months doing it without MJ before, it's not a lot and it wasn't enough before MJ but needing to bed in healthy habits now in the 5 months left. I also can no longer live without my daily electrolyte water from vidrate. Yum hydration.

Anyone else planning something for their future health either alongside or beyond MJ?
X

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 15/08/2025 23:53

Yay for a good clothes sort! And fab to find things that fit again.

I've started an exercise programme which I've been really enjoying. It alternates weights/stretches /day off and I'm seeing progress. I'm also trying to get my steps up.

Working on reducing stress and getting better sleep isn't going as well. Ive got a lot of work related uncertainty but I'm hoping that settles soon.

@Earthgirl3971 having just moved house, I have also been sorting out clothes, I've gone from having a large dressing room to a double wardrobe. I had got rid of loads before I moved, but this time I have boxed up everything that is too big and put it in the loft. I'm not sure I dare to get rid of it yet. I haven't been a size 16/18 for over 23 years and it is highly possible I will be smaller yet!

I don't have a full length mirror and find it hard to imagine that I must be smaller and look smaller, yet I must. I've lost 10 inches from my waist for a start!

I need to explore exercise, I would really like to find a suitable strength training programme I can do at home. I've got a kettle bell and hand weights, but if I'm honest, I don't really know where to start. I also don't have much energy, which I'm quite sure is Mounjaro related, as when I lost 3 stone 5 years ago, I had boundless energy. This time I've lost 5 stone and really don't feel that.

tinyemmy · 16/08/2025 19:11

I was also worried to hear about price increases. I was really expecting to be in this for life / a long time, but now I'm not sure. I had originally planned to come down slower from 3.75 (doing 35/40 clicks of 5mg) but now I'm wondering if I should go down to 2.5, the pens I have will last for a long time that way but then maybe move to wegovy or the tablet when that is available.

I did my clothes sorting out a while back, I just went for it (thinking I can stay on mj and therefore I can stay this size), we shall see! I'm really enjoying being smaller. I hope that if I can stay this size and get used to smaller amounts of food that I will move my set point. Fingers crossed!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 18/08/2025 00:00

Evening all. @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden amazing loss! So happy for you!

It's been a good week for me on 10mg & saw scales move early I the week. I have be stuck at 107-108 what feels like a very long 7 weeks. My lowest weight this week 105.4kg!!!!
Delighted!
Really don't feel I have eaten any different this week so maybe MJ dies melt fat after all.

I am really worried about price hike. So sad that after finding something that finally works & come so far, I may fail because I can't afford to keep it up 😩
I am considering using the golden dose in pens now so I have a spare one at the end to give me time to consider options.
I mean gosh... Surely the black market and unsafe sellers are going to take over now and flood the market and we’ll see more unsafe practice as people do what they can to afford it.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 18/08/2025 08:30

Looking for positive news.

Has anyone done a questionnaire recently to reorder next pen?
I am really worrying about the price hike and the impact of people panic buying affecting supply. Also just feel uncertain of what Shemed will do for us.

Just did dose 3 of my 10mg pen so have complete reorder request.
I go on holiday in a week so really really want it to arrive before I go.Normally from point of questionnaire to delivery is just a few days for me.

I am also so worried that they will change us to wegovy or terminate the trial…

Just a knot in my stomach of worry about this. I realise I am completely depended on MJ now.

DearRaven · 18/08/2025 08:44

I did my refill questionnaire this morning too @Reginaphalangeeeee so fingers crossed SheMed have good stocks. We’re lucky in the fact that they do not prescribe without initial blood tests, so are unlikely to have been used for stock piling.

I triple checked and saved the terms & conditions that state they will not change the price from £99 during our 12 months, which is great. No word as yet to what the new price will be after that.

To finish with only positive news, had a big whoosh this weigh in as water retention has finally gone, total loss is now 16.4kg 😁

Bear2014 · 18/08/2025 09:06

I filled in my questionnaire yesterday a few days early as I realised I should probably sort my new pen before I go on holiday at the end of this week. I also asked to go up to 10mg so we'll see! They should really do it as my weight has hovered around the same point for the past 5 weeks and only reduced in that time by 0.5kg.

I'm pretty worried too but it does say in the T&Cs that it is locked in for 12 months. We're also in a unique position that they are getting something out of it from us, and will have lots of research data at the end of the year. They can stand to make a bit of a loss because of that.

The lower doses don't seem to be increasing in price as much as the higher ones, so I'm hoping I'll be able to carry on with a low maintenance dose next year and get 5 or even 6 doses out of each pen. It is annoying though as I was initially thinking that by doing that it would be cheaper than currently.

JBJ · 18/08/2025 09:09

Check in this morning, after missing the last one and spending a week in a field with friends, and quite happy to have only had a 2lb gain! Far too many bacon sandwiches consumed, plus more alcohol than I’ve drunk since January, but nowhere near as much I as would’ve had pre-MJ!

Back to reality now, and back on a much better diet.

I’m also very worried about these price increases as I was fully prepared to stay on this for the rest of my life if that’s what was needed to kept the weight off. Terrifying thought that it might not be an option due to cost, as I’m just not sure I can do it by myself. Fingers crossed for a tablet form to be approved very soon.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 18/08/2025 15:30

Thanks @DearRaven, @Bear2014and @JBJ

I just can not understand the sudden turnaround on pricing which seems an intentional ploy for someone to profit from in a Bitcoin like soar/crash! It feels so unethical to impact people mid treatment too. I was looking on another forum and so many pharmacies are out of stock of 10, 12 and 15mgs and lots giving varying advice on swooping to wegovy.
I haven't seen anything written about it acknowledging it by shemed?

Absolutely. We know that the pharm industry can be unethical but it stinks.

I'm naively (?!?!) hoping that the reason we haven't heard anything is that we are on the 12 month protected plan and therefore it doesn't yet affect us and there is nothing to tell. I'm very thankful that we are on this plan, if so.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 18/08/2025 21:27

I hope you are right @Bear2014!

I have a few things going on right now that are worrying me.
This is adding to it, I am concerned the pen won't arrive in time before I go on holiday.
I am a secret jabber so don't feel I can ask anyone to come and collect it when I am away.
I am worried we won't have control if they decide to move us on to wegovy.

I dunno... I feel so anxious about lots tonight I am wondering if a side effect of 10mg

tinyemmy · 18/08/2025 21:28

Check in day for me today and I jabbed 40 clicks of a 5mg pen, should be 3.33mg although according to Dosediary my peak is the same as it has been the last few jabs, I had intended to come down a bit. Not to self to do 35 clicks next week. Weight is pretty stable, going up and down the same couple of pounds, but I'm still weighing daily. I just don't trust myself.
I'm grateful that I've been getting the 5mg but started to dose less so I will have some doses leftover at the end of the study, although I don't want to risk feeling awful and putting the weight back on so not sure I will come off it. Thankfully I don't have to make any decisions yet. Part of me wished I could have gone up to a higher pen and then I could dose less now, but hopefully I will get down to 2.5 and then a 5 pen will last twice as long...

Dobbysdad · 18/08/2025 21:42

I've also recently redone my refil questionnaire (on Friday) and still not heard anything or had any money taken. I'm a bit worried!

You did the questionnaire Friday! Oh, now I am concerned. They normally take money very quickly after the questionnaire. Anyone out there got a prescription issued recently?

I'm worried. I usually have money taken the same day and then prescription a few days later. I think I've only got one dose left!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 18/08/2025 23:16

@Dobbysdad yes agree. Sorry you are also feeling this uneasiness! No email from SheMed?
Are you on any of the Facebook group pages about it? I have avoided them but maybe there is more info there?

I did my questionnaire Friday and it took until Sunday night for them to issue it - usually it’s a few hours! I am wondering if they’ve just been inundated with questions about the prices and it’s delaying them?

I’m so upset by the news of the price increase. I should be maintaining at the end of the study hopefully but I wanted to stay on long term. It isn’t feasible at these prices, though.

Bear2014 · 19/08/2025 07:24

@BananaramramSo they’ve issued yours now then? Hoping mine will be today if I did it on Sunday. Kicking myself i didn’t do it earlier as i’m leaving here Thursday night 😭

I haven’t had the Royal Mail email yet but I had the SheMed confirmation! I imagine yours will be today too. Fingers crossed for you!
