Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

2nd dose of 5mg this morning and all good. I've had a quiet day and normally I would be working out what to have for tea and obsessing about making the most of my calories so I can fit in something sweet. But no nada just was able to work through my day. It's really eye opening how much time I actually thought about food! I even forgot to pick up my lunch and grabbed a protein shake on my way into work and forgot to have it until a few hours after my usual lunchtime! I'm now thinking is this how it is for naturally thinner people! We have booked an amazing holiday for the summer which actually started my journey with SheMed and I am looking forward to being a smaller and more confident version of myself to relax in the sun!

Lostatsea10 · 27/02/2025 06:08

Morning all, sorry for the disappearing act- we’re moving in two weeks and it’s all a bit much! Felt much better since Monday, which I knew I would. I’m carrying on for now but I’ve just done my check in for my final week on 2.5 and injected into my thigh. Whether it will make a difference or not, I need to try, I don’t want to stop taking mounjaro, but can’t carry on like it has been. So fingers crossed!

Well done everyone for some great losses. I can’t believe what it’s like not to think about food constantly- this must be what other people feel like! I never knew!

Have a good day everyone, you’ll find me sat in a packing box 😂

Earthgirl3971 · 27/02/2025 06:55

Total loss 12.8lbs in just 5 weeks.
I'm definitely getting my first stone loss in the bag next week, first week in march 😁

Looks like I'm losing 2lb per week naturally with where I'm at now. Meaning I can expect to be around half a stone lighter by the time I go on holiday in April.

Im so impressed with the pain relief though, it's literally changed my life. I started my period this morning and didn't know I had it.

Remarkable!

I'm loving reading everyone's posts and seeing how fantastic this has been for everyone of us.

X

Has anyone successfully changed their injection day? I want to change from Monday to Sunday. Wondering how this works?

Yes I did, I just emailed them stating I wanted to change my date from x to y (i was originally Sunday and moved to Friday) and they changed it for me, really simple and easy to do.

bluesmartie83 · 27/02/2025 09:02

I'm needing matchsticks today I am struggling to fight the fatigue! Any ideas as to whether I'm missing something?

Monmonss · 27/02/2025 09:45

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I'm taking liquid gaviscon and windeze but nothing helps. So Sunday is usually the worst specially at night, Monday still mild side effects by Tuesday it's all gone. I can eat, I'm not bloated, no stomach pain. Like a miracle. Due to take my 4th dose of 5mg on Saturday and really hoping it will be good to me. Ordered a new pen and wrote at the end that I'm struggling and don't want to go up the dose.

Shmallow · 27/02/2025 11:00

Just checking in, took jab 7 this morning so am 6 weeks in and in total have lost 8.2kg/18lbs. I'm lucky to really not have any side effects at all, other than feeling windy and full if I eat too much or the wrong thing. I am definitely putting the loss this week down to how much I walked in Florida over half term so I think that is something I need to work in to my day. I'm quite sedentary as I work from home and am self-employed so don't have to move a lot!

Hope all's going well for people, sorry to see some are still having nasty side effects but it does at least seem we're all going in the right direction, loss wise.

BruhWhy · 27/02/2025 14:39

Weekly check-in!

Week 6, second dose of 5mg ✔️

2lbs loss this week, bringing my total loss to 16lbs.

Now in the 14st bracket!!! I was 16st exactly 6 weeks ago 🤯

Just out of interest to anyone skimming these threads to see how others get on, this is my weekly breakdown:

30th January. 218lbs. Week 1: -6lbs
6th February. 214lbs. Week 2: -4lbs
13th February. 211lbs. Week 3: -3lbs
20th February. 210lbs. Week 4: -1lb

5mg:
27th February. 208lbs. Week 5: -2lbs

ForPeachSake · 28/02/2025 07:21

Well W7 for me today and I have gained a lb! 😔 not quite sure how, I've been under my calories everyday but I have been really poorly and on antibiotics for two weeks so I'm assuming that will have something to do with it all, on to next week!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 28/02/2025 09:07

Morning!

Week 8 day 1 here - last jab of my 5mg pen. I'm starting ADHD meds tomorrow so instead of jabbing tonight I've risked jabbing this morning to give myself as much of a gap as possible. I am only working a half day so hoping to get through okay even if I feel rough later. I'm so nervous about the ADHD drugs and knowing what symptoms are due to what and even knowing "if" its working or if its "me" .... we will see!

Disappointing weigh in as I've stayed the same - and likely to go up next week as my period is due.... But I do know I've eaten far less than I used to the last 2 weeks in particular and nearly all UPF free so hoping it will even out eventually.

@ForPeachSake - me too with the strange week - I just have to think it will work itself out. I hope you are feeling better. I dont know but imagine antibiotics and things could cause you to retain weight and hopefully it will fall back off!

@BruhWhy Wow that's fantastic! You're doing amazingly!
@Shmallow Wahooo for 8.2kg and for Florida. I would love to go there sometime.
@Monmonss I very much doubt they will put you up as it seems they are keen to keep people on 5mg for a while. If nothing is helping is it worth getting a call back from Shemed?
@bluesmartie83 I haven't found the solution yet - I'm bad for the first 3 days and often spend a day pretty much horizontal. I'm hoping its easing as I adjust but not sure if I'm just telling myself that! I will see today/tomorrow. I don't really know the why of the fatigue either or if its just us adjusting to a new jab.
@Earthgirl3971 Yay! For weight loss and pain relief! It does seem to work in so many more ways than "just" making it easier not to overeat doesn't it.
@Lostatsea10 Good luck wtih the move! Hugely stressful time isn't it. And yes I am constantly thinking about how strange if this is how all those people criticising us for not "stopping when we're full" were feeling and no wonder they were finding it hard to understand!
@SnowieBear Yay well done you and your DH. How did the formal dinners go??
@tinyemmy Yay! Great to hear its still working! And thanks for saying about your daughter. I'm so nervous about starting it - more so than the MJ i think!
@OneAzureMaker WOW 2 stone!??! That's amazing. I'm glad the side effects are easing for you too.
@FollyDear - I know periods do affect my weight consdierably - definitely worth weighing again after it's over.
@bertieallsort How did the gym go? How often do you think you will go?
@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I'm trying to be as UPF free as possible and found I'm not craving my usual crisps and cheese and things which is bizarre.

Well done everyone - we're all doing so well keeping on with it and its so great to hear how everyone is doing.

Has anyone noticed any changes in measurements or in photos yet? I think I will be a while just because of my large starting weight but I am so allowing myself to hope it will be visible by summer.

I have some signs of spring in my garden - the bulbs coming through and the happy birds are making me feel so hopeful about this journey we are all on :)

Just done my fourth check in and my first 5ml injection. Had a bit of a mishap with injection number one, so I’m counting this as the start of my fourth full week. I’m 24lbs down and really pleased - I’d have quite happily stayed on 2.5ml! I’m a little apprehensive about the move up as so many have talked about side effects and all I’ve had so far is the feeling that something has died inside my mouth!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 28/02/2025 09:25

24lb!!!!! That's incredible. What a start you must be so pleased :)

You may well not get the bad side effects especially as you didn't when you started but always good to be prepared. 🤞

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 28/02/2025 12:19

Thankyou. I'm starting elvanse and really hoping it will help me function better. But after having side effects from MJ I've convinced myself ill get all the side effects from elvanse!!

I other news. It's now 4hours after my jab and I'm not sick/asleep 🎉😂

Thanks @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden for the moving well wishes! Though I will say, it’s here particularly I notice mounjaro working- usually I’d have been eating my way through the stress of it all, but not this time!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 28/02/2025 13:26

Yay that's fantastic! I've just noticed my, stomach feeling hungry and it's amazing I can think "oh yes I need lunch" but not have to do the "feed me Now" in response. Great to think I'm responding to physical hunger too.

I tried intuitive eating but this is showing me how much my intuition was broken. Of course it would work if you had a brain like this!!!

Hey 👋

Checking in, how's everyone?

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I think I managed to do well with the formal dinner: passed on the amuse bouche, nibbled the vegetarian starter, and had only two spoonfuls of the lemon posset dessert. Majored on the absolutely awesome and lean fillet steak with a bit of chimichurri, lots of greens and four chips. DH's comment: "Are you insane? Four chips?!?" 😂

Official joined Club 5mg today, it's W5D1 for me. Was 0.5kg down at my weigh in this morning, jabbed an hour ago.

So on tenterhooks waiting to see how my body will react, wish me luck 🤞

Overall, since I signed up first on the app mid January I have lost 7kg, so really happy with the progress so far. Just need to do it twice over again, 14kg to go 😅

Thank you @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden for the new thread

I start 7.5mg on Tuesday

i wondered if anyone else will be observing Ramadan ?
if so, are you jabbing at suhoor (dawn meal) or iftar (sunset meal)

thank you gang

Mazd323 · 01/03/2025 03:36

@Mumof5cubs did you want to go up to 7.5mg? I'm having no side effects on 5mg (due to take my 3rd dose on Monday) but very low weight loss so I'm wondering if they'll recommend I stay on 5mg or go up to 7.5mg.

I didn’t ask via the questionnaire but I would have done via a follow up if they’d not prescribed it.

I did email once I’d realised I’d not mentioned it but I don’t think the pharmacy saw my comments (based on the reply I received from SheMed)

Ramadan Kareem @Mumof5cubs

Not observing it, but curious how to see what your experience is, what do you think will work better? Suhoor would be my option if I had to, I think, but not sure if I would then feel it's a bit like cheating, iykwim.

I’m not sure on the time yet as I don’t think il be able to jab in the morning 4am as 3 of my 5 kids are up eating too
i think I’ll take it in the evening before sleeping and do the check during the daytime

i understand your point about ‘cheating’ i do respectfully disagree though . For me it’s essential medication and it’s essential for my overall wellbeing so no guilt attached. The same as if I was taking meds for a different issue.

i know that insulin breaks a fast but i wonder if MJ falls into the same category if taken during fasting hours - will do some research before Tuesday

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 01/03/2025 14:31

Morning!

The sun is properly shining and I'm having a garden day today and feeling so much more cheerful :) :) . The last 3 Saturdays I've spent between bed and sofa either with fatigue or nausea so this is feeling good! I took my jab early yesterday morning, had an energy dip around 5 and dozed for a couple of hours and then was fine in the evening. I had that slight awareness of nausea later morning while in the car but not anything that would stop me doing anything. I am so hopeful that doing another pen of 5mg will give me a break from side effects now!

@SnowieBear Hope 5mg is going okay. Yay for enjoying a fab meal without feeling the need to eat everything in sight!

@Mumof5cubs Hope you have a good Ramadan ❤️. Have you found many others or stories online of people on MJ through Ramadan? I completely agree its essential medication - I guess its useful it can be taken any time of day so it can fit in a bit easier. I'm so not medical at all but like any medication I would be keen to keep an eye that you are okay - especially with dehydration (and I guess blood sugar? I know MJ affects all sorts of things in the body doesn't it?)

I'm surprised you were given 7.5 - I thought their policy was to stick on 5 initially! I hope all goes well x

After my grump at not losing this week I have had a happy NSV. I completely expected given my starting weight (22stone) that it would be quite a few months before any changes were visible in my body or I'd get any of those moments - BUT I put on a dress today and instead of it being stretched over my stomach - its loose!!!

My gym induction went really well, I’ve signed up for some of their basic strength classes as I know how important that is rather than doing lots of cardio. I figure I’ll be more motivated to attend actual classes rather than just going to use the gym itself. I’m planning to go in 4-5 days a week, I do love it when I’m there but it’s taking the step out the door to get there that I struggle with!
Its my 3rd jab on Monday, is that when we get the questionnaire for the next prescription?
