Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

Happy Monday! I'm tasking myself with trying to drink more water this week! I'm terrible. Initially I was thirsty and easily drank 2ltrs a day. Now I'm struggling. I drink a couple of cups of peppermint tea and have reduced myself to 2 coffees a day but I'm not a big water fan. Any tips - I carry a big insulated cup but just don't think to drink it!

Try a smaller bottle. Mine is only 330ml so it's easy to get through, fill up then put back in the fridge for the next round.

Same and then sometimes I end up drinking too much in the later part of the day and have to get up in the night for a wee. I'm on my third 500ml bottle today so I'm pleased with how today is going. I find that I like it warm with vimto in it. I'm the summer I use a soda stream to make fizzy water.

There are some fruit teas that are specifically made for cold/room temp water, would add zero calories and give it some flavour for you, worth a try?

Hello everyone, been lurking the last few days and quietly celebrating your every win and commiserating with your challenges.

I didn't post my Friday weigh in update - lost 1.3kg in my first week on 5mg, so a loss on the previous week but 700g higher than my sneaky Sunday check. Still a really good loss, so not fretting.

My side effects abated as the week went on. Maybe it was because I was too busy with work and unable to spare time to check in with myself iykwim. Really underate towards the end of the week, despite my best planning. I think this actually slowed down my loss.

The second 5mg dose does not feel as brutal as the first, but suppression is still very high and I am struggling to get sufficient nutrients in. Really noticing the difference it makes in my workouts, I get exhausted much more quickly. So trusting the process and hoping this also stabilises quickly.

JBJ · 10/03/2025 20:35

2nd 5mg injection today. 1lb gain 😭 I have had absolutely no suppression at all since moving to 5mg and I'm praying it gets better for the next 3 weeks. Really want to see 4lb off to take me into the next stone bracket and under 20st for the first time in years!

bluesmartie83 · 11/03/2025 06:49

Thank you for all the water suggestions I'm going to try iced water with a couple of slices of lemon in it and see how that goes? It was a busy one yesterday with my son playing in a concert and my daughter having her college interview - I needed to be in two places at once! By the time we were finished I was feeling light headed from hunger so we ended up in McDonalds(I only had 6 chicken nuggets and a few fries). I am today feeling the effects - dry salty mouth and just feeling generally meh. Won't be doing that again! The food didn't taste as good as it used to almost like cardboard. Not sure if my tastebuds are more refined now 😂

Simi90 · 11/03/2025 11:47

Hi id love to join! I started early Jan, with an initial loss. Unfortunately haven't been doing so well the last few weeks and have had a few large gains 🙃. Thought this would be a good place to catch up with others on the program. I dont have Facebook so can't use the suggested group!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 11/03/2025 14:30

Hi all, still here and plodding along. Another hard week following my dad's funeral and diet and exercise not been my priority.
That said, weight loss on track still with another couple of Lbs off. Total loss is 12.2 kg since January in 8 weeks! Current weight 124kg

Just finished my second pen which was a 5mg. Although I stuck to 3.75mg to avoid any serious side effect through my immediate grief and the funeral.

My question... I complete the repeat prescription questionnaire this week (delayed 5 days from when sent it as didn't want a delivery while I was away).
I've not heard anything yet been approved or sent and concerned it won't arrive e in time for Sunday now. Anyone with up to date info on meds sent out timings?

RedHillLady · 11/03/2025 18:50

I took my first 5mg on Saturday and have had terrible nausea and bloating. I've struggled to eat and vomited a few times. Exactly the same as I was when I had my first dose of 2.5mg.
I stayed on 2.5mg for two months and the side effects eased in month 2 so I'm hoping it will follow the same way with 5mg.
I have managed to eat this evening and the nausea and bloating is a lot better.

Ah sorry to hear you're vomiting on 5mg but also glad I'm not the only one 🥲 I jab on a Tues, tend to be sick on a Thurs then feel crap until Sun. Only have Mon/Tues to feel human 🫠

Mieliwood · 13/03/2025 08:03

I completely vanished off the face of the earth.
Life's just been so stressful - I have a court thing approaching quickly that's taken years to get to this point and without saying much it's about one of the worst things that could happen to your child.
And then to top it all off, got called into a meeting at work on Monday- they're making redundancies. So I will find out today or tomorrow if I still have a job

But an update after just having my 8th jab. I have lost 10kg so ffarwhich im thrilled with. Although I was hoping for more. I think half my problem has been I haven't been eating, I've gone days without eating anything substantial (not jab related just stress) and my water intake has been awful. I'm currently fuelled by far too much caffeine and nicotine

I am hoping once I get the next two weeks out the way I can look after myself better.

Hope you are all doing well.....sorry I haven't had time to catch up with the thread

I submitted mine on Friday and pen was delivered Wednesday. I think the 2 working days to look at it is accurate now as nothing was updated over the weekend

I was prescribed the 5mg again and a consultation letter sent to GP to say level of weightloss is OK so maintain dose

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 13/03/2025 09:22

Sorry I disappeared too!

Last week I had an episode of diahrea at 3am ish (sunday) on my 5th jab of 5mg.

This sinday/mon/ it's been so much worse. Repeated watery D from 3am-5am and I've been so exhausted. Used the loperamide which helped but I've struggled.

Yesterday I was okay and now I've had most of a night's sleep without D and kept some food down I feel a bit more human. I was so surprised to get this on my second 5mg pen 😬. I will have to order a third another 5mg I think next week.

So sorry😔. I'm moaning about D but what you're going through is horrific. I am so sorry for you and your child. Good luck with the job today. It all comes at once doesn't it.

@RedHillLady and @themumformerlyknownas sorry you're suffering too. Yes I'm relieved it's the drugs and nothing more sinister but it's certainly not fun. I keep hoping that maybe the move to 5 is the worst... And we'll soon all be through it!

I have so much to lose and need to stick with it.

@Reginaphalangeeeee I'm not sure on timings but I've always heard within a couple of days of doing the questionnaire. Have you heard now? And of course the funeral and grieving has to take priority. It is such a hard period post funeral and I wish I could say something that would help but it's just horrid 😔.

@Simi90 Yes please do join us!! I'm just realising my post is a bit gloom and doom but I promise it isn't always!! It's a lovely bunch of people 😊.

@tinyemmy thanks for the advice last week :). I'm taking magnesium and have cut the caffeine back even more! I dot go up an adhd dose next week so hoping that next week things will stabilise on all fronts! I'm so chuffed for you that you are so close to "healthy" already!! Do stick around when you get to maintenance so we know what it's like 😊.

Yay for those not having side effecta and I'm cheering for all the losses. Those with gains - yes we know weight loss isn't linear and it happens sometimes but it's still disappointing isn't it. It will even out I'm sure.

Sorry I've not replied to everyone - it's been lovely to catch up and hopefully I'll be more present now. My check in is tomorrow so will be around tomorrow too!

How is everyone doing? Any nsv to share or thigns they're happy about over the last couple of months?

I've got my 1stone loss 🎉 need to celebrate that for a few minutes. Well done to everyone else who's made it through another week.

Feel dreadful today: I'm ill, and I'm never ill alone. There is always someone else that I must look after aswell sigh .. 😔.
Plus family drama exploding all around me requiring my love and attention. Why can't I ever just be ill and on my own.

I've took myself back to bed with a cup of tea until at least midday. Will think about my injection later on. Just need to rest a while and be a bit selfish.

This is incredible, well done! I know what you mean about never having an illness to yourself. Enjoy your quiet time which is absolutely not selfish by the way, it's completely necessary. Hope you feel better soon, these 2025 germs are brutal x

BruhWhy · 13/03/2025 13:10

Weigh day for me today and another 2lbs off. I'm now 4lbs off being under 200 pounds which is great and feels like a big approaching milestone.

End of my second pen today, I start the next 5mg pen next week so that's 7 weeks on Mounjaro with a total loss of 20lbs, or 1st 6lbs.

I have told a friend I'm on it now, I went round for a cup of tea the other night and she noticed my newly emerging jawline! She herself has struggled with her weight for a long time and she was SO supportive. Feels really good to have someone in on it apart from DH!

bluesmartie83 · 13/03/2025 17:09

My heart goes out to all of you who are having life struggles at the moment. I hope you are looking after yourselves and making a little time to just breathe. I read a really good article that says just 5 mins of breathing a few times a day can really help calm and reset. @BruhWhy we are very similar I've lost 24lbs and have 6lbs to go to be under 200lbs! This week has been a slog though and I keep seeing the same number on the scales which is hard tbh and I would have normally given in but not this time I'm in it for the long haul!

I'm on SheMed for the year so definitely still hanging about!
Suppression is still really strong on 5mg, third jab due next week and I will be requesting to stay on 5mg again in the questionnaire.
I'm a little worried about how I'm going to maintain as it is a struggle to get the calories in, I don't know if they will support going back down to 2.5mg for maintenance.
I still have over a stone and a half to lose to get back to my pre-covid weight so will still be losing for a while. Although at current rate that's only about 9 weeks, which would be just in time for my holiday in May.

ForPeachSake · 14/03/2025 06:38

Morning all W9 and final jab of pen 2, staying on 5mg for pen number 3. I had a 1lb lost this week so 1st5lb total loss so far.

I am off on holiday tomorrow so shall be interesting how this week goes at an all inclusive but not worrying about any potential weight gain as I’m going to enjoy and relax and I know it will come off in the following weeks. I’ve been told by SheMed to manually log my weight whilst I’m away by clicking on a previous week so I shall see how easy that is to do!

Hope everyone is okay.

Bananaramram · 14/03/2025 08:21

Jab number 9 today! I’ve been sick as anything with a cold all week, but my biggest side effect has been suddenly sleeping terribly - after 8 weeks of sleeping like a log.

I think I’ve had one of those ‘whoosh’ weeks, as I dropped 2.1kg this week. No idea how as I haven’t changed anything, but I won’t complain. 2 stone down now, just short of five to go

OneAzureMaker · 14/03/2025 08:33

Dose 6 of 5mg today. Apart from diarrhoea earlier in the week (which seems to be usual from Saturday to Monday), I've felt so, so much better. I've been able to do things, to cook, I haven't slept every afternoon and the dizziness and shivery feelings have passed. I even have a tiny bit of energy!

15kg down in total which is excellent. Hoping that the side effects remain minimal.

How are things going with you all? I hope those with side effects are getting some respite.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 14/03/2025 09:19

@Earthgirl3971 WAHOOOOOO for 1 stone!! Definitely a celebration to be had there :)

Sorry that you feel so ill though. Did you manage to rest? How are you today? It's so unfair when you can't just be left to be ill and recover isn't it.

@BruhWhy WAHOOOOO! Nearly 200lb is very exciting! ANd @bluesmartie83 so close!

@tinyemmy Very exciting. It must be strange to contemplate having to think about keeping the weight on! I think other providers would do 2.5 as a maintenance but having seen some of Shemeds posts elsewhere they seem to be quite stuck to the 5/10/15 doeses. Or maybe they'd want to titrate you off?? (Would you want that?) Like you say a couple of months or so away but I'm invested now 😁. I've got a lot to lose but I hope in 18months-2 years I will be wondering similarly.

@ForPeachSake Have an amazing holiday :)

@Bananaramram 2.1kg yay! 2 stone is amazing :) Hope the cold improves

@OneAzureMaker Oh I am so pleased you are improving!!! I think we've been mirroring each other with side effects it seems but yours were worse. That does sound hopeful that it will get better doesn't it? I really struggled with the diarrhoea this week and it left me so weak for work. I am hoping it does improve.

15kg though! That's amazing!!

I actually slept last night first the first time in a while so feel much better today. And no D for 2 days. But jabbed today so we will see.

My check in shows 1kg loss which is fab - but during the week it looked like 2kg. I guess it shows the reality of weight fluctuations with diarrhoea. Overall I'm losing its just a very "jumpy" graph!

I've passed 1 and half stone :). I was hoping to be under 20stone for my birthday (Sunday) but I'm a few pounds over. It is in sight though. I veer between being excited its working and so pleased I've lost and fear that there is literally so far to go to even get out of morbidly obese/ for it to notice/ to go down into normal clothes! On the right path though.

In other news my work has been manic and stressful and I have resigned from part of my job (will reduce hours and pay though eek). It is all a bit unpredictable - however on the plus side I think if I am going to have to accept these side effects for a while I will find it easier to manage them.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend. I know a few of us check in today/ this weekend.

Oh i can't remember if I said - they've sent me a replacement blood test!!! (For the Jan one) looks from the FB group that a few people have now. My bloods I did a week ago at the GP were hideous so I'm nervous now about doing them if it would impact my place on Shemed. Although I have a month's wait to speak to the GP so she obviously isn't fussed...! I am SO hoping that its another bit of data that will be fun to improve.

ChatGPT thinks its anemia and non alcoholic fatty liver - does anyone else have this? I was going to just start taking iron but again google suggests anemia due to severe obesity is dfifferent so Im going to wait to speak to the Dr. I have been so nervous about these results but on the flip side feel SO lucky that MJ is in place to help deal with all this. I'd have been so worried getting these results with nothing in place other than to "lose weight" to solve them.

Happy birthday for Sunday, @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden!

What fantastic reports all round X

Weighed in 0.8kg lighter this morning, I have lost 9.1kg since starting this journey and today is W7D1 for me.

So that's 1st 4lb in old money gone and I have reached my second milestone: I am just under 70kg at 69.9kg.

Filled in my questionnaire and fully expect SheMed to keep me on 5mg for next month.

vickypathsofglorysea · 14/03/2025 12:53

Hi all - following a very long journey that started in January, I now have my first pen (thought I hadn't received it because it was hiding in the packaging)! Both scared and excited to start. Am thinking of doing my first jab tonight in case of side effects.

I have about 5 stone to lose and I while i fully understand the mechanics of dieting I long for some healthy suppression to make the journey easier.

I do have a question for those that are already well underway - how do you manage special meals? Like, meals out and stuff? Do you just eat less?

kittykarate · 14/03/2025 13:41

I do have a question for those that are already well underway - how do you manage special meals? Like, meals out and stuff? Do you just eat less?

I'm just eating less if I'm going out to eat. I reduce the portion size up front by ordering fewer courses, not ordering or eating side dishes. And you know, just sometimes having to fight how I was brought up, and leave stuff on my plate.

It is easier to eat less when you're out - mainly because when you overeat on this medication you quite often feel very unwell and no extra chip is worth it.
