Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

In my experience it usually means "you look good" as in alert, healthy etc. So definitely fits with losing weight, but also fits when you're larger if you're smiley, glowing etc.

On mumsnet I've seen it's used as a euphemism for "you look fat" but I've never seen that irl!

I remember my Great Uncle saying to me when I came home from university for Christmas "You're looking well, and by that I mean you're fat"

So there's definitely that side to it, maybe very localised to generations/or location.

tinyemmy · 23/06/2025 13:14

Jab day and weigh in day today. Weight a bit up, expected after the weekend. It tends to go up by Monday, down a bit by Wednesday and lowest by Friday. Not hit a new low since 13th although not overly bothered but I had wanted to reach an arbitrary new goal. Overall I'm happy but I'd like today's weight to be be the top which is why I think I want it to go a bit lower. I probably need to relax a bit. That said I really want to eat today, I will see how this week goes but might increase by dose a little from 2.5

How is everyone doing?

kittykarate · 24/06/2025 11:05

My jab/check in is later today - so it's all a surprise until then!

I've just received the email saying that my 6 month anniversary is coming up, and they will be sending me a new blood test to check my progress.

kittykarate · 24/06/2025 14:15

Check in done! 1kg off this week, which is a really big week for me (normally I work in grammes). It's probably all the sweat from the heatwave last week. Anyway, it's all good, definitely under the 75kg sticking point now, just need to keep on keeping on.

DearRaven · 24/06/2025 19:36

Well done @kittykarate 1kg is a great loss & good to hear the tests are starting to roll out.

Sadly I put on again this weigh in - sigh

Hope everyone has a better week than me!

Jab 23 // 7.5mg dose // 13kg loss so far

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/06/2025 20:31

@JBJ Under 40 that's huge 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉. WAHOOOOOOO to not being morbid anymore 🎈💐🍾. And seeing 17 😊.

@kittykarate Wahooo yay for the kg loss and the blood test. How exciting. I'm wondering if mine will be delayed as my first one was finally resent out a few months in! It will be interesting to see the results.

Grrr for uncles. How rude.

@Earthgirl3971 I got the trust pilot email too and had got excited thinking it was a blood test! I'm not doing a review though. I might go and look what people have put! I've just seen another reddit post from someone unhappy they don't get to choose doses although I knew that before I joined tbh!! Reddit doesn't like shemed.

@DearRaven grrrr for a gain. What do you think is going on? Need to go up a dose? Or maybe a big woosh coming?? Or heat/period:salt:exercise related??

{mention:Tiny}@Tiny sounds like you're so close to being settled! . Well done with it all ❤️

DearRaven · 24/06/2025 21:01

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden not sure, though I have been strength training for a few weeks now so could be exercise & weather related. Been meticulous with weighing & measuring food since my last plateau to ensure I’m in calorie deficit & have been making good choices too - something I could not do at all pre-mj. Sugar & fat cravings are practically non-existent nowadays, grateful for that at least.

🤞 for a whoosh next week

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 25/06/2025 08:26

It sounds like you're doing all the right things! Well done on the strength training.

I had been doing my daily walk with my husband for weeks but that trickled off a couple of weeks ago as I was so overloaded with work. I'm hoping to put that back in place tonight 😊

OP posts:
Reginaphalangeeeee · 25/06/2025 23:57

Hello everyone, I have been off here a while -bit overloaded with work and planning birthdays/holidays.

Grateful for @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden summaries to keep me updated 😉

Thing going well for me now on 7.5. I weaned up to avoid side effects and did 6.5, 7 and then 7.5.
Had a bit of a whoosh of weight and hit my ‘under 110kg’ target for end of June early-whoop whoop!
Gosh just 2 more lbs and I will be I the 16stone category. This is mad! I was 21 stone 5lbs in January!
I am the lightest I have been since having children 13 years ago. I did get to this weight in 2020 but piled it on with lockdown rebound. This feels different though.

Next target is under BMI 35. (have 4-5kg to loose for that).
And getting to 100kg (8-9kg to go to that).

I am well aware that even after my 23 jabs and over 4 stone loss (20% body weight) I still weight more than some people starting this drug. I still find that hard but hey I have to focus and just keep going. Nearly 1/2 way there.
Hope I can get there by the end of the programs but know it is unlikely. Especially as exercise has been much less frequent. I need to commit more to it again.

Well done all. Really like hearing your progresses xx

DearRaven · 26/06/2025 14:51

@Reginaphalangeeeee if I’m reading correctly that’s a loss of over 4st! That’s amazing, super happy for you 😁

Was prescribed 10mg this time, fingers crossed this is the dose for me & I start losing again 🤞🤞

Reginaphalangeeeee · 26/06/2025 15:14

Thanks, Yes 4 stone and 3lbs I am nearly half way!!!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 26/06/2025 18:47

@Reginaphalangeeeee Wow that's fantastic! Lightest in 13 years is some achievement :) As you know I completely "get" the whole flit between "WAhooo huge amount of weight loss" and "omg this is still bigger than many people start". And nearly half way there is amazing! I don't think I will be finished at the end of the year but I think I will only be 2-3 stone away which is far better than the start of the year!

@DearRaven Good luck with the 10! And hope it brings results for you.

I finished work early today and had a spare hour and decided to go for a walk and as I was walking just thought how lovely it was to be able to walk and that this is now a completely normal thing for me to do! This really has been lifechanging. I had been walking daily for a while and then when work/life got crazy had stopped so this week have taken myself out a few times and hoping to get back into the rhythm. It's very strange being able to just "go for a walk". It used to be exhausting and painful and cost me so much energy - people that say all this "just eat less/just exercise" have no idea.

Well done @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden walking is so good for you. I try and get 10,000 steps on average per day (extra when in the office, less at the weekend).
I'm on week 4 of 2.5 and really struggling with the need to eat. I'm on about day 4 of overeating. I just can't see to stop. I've felt quite tired which has always been a danger zone for me. I haven't been binge eating so that's something, but definitely eating too much. I'm not sure how long to leave it before putting my mj back up, I don't think to 5 (I'm on 2.5) but something. Interestingly, according to Dosediary there hasn't been a lot of difference in levels over the last 3 weeks so I don't know why I'm eating so much now (other than the extra tiredness). I wonder maybe halfway between 2.5 and 5 (45 clicks?). What do you think?

Shemed January Starters - Thread 3
OneAzureMaker · 27/06/2025 08:14

I seemed to stop getting notifications for this thread, so a quick read through and I'm caught up. It's lovely to hear your news and see how you're doing.

Today is my first jab of my 3rd 7.5mg. I'm still struggling with a really dry mouth and occasional diarrhoea on 7.5mg. 1kg off this week and down to 103.4kg from 130kg, BMi down from 44.1 to 35 exactly!

I use weight loss tracker as I love their graphs and they also do a monthly summary so you can see exactly how much you've lost in a month. Along with charts that have a sort of dial so you can see your weight and BMI going down.

I've lost a total of 27.9 kg, though the depressing thing is that for a normal weight I need to lose a other 29.1kg, so not even halfway!

My next target is to get below 100kg which would be truly amazing! I've had to buy a few new trousers as they were falling down!!

OneAzureMaker · 27/06/2025 08:19

And I've just had an email from shemed saying that they are sending out my 6 month blood test.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 27/06/2025 08:37

Morning!

@OneAzureMaker lovely to see you and I am feeling that we are at the same stage - I'm on first day of 3rd pen too. Wahooo for 35bmi. You're straddling obese 1 and obese 2.... Bmi 35 is one of my next goals 🎉

And yes I have the blood test email too!!! I think it must come on the first day of 7th pen/jab 25!!

Strange to think we're pretty much half way and to look back. I was so nervous starting and wasn't sure it would work etc. And coming through all those side effects!

I've lost 26kg and have just touched into under 40bmi - so not morbid! It happened during the week but today's my first "official" Not Morbid weigh in day 😁. I still have 43kg to go 😳 but I knew it wouldn't all be gone within the year. But it's getting there and it's all making a difference.

@tinyemmy 10,000 steps a day is impressive! Are you active in your job or do you intentionally walk/run to fit it in? I'm not at that stage but I've gone from very very little mobility (under 2000 steps) to being able to walk 30-40mins with ease which has been a huge change!

I really don't know about a maintenance doses - i guess eventually you'd settle and leave it with a bit of fluctuation each week. Grr for binge eating coming back. I think "normal" people would eat more sometimes but I guess it depends how you feel and if it's triggering you to want to do it more? I don't really know. Or maybe with the tiredness your body is sayingnit needs it. Or periods? You'll be the expert and can tell us when we get there 😁.

On a related note.. Have you sent of thee adhd forms?? I think elvanse can also be given for binge eating so I was happy when they prescribed that to me....

I feel aligned to you (just 5-6kg more) tracking your losses. I was 136kg starting. Now 108.9kg.

Great to know you have stayed 7.5mg for a third pen. Just been sent my second but happy with it.

Lovely seeing your progress, it feels like me a month or two in the future.
That sub 100kg is approaching for you. Exciting!!!

Edited

Well done on the official not morbid, that is incredible. The difference you must feel!

My job is sedentary but I walk from Waterloo to the City on my in office day so there and back gets me 10,000 steps plus popping out for coffees (and a routine mammogram!) got me to about 15,000 yesterday. I definitely have to make an effort to get that number in, but when I'm not in the office I walk the kids to school which gets me about a third of the way so I just need to get a 30-40 minute walk in to tick off the rest. Friday is easy as I do the school run again in the afternoon and walk to martial arts, plus I did a workout today as my usual class isn't on tomorrow. I feel like I'm on fire, I can do full press ups now and hold a plank, some of it will be strength gains but also being 3 stone lighter makes a huge difference, so noticeable when I pick up a suitcase for holiday (that used to be on me!!!).

I also had an email about a 6 month blood test, sadly they never did send the original so I have nothing to compare it to. My medical did a load of blood tests a couple of weeks again and they all came back great, I doubt there will be much movement in a month by the time I return this one.

ADHD forms are in with Dr J but sadly 18-20 week waiting list so it will be mid to end of September by the time I'm seen and then another 8 weeks for medication so more like November potentially before I'm on that, but I can't wait to try the Elvanse, it is likely my only way to potentially get off mj, although I will probably stay on it. I just can't risk the binge eating coming back. I'm going to try and curtail my eating myself over the next week and see what happens and if I'm still struggling then I will up my mj the week after.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 27/06/2025 09:20

Another week and another pen done! I’m onto my third 7.5 next Friday.

sitting here in size 14 shorts (elastic waist!) - last summer I was in size 22. I’m realising I definitely have body dysmorphia because I feel like I still look enormous - but I didn’t think I looked that big before (and looking back at videos I definitely did). Brains are a funny old thing.

Down 24.6kg and so close to that 4st mark!

I so get this. I bought a pair of size 18 jeans in Primark and they are slightly too big, I expected the shop assistant to ask why I was buying them as surely they wouldn't fit! I don't think I've ever been able to fit into something from Primark before!

Yes! It feels so weird - I was a 14 very briefly over ten years ago, but I did it in a very unhealthy way, so knowing I actually fit again this size is mad to me.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 27/06/2025 16:08

Wow I will be excited about an 18 too! I'm not quite sure what size I am now. I think probably a 24 (and yes that's after a lot of weight loss 😳)

Here's my graph @Reginaphalangeeeee . It looks smoother than when you zoom in!

I've got so far to go I hope it keeps tracking down and doesn't slow down too soon.

There are some amazing stories on here and it’s great to hear of everyone doing so well on their journey!

My next pen will be no.7, so if the predictions are right, I’ll get my blood test email too! I have to say, I’m looking forward to seeing the impact of the weight loss.

Today was pen 6, jab 3, so my 23rd jab. I’ve lost 34.9 kg, or 5 stone and 7lbs. My BMI is 25.5. I can’t believe I’m in touching distance of a healthy BMI! I know what people mean about still seeing yourself in the mirror as you were before though, as I definitely think I look much heavier than I probably am now!
