Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

Well done and it sounds a very useful medical and Dr. I don't think our home scales are very accurate for the different percentages but are useful for showing trends. And it's reassuring that you're healthy!

Good luck with this week and I hope the adhd process goes smoothly for you ❤️.

Food wise - I suspect the odd packet of something is within the realms of what normal people do? It sounds like you can relax a little bit of so close to goal and scales are down. It must be strange adjusting to that new world and working it all out - (can't see a hug emoji!)

Morning all!

Friday is my jab day. I'm 17stone 11 today which is exactly 4 stone loss! And very nearly "not morbid"! I've done my form and am staying at 7.5 for a third month as I'm still losing around 1kg a week on average.

Having said that - this last 10 days I stayed roughly the same with a little blip of an increase.... Then got my period yesterday and lost 1.1kg "overnight"!! If I'd weighed in yesterday it would have looked like I'd stayed the same.

@DearRaven Yes! I am sore the next day each time I go on a long walk... I think for me moving from sedentary to any activity is a bit of a shock to my muscles but it's good!

@Earthgirl3971 Hope shemed has some answers for you. If not try your GP just incase there's something else going on. Clumps of hair falling out does not sound good at all.

Life's been crazy busy here with work (some evening work to get the project done) and child doing gcses. I'm exhausted... But in the past this would have led me to binging or to just not sustaining weight loss. I do love how this just ticks away in the background and hasn't affected my ability to eat well (OK may have had a couple of chocolate digestives a couple of times but I'm calling that within the bounds of normal!)

Has anyone heard about a 6month blood test yet? I'm wondering if I'll get it or they'll delay it as my first one was 3 months late!

My gosh what a tremendous loss.! Well done Hun. You deserved those few chocie biccies.

Think you have to have nice tasting things in moderation it keeps you on the straight and narrow.

I think when I talked about my hair I probably should have given some context which is that I only wash it once a week which is probably why my hair shedded so much in the shower as there's hairs were already loose. ☺️ I'm not too worried as I haven't lost anymore hair now and I didn't raise it as a side effect just yet as they don't have a minor reporting line do they. Everything goes directly to a clinician. The achy teeth were weird though and painful ! I've made sure I've drank a couple of bottles of water per day since then.

I've lost another 1.6 lbs now bringing me down to 11st 9lb from 14st .3lb.!

I'm 5 foot 4 in height.

I really expected more people would start commenting on my weight loss by now but they haven't . Strange! So many people doing MJ now that perhaps its very obvious what I'm doing and no need to say anything.

I'm doing this for me noone else ☺️

X

OneAzureMaker · 13/06/2025 08:27

Weigh in today and a request for a new pen. I've also requested another (3rd) 7.5mg pen. Minimal loss last week, but 1.6kg this week, taking me to a total of 25.5kg - a whole sack of potatoes!

I carried a 12kg bag of dog food back from the shop last week and thought, I've lost this twice over! BMI is now 35.5, done from 44.9 and according to the weight tracker app 16 kg to overweight, somewhere I don't think I've been since my teens! But perhaps it is within reach!

I've really felt that my body has been changing too this week, 8 inches off my waist, 7 from my bust and 6 from my hips. I have also bought some new knickers as mine kept falling down!!!!

It's always lovely to hear all your news. Well done everyone!

OneAzureMaker · 13/06/2025 13:16

And unusually for new prescription request day, I have already heard back and they have approved another 7.5mg which I am pleased about

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 13/06/2025 16:50

Yes I heard back v quick too!!

I'm just behind you at 23.8kg lost but I'm still "morbid". Next week I think I will be under 40...

You are doing amazing and must really be able to see the results now! I love the idea of lifting a 12kg bag. I might have to go looking next time in in a supermarket!

Doing amazingly!

It is worth having that visual and physical reminder of how much something actually weighs I think!

And also, I wasn't out of breath carrying it back, and I know I would have been before! It is shocking to imagine that I used to carry twice that amount of weight with me all the time.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 13/06/2025 17:22

It's crazy isn't it. No wonder we were tired. It really is easier being slim. And people judge us when just getting about is twice as hard!

Evening everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve been on here, but there are some fantastic stories! I’ve been wondering about the blood test thing as I’d be really interested to see if the weight loss has made a difference.

I’ve just had the last dose of my first 7.5ml pen and they’ve prescribed another. Wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be, but I think I’ve been one of the lucky ones with no real side effects.

People are really noticing my weight loss now and telling me I look ‘well’ - I think that must be the polite term 🤣

Week 21
Total weight loss: 33.1kg, 5 stone 3lbs or 73lbs

How are you feeling at 5+ stone lighter?

“You look well” is such a beautifully British phrase 😂

I grew up in the US but my mum is English so when I moved here in my early 20s, there were a lot of things I had to get to. My grandad used to say that to me every time I saw him and after he died, my cousin finally broke it to me (kindly!) that he thought I looked very well-fed haha!

But now I’m getting “you look well” from colleagues at work and it means something totally different!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 14/06/2025 09:06

In my experience it usually means "you look good" as in alert, healthy etc. So definitely fits with losing weight, but also fits when you're larger if you're smiley, glowing etc.

On mumsnet I've seen it's used as a euphemism for "you look fat" but I've never seen that irl!

You are right - but in this case they just don’t actually want to say ‘you’ve lost weight’. I did see someone last weekend I hadn’t seen in a while, and he was much more blunt, with a few expletives thrown in commenting rather loudly about the ‘s* loads of weight I’d lost! It did make me laugh!

How am I feeling? Well, with about half a stone to go until I have what is classed as a healthy BMI, I feel very different - not just weight wise, but in general. My skin is better (I have rosacea and that has really settled down) my periods are much less of an issue and my arthritis is much less inflamed. I’m making good choices about food and food is no longer an emotional crutch. I used to eat when I was happy, when I was upset, or just because I liked the sensation of eating, but now I’m not bothered. We went out for a meal last night: I had steak and salad and didn’t finish it. Two of our group had dessert and I just wasn’t interested - I didn’t feel like I was denying myself, I just didn’t want it.

The benefits of this injection are more than just suppressing appetite, and it will be interesting to see how things move forward in regard to long term maintenance. I can see it being something I might be on forever at a lower dose if that’s allowed, and that’s for the all round benefits!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 14/06/2025 10:37

Ha love the description of your friend with the expletives. I had a colleague I only see every 6 months be very vocal in a corridor in public which surprised me when most people seem cautious to mention it!

Wow so exciting to be so close to healthy! That must be amazing. It's lifechanging isnt it 😁. I have come round to thinking I might need to be on it long term for Inflammation reasons. I love reading about all the amazing things it's/we're doing.

Weigh day today - 4th jab of 7.5mg and been prescribed the same for my next one. 1.1lb down, which I’m happy as anything with as only got back off holiday yesterday and have eaten far too much all week, plus very constipated! Need 1.9lb off next week to take me into the 17st bracket!

Good luck for this week ladies :)

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 16/06/2025 09:12

Wow that's fab @JBJ! Amazing to be able to be free to eat as you like and still lose weight on a holiday 🎉

Hope you had a fab holiday and I'm sure you'll be there next week as it all settles down post holiday!

Thanks. I found I was eating much smaller portions of all the wrong foods, so no damage done overall, apart from constipation from not having enough fibre! Lovely holiday, but quite nice to be back home and back in control.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 16/06/2025 09:39

Hah you might lose a ton of "poop weight" over the next few days.... 😂 . I felt like that after my last period it seemed never ending after a week the other way (possibly tmi!).

I do love that MJ curbs that desire to completely overeat so we can still enjoy feeling "free" to eat without the panic. Its completely different isn't it. I'm glad you had a good time and know what you mean about getting back into your own routines.

OP posts:
tinyemmy · 16/06/2025 12:30

Check in today. Weight up a bit but that's ok. Heavy weekend of eating and that's what I wanted - to be able to eat more freely at the weekend. I weigh in on Mondays for SheMed, Wednesday for Slimming World and I'm thinking Friday to see where I am ahead of the weekend. I want to wean off daily weighing but want to stay on top of it.

Fourth 2.5mg so this should now be the lowest it titrated to so I will see how this week goes and whether I need more. I will stay here for at least a month and then might try and go down a bit, e.g. 2.1 or whatever the clocks will be so that I can very slowly titrate down until I find the perfect dose - still get all the inflammation etc benefits but on the lowest dose that manages that, also longer term it will save me money, hopefully! Although I'm equally comfortable being on 2.5 or above if that is needed! It's all to play for this week!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 16/06/2025 14:12

Ooh exciting! Well done, and sounds like A Plan!

Not sure how long it has been available but there is finally a weight loss graph 📉 in the SheMed app 🥳🥳

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 18/06/2025 20:39

Yay for the graph! I still prefer my shotsy one (partly as I wasn't fussed about the shemed one and I'm clothed!) but I'm really glad shemed has a graph too as it was silly they didn't have one and I like looking at it 😁

Jab 23 tomorrow - wild that I’m nearly halfway through! This really was the best decision I have ever made. I’m down nearly 24kg and starting to see muscle definition in my arms - though the belly is determined to hang on! I have another 24 or so to get to my ultimate goal weight, but honestly I think I’ll be ready to maintain before then. I’m a size 14/16 now.

Been very lucky to have virtually no side effects apart from constipation. One exception was this past Sunday, I bought ‘fiery cheese loaded wedges’ from Costco and took them to a friend’s as we had a craft night. Took two days for the 💩 to go back to normal!

My own fault - got cocky! Learned my lesson 😂

Meeting up with an old friend for the first time in a year today, worked together when I was 22 and have met up once a year since to go to a show. Today it’s Hamilton - can’t wait to be comfortable in a narrow theatre seat!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/06/2025 07:11

@Bananaramram Yay for muscles and shrinking. Hope Hamilton was fantastic!!

I'm jab 24 and yes strange to think we're very nearly half way! Definitely best decision I've made and my husband (who was initially nervous of the cost) has mentioned this a few times recently.

I weighed in and lost a pound - I'm literally on the bmi 40 line now! I'd hoped to push over it so I can say "Not Obese" but it's coming. Hopefully next week!

If I lose what I've lost already again this year (I hope I do, I know it will slow at some point) I'd be so happy. I'd still be obese (!) but only just by half a stone or so which from my starting point would be amazing! I would look a different person!

Hope everyone else jabbing today is going okay!

I've got some fatigue and broken sleep but I've got a lot going on. I do feel as if I'm sleeping lighter on Mounjaro so stress etc is more easily affecting sleep but I've seen others say it helps sleep so who knows! Or maybe it will regular better when I've lost a ton more weight!!

Oh and I went out with friends for a meal which I don't do often and although I dont have suppression like I did so I could have chosen a "bigger" dish it wasnt too hard not to and I was happy not having the pudding. It did call and I could have had it... But MJ meant I didn't feel that "need" to have it with the others. So a victory!.

OP posts:
JBJ · 23/06/2025 09:28

Weigh in day! 5the jab of 7.5mg, 3.4lb loss this week! I’m finally in the 17’s and a BMI of under 40, which is an incredible feeling. Another 3.9lbs and I’m at 4st loss in total. Totally life changing.

Earthgirl3971 · 23/06/2025 12:34

Got an email through yesterday. Title 6 months review.. I thought, oh wow I get to sit down with a clinician and talk about my progress, invited for a follow up blood test.

Open email. 'please take a moment to review us on trust pilot'

😴 It's good isn't it girls but they are really missing the trick when it comes to supporting us emotionally after all the hard work we are putting in to make this change.

I feel as if they are just concentrating on their brand reputation rather than you as a person. So guess what, my 6th monthly trust pilot review will need to say those things.
