Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

Wow @Kaggi9 that's incredible!! Over 5stone is truly amazing. And pretty much scraping healthy bmi, 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉.

Any hints or tips? That's consistently high weight loss well done..

What's your plan - presumably you'll need to slow the weight loss? What pen are you on and all that? ( I won't be at maintenance until next year but love hearing how people are doing it so I'm prepared!!)

Thank you!

I think the first important thing to remember is that we are all different and our bodies react to the jab in different ways. I’m one of the lucky ones - the suppression hit on day 1 of the 2.5 pen, and has been there ever since. I’m currently on my second 7.5ml pen.

I’ve lost pretty much every week, except for three weeks on the trot, which was when they put me up to 7.5ml. However I actually put the reason for that down to a rather nasty period as my eating didn’t change.

I now eat a low carb diet. My body has always struggled with carbs, and whenever I reduce my intake, I lose weight. I’ve always craved them though, which has made it hard. I don’t crave them anymore! The jab has also stabilised my blood sugar (I’ve previously had a few issues with it) and massively improved my menopause symptoms and rosacea.

My weight loss has already slowed, and I’m slowly starting to increase my calories to get to my maintenance level. It will be interesting to see how Shemed do the whole maintenance thing!

JBJ · 30/06/2025 09:24

Check in day - 6th dose of 7.5mg. 1.3lb off this week, which has surprised me as I feel bloated and horrible at the minute, plus I’ve eaten way too many ice lollies this week! I blame the weather! 3st 11.4lb lost in total - can’t wait for that 4st to show.

22 injection rooms so far, which means my halfway point should be in another 4 weeks - would love to be at 4.5st loss by then, which is about half of what I’m wanting to lose overall (well, I need to lose a bit more if you go by the NHS healthy BMI guidelines, but my personal goal is 12.5st so as I can start riding again).

Good luck this week everyone!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 30/06/2025 09:29

@Kaggi9 Well done 🎉🎉 And yes I'm curious about maintenance looks. You've got this far so it will be the exciting next step. I know @tinyemmy is there at the moment and working it out!

@JBJ Yay soooo close to 4 stone! 🎉. I'm half way this Friday which is a strange feeling - having made so much progress but so far to go! I'm hoping to get to 4.5 stone but may not quite!

I weigh quite regularly and was really surprised mine went up for a few days... And then dropped back. I think for me it was water retention in the heat after a bit of googling. Our bodies are strange...

Jab day today, number 26, another 2.5. So far I'm staying at maintenance. I will keep monitoring. I feel like it's a bit of a comfort blanket, that it's not doing much because I can eat but I also know if I didn't have it I could eat a lot more so I'm not against going up and down the doses as needed (and in smaller increments) so if I gain this week I might go up to 35 clicks (5mg pen). I'm not ready to come down yet but when I do I think it will be in 5 click increments with a few weeks in between and I'm not against staying on mj for the foreseeable future

Well done on the weight loss ❤️

I've had a sneaky weigh and... I've lost 20% of me so far!!! 🎉

Amazing @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden !! That’s brilliant!

DearRaven · 01/07/2025 16:10

Last 7.5mg dose taken, 0.3kg loss this week.

🤞keeping everything crossed that I’m someone who just needs the higher doses & that starting on 10mg next week gives me a boost 🤞

Well done on all the losses & milestones achieved so far. Hope everyone is keeping as cool & hydrated as possible in this heat!

tinyemmy · 01/07/2025 17:21

Woohoo! That is incredible. Well done @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden 🥳

kittykarate · 01/07/2025 18:56

Had my royal mail notification f9r the blood test, so it's on the way. Check in day for me, sadly 100g on. I'm blaming the heat.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 02/07/2025 04:17

I absolutely think it's the heat! Yay for the blood test. It will be so interesting to see how everyone gets on.

OP posts:
tinyemmy · 02/07/2025 19:11

@kittykarate I agree with @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden the heat is not great for weight loss!
My blood test is also arriving tomorrow. I'm in the office and out in the evening. It might need to wait until Monday as based on the last one you couldn't send on Friday.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/07/2025 17:20

Oooh I got my blood test emailsaying they're sending it out today! The email says it can be sent anytime... But I'm not sure I want to risk them not doing it properly like last time.

My check in - still losing but rate seems to be slowing down a bit. Still - 20% body weight loss and 4st 5loss so good going so far!

I've booked a week in Scotland for Easter and I'm determined to get my walking up by then so we can walk a lot - I'm really excited.

But also very tired. Mix of mounjaro seeming to mean I don't sleep well and work crazy (half of which is unpaid and I'm not well paid anyway) meaning I am on a constant go and just need to stop!!

OP posts:
OneAzureMaker · 04/07/2025 17:23

A gain of 300g here, but may be a loss, as I was away this week and returned this afternoon to log in having only ever logged in in the morning prior to eating or drinking anything. In fact, given what I've eaten this week I was impressed it was only that much!!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 04/07/2025 17:25

I definitely weigh more in the afternoon and evening! Sounds like a result!

OP posts:
kittykarate · 05/07/2025 17:51

Blood test results back, slightly worse results than January. Not stressed though, my first test was fasted at 6am, this one was 10am after breakfast. No new 'red' results so that's a win. This time there were slightly more tests, including a thyroid function (normal)

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 07/07/2025 00:58

Oooh interesting to have them back! I guess slightly worse will be within the bounds of likely variation day to day maybe? And no new red results is good!

I'm doing mine Wednesday and already a bit nervous. I found it difficult to fill the vial when I did it (twice... Originally in Jan and then the repeat one in march as they hadn't got my results.)

I had a thyroid one "first" time but then remembered my results are end of march so they might have changed it by then!

OP posts:
tinyemmy · 07/07/2025 07:45

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I think I will do mine Tuesday or Wednesday. I've had a chaser and now seen that I could do it any day. I was waiting for a day so I could get it in the post to arrive on a weekday.

Weigh in today and maintenance going well. I still want to drop another pound to keep my wiggle a bit lower, I seem to put on up to around 2.5lbs during the week. Renpho has my BMI as 21.8 this week. Subcutaneous fat still orange and I will never lose enough weight to reduce this but hoping my 2 - 3 strength workouts per week adjust the ratio.

Jab 27 2.5mg definitely continuing on this for a bit. I've seen that Oushk are now only accepting people with a BMI of over 25, I will have to rethink maintenance when my SheMed offer ends as I will be on 2.5 or 5 to continue maintenance so staying with SheMed will not be cost effective. Pen 8 on order so still 6 more pens to go!

JBJ · 07/07/2025 10:39

Weigh in day - 0.8lb loss, so still need 1.8lb for my 4st! This last week has been hard. Food noise has come back with a vengeance and I’m so hungry. Amazed I’ve had a loss at all tbh as I know my portions have been bigger than usual.

Off to a festival this week (and the next weekend after too!), so really hoping I can keep control whilst camping in the middle of a field surrounded by food and drink stalls! I’ve got a Morrisons delivery arriving soon, and all meals planned out though, so hoping it goes ok.

Just done my refill questionnaire so hoping I get moved to 10mg instead of a 3rd 7.5mg pen 🤞🤞

bluesmartie83 · 07/07/2025 19:55

I’ve had a really busy few weeks with the kids coming to the end of the school year. My daughter has just finished her GCSEs so we’ve been supporting her through this although she’s taken it all in her stride! My son has been everywhere with his brass band, scouts and friends - I’ve also fitted in a short all inclusive trip. I’ve not lost any weight over the previous 7.5mg pen but put it down to not really watching what I ate! They have put me up to 10mg which I am apprehensive about because I am off to Florida in 2 weeks but didn’t notice until it arrived. Annoyingly im going to have to take 2 pens to Florida because I will have one dose left - I was contemplating taking the new pen and leaving the used pen to use when I get back. Not sure if that would cause an issue? I don’t want to have to put the pen into the fridge when I’m there because we are with my husbands family and they don’t
know I’m using Mounjaro. I’m now thinking I really need to track what I eat because I’m falling into bad habits again! What apps do you find is the most accurate and less time consuming. I have a tendency to over analyse things and I just want to keep a track and not have it such a big part of
my journey. I’m also looking for protein shake ideas? I don’t like huel by something that i can take to work for lunch. My friend recommended y food but it’s quite high in calories?

sorry for long post and I have really been re motivated reading all your posts that I’ve missed. This is a fantastic thread

kittykarate · 08/07/2025 14:43

Weigh in day for me, and a 1kg off! My weight loss very much goes... chunky loss, up a bit, down a bit... repeat.

@bluesmartie83 according to the storage rules, a pen can be out of the fridge for a month, and/or open for a month. So your old pen would have been opened more than 30 days ago by the time you get and that is in theory the 'best before' date. It probably won't kill you as long as the liquid is clear and haze free.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 10/07/2025 07:12

@kittykarate 🎉 for a kg off that's fab!

@bluesmartie83 my daughter just finished GCSEs too. It's certainly been a tense few months here. I'm exhausted too! I'm v excited for you you're off to Florida.. We're camping 🙈. I'm not sure what to suggest about the pen - as Kitty said I think it's 30 days once opened. If you took one with you and started it just over a week in I think it might still be okay ie day 9,16,23,30. So that wouldn't need to be in the fridge at all. I'd probably personally be okay a few days over too. You can also change your jab day if it helps.

Have the best time 😁.

@JBJ Did you get moved up? You are sooo close to 4 stone well done 🎊. I think it's another warm weekend where I am and I know my weight goes up a bit in the heat and it probably will with different food - none of which mean you've nec gained weight I'm keeping fingers crossed if it looks like it's gone on it all wooshes off for you when you get back!

@tinyemmy great to hear your maintenance updates 😊. I think I read somewhere else renpho might not be enitrly accurate for fat percentage (I think it was a dr Emma Anders video - she went to a uni sports science department to use their machines and it wasn't that expensive/ cheaper than a Dexa scan). I love my renpho and seeing the numbers go down but I wonder if you're at the stage it's not as meaningful perhaps. Yay for strength workouts - it does seem v important with mounjaro weight loss. I've joined an online programme and will be starting with little baby steps and tiny weights!

Have you (or anyone here!?) had the blood test results back? I posted mine yesterday so not expecting them yet but so curious. I know I'm still v. obese so they won't be perfect but I'd love to see them go down!

I hope everyone's going well. I imagine some of our other starters might be reaching their goal or getting close to it now!

I hadn't realised oushk had moved to bmi 25 for swapping. It won't affect me in December as I won't n be that bmi but looking ahead I was looking to potentially swap and again for maintenance!

I think all providers seem to be tightening up on prescribing but the perception is still that people can order whatever dose they want and buy it almost off the shelf. Im glad I went with Shemed as I think I instinctively would have raced up the doses a bit more.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 10/07/2025 09:26

Hi everyone.
I also got an email about blood test but not received it yet.
Bit worried as says must return within 14 days to stay on Shemed deal. Hoping I haven't missed it or anything.
Seems strange as not that long ago I did one (sent out as apparently as initial test was missing something).

Anyway. In a funny place.
Been so busy (birthdays, work, family stress). Not lost anything last 2 weeks. Still on 7.5mg and although apetitie suppression, my want for picking and grazing salty or sweet treats has returned.
Maybe it's the stress.

Also my period!!! My cycle has got longer and longer. Before MJ it was 27-30 days. Now 30-?36.
I feel like I have been due on my period for over a week and waiting, with PMT and that added hunger that is with it.
Have others got longer cycles now?
I must be Peri as now 43 but used to be regular.
Often weight stay same week before period and then get a little woosh of weight after, except still waiting for it to blood arrive. (def not preg).

Any how's, overall disappointed in progress last few weeks, cross with my picking and nibbling, not exercise as so busy and hot, wondering how to turn it all around again positively.
Feels I just need my period and I can mentally reset.

kittykarate · 10/07/2025 10:47

You get an email saying that the blood test has shipped, and a Royal Mail tracking notification. I think mine was sent out over a week after the initial "You're due a blood test" email.

My results were back pretty quickly, I posted it back on the Thursday, and results were uploaded by the Sunday. Not much of a wait to connect for the blood test checking, but they're much keener to say 'can you do it unsupervised'. This time my blood flowed 'better', I think as it was during the day (10am), rather than when my body wanted to be asleep (4am). It says that you don't need to fast anymore. The results weren't much changed for me to be honest - but I didn't have much bad apart from my cholesterol.

tinyemmy · 10/07/2025 14:01

I'm trying to ignore renpho!! I did my blood test on Tuesday and got it in the post before the 9am pickup. I was told they had it yesterday and got an email with results this morning. Nothing to compare them to as I was one of those that the app didn't work for in the beginning. GGT is raised, but other results all fine...

I'm struggling to ignore sugar at the moment, last night after my usual food I had another oat bar, a magnum and some popcorn. It's not binge behaviour so I'm not worried but I definitely need to keep an eye on it
