Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

I think I am really dense and solid naturally. My lowest BMI as an adult, at around the age of 20, was 25. At this BMI I literally had hip bones jutting out. I'm just don't understand how I could weigh less than this but maybe we'll find out later this year. This whole experience is wild 😆

And that is why there is a range but I wish there was more guidance, although how I don't know...
I'd like to know is this the right weight for me or should I be lighter. I guess it is because I don't think I can maintain any lighter...
Its sad that basically I need to skip breakfast and have a negligible lunch in order to stay small whilst my husband can eat three meals and snacks!!!
I guess that's life... I wish again there was more help in that regard of what is "normal" when I've asked others most skip breakfast and a lot of people have a small lunch and maybe if I'd known that's what I should have been doing I wouldn't have put so much weight on (although let's be honest it was mainly the binge eating, not the slightly larger lunch that did it, although I spent a long time trying to eat more to eat less as that was what I was advised - eat regularly etc etc)

I was thinking it might end up working in our favour as if that is as small as we can be or want to be, we'll never have a problem getting a prescription for MJ again, and should hopefully be able to be on a maintenance dose no problem too.

True, although you could only restart the journey if over BMI 30 which I think will encourage a lot of us to just stay on it for maintenance. I don't want to risk possibly not maintaining and then have to go up 3 stone to be eligible again!

Oh wow is that true - yes that's a very good point. At the moment I think I would like to stay on it longer term at a lower dose to maintain. I've been very lucky to have minimum side effects so I think I probably could just keep going.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 07/06/2025 16:26

I'd now like to stay on long term to maintain (I originally though a couple of years at goal and I'd have a new set point and could taper down). I'm really hoping prices just come down! I do wonder if half the country will be on them eventually.

I think I would like to be at the top end of my recommended bmi. Even at 18 I was around 23 and looked good then. I don't need to go lower as I just want to be healthy. Unfortunately with my weight loss I will have lose skin then too but will take that over being huge!

For now I'll be happy over just my bmi but in my ideal world I think I'd like to be around 24. I'd like to think I'll focus more on strength and fitness then but it's a way away for me. I'm really keen to see what maintanence looks like for all of you that get there before the study is up.

I'm very early days on maintenance and just winging it at the mo. I wanted to lose a couple more pounds so I'm happy that I'm still losing a bit. I moved jab day to Monday so I can eat more at the weekend and my thoughts were strict in the week and less strict at weekends. I haven't calorie counted throughout but when I've occasionally totted them up I've been eating around 1000 - 1200 which isn't ideal long term. I should be on around 1500 - 1600 (so pitifully low so no wonder I've struggled to lose weight and keep it off) to maintain. I should probably plan some meals so I know I can eat sat 1400 in the week and not worry if I go out for dinner at the weekend. I'm currently stilp weighing daily, not sure what to do about that. I like the control so maybe I will continue to weigh daily for a few weeks until I can prove I'm eating the right amount. The trick will be catch it if it goes up and put a plan in place. In previous attempts I've not been able to fix it, but if I stay in mj I honestly don't think I will have a weight problem again (I can always temporarily up the dose if I need to lose, then lower again to maintain once I've found the sweet spot.)

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 07/06/2025 18:00

Wahooooo! You've done so well! ❤️. And yes I guess it will be a balancing act won't it. I'd love just to settle into whatever normal will be and for it no longer to be soemthing we think about.

Hey x Another 1lb this week with a total loss of 2st 6lb. BMI is 32, potentially another 2 stone to go.
Just to share I did my questionnaire for next pen last week. I’m finishing my second 7.5mg pen. In the comments I asked for another 7.5mg as I was happy with the dose. They replied, as 7.5 mg dose is not licensed for maintenance, we will need to increase your dose to 10 mg. They did ask if I was happy to take their advice.
I also did an exercise class this week, for the first time in decades! Enjoyable as it was a small friendly class not intimidating at all.
Thank you for sharing your stories really encouraging ❤️💪

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 07/06/2025 18:38

Well done Humpty! I thought some people had had it for a third time. But they are strange. I was hoping next week to order a third one 😳

Yes I think it depends on the clinician who looks at your progress.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 08/06/2025 22:59

Evening all, sorry been a busy week & in lots of ways a good one. Ok, not been to the gym but I have got into the swing of better eating & felt more in control and ‘normal’. I mean I can listen to my body and say no, had enough. Also DC’s birthday this weekend so there has been party food and cake (lots) but I have felt in control around it.
I think uping my 5mg pen and extracting extra to give me 6mg was a good call.
Weight loss going steady and well
SW 136kg
CW 111kg BMI 37 (yay-getting there).

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden how are you doing?

Finally, I have just started my 7.5mg pen today. Yay. Excited to continue.
I did wuss out a little as have a very important work review day tomorrow.
I only did 55clicks which is just short of 7mg (6.89mg).
I know I will feel effects but wanted to avoid mega headache. Will do full dose next week.

@Humptyandhambelhave you considered doing this with your new 10mg pen to keep yourself on the dose you want. I know not for everyone and of course the se sible thing is to follow their advice.

Anyway, happy to here, feel my journey is positive this month. Less frustration and worry about choices and more.… just getting on with it, not letting it take over my life and just noticing the losses as they come.

Happy week all

tinyemmy · 09/06/2025 09:30

Jab day today. I forgot to weigh myself and then went to my gym class so decided against weighing myself when I got back. I checked in with SheMed and I think I lost half a pound this week but it's difficult to tell because I can never remember what clothes I wore! I need to have an official weighing outfit like I do for slimming world!
I decided to jab 2.5 again today, based on dosediary image attached I should be a little hungrier this week so we shall see how that goes. I do need to be maintaining now really.
I've ordered another 5mg (or requested anyway) because a) it's an official maintenance dose and I think I will be asked less questions b) it gives me options to adjust whilst I'm figuring out this maintenance thing. I've been on 2.5mg for a couple of weeks now and I think I still have the inflammation benefits (when I previously dropped I held onto a lot of weight, it hasn't happened this time) so hopefully this is the dose for me, or there or thereabouts. Obviously from a SheMed perspective it's 5mg.
I'm interested to see how I feel in 6 months time as to whether I want to stay on it or come off. Right now I can't imagine everything coming off, I think it has changed my life!
I'm loving being at the gym again, I just struggled so much before with knee, back, hip pain etc.

JBJ · 09/06/2025 10:01

Morning ladies. 3rd 7.5mg jab today. Lost 1.1lb, which is a miracle as I’m on holiday, very bloated and haven’t been to the loo since Friday 😳 I always struggle when I’m not at home! Fingers crossed I get no headache from the jab this week as can’t be dealing with that whilst I’m away.

Mazd323 · 10/06/2025 05:44

Started my 2nd 7.5mg pen yesterday. I’ve been so lucky and in 20 weeks had pretty much no side effects but the past 4 days my stomach has not been good. Could this be the mounjaro so late in the day or is it more likely to be a bug? Has anybody else had side effects this late in the process?

kittykarate · 10/06/2025 14:41

My 3rd 7.5mg done today, 400g down and woop woop, 74.9 kg! Finally I've limbo'd under the 75kg sticking point. (Still another 15 to go, which feels a bit less attainable before the end of the Shemed year, but still, all good).

@Mazd323 - my stomach likes to wait until jab 6 or 7 at a dosage before bringing the drama, so it could be that or it could be a bug.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 10/06/2025 19:28

Wahooo @kittykarate fab news!

@Mazd323 I seem to have had reactions at all sorts of times but especially going up doses. It's hard to know isn't it. If it is worse again after jab day then eases off towards the end of the week I guess you'll know... Hope you're okay and it's under control.

@tinyemmy great news with the gym! I still feel they could market them for inflammation reduction alone.

@JBJ hope you have a fab rest of the holiday! It's absoluteky a thing not being able to "go" early on on holiday isn't it. Im like that!

@Reginaphalangeeeee yay for finally having the 7 5pen and a better week! I'm going okay - although still in awe of your weight loss! I am "burpy" which pepto bismol fixes but I am cautious about using too often but haven't found anything else that works as well! Luckily no other side effects (other than disturbed sleep. I think MJ means I sleep lighter but it's busy work/gcse stress probably combinined with it zzz) another week tomorrow and Eldest Child will have finished gcses which will be a huge relief.

I don't think I've lost weight yet this week but I've done quite well the last few weeks so I think if I sts this week of course I won't like it but it's "okay". Not til Friday though so anything could happen.

Jab 21 taken today. My weight has gone up & total loss is 12.7kg or 2st. Not a great feeling to have put on, but the average is good at 635g or 1.4lb per week.

Did a lot of weight training over the last few weeks & feel quite sore after using muscles that I don’t think have been used for a good few years! Has anyone else been exercising & felt the effects for days or is it just me? No doubt it’ll get better the more I do.

Have a great week everyone.

Earthgirl3971 · 11/06/2025 20:53

Hi all, injecting tomorrow not sure I've had the best week eating wise but still hoping to lose that trusty pound.

So side effects now on 7.5mg achy teeth and I'm losing my hair in the shower.!

Should I be seriously worried. ? I drink plenty each day. My teeth arent the best anyway but I'm seeing a hygienist next week

Happily I have bought some slightly smaller clothes that fit nice and I've made a few £ from selling my sizes that are too big now.

There's a couple of things I've realised I'm going to struggle to replace in a smaller size because they cost so much .. I am avoiding using my credit cards now, I'm beginning a financial make over (it was never awful amount of credit ) but still want it gone none the less.

Mj helps with all of it doesn't it. So my big discovery for this week is exercise with resistance bands. This is now my go to and I do them a lot of the day while sitting at my desk just getting oxygen into my muscles help me not feel so tired so if you're a desk sitter like me give them a go! My partner suggested it in his words I'm going thin ... Didn't sound great so I better listen up and get toning.

Renpho told me I've lost a year in age and my visceral fat is now average. Very happy with that ☺️ really hope I can poo in the morning so I can do my check in early, ha ha.

X

Yes, when first exercising DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) can last for days, or if you go very hard. Certainly I can feel my muscles mildly for a couple of days after every workout!! It makes me feel good!

@Earthgirl3971 that doesn't sound good, you should maybe speak to SheMed. I've heard of hair loss as a side effect but it shouldn't be clumps, are you eating nutritious food?

I'll mention it. My food is nutritional mostly yes. I eat a few stalks of broccoli a week. .. not to mention all other things.
Of course could be something unrelated but best not Google.

I'll let you know how I get on. X

Eek yes stay away from Dr Google. Definitely speak to SheMed or your GP though. Perhaps you should take a week off mj? Keep us informed!!
I've been very lucky not to have hair loss given I've had rapid weight loss, but I do have an under active thyroid so already have thin hair, so maybe because of that?

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 13/06/2025 07:43

Morning all!

Friday is my jab day. I'm 17stone 11 today which is exactly 4 stone loss! And very nearly "not morbid"! I've done my form and am staying at 7.5 for a third month as I'm still losing around 1kg a week on average.

Having said that - this last 10 days I stayed roughly the same with a little blip of an increase.... Then got my period yesterday and lost 1.1kg "overnight"!! If I'd weighed in yesterday it would have looked like I'd stayed the same.

@DearRaven Yes! I am sore the next day each time I go on a long walk... I think for me moving from sedentary to any activity is a bit of a shock to my muscles but it's good!

@Earthgirl3971 Hope shemed has some answers for you. If not try your GP just incase there's something else going on. Clumps of hair falling out does not sound good at all.

Life's been crazy busy here with work (some evening work to get the project done) and child doing gcses. I'm exhausted... But in the past this would have led me to binging or to just not sustaining weight loss. I do love how this just ticks away in the background and hasn't affected my ability to eat well (OK may have had a couple of chocolate digestives a couple of times but I'm calling that within the bounds of normal!)

Has anyone heard about a 6month blood test yet? I'm wondering if I'll get it or they'll delay it as my first one was 3 months late!

Amazing work well done @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden you're doing so well! Particularly with everything that has been going on!

I'm still trying to figure out maintenance! I had a medical yesterday with some blood tests which I get the results of over the next few days. In hindsight probably not the best timing as my 6 months is on 8th July! But it will be good to compare, it might end up being a month after these ones... I've not heard anything.at the medical they said I was 19.1% body fat which I don't agree with but it's nicer than my 30.7% as of this morning. So I will worry less about chasing the subcutaneous fat to get lower. The Dr also asked me what my plan was as he didn't want me disappearing!!! He suggested stretching out the doses.

I was wondering whether to slightly increase the dose at my next jab as I have definitely been eating more - I ate a whole bag of Reese's minis, I meant to have a few but decided not to stop. It certainly wasn't a binge and when I added up all my calories for the day it was around maintenance but I do need to watch for these binge like behaviours. I'm hoping I can get the ADHD diagnosis and medication and that will help so I can reduce mj right down but still protect myself from binging. Scales were down today. I've got one more pound to get to my "ultimate goal" and probably the bottom of my range and then I need to make sure I don't lose more weight (hahaha it sounds ridiculous when I've tried so hard to lose weight over the last 2 decades!!!). I think I might have to calorie count to make sure I get nutritious maintenance calories and not just diet calories and then eat rubbish. I don't have a clue what I'm doing, in some respects losing weight was easier as you just need to eat less, maintaining is much more of a balance! I'm so pleased to be here and grateful for what mj has given me and to be in such a supportive group ❤️
