Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

Yup exactly that group that irks me.... So many thinking they were conned or wanting to go up as first week they lost 10lbs so now the 1-2pounds doesn't seem enough.

Or they're "hungry" but not actually eating.

I keep going back to it though..... And then relieved we have this group here (and I like the 10st plus group too and then reading some of the older ones for inspiration!)

Do they not realise losing 10lb a week is probably far more dangerous than carrying the extra weight. And then they'll complain they get to target and are tied in for the year

For me, one less stress and I feel a million lbs lighter. Verdict in and unanimously guilty!!

Will late check in tomorrow but not going to even worry about the numbers

Reginaphalangeeeee · 27/03/2025 18:11

Thank you @meatyryvita and @JBJ.
your comments really helped.
I am 2nd week and 4th day post5mg. Strangely suppression has been better today than the last 3 days.
I do not know why.
Infact forgot much, so eat later and as per you protein advice for two salmon fillets in and feel stuffed.
much less food noise today and grateful for it as was getting worried. It was like a glimps into my January self and I hated it.

How are things @Mieliwood?
Hope a better day?

Much better!
Verdict came quite quick and now it's just sentence to deal with but he's remanded now! Sentence means nothing to me it will never be enough

Reginaphalangeeeee · 27/03/2025 18:22

So glad @Mieliwood
dont know anything of what you are going through but pleased some closure and less stress.

Without too many details.
1 man, 4 victims all under 13
And a very long wait for justice whilst he was on bail in the same village - it's been hard but I refused to make him the victim in all this and have kept schtum for more than 2 years

Thank you for the kind words.

Just did my check in for the week and I am back up to what I was when I started the 5mg. Frustrated but not concerned. I'm so dehydrated and have eaten poorly for two weeks so back to it next week

Although just remembered I have mothers day and my birthday to contend with just a few days apart - at least Easter is far enough away this year 😆

SnowieBear · 27/03/2025 22:16

@Mieliwood there are no words.

Just wanted to sincerely wish you peace now, and time and space for all to heal.

Also wanted to send you some encouragement with your GLP1 journey... My DH had a couple of very minimal loses on 5mg despite his diet being spot on. I convinced him to focus on his water for a week and the scales moved for him this week by 2.6kg. I know you have been dehydrated in this situation, but somehow think you'll be back on the right track in no time when you get back to drinking the right amount.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 28/03/2025 07:31

Gosh Mielewood I am so sorry 😔. That must have been horrific to relive but I'm so glad you're through it. 2 years... I can't imagine.

"Other groups" - there's an "official" Facebook group called Shemed Community but it's not really moderated and one called Shemed Warriors which is unofficial but is moderated. I seem to be going back to reading them. I think I had an initial "read everything" obsession...

I've weighed in today and after 3 weeks of not really doing much it's dropped 2kg! And very exciting for me I'm in the "teens" at 19st 12. The goal of not being "morbid" is looking achievable now... Hopefully just another 12 weeks 😊.

Another kg off here. Some days Ive really struggle to eat much at all, others I feel hungry a lot, but fine that it doesn't take much for that to go.

If I need to snack I've been eating nuts. I've found Aldi do some BBQ almonds and cashews and they are AMAZING!!

Those and salt and vinegar lentil cakes seem to do the trick when I need to eat something, but don't know what to have!

ForPeachSake · 28/03/2025 08:59

Hi all hope everyone is okay @Mieliwood that sounds awful I hope you finally have closure now.

So first check in for a couple of weeks following my holiday (I gained 3lb when I weighed when I got home) today I have officially lost 1lb from my pre holiday weight but lost the added 3lb too so 4lb in a week, I’m so happy! Didn’t go mad with food on holiday as I still had high suppression but did enjoy drinks each day (haven’t drank in a while but enjoyed what I wanted)

happy Friday everyone

Yay you did it Grin It’s such a nice feeling seeing that 19 on the scales isn’t it?

SnowieBear · 28/03/2025 14:11

Check in today and start of W9D1, 0.8kg down.

Healthy BMI and over half way to my goal, yay!

DearRaven · 28/03/2025 20:41

Well done on all the losses this week and try not to be disheartened if you haven’t lost as much as you’d hoped.

No change in weight for me, which was disappointing until looking at my stats - fat % is lower and muscle % is higher. Glad I got new scales for this journey, as weeks like this they help remind me that weight isn’t the whole story.

Jab 10 // 5mg dose // 7.5kg loss so far

RedHillLady · 29/03/2025 12:05

Just taken my 4th dose of 5mg and I'm hoping the nausea and bloating isn't so bad this time! I stayed on 2.5mg for 2 pens due to the side effects, they did ease off eventually during the second pen.
I've lost 10kg in 11 weeks and I'm very happy despite the side effects.
It's a marathon not a sprint, I've got a long way to go and this is a good start!

BruhWhy · 30/03/2025 20:52

Weighed in on Thursday with a loss of 2lbs - I am now under 200lbs. Total loss of 25lbs. I'm just in shock.

I need to start strength training though. I've lost a lot of strength - the one thing I like about my body is that I am strong. I dig at my allotment, heave huge bags of compost around like they're nothing, shovel manure for hours... and suddenly I feel really frail 😕

Had to build some flat pack furniture today (I know, happy mothers day) and I struggled to lift 30kgs. I've never struggled like that, ever. Had to get DH to lift it into the bedroom for me.

Anyone got any good strength training routines?

Reginaphalangeeeee · 31/03/2025 08:57

I do strength training at the gym but any resistance work is ok. I always plan a push type exercise and a pull type exercise upper body and lower body.
e.g press up and bridge or a squat is pushing and rowing, lifting heavy bags are pull.
I do know that heavier resistance for less reps = less soreness and better progress so aiming for an exercise that is hard enough that you can only do 12 of in a row is right. Then try to do another 12 after a rest.
I read you should always leave a day between and actually 2-3 times a week is great.

good luck!!!
just doing more at the allotment with spring here will get you stronger & ofcouse eating enough + protein so not to loose muscle tissue.

JBJ · 31/03/2025 10:25

5th dose of 5mg today. 2.4lb off at weigh in! This dose seems to be working well for me now, after no suppression for the first couple of weeks. Just over 3lb off having lost 2st, although I’ve barely lost any inches at all. Feeling better in myself though.

Bananaramram · 31/03/2025 16:37

So I went to the GP today and I had two really lovely students from Cambridge do the first part of the consultation. Although I was there about a suspicious mole (nothing to worry about thankfully!), they took my blood pressure, and it’s come down significantly! I really didn’t anticipate having my BP done but I am so chuffed. They were really sweet, too. I talked about MJ and my journey with them.

I am having a lipids profile re-done next week, and I’m actually excited to see where my cholesterol is! I last had them done in December (and then SheMed in early Jan) and I can’t wait to see the progress I’ve made.

It was just a really positive reminder of how much this is helping us with our health off of the scales!

Yep, first 2 doses of 5mg didn’t seem to kick in for me.
STS first week and 2lbs this week but overall struggling with food noise.
My 3rd dose yesterday and today nausea and good suppression with no food noise.

It’s really weird as 2.5mg worked really well, then started 5mg and I was back to obsessing over food. You’d expect a stronger dose to have stronger suppression! Seems to have kicked in though now and it’s working as it should.

Yep exactly this for me @JBJ
glad I’m not the only one as couldn’t explain it and worried it had all
stopped working for me. Suppression kicked in strong now and easy to make good choices.

Feeling a little deflated this month. W11 (2nd month on 5mg) & I've only lost 1kg this month (current weight 94kg). I've just had my prescription approved & they've kept me on 5mg for a 3rd 5mg pen (I haven't had any symptoms). I'm sure they have their reasons, & I know it's a marathon, but I can't help but feel a bit disappointed.

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but feeling generally a bit disappointed with Shemed. I think I'd envisaged the 'clinician guided' treatment would mean I would have more involvement/potentially discussions with a clinician about my care & management, but beyond the refill form, it doesn't feel very personalised. I'm used to a telemedicine style of health care delivery as my GP is GP at Hand/eMed a digital primary care - where I have video & phone calls with a GP. I don't know that I thought this would be exactly the same, but I think I thought I'd feel a bit more involved. Vent over! (& I do realise that we have a good rate, so maybe I shouldn't have expected too much). Wondering if anyone else feels similar?

Did they ask if you wanted to go up? I’ve had two 5mg and not really losing much at all now so really worried they will stick to 5mg again. Has anyone gone up to 7.5mg?

They didn't ask anything/reach out to me at all - just prescribed the 3rd 5mg. In my refill form, I didn't explicitly say I wanted to move up, but that I was concerned about the lack of weight loss. Will be interested to hear what they do for you.
