Just started Mounjaro? Friendly chat and support right here!

My starting weight: 104kg
Would love to lose 30kg over time

Have just started the first dose - no side effects so far. Appetite has disappeared. Cautiously hopeful about the future!

Good luck to anyone else starting their weight-loss journey too. Would love to hear from you!

I had my first jab on Weds and cannot believe the impact it has had on my hunger, cravings and attitude to food. It’s a revelation! Like others, I’ve no interest in food at all. I’m eating 3 light meals a day but having to remember to do so. It’s crazy. No gastro issues or real side effects other than feeling cold at times and a bit fatigued these first few days. Nothing drastic. I am BMI 30 and hoping to lose about 2 stones to bring me into a healthy weight. I know it’s not as much as some on here but I have gained weight in the perimenopause and cannot shift more than a couple of pounds which I then put on because the food noise is so bloody constant. Excited for first weigh in! 🤞🏻

Good luck everyone x

3rd injection due today.

Week 1 loss 5.5 lb
Week 2 loss 2.5 lb

I shall definitely go up to 5mg as side effects are minimal for me and I'm losing suppression by around day 5/6. I had a Welsh cake last night and could easily have had another but luckily it was the last one.
I'm not really calorie counting and don't plan to unless my weight loss stalls. The biggest surprise for me is my disinterest in alcohol. I had a G&T last night and it lasted about 3 hours whereas pre MJ I'd have two in less than 1 hour.
So, although food suppression wears off towards the end of the week for me, alcohol doesn't.

partyfoodpickingpiggy · 15/02/2025 10:14

Good morning everyone!!!

@Mounjaroday a stone wow!!! That's amazing. I am trying to hold off weighing now until Tuesday jab day as I'm getting a bit obsessive about it. But I will update on Tuesday. Last time I checked I was about the 10lb mark so a bit behind you but still impressive in not quite 3weeks.

I know I keep banging on about this- but this is especially to the people who may be disappointed with their loss in a particular week etc- take measurements weekly and record them. On the second week weigh in I hadn't lost as much as the first week but I had literally lost inches. Keep a check it's quite motivating. Star

Also- someone asked about moving up. I have ordered my 2nd pen and staying at 2.5mg. The reason being is that it's working for me (at the moment) I have huge supression and almost zero side effects. (Occasionally feel a bit queasy and I am FREEZING cold all the time)

On the alcohol front, I had a couple of glasses of red wine last night. This is hardly anything for me. I'm so off the booze it's unreal!

Have a brilliant day everyone. SmileSmileSmile

Littlebitpsycho · 15/02/2025 10:20

I'm really really struggling guys - second jab was on weds but I've got NO appetite suppression at all this week, last week it was fantastic!

I'm feeling really down about it - the reason I was doing this is because I can't do the willpower thing 😢😢

MaddyM8 · 15/02/2025 10:22

I don't know if I'm going to be able to carry on to be honest. First jab was Thursday, I've not been able to eat a THING, the nausea is just so so bad. I was in bed allllll day yesterday with the nausea and the worst headache. I'm gutted.

I'm sorry Maddy, some people seem to have bad reactions to one drug but then get on with another like wegovy.

Feb2025start · 15/02/2025 11:10

Second week weigh in! I knew it wouldn't be as drastic as week one as that would have been mostly water, but still very very happy (especially as I've had a couple of slip ups this week) 😀

SW - 79.6kg
W1W - 71.5kg
W2W - 67.8kg
TW - 60kg

So that's another 3.7kg off, bringing my grand total loss after two weeks to 11.8kg (26lb)! I am happy to say that for the first time in years I'm 'only' overweight, not obese. Well done to others who've seen losses and good luck to all 😊

eleanorwish · 15/02/2025 11:27

I've done my first jab this morning, waiting for it to kick in! Apparently it can take 8 to 72 hours to reach peak level in your body.
I must admit I'm a little anxious about side effects. Luckily I'm off work in Monday just in case!

Feeling your pain! I have been struggling with gastric probs - but I am feeling loads better today and maybe what I’ve done over last 24 hours is the reason - so in case helpful for you (though yours sounds worse than mine if you literally can’t eat) : I took a half dose in my thigh for my 2nd dose - and thank god I did because I still felt awful the next day (maybe should have done 1/4) - but … I am wondering if that was because I chilli for dinner before taking the shot … it was very mild (not at all spicey) but I’ve read others saying red meat makes them ill on MJ - so maybe having that the night before was a bad choice. I took in v easy and ate v carefully yesterday - only banana, plain egg, toast and some homemade chicken broth - have woken up today feeling the best I have since first shot. Obviously I can’t eat like this long term as not enough calories, protein etc - but I am thinking that I’m going to be super careful with v simple foods for the next week - and especially the night before my shot. I think I will probably only risk 1/2 dose next week too and then see if I can move back up to 2.5 for week 4 (and definitely won’t be going to 5 for a while…) will have to see if this works and if my body finally adjusts and I can be relatively normal again soon…but am feeling more hopeful that can keep going. Final tip: other godsend yesterday was some oat crackers - had a nibble every time felt queasy and it really helped. I’m wondering if having an empty stomach is what makes me nautious - bit counter intuitive to eat when feeling sick - but had made a big difference. Sorry for the essay! But hope it might help!

That’s amazing well done. Can I ask are you weighing yourself every week I wasn’t sure whether to do that or wait until my monthly check up and see what I have lost

Feb2025start · 15/02/2025 11:34

I've now told DH - I wanted to hold off for a couple of weeks in case it wasn't working as he can be a bit cynical/suspicious of these things. But he's not only really supportive, he's agreed to join me (which was also the aim - he has a lot more than me to lose). He's planning one last blowout today at our Valentines steak dinner (I'm planning to stick to the healthiest options available and give the cocktails a swerve... he is definitely not!) then hopefully starting in the next few days 😊

That is rubbish, @MaddyM8, especially after getting yourself psyched up for it - as suggested by @Burnserns would you try Wegovy? I've also heard of people getting on really well with one and not at all with the other. Good luck regardless of what you decide x

Speak to your provider before your next dose is due. If the suppression and nausea is that strong they should suggest you drop the dose and try 1.5mg or similar and then adjust until you find the dose that works for you so you get good suppression but not too much and no nausea. In the meantime try to eat bland books lottle and often to help combat the nausea.

I guess all drugs are like this but Mounjaro has a very strong effect on some people and in others not so much. I have never had nausea on any dose and I did a few 15mg pens and even took the bonus dose from it which must have been well over 20mg.

On the plus side if you can find the right dose for you and only need to buy 2.5mg pens it's going to be a lot cheaper than paying £200 for a 15mg pen!

Thank you so much for this advice and the others regarding a possible switch! Weirdly I feel much better I the last half an hour, I still can't eat as even smelling something is making me want to vom but I'm going to try a protein drink when I can and just sip as I can imagine eating nothing is making it worse!

I will definitely try the crackers, thank you! I also read about electrolytes and stuff so sending my other half the shop for a lucozade sport see if that helps. I will definitely try a smaller dose I think for next shot just to see how I fair with that, or go and get some anti sickness from the pharmacy.

I don't want to have wasted money and time so I feel like I need to try all the things you've suggested, as well as the other things before totally giving up.

Thank you so much for all the advice. I weighed myself just because I could and ive lost 4lbs but obviously not very healthily 🫠🤣

I’ve just been approved for Mounjaro and am waiting for my first delivery.
I feel sick easily, I still get car sick and have hyperemesis with my pregnancies, so my main worry is that I’ll feel like you @MaddyM8 . hopefully you’ll start to feel better soon.💐

Thank you lovely, I'm so glad this thread exists as I would feel a bit isolated if not 🥰

Hopefully you won't feel like me so I've got me finger crossed for you, for some it seems they only get minimal or no side effects so I hope you're one of those x

Chrestomanciscat · 15/02/2025 12:21

Hello everyone 🌟 can i join please? I've been stalking the weight loss boards for the last month or so and after reading bout everyone's mounjaro successes have decided to go for it! I got my first pen on Thursday from oushk.

I injected straight away to get it over with as i was really worried about the possibility of vomiting as a side effect. I have a bit of a phobia of vomiting as almost the first thing my body does when its ill or inconvenienced in any way is puke. My pregnancies were terrible all the way through with it. Im not so worried about the other possible side effects as they can be managed more. I bought some anti nausea medication, and treatments for constipation and diarrhoea from the pharmacy so im ready for anything 💪

So far I've had some food suppression - probably eating half the calories i would normally. As others have said it has really helped me overcome my habit of evening drinking. I've been doing this ALOT recently as my mother died unexpectedly in January and I've been dealing with it quite unhealthy I think. Her death has also given me a nudge to do something about my own health.

Starting weight: 14 stone 12. Jab and weight in on Thursday's.
Interim goal: 11 stone which would take me to overweight.

Apologies for the essay, i like that Mumsnet is anonymous and i can say the things i can't in real life.

I thought about posting my assessment pictures - for accountability and also for information for anyone who's interested. Is that ok ? - any thoughts welcome.

Chrestomanciscat · 15/02/2025 12:24

Also, forgot to say - i had some nausea on second day but manageable. Some constipation today but not horrendous. I think I've had more energy than i usually have - especially around after lunch though im really tired by 7 or 8 o clock. X

WLINewbie · 15/02/2025 12:42

Hi

Hope I can join, I ordered on Thursday eve and my first pen arrived today. Taken my first dose and really hoping for this appetite suppression I've read so much about. I can eat and eat and eat, constantly hungry, always thinking about food, massive portions are never enough for me. I get disgusted at the amount I can eat and the amount I crave.

Weight loss will be a most welcome side effect but my main aim is to control my eating and have some freedom.

nj32 · 15/02/2025 12:53

I injected for the first time last night. How long before I start to feel the affects?

Crunk · 15/02/2025 12:55

checking in for my first weigh in.
SW: 15 7Ib
CE: 15 2Ib

Very happy with a 5Ib loss and can’t believe the difference Mounjaro has made to what (I now know were) near constant food cravings!

I wouldn’t have known anything about it other than from mumsnet and I’m so grateful. This is a total game changer!

Yes, I'm weighing myself weekly. I think it's personal preference tbh - I know some people are weighing more frequently (daily or more) which I want to avoid as the body naturally fluctuates a bit, but a month was too long to wait for me personally, especially as I could see I'd lost some already by the end of week one

Feb2025start · 15/02/2025 13:10

Hi @Chrestomanciscat and welcome! Sorry to hear about your mum. It's good to hear that MJ has curbed your evening drinking - that's not so much of a concern for me personally, but DH (who will be starting MJ imminently) drinks far too much cider of an evening to be good for either his weight or his general health 😬

I was wondering about posting assessment pics vs current pics as well as the difference is quite dramatic (would obviously black out my face!). I will if you will 😅

Zazu44 · 15/02/2025 13:27

@Ragdollmummy1977 I'm taking my 2nd dose today and have decided I'm going to weigh 4 weekly. I know me and if I start to lose weight in the 1st week or 2 think I deserve a treat, then end up binge eating, then hate myself etc etc etc.
best if I don't know 😂

Mounjaroday · 15/02/2025 13:51

Hey does anyone when a thread on Mumsnet becomes full? I’ll open a new one when the time comes… just trying to work out when I should do that!
