What's your diet like the last couple of days?

It isn't always the case, but often there's a link to the types of food being eaten. MJ slows down digestion, it doesn't get on well with foods that are too greasy or stodgy.

It's been a bit more carby than I'd like. Eg I had wholemeal toast for breakfast yesterday and a veg & pasta bake for dinner so two of my three meals based around carbs rather than protein. So maybe it's the stodge. Thanks for the tip though- another reason to up the protein!

hellohellooo · 04/03/2025 10:35

How many clicks in an MJ pen ?

SqueakyDinosaur · 04/03/2025 10:38

In theory there are 4 doses in a pen, and whatever the strength, a full dose at that strength is 60 clicks, so 240.

But then there's the bonus dose, which you have to get out without clicking, and that's usually a bit bigger than one of the other doses, maybe 0.8ml (normal dose is 0.6ml), so that would be an extra 80 clicks, so 320 in total.

hellohellooo · 04/03/2025 10:40

60 clicks for the whole pen?

SqueakyDinosaur · 04/03/2025 10:40

No, 60 clicks is one weekly dose.

MooBaggage · 04/03/2025 12:47

Really stressful week for me this week, including a funeral, seeing my ex and having to make someone redundant. I'm feeling panicky and anxious and sad all at the same time. 😔

I would normally be eating my feelings, obvs - so I almost feel worse, because my coping mechanism isn't there...

Am trying to do long breathing and think calm thoughts - but sweets and red wine would have been far easier..!

I'll be so glad when it's next week...

Arglefraster · 04/03/2025 13:28

Oh @MooBaggage I'm so sorry any one of those things would be enough to throw most people for six.

You could try some physiological sighs along with the breathing (breathe all the way in then do a quick extra "sniff"/gasp for extra air before letting it all out as an ahhhh) I find them very effective when feeling anxious.

I hope there is someone looking after you you need some proper hugs 💐

I feel as though I've got into a bit of a rut with vegetables and the idea of salad while it's cold is really making me feel icky (although I am a bit of a salad dodger at the best of times!)
Anyone got any suggestions for veg that don't involve oven roasting with chicken pieces please?

When I do roast or boiled potatoes for DH/DD, I keep back the peels and air fry them with a bit of spray oil and some seasoning. Gives the flavour and sensation of chips or jacket potato but way less carbs, calories and plenty of fibre.

Corn on the cob with chilli/paprika/garlic seasoning is a nice fresh side

I like the steam fresh packs of greens you get in the freezer section, tenderstem brocolli, greenbeans and sugarsnap peas that do in the microwave for 3 mins.

I also eat a lot of my veg in casserole style slow cooker meals. 500g meat, 2 punnets of button mushrooms, tin of tomatoes, bag of pre sliced onion, bag of pre-prepped baby carrots. Slow cook for a few hours and divide into 4 portions.

Soups are good too - you can dollop some Greek yogurt in for a bit of protein.

Currently I've got 2 batch frozen that I'm working my way through - onion/leek/celery/carrot (you can also add red lentils for protein), and onion/courgette/broccoli (also nice with a bit of blue cheese crumbled in.

I make them up fairly thick, using 2 stock cubes or stockpots, and dilute with milk to serve. I blend them till smooth but that's entirely a preference - some people like them chunky. And frozen chopped onion is an absolute godsend - means you can start them off with almost no effort at all.

AnneinEdinburgh · 04/03/2025 18:04

I'm working my way through a big batch of chowder, leaks, onions, sweetcorn, small amount potato, smoked fish, bacon, fish stock pots, milk and cream. Yum

SqueakyDinosaur · 04/03/2025 19:22

This is a Finnish version of chowder, I guess, and it's absolutely delicious, one of those things that's more than the sum of its parts. It's also very filling so a small portion goes a long way. The dill MUST be fresh, dried doesn't work.

Lohikeitto

25g butter
2 large/3 medium leeks, finely chopped (white & pale green bits only)
2 medium carrots, chopped or grated
1 large potato, peeled and chopped into 1cm
2 fish stockpots made up with about 500 ml boiling water
2-3 salmon fillets, skinned and cut into chunks
Small pot single cream
At least 40g fresh dill, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Milk to thin (if you like)

Saute the leeks and carrots in the butter till soft. Add the potato and the stock and simmer till the potato is soft. Add in the salmon, cream and dill and simmer again for about 4 mins until the salmon's cooked through. Season to taste and thin down with milk if you like it sloppier!

Darlinghag · 04/03/2025 20:30

@QueenOfHiraeth airfried fine green beans are my fave! Tend to season with garlic, salt and pepper, plus a spice if in that mood and then a very small amount of oil ( i use 3g for one portion!) . I also like to top with a sprinkle of Parmesan in the last few mins too. I eat it probably at least 5 days a week haha

gimmemounjaro · 04/03/2025 20:35

@JasonMurrayMint
I keep them just for my own use - we have another set of scales that anyone else can use. You can definitely have several users but I'm not sure how it knows who is who, and whether everyone has individual codes or whatever, to keep your info private. If you google the model you might find the user manual online though.

InfoSecInTheCity · 04/03/2025 20:54

I have Eufy scales and when I got first got them I set up user profiles and each person in the house was weighed. It then recognises based on weight and height who has stepped on, so it knows my husband is 5ft 11 so if a 5ft 11 person roughly the same weight or within a reasonable tolerance steps on it assumes it's my husband. If there's a big weight discrepancy then it takes the weight but then asks in Teheran app who it should be assigned to. Had this a few times with my daughter who weighs infrequently but grows upwards like a weed.

Thank you so much @hellohellooo 😊
I'm planning on doing all of that too.

I also have got into a routine of 3-4 workouts a week, either a peloton cycle or a run. I'm hoping if I keep that up for 8 weeks it will become and HABIT I can't break!

I haven't seen one, but honestly it's really straightforward. You need some 1ml insulin syringes - if you aren't keen on needles try to get the ones with the shortest needles which are I think 4mm (standard is 8mm). You also need an alcohol wipe like the ones you use before you screw the normal needles on.

You should get about 0.8ml of liquid in the syringe if you take it all out. That's about one-third more than the dose you've been taking for the last 4 weeks. If you don't want to up your dose, at step 6 keep pushing the plunger until you can see there's 0.6ml left in the syringe. If you're upping your dose it can be a good stepping stone.

  1. Take the lid off the pen, and cut/tear the wrapper on the syringe so it's ready to go.
  2. Use an alcohol wipe to sanitise the red rubber seal on the pen.
  3. Take the needle cover and plunger cover off the syringe.
  4. Insert the needle gently into the pen through the seal.
  5. Pull out the plunger slowly. It will take a little more pressure than you probably expect because you aren't pushing the liquid down with the pen's own plunger. The liquid may also bubble a bit in the syringe.
  6. Withdraw the syringe from the pen and hold it needle upwards. Push the plunger in gently till you can see there's no air in the syringe and you get a bead of liquid on the needle.
  7. Inject, just as you do with the pen, and dispose of the syringe in your sharps bin.

During vegan week lidl did various freeze dried vegetables. The freeze dried green beans were fabulous and hit the crispy spot without actually being a crisp.

Tonight it was pancakes for tea in my house- special treat for the kids. Last year I would have had at least 4, lavishly topped. This year it was 2, much leaner on the toppings and even then it was probably pushing it a bit. I was beginning to think the 10mg was wearing off. It clearly isn't.

QueenOfHiraeth · 04/03/2025 22:33

Thanks everybody, some great ideas there.
I had been making soups which helped with lunchtimes so might go back to that. Delia Smith's minestrone is good for a chunky option if anyone is looking for one. I'll definitely try those chowders, they sound great.
I'll look into air-fried veg, hadn't thought about that but might be worth a try.

I've been doing really well but think I've just had so much going on over the last few weeks that I've lost the plot and, now food is not as much of an inspiration as it was, am finding it hard to claw my way back.

SqueakyDinosaur · 04/03/2025 23:35

I find it's useful to always have a stash of Longley Farm cottage cheese in the fridge (just bought another 6 pots yesterday) so that if I'm completely out of inspiration I can just have some veg and that. Luckily I genuinely like it!

Darlinghag · 05/03/2025 08:50

I was looking through my weightloss stats this morning (so close to getting under 15st!!!) and for some reason, passing 217lbs or 15st5lb a couple of weeks ago felt like a milestone but I could not for the life of me remember why - until it clicked just now! 217lbs was my starting weight at Slimming World when I was 18!!!!

I have not been this light since I was practically a child! What a feeling!
