Thanks for the tips - I think protein shakes are probably the way to go as I struggle to get in much protein even when I am eating properly. Any particular brands people recommend?

RobinEllacotStrike · 03/03/2025 10:55

oh no @hellohellooo that sounds scary - hope you are all Ok now.

@MamaNewtNewt re supplements I was told years ago a good basic supplement regime is:
Best multi vit you can afford, + probiotic, + Omega 3 oil - I take flaxseed oil but fish/marnie origina oils are better if you can tolerate them.

I also take Vit D and Marnie collagen, and sporadically a menopause supplement.

@WeAllHaveWings wonderful news being back on the HRT. I've been off it for several months and the "alternative" I've been given doesn't work. I've not slept properly in months and I'm tired. Being in "hot flash" for half the day & most of the night is really draining. I have finally procured the elusive doctors appointment and I hope to be back on it on Wednesday. (I am intolerant to progesterone which I have to take as part of HRT but NHS guidelines say I can take it 2 weeks out of 16, which worked for me and I will be insiting on going back on this regime - I'm really not sure why I was taken off it).

Super fun yoga class this morning - I am taking my body to places its not been in decades and it feels magnificent. I am really starting to feel the benefit of my reduced weight, smaller body size, & increased flexibilty & strength from daily yoga practice. I can go deeper into shapes and really twist & open my body now. It makes me incredibly happy and helps brings balance into the menopause/hot flash nightmare.

Winning weighloss/yoga combo - I've recently realised I can now scratch every part of my back. I will be able to apply my own sunscreen to 100% of my back this summer without any issues. I hadn't really clocked that I had lost this ability or when I lost it - maybe around the time I injured both my shoulders. Separate incidents, both in the pandemic and although I have now recovered (it took ages) I can still feel an echo of both injuries in certain yoga postures.

It seems we are getting to the end of pomegranate season - I don't know what I am going to do. They are getting harder to find. I've eaten one a day since October.

I have some Fast 800 ones. Nutritionally they seem quite sound and have lots of fiber & protein and aren't too high in the UPF's.

Taste wise - well they are drinkable.

Hi everyone. New injector here :) First jab was on Friday night, not felt any different at all yet though. Boo! Am calorie counting as this has worked well for me in the past.

I am bang on 17st and would like to lose 6 of them to put me in the healthy BMI range. It seems such an impossible task though. Am feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all tbh. But I have some health issues that I know will be addressed by losing weight, plus I have a biiiiiig birthday next Feb and I want to feel fab for that so I need to put my biiiiiig girl pants on 😂

Welcome to the thread @ShineyGreen - we are all at different stages here. A whole new you by next February is entirely possible.

It is quite normal not to feel much on the first few doses. Take the time to sort your meals out so you can eat healthy and be in calorie deficit.

I started end of July 24 (27kg down, 23 to go) which feels like a lifetime ago. I do recall it felt quite overwhelming at first - so much new and strange to lean about. Also instead of thinking about food all the time I was thinking about MJ all the time - this passes too.

Just keep in the back of your mind that things WILL settle down. This is a long haul marathon, and will take some time. But the BIG difference no one talks about with MJ is it makes weight loss over a long stretch really possible. Where I would lose a bit and then give up utterly exhausted with the entire process, MJ alows you to settle into a steady beat, that is possible to maintain. The gift of patience & consistancy - that for me is really the magic of MJ.

So if you take the MJ, eat healthy food in calorie deficit, do some exercise, drink your water, you will over the next few months go down in weight! And once your head settles down, it becomes relatively easy.

My sister keeps telling me "well done - I know how hard it is" - I try explaining to her its not at all hard. It really isn't difficult doing this. The hard will come later no doubt when I go off MJ, but for now MJ really makes everthing very easy.

NewbieMJ · 03/03/2025 15:23

Just checking back in. Congratulations @VelociraptorsVelociRapping et al for amazing losses. It is so inspiring to read about your progress as you all near the finale of your journey.

Thanks @gimmemounjaro for posting your recommendation for scales. I unwrapped them yesterday with trepidation and excitement in equal measure. Wow! The best £30 I have spent in a long time. So informative - they are going to help me a lot. I realised I am low on water - I thought I drank enough, clearly not; my visceral fat is nowhere near as bad as I thought and my bone and muscle mass are both excellent. It is these wins that really buoy me up when the scales seem to be sooooo slow in shifting.

They have, at last, started to move again. I am so motivated when the weight comes off, but I must say, MJ gives me the push to keep going. This thread has actually helped too and I have been giving myself wee pep talks from the advice on here, especially, believe in the process and it will come off. I haven't strayed from my plan since Christmas time, so it bloody well will shift! It HAS to. Saying all that, I am getting tonnes of comments about my weight loss (my face is very different, for sure), so something is happening and I feel great. Although the scales have me at 57 when I am, in fact, 54😂

I have come to terms I am a fairly slow loser, but I am nevertheless a loser and I find it very easy as @RobinEllacotStrike says. I don't have the suppression that others talk about, but I do eat 2 meals a day (decent portions) and stick to my macros.

Oh, almost forgot - I had a fail on the bonus dose of my last pen, so took the plunge and bought the needles to extract - it was all very straightforward, so thank you for that tip too, whoever it was that linked what to buy. I will do that from now on to extract the bonus dose. Sticking on 8mg for the time being.

[Started 2nd September]
SW: 18 stone 11 (263 lbs)
CW: 15 stone 7 (217 lbs)
BMI: was 43.8, now 36.1

I finally have a goal weight and it is 160 pounds which will be just over 100 pounds lost) when I finally get there.

gimmemounjaro · 03/03/2025 15:41

Oh I'm glad you like the scales @NewbieMJ

I'm exactly the same, even when the weight is stubbornly refusing to fall, they usually come up with some bit of data that keeps me going. Last week it was visceral fat going down from 9 to 8, whatever that means. Like you though my age is annoyingly a bit higher than it should be 😑

RobinEllacotStrike · 03/03/2025 16:25

Hmmm I've been resisting fancy scales for years and now suddenly I am interested ...

Thanks for the tips - I think protein shakes are probably the way to go as I struggle to get in much protein even when I am eating properly. Any particular brands people recommend?

I'm having the Huel black shakes (not actually black just the name!) they have 35g protein in them, they are quite thick and filling so I am having half in the mid morning around 11am and the other half about 3-4pm which keeps me going in the day and then try and have a meal in the evening. I also like the shakes from Purition which have some flaxseed in.

Orangesandlemons77 · 03/03/2025 16:28

Also the Fast 800 ones as mentioned are pretty good.

SqueakyDinosaur · 03/03/2025 16:33

@gimmemounjaro would you mind reposting the link to your super duper scales? I think a bit more info than just weight might also encourage me....

The Arla strawberry and raspberry protein shakes are the nicest ones I've found so far.

Hi everyone

I've been religiously following the threads but haven't posted in a while. I'm not sure why, I started to feel a bit claustrophobic tracking my weight so took a breather! So lovely to see everyone's progress and the new joiners - everyone has their own battles and it's such a lovely supportive thread. Hope you all have had a great start to 2025 ❤️

I've been on 10mg for a while, still getting some side effects but I'm going to taper off it next month as we are going to TTC number 3 in summer and I want to give it time to get out of my system. I won't be at my goal weight by then, but it will certainly be a healthier pregnancy weight wise than my last one!

@helloheloo well done on such a great recovery from what sounds like a lousy day.

Arglefraster · 04/03/2025 00:00

Oh no @hellohellooo sounds like a rotten day I hope things are vastly improved & the car is not too crushingly expensive to fix!

Hi @ShineyGreen hope it works well for you

@claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer personally I would be wary of pre-made shakes when you're having stomach issues. I got some unflavoured & unsweetened whey & find it easy to stir into yogurt or cottage cheese occasionally to boost the protein even higher. Plus I regularly put collagen powder into soup etc
Hope it settles soon

That's amazing work.

It can be so hard and well done

I too hope to taper off

I'm planning on upping my protein intake
Walking more
More water
Cutting out as much sugar as I can

What else am I missing?

Very best of luck

ShineyGreen · 04/03/2025 09:18

Morning everyone. Today is day 4 of my very first week. I had an upset stomach overnight with lots of trips to the loo and cramps. Not sure whether this is jab-related or just bad luck- I expected that if I was going to have side effects they might have happened sooner. What were your experiences?

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 04/03/2025 09:21

@ShineyGreen there's always a possiblity that you've caught a bug but the overhwleming likelihood is that it's a MJ side effect. Sorry. You are in good company.

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 04/03/2025 09:33

@ShineyGreen yeah sounds like it could be the jabs- I didn’t have any gastric side effects until my 6th week and then got hit with the same, so it does happen as the drug builds up in your system I think

I so want these! But.. a bit worried about others seeing or working out my weight. I noticed that there’s a little graph on the screen etc, how does it know who’s standing on the scales? I really don’t want my dh or dc to know what I weigh. Doyou need to log out of your user each time?

What's your diet like the last couple of days?

It isn't always the case, but often there's a link to the types of food being eaten. MJ slows down digestion, it doesn't get on well with foods that are too greasy or stodgy.
