Fantastic we made it to thread 2!

This is a thread for all those who have started or are about to start the Shemed programme in January.

Those waiting for blood tests /first pens hope you hear soon!
Those on their first/second jab hope it's going well - do come and tell us how it's going.

This is designed as a supportive space to share with each other how it's going, worries, side effects as well celebrating wins and results :)

Got message from pharmacy, MJ is on its way! Officially bricking myself now.
Here is to a new me in my 50th year!

How long did it take from your blood results until they prescribed? Just so I can gauge how long I will need to wait ☺️

JBJ · 20/01/2025 13:27

I'm just waiting on the blood test results, which I'm confident will be fine as I had a full blood screening done through the gp a couple of weeks ago and there were no issues with anything, so fingers crossed I get my first one soon!

I have to say, I loved the nifty little blood test device. Never come across anything like that before, and didn't feel a thing when I attached it. Much easier than having my arm stabbed 5 or 6 times by the nurse the other week!

Mazd323 · 20/01/2025 13:29

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden which day do you jab and if you don't mind me asking where? Mine has literally just arrived so deciding whether just to go for it or hang till next week as I have a dinner out this week and an afternoon tea booked for Sunday. Would prefer not to be ill for them or from them.

themumformerlyknownas · 20/01/2025 14:22

Hopping over here from the first thread - paid and ordered the test today so waiting for that to arrive.

I'm excited!

Earthgirl3971 · 20/01/2025 14:55

Just had my blood results through.
I had no idea my cholesterol was so bad. Does anyone know how you go about correcting this? Is it more exercise or eating certain foods?

All other things were fine I think, 50% in range 10% amber and 40% out of range as the overall summary.

They are being reviewed by a clinician now, hoping for the rubber stamp. Good luck to everyone waiting their results or approval also 😊

PurpleClare50 · 20/01/2025 15:16

@TheGladLilacDuck
Had results later last night then email at 10.30 this morning to say all prescribes

I can't see the results in my app but had an email and notification this morning they were ready to view and being reviewed. Are the results there for you on the main page of the app?

Earthgirl3971 · 20/01/2025 15:21

Yes , you get a pop up message. Where it normally says 'analysing your blood results' it now says 'your lab report is ready'

It looks like clinicians make calls to double check things aswell. I'm looking forward to mine now.

X I wish the best for you x

DrMauraIsles · 20/01/2025 15:42

Hi
Took my 1st injection this morning. Did my blood test last week and it all went quickly from there, received injection pen on Saturday, just had to pluck up the courage to do it. My test results weren't great so am looking forward to improve them and lose weight.

Impressed by the level of contact and help

Hoping this means mine will be soon, they also received mine on Friday morning :)

Cholesterol wise, your bad cholesterol levels should improve as you lose weight but generally avoiding high fat foods, less alcohol, stop smoking (all the usual healthy living stuff)

Earthgirl3971 · 20/01/2025 16:07

Oh no! I do eat fatty food, I'll need to stop.

I had moderately raised AST which is in the liver section of the test. I think as long as I don't have moderately raised 'ALT' also (which I don't ) it will be ok. Those two bad sisters together can indicate liver disease so I've been reading today upon getting my results.

Yes you shouldn't be long now. There's nothing nothing nothing then poof they are there! Just like that in the App ☺️

I personally do Friday after work as I often need to be around in person for work Mon-Fri and was worried about side effects. I haven't got diahrea/vomiting thankfully but it seems that people do 😬.
I think some people do it the other way round and jab during the week so they aren't fussed at weekends.

I personally am doing stomach as I have rather a lot of it! But they say any of the sites work fine.

Those talking about bloods - mine are going to be done again in Feb as they had a problem with them but I've had my gp ones back and they're all over the place (but not diabetes thankfully). I think being very overweight affects so much of our body and it's functioning we are only going in the right direction addressing it I think.

I'm so pleased I've done this and that I've signed up for a year. It takes all the worry and shall i/shan't I out of it all.

It sounds as though we had very similar results.

Every blood test I've had before now has been clear of everything so I'm really glad I did this when I did, because I had no idea I had high cholesterol.

Apparently they recommend a Mediterranean diet to bring cholesterol down. Lots of omega 3, fish, pulses, wholegrains and olive oil. Which is right up my street anyway so happy to have an excuse to buy myself nice fish and eat lots of dressed salads 🤤

Woohoo, they came in. Boohoo, I didn't think they would be that bad.

My husband is a type 1 diabetic so I'm always rubbing my perfect hba1c in his his face. It's gone up slightly since the last time I had it checked but still well below pre-diabetes. I'm at high risk of developing diabetes (very strong family history and a very sweet tooth and very overweight)

My cholesterol though 🫣 although probably to be expected. Don't really eat much fried food, or drink but I do like cake (far too much) and I smoke far too much (I have seen people say the jabs have helped with this too so a welcome side effect if it does)

Now just to wait for it to be looked at :)

kittykarate · 20/01/2025 16:32

So, my 3rd Jab is tomorrow! Can't believe it. I'm not sure much weight has shifted over the last week but I have been on holiday in Italy, so if I haven't gained it will be a miracle! While it was a very physically active holiday, it was also one with more food and booze available.

Checkins are a bit of a faff on holiday - doing the online checkin via the app, the person at the other end would not proceed without seeing my scales (which were at home), so I didn't even get any assistance doing my jab. I did send multiple emails to Shemed trying to understand the holiday process better, but I'm still really unclear on the process to be honest, but I manually logged that I had taken an injection and it has stopped the app nagging me about checking in.

Injection days - I work at home, so I inject on a Tuesday afternoon after my ice skating lesson so if I'm feeling a bit unusual I'm close to the bathroom while I work. Everyone has their own schedules based on their lives. I'm a bit worried if when I increase the dose I'll have more than feeling a bit off colour, as I have another active holiday planned soon and don't want to ruin it.

Mazd323 · 20/01/2025 16:50

I've done it. 1st jab done. Figured if I kept waiting I might never do it! Praying I have no side effects. For those worried about injecting I did it in my stomach and literally didn't feel it.

Mazd323 · 20/01/2025 16:53

Do people keep their pen in the fridge?

Catgrill · 20/01/2025 17:22

SassPot09 · 20/01/2025 10:37

Oh good shout on loose skin and magnesium. Shall add those to my shopping basket !

I cannot believe how quick its gone through, just waiting for tracking link!

How you feeling on yours

Honestly before you know it you’ll be jabbing ! I feel ok. a bit constipated and hunger suppression isn’t as much as the first couple days but definitely still there. Had headaches for a couple of nights but they have been ok since.

best of luck with yours !

kittykarate · 20/01/2025 17:28

Mazd323 · 20/01/2025 16:53

Do people keep their pen in the fridge?

You don't need to, it can be kept for a month at room temperature.

MelodicStarfall · 20/01/2025 17:35

SheMed received my blood test on Friday and I got the results at 2pm today. Just waiting to hear if I have been accepted.

Mazd323 · 20/01/2025 17:51

Q1 Do we prime the pen every time we inject?
Q2 For those that have been with SheMed for more than a month did they make you go up to the next dose or allow you to stay on the lower dose if it was working for you and that's what you preferred?

Earthgirl3971 · 20/01/2025 17:52

We are on the same schedule exactly!
I love your tag name by the way, very cool.

Hope we both get accepted tomorrow! 😁🍀🙏

Shmallow · 20/01/2025 17:55

Don't think any of us here have been on Shemed to the end of a pen yet. I assume you prime every time but I imagine there is paperwork in the box that says whether to.

Doggymummar · 20/01/2025 18:28

Not on shemed, but yes you prime each time

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/01/2025 18:45

Yes prime every time.

I think you fill out a form on the third jab - I didn't get the impression anything enforced but I can tell you on Friday!
