1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/01/2025 10:00

Fantastic we made it to thread 2!

This is a thread for all those who have started or are about to start the Shemed programme in January.

Those waiting for blood tests /first pens hope you hear soon!
Those on their first/second jab hope it's going well - do come and tell us how it's going.

This is designed as a supportive space to share with each other how it's going, worries, side effects as well celebrating wins and results :)

I did my check in today - is it showing in the app? Is it buggery. It's still nagging me to check in.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 21/01/2025 16:53

Yay for those whose tests or first pens are being shipped. 🎉.

@Shmallow wow 10lb!!!! I dont appear to have lost anything so far this week but I know our weight naturally fluctuates too so hopefully it will come! And yay @TLMoo for your loss too. I'm similarly realising "oh I haven't eaten".normally I have a snack when I come in from work and juts hadn't even though of it!

I wouldn't weigh naked - I've got leggings and a top but hadn't thought of weighing am and jabbing later. That is genius. I've been fitting it when I come home from work but would be nice to do in the morning.

@badgersnakemushroom I already take magnesium (peri menopausal) but I haven't added any other supplements. Hoping to get a balance diet etc but open to it if I need it! (I can't really afford anything else on top of this though really!)

@OneAzureMaker so sorry about the diahhrea. That's my big fear with work (or vomiting). It's a nightmare if I can't be in work in person. How are you feeling? Have you reported it? The pharmacist that rang me back was lovely. They might have an idea if imodium isn't working.

Welcome @SeaStoat I've got over 100lbs to lose too which was part of the attraction for me for signing in for a year rather than a big will I /won't I every few months.

@JBJ you can choose your day. Mine arrived in a Sunday and it was an excruciating wait until Friday for me! But I have had side effects so I'm glad I waited for a day it was suitable.

@tinyemmy yay for holiday!! Hope you have an amazing time!

I've just joined the Facebook group. Not sure I'll keep up with it and here but I fancied a look. There's several people saying the same thing!!!

Maybe with our reduced fee we're Guinea pigs and they'll change people the 199 rate once it's ironed out and not so buggy...

I think it's not helped by having the worst migraine i have had in a long time today. I actually emailed in sick and I never do that.

I am hoping by summer I will have lost a noticeable amount of weight. I have a holiday to visit family and have been informed that a member I have not seen since a child and when I was 8 told me I was as wide as I was tall (and I was a very tall kid!) will be there and that will be a two fingers up to them. They probably don't even remember saying it nearly 30 years ago but it's stuck in my head forever

It's funny the things that stick with you and shape things for years to come. My mum always used to joke that I was such a sickly child and it surfaced in therapy a few years back . I told her and she was mortified that it had such an effect on me. My ex in law once joked that my husband must have his hands full with me and I overheard. That sparked years of bad food choices as well.

I'm in! 😊

How you doing pen buddy? Have you had your prescription issued yet?

X

I'm also in! I've got a stinking cold though and sent home from work - wondering if I am better of f waiting for it to pass before I start

PurpleClare50 · 21/01/2025 17:26

OMG done my first dose.
How bad can it be....

Yay! I'm glad you're in.

Id say so about waiting until you're better as you don't want to feel doubly sick as you won't know if your experiencing your illness or a side effect I guess.

I'm the same, I'm having a flare so don't feel great. Still deciding what to do but I think I'll know once the pen turns up what I'll do with that

MelodicStarfall · 21/01/2025 17:41

@Earthgirl3971 my sister starts this week to hopefully so I might start on Friday... I'm a teacher so I'm worried about the side effects.

MelodicStarfall · 21/01/2025 17:48

I've been approved but no dispatch information yet- although app says "due tomorrow"

SianyEvs40 · 21/01/2025 18:06

Hello. I just found out that I've been accepted into the programme! Yay! I'm a little bit scared though - I've read the horror stories after all - but I really hope it helps. I need to lose about 10 stone ideally, so anything that will help to make that process a little easier.

I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's successes 😊 xx

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 21/01/2025 18:17

Me too @SianyEvs40 . I'm thinking that the risks of carrying on at this weight are also high so it's a case of weighing the risks up and probably more clear cut for us than those just losing a couple of stone.

My blood test just came through and it was generally as expected (high cholesterol). But the GGT result is very high (75.8) which is a bit worrying. I don't drink much alcohol so I'm guessing fatty liver. Did anyone else get a high result and still get the prescription from Shemed? I am worried in case they say no!

Hi. My GGT result was higher than that, and they've just prescribed it for me, so fingers crossed for you x

SianyEvs40 · 21/01/2025 18:39

Mieliwood · 21/01/2025 14:44

Prescription approved and due to be delivered tomorrow.

I'm ready to do this, I need to do this, prepared, researched etc so why now it's becoming real do I feel physically sick at the thought of it?

I feel exactly the same. A real mix of excited and hopeful, but also scared poopless! 🙈

I agree with you. There's real risks to being this size, and there's also risks to the jab, so it's a case of weighing it up and picking the risks that might keep me alive the longest x

DIYMum · 21/01/2025 19:01

Hi All
just checking in. Today has been very strange - my appetite is back 😬 I’m W2D5 and was getting used to having to remember to eat. Today I’ve had to really resist over eating and my sweet tooth is back!
I’m trying hard not to cave in.
I realise the 2.5 mg is a test but was amazed at the initial effect and really inspired by some of the losses shared here already. My own loss has been much smaller but still in the right direction up to now). Hoping suppression returns with next jab and/or when dose increases.
@OneAzureMaker i hope your side effects improve @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden you’re right, it’s worth logging side effects, I did when I was struggling in week 1 and they rang me, were really supportive and gave some really helpful advice.
Good luck to all those just starting out - this group is a great support.

FeverDreamer · 21/01/2025 20:35

W1D5 & feeling OK so far - limited side effects & I think I'm feeling some suppression (able to have smaller portions & say no to food).

Received a Shemed email today about their 10-week support programme. From what I can see, it is a website with links to different blogs/worksheets. I guess we are supposed to do this alongside MJ to support new habits/weight loss - has anyone had a look at this? Started any of the activities? I'm a little confused about what to do with it - whether it's just reading through the elements weekly or something different.

I've read through the first wwwks bits and it's kind of generic goal setting feel good stuff
There's no way I'll remember to do it each week I can't see why they don't email it or attach it to the app! I'm actually not sure it tells you much more than generic stuff....

Hi everyone and thanks for starting this thread.

I've just been accepted onto this and feeling excited to get started. My bmi is 39 and realistically I'd need to lose 5-6 stone to get to a healthy weight 😅

We sound very similar. I'm 5'4" and 16st, I need to be 10st to be at a healthy bmi.

I genuinely believe my boobs weigh a bloody stone each so I'm really looking forward to not hauling them around for much longer.

I know what you mean, I'm not sure it's too helpful beyond general advice which Is a bit disappointing as I expected a tailored plan to my goals etc which is what has been advertised within the subscription.

What would be helpful though is a pinned page (or similar) to combine all of the ideas about habit changes and hacks.

For instance I've just bought some bathroom scales that do BMI and body fat % and started taking an inositol supplement around a month ago which had really helped with fatigue.

Plus a list of what people are eating.

I've been on the FB shemed group for a lurk and it doesn't look too inviting over there: going to stay right here for my journey and updates if that's alright it's a much more welcoming and interactive group.

X

Fofftwenty21 · 21/01/2025 21:04

@BruhWhy absolutely 💯 I'm 5ft 6 but I have a higher starting weight.

Excited to see how we all get on!
