Welcome all December 2024 starters, and November and January starters too😊. As we're almost at the end of the first thread, I thought to start a new one before it finishes.

Sorry you're also feeling under the weather, @LC4life and @MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals. Hopefully we'll all perk up as the spring progresses.

@Goinghome20 I'm a bit disconcerted by this low blood pressure thing. Am quite woozy. Might also be what's making me tired, not just the after effects of 'flu. Hmm.

I'm now consistently on 5mg for the first time (2x 2.5) and feeling more suppression.

I also realize I'm less hungry when I make sure I eat really nutritiously, protein and lots different fruit and veg. I think I used to feel hungry but actually my body needed nutrition, not just calories, iyswim. I mean, I kind of knew that and my diet wasn't bad, but I'm more conscious about it now. And since i'm eating less, I have to be more deliberate about choosing good stuff.

Check your iron levels. Might be worth seeing GP if no improvement soon.

shrinkingthiswinter · 09/03/2025 21:38

Yes, will do. I think I'm due for blood tests quite soon anyway; my prescribing service does them. I'm going to start taking iron supplements anyway.

Week 14 weigh and jab day
SW 15 stone
CW 13 stone 1
TW 9 stone

2 lbs gone this week- that milestone of 2 stone off is so close! 27lb total. Felt better this week, good in fact- still a bit of nausea but constipation has improved. Suppression quite high but have been able to eat. Crossing my fingers that next week the number starts with a 12!

frogpigdonkey · 10/03/2025 07:08

I also added just a basic multi vitamin with iron and I think that's helped too.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 10/03/2025 11:27

I'm due to order my next pen but I'm close to target now. I've reached out to medexpress to discuss maintenance. Might be slightly challenge as I've only recently gone up to 5mg 3 weeks ago and it's working quite strongly for me.

SW 14 stone 3.8 BMI 32.2
CW 11 stone 4.2 BMI 25.5
20.8% body weight lost so far
TW 11 stone BMI 24.9

Has anyone else started thinking about maintenance?

frogpigdonkey · 10/03/2025 12:04

Well done @HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow that's amazing! Sadly am nowhere near thinking about maintenance but I think there are some other threads on it- some pharmacies are better than MedExpress at supporting the maintenance phase from what I've read

shrinkingthiswinter · 10/03/2025 12:42

Congratulations @HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow! You must be our thread's first almost-at-goal!

I've got a while to go - down 16kg from BMI 35 to 29 and now 14kg left to BMI 24. Definitely want to lose another 10kg, but I was pretty slim and fit on that weight in my youth, so not sure going the whole hog to BMI 24 will be a good idea. Will see.

For maintenance, my GP says he now recommends people stay on mj for at least 18-24 months after reaching their goal. My prescribing service recommends 'a few years'. So I certainly hope to stay on it for at least 2 years, but ideally indefinitely. I was getting into the prediabetic bracket for blood sugar, so I'd much rather stay on mj and have the blood sugar control than risk developing diabetes. And I just generally feel better on the medicine. Since I first injected, I've had much less inflammation and joint pain. I'm pleasantly cool (occasionally deathly freezing) instead of perimenopausally pink and sweaty. So I hope nothing comes up that stops me staying on this. It seems likely that generic and tablet alternatives will appear at some point and make it easier and cheaper.

I've just gone up to 5mg and have a lot of suppression. So I suppose once I get to target I might be looking at tapering back down to 2.5mg and reviewing? Then maybe 2.5mg every 10 days, or something like that? On 2.5 I was able to eat 3 times a day, though not much or anything fried. My calorie needs will be lower by that point, of course, so 2.5mg for a while may be a good idea. Hope to be dealing with this by end of June!

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 10/03/2025 13:01

@shrinkingthiswinter interesting that you're cooler, I know someone on it that's always cold. I'm the opposite, almost always warm or too warm (frustrated when the heating comes on, but family cold so need it).

I suspect that due to weight loss my levothyroxine dose is a bit higher than I need and causing the heat difference.

I'm not against staying on for a while to consolidate my new weight.

I've still got a little bit more fat on my midriff than I had previously at the same weight so I'll keep up doing the exercise to try and balance that out.

I've had slightly raised resting heart rate compared to before starting and that's the one thing that has me thinking about coming off at some point

I think it's been a great med for me, and I've been a rapid responder, it'll be interesting to keep comparing all of our journeys 😊

Im not near maintenence yet but my bmi is 28 so heading towards healthy ehich feels great!

I switched provider last month to Oushk because they are good for maintenance. I plan on staying on MJ at a low dose indefinately if I can afford to!

If I needed medication for high blood pressure or high cholesterol I would be on it for life. Cannot see how this is any different. This medication is life changing!

JunoRoma · 10/03/2025 13:59

@HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow well done on your progress, 20% of weight lost is a significant achievement.

@HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow well done on your progress, 20% of weight lost is a significant achievement.

Thanks JunoRoma, it's been really fast, exceeding expectations.

10 years ago I lost a similar amount with slimming world over 7 months. This has been 14 weeks. It'll be interesting to see how maintenance goes. I keep all the weight off until 3 years ago and it just started piling on month by month. It coincided with menopause and hypothyroidism diagnosis.

It has felt like the meds have done more than just impact my appetite. In fact I'm only eating 200-400 Cals less per day on average, but the weight loss is higher than that would warrant. It feels like it's switched off what ever was going on to trigger weight gain in my body. I'm nervous that without MJ it may revert and even keeping at low cals the weight may pile on.

My plan is to take it steady and adjust depending on on weight trajectories. I want to stay within a couple lb either side of my optimum like I did during slimming world maintenance. That seemed to work well for me

@LC4life thanks! I’m getting much better but still croaky and not well enough for gym. It must have been a really vicious virus, since this is going on for 4 weeks. I hoped I’d have a better immune system once not obese, but apparently not.

I had this in Feb, started 1st Feb and even now don't feel 100% but am able to exercise at least now. Hope you start to feel better soon.

Julesni77 · 11/03/2025 11:06

@LC4life I have not officially weighed since my 3lbs gain and am just trying to chill and trust the process - my strength is good and i am being consistent with my training and that is good for now - I am on my second 5mg pen after 2 2.5mg pens and will weigh at the end of each pen now so see how that approach goes. I am looking forward to moving up to 7.5mg next pen as I am far more hungry now than I have been since the start of the process but definitely trying to be more chill as this going to be a lifelong thing for me and its only still near the start of the journey

MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals · 11/03/2025 11:45

Slightly more positive today. I hit the 10% body weight lost this am. I'm drinking lots this week and just need a bit of a reset.
Im tempted to up my dose to 5mg on Sunday though. 3.75 isn't giving me the suppression I want at all. I miss the first few weeks of 2.5mg feeling when it all just worked for me.

Julesni77 · 11/03/2025 12:23

@MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals I get the feeling like lots of us are leaving the honeymoon period! But plodding slowly onwards and (hopefully!) downwards

I always hold on to the fact that it has been years since I have been able to sustain a diet so long!

shrinkingthiswinter · 11/03/2025 12:37

@Julesni77 that's very wise. Will try to think more like that and not hurry and fuss. I want to be a healthy weight forever now and hopefully that's a long time. I lost energy in Feb (always do), but now can feel my mentality shifting from 'ooo this works!' to a much longer game. It's very good to have this thread and talk to others on the same road.

@MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals Congratulations on the 10%! Are you feeling better without those pounds? I've recently gone up to 5mg and have far more suppression than on 3.75. Possibly too much. Surprised by how much difference it is. So hope you get same effect. I've been doing 2.5 twice a week to reduce side effects and it took 2 or 3 doses to build up, but now I have enough suppression that I'm having to make sure every mouthful is extra nutritious.

JunoRoma · 11/03/2025 13:47

@MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals well done on reaching the 10% milestone!

Goinghome20 · 11/03/2025 17:32

Well done @MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals 🙂

Goinghome20 · 11/03/2025 17:34

@Julesni77 good mindset to have. Im also in this for the duration. Someone else posted another thread about the difficulty of getting your head around successful weight loss. Im finding it hard to believe after so many years of stress and disappointment with myself.... but this is actually working!

Shmee1988 · 11/03/2025 19:04

Hi everyone. So nice to read all the positive comments... I'm after a bit of advice, on 2 things really.

Firsty, I was supposed to jab last night (currently on 5mg) but when I went to jab I realised that I had none left. Just about 1.5mg and the bonus dose. I tried snapping the pen as with my last one but it didn't work so I'm getting a syringe tomorrow. Can I extract my full bonus dose and inject the rest tomorrow? Or do I still need to wait the recommended 3 days?

Also, I've felt really rubbish all the way through my 5mg pen. Last week I dropped down to 3.75 and felt better but ALOT hungrier. I'm unsure now about what to do. I've heard people struggle with side effects on 5mg but they seem to get much better one moving to 7.5mg. Does anyone have any advice on this please? I dont know whether to move up, or order another 5mg pen and stay at 3.75.
