Welcome all December 2024 starters, and November and January starters too😊. As we're almost at the end of the first thread, I thought to start a new one before it finishes.

@HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow I switched from rybelus to MJ when it stopped working by which point I only had 14lbs to goal. I reached goal on 12.5mg so went up to 15mg but injected half doses as maintenance. That seems to have worked. Only needing a pen every 9 weeks bring cost right down.

HT2025 · 01/03/2025 13:47

@Lindy0070 exactly - I am more than happy to spend the money if it works. But I have run out of options if this doesnt start to work. I have 3 weeks of injections left then will give up if I am the same.

sorry you are feel disheartened too 🤗

Yes. I have been maintaining since November. I got to 15mg but only take 1/2 dose. With 5th dose I get 9 from a pen. Just buy extra needles. I just feel normal. I get hungry, I snack ( love a bag of frazzles) but absolutely can't over eat. It's like I just don't need to think about what I eat.

Edited

@Londonlady365 May I ask - if you're getting 9 doses out of a pen, you must be using it well beyond the 30 days it says to use it by once opened. Do you worry about the safety of doing that? Is it generally thought that the 30 day limit is overly cautious?

Do you track your food as well as do Mounjaro? We're using myfitnesspal ti track food and prioritising protein

I want to make sure that I understand my baseline calorie needs and at what point I'm losing. I'm generally not managing to eat more than 1000 calories a day, but that is only about 200 - 400 less than I was eating whilst gaining weight (the joys of menopause and thyroid issues)

I suspect that Mounjaro is affecting more than my appetite as I seem to be losing weight quicker this calorie deficit would suggest, and that's my worry about potentially rebounding when I try to come off

Londonlady365 · 01/03/2025 18:11

@BigTightropeWalker I am very careful to sterilise the red bung before and after use. Use clean needles and make sure I return to very cold fridge straight away. I have never had a problem. I suspect it might lose some potency. First injection from new pen feels stronger.

JunoRoma · 01/03/2025 18:29

@Londonlady365 is your provider happy to keep prescribing with 9 week gaps between each pen? Or have they agreed to a one-month-on-one-month-off schedule?

I was getting 8/25 expiry dates so I did monthly orders for 4 months. Don't know what I will do when they run out. Probably just stop and hope its OK.

Slimwannabe · 02/03/2025 11:24

Another week staying the same, which is a bit frustrating. I really want to get out of my typical weight yo-yo zone, but will have to try to be patient. Another 5mg pen is en route, but I think I need to go up to 7.5 after that and try to get things moving again.

JunoRoma · 02/03/2025 11:31

@Slimwannabe are you noticing changes in body shape? I seem to lose either kg or cm but never both in the same week.

Thats a really good point.

I too am getting a bit fed up with such slow/no changes on the scales now

but!

my clothes are fitting so much better.!

and...

had a comment of "my god youve lost weight" this weekend from someone I havent seen since Christmas🙂

Slimwannabe · 02/03/2025 14:32

I haven't measured for a bit as I wasn't seeing much change there, so will do a measure-up later!

MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals · 02/03/2025 15:40

@HT2025 I stalled a bit and realised that nailing protein for breakfast has helped boost me back to 1lb per week (never been bigger losses than that other than week 1).
I have a pint of water as soon as I wake up, and then have a high protein yoghurt too (so getting in 22g protein straight away). That's made a difference to me.

Ive injected 3.75 today. Decided to finally move up after 11 weeks at 2.5mg. The food noise by mid week was just loud!
weight on Friday was 13.3.1 so 20lbs loss. I could weigh this am as have been away for the weekend. I'll see tomorrow what damage the gorgeous tapas has done.

PresidentBarklett · 02/03/2025 20:51

Checking in. I've had an odd month, with about 3lbs off in total on 5mg. In the final week, all the positive MJ benefits stopped altogether and it was basically like injecting water. I went up to 7.5mg last Friday and, let me tell you, its basically the daddy. Immediate response, like the early days of 2.5. Lost 5lbs this week, which is surprising as I made a real effort to eat 1450 plus cals. Undoubtedly (hopefully!) it will taper to 2lbs a week again, but quite the boost.

I'm now on 40lbs lost since Nov 23 and starting to see it.

MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals · 03/03/2025 11:14

Another 1lb off. So now at 20lb in 12 weeks.

so close to 1.5 stone and 10% of body weight!

frogpigdonkey · 03/03/2025 17:19

Week 13 weigh and jab day- first 10mg jab
SW 15 stone
CW 13 stone 3
TW ?? 9 stone

My first absolute plateau- after several weeks of 1lb a week then a mighty 4lb last week am not entirely surprised. I've eaten more carbs this week- was a little nauseous and they appealed more. Did settle my stomach but then I was a bit constipated so added more fibre and fruit which seems to have helped. Also had a friends birthday which involved much booze and a Chinese! The difference this time is I don't feel like it's all over- I know it's a blip and just need to carry on making the right food choices and trust the process and the MJ!

frogpigdonkey · 03/03/2025 18:34

@MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals we sound very similar in terms of start weight and progress! Keep on keeping on 😁😁

And well done all on this journey- it's not easy when you see people having amazing losses and it feels like a bit of a plod. But I'm trying to see it as a marathon not a sprint and remind myself it's been many years since I even weighed what I do now, and longer than that since I stuck to a diet long enough to lose a stone and a half.

That's exactly right. After so many years (!) of gaining and losing the same stone, to be almost 3 down feels nothing short of miraculous. This is the first time in a decade that I've actually felt confident that I'll get to a healthy weight. It's been, frankly, life changing.

frogpigdonkey · 03/03/2025 20:53

@PresidentBarklett I hear ya! I know it's repetitive but I'm sure all of us who are fat know what we need to do not to be. It's not rocket science. But I feel that the drug helps me not think about food all the time and helps me do what I need to do to get there. Despite the odd tummy upset I haven't felt so good in years, and I've never felt so confident that I will get to my elusive healthy weight.

BigTightropeWalker · 03/03/2025 21:30

Does anyone here use protein powder to supplement their protein intake? If so, which one would you recommend? And what do you put it on/in?

I'm having a scoop a day of protein powder because I'm worried about getting enough protein from my diet to maintain muscle while I'm losing weight. I don't eat meat or fish. I eat half a dozen eggs a week, but that only averages 10g of protein a day, and there's only so much tofu / lentils / chickpeas I can manage.

I'm using BlueLab Whey because it was on offer in Costco and I had already tried some and knew I like the taste. I usually mix it with milk, or occasionally with 50 / 50 orange juice / water.

shrinkingthiswinter · 04/03/2025 13:00

SW 103.6 kg
CW 88.45
GW 83, then 78, then maybe 73

Down only 0.3kg this week, but that was deliberate because I've had an awful cold and cough virus which I'm having trouble shaking off. At first I had a big whoosh because my appetite disappeared completely, but then I decided to eat a bit more, 3 meals with lots of fruit and veg, to try to get well. Annoyingly it'll be at least 3 weeks away from the gym, but I am up to short walks now.

@BigTightropeWalker I sometimes have Huel black powder for lunch and their bars for an afternoon snack. I also have a couple of kinds of chocolate protein powder which I sometimes put in my morning coffee as breakfast. Star Nutrition Whey 100 is one of them, PhD Nutrition peanut and chocolate the other. And I've got some fruit clear whey ones which I've been meaning to add to gym water bottle and use as afternoon snacks, though that hasn't happened yet because of above-mentioned illness.

JunoRoma · 04/03/2025 13:24

Going by jeans of the same brand and style, I'm now two clothes sizes smaller than I was when I started. I'm about 60% of the way to my goal, and ideally would like to drop one more size.

@shrinkingthiswinter my current weight is exactly the same as yours! I hope you feel better soon.

shrinkingthiswinter · 04/03/2025 13:31

Meant to say, I saw my GP yesterday. Was a bit worried about it because I wasn't sure how he'd react to me taking the medication, but he was really sensible and supportive. He said he's started prescribing it to a few patients who've asked for it (though here like in the UK it's not covered by prescription charges; you have to pay for it), so he was interested to hear about my doses and how it's going.

Also a non-scale victory - DH gave me a necklace when we got married and it has been too small for years, but now it fits!

shrinkingthiswinter · 04/03/2025 13:40

@JunoRoma oo a weight buddy! How tall are you? I'm 172 cm so need to be under 75 kg to be within the 'normal' BMI range. Now that I'm halfway to 73 kg, I think I might try to get there and stay under 75. Previously thought would try to stay under 80. Will see.

I'm very sort of just large all over, big hands and feet, wide shoulders and hips, and quite muscular, so I've never looked quite as overweight as I've actually been, and I don't think under 73 would be sensible, even if that's right at the top of the normal range. I was about that when I was 18 and fit, so smaller doesn't seem healthy, whatever the charts say.

So at the moment I have 83 as a first goal, because I remember feeling and looking good when I got back down to that weight after first DC. And it's light enough for horse riding! Then 78, then will see about 73.

shrinkingthiswinter · 04/03/2025 13:43

On the GP, what I meant to say what that he told me he's now recommending patients stay on the medication for at least 18-24 months after reaching their goal weight, in order to reduce the risk of going straight back up. He said there are new findings that suggest this is a good approach, though I don't know what studies those are. He said - which of course is true - that everyone is still trying to figure out how to get the best out of this drug.
