Welcome all December 2024 starters, and November and January starters too😊. As we're almost at the end of the first thread, I thought to start a new one before it finishes.

Just had an old clothes sort out.

Size 8s…….they look like the clothes of a child. Can’t imagine ever fitting into them again.

Size 10s………could get into some but looked like an overstuffed sausage.

size 12s…..most fitted.

I have been wearing elasticated waists for years, in denial that I was probably edging towards a 16.

JunoRoma · 24/02/2025 13:02

@shrinkingthiswinter well done on getting out of the obese zone!

Slimwannabe · 24/02/2025 18:33

@JunoRoma that's such a win in itself, being able to socialise and enjoy yourself, and maintain your weight - really bodes well for when you move to maintenance!

Waymarked7 · 24/02/2025 19:10

Has anyone else been struggling with illness? Like colds, flu etc?

Not sure if its the MJ but I have just been the illest I've been in years, think I had flu, then sinusitis back to back and still not feeling great 3 weeks in. Now have a sore throat and sore ears. Honestly feels like the cold I can't get rid of. Didn't have a flu jab this year but otherwise fit and well.

I have lost most of my weight now, 3-4kg to go and struggling with the motivation to buy another pen as I just want to feel well again. And whilst I would like to lose this last bit to be back into a normal BMI, not sure I can keep going with it. Got 2 more 5mg doses then unsure what to do....

Haven't weighed in last 2 weeks as scales are at work and I've been off sick but am feeling hungrier again. But have done 6 weeks at 5mg so far...

JunoRoma · 24/02/2025 19:45

@Slimwannabe thank you, that's a more positive way of framing it.

frogpigdonkey · 24/02/2025 20:27

@Waymarked7 no, in fact ive dodged all the bugs this year! Sorry you have been sick- I know lots of people who have suffered for weeks with these nasty bugs this year. But I don't see a link with MJ.

@JunoRoma that's how I try and see it too- I'll go out for a nice lunch or dinner if I want one! But the MJ helps- I can make better food choices or eat less overall. But if there are truffle Parmesan chips on the menu I'm having some! This is a long journey, with or without the drugs, and if I can have nice things to eat without blowing the whole thing up I'm going to do it! The difference with MJ is being able to stop, or seeing it as one meal rather than an excuse to quit the diet altogether

shrinkingthiswinter · 24/02/2025 23:19

@Waymarked7 I’ve got a horrible cold, but then I always do at this time of year. So far I have been less ill than I often am in the winter. Losing a lot of weight fast is likely to be a strain for the body, but with vitamins and good nutrition hopefully ok.

As I get closer to target I’m going to take it more slowly though. I’d like to get rid of the next 5 kg at my usual 1 per week and then the 5 after than can take a while. If I do another 5 to get under 25 BMI, they can take months. That’s my feeling at the moment anyway. After all health is the real goal and I want to make sure my body is getting all it needs to be well alongside losing fat

No, I have actually avoided all the bugs this year — despite my adult son bringing two different bugs home just before and after Christmas. I did have a flu jab, which I'm sure helps.
Any time I think I might have something incubating, I take zinc for a few days. That really seems to help. There are also some studies showing it shortens the duration of colds etc if you do get one.
Also, if the weight loss also means you're not getting enough vitamins and minerals that might also be an issue

WittyLimeBiscuit · 25/02/2025 06:09

My other half retired recently and we booked a last minute cruise next month to celebrate. Between the drinks package and the constant temptation of food I usually put on several pounds, so will be curious to see how it goes this time.

Alcohol won't be an issue as there is zero temptation to get the alcoholic drinks package (and feel I have to get my money's worth) and a lot of the highly calorific foods I'd normally go for really don't appeal.

There are usually plenty of lower calorie options and they are used to catering for people with diabetes, but will be curious to see if the cruise companies are making any adjustments for jabbers. Given that America is a huge market (literally) it makes business sense to cater for us.

Also bought this little case for the trip. Had decent reviews, was one of the cheaper ones and also includes the chiller packs, which some don't

I've only lost 2.5kg in February and had some slight nausea/dizziness maybe due to going up to 5mg. But I have been ill for quite a bit of the month with a tooth extraction/operation, loads of antibiotics and painkillers (that needed taking with food) and generally feeling rubbish, not sure which symptoms are Mounjaro or all the other meds. I haven't been calorie counting either.

Hoping to be through it this week and be a bit more focussed and get back to the gym.

SW 85.9 kg
CW 79.5 kg
GW 60kg

Maybe I was overreacting about not buying another pen! Haha

Need to get some more vitamins in, have been taking them but not religiously so will try that and see if it helps, did some exercise for the first time in Feb today after being so ill for so long and that was a bit of a shock for my poor body haha

JunoRoma · 25/02/2025 13:31

@Waymarked7 so far this winter I've only had one cold, and got that more mildly than the rest of my family. It might be coincidence, or possibly the fact that I've been eating more healthily than I did in previous years (more fruit & veg etc) and have been doing more exercise.

MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals · 25/02/2025 18:21

Hey all.

Some fab losses again from everyone!

I need some help from you knowledgable lot if thats ok? I need to go up a dose I think. I've managed 2.5 for 10 weeks, but I'm struggling this week and it's only Tuesday. I'm going to go for 3.75 and see how I get on.

My current pen is 2.5. I've used two doses. So to do 3.75 I think I need one full dose and then 15 clicks?

That then leaves me 15 clicks left, for 1.25 and then a bonus dose of 2.5. If I just extract the bonus dose and the 1.25 together how many mls would that be, my maths says 0.9 on the syringe. Is that right? (0.6ml is 2.5 dose, half that again is another 0.3ml). I'm an engineer. I can do maths! But checking I'm dosing right.

Does that make sense?

JunoRoma · 25/02/2025 19:12

These would be my calculations for the medication in a 2.5mg pen:

30 clicks contains 1.25mg
60 clicks contains 2.5mg
90 clicks (60 + 30) contains 3.75mg

0.3ml contains 1.25mg
0.6ml contains 2.5mg
0.9ml contains 3.75mg

MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals · 25/02/2025 19:16

JunoRoma · 25/02/2025 19:12

These would be my calculations for the medication in a 2.5mg pen:

30 clicks contains 1.25mg
60 clicks contains 2.5mg

0.3ml contains 1.25mg
0.6ml contains 2.5mg
0.9ml contains 3.75mg

Thanks @JunoRoma I'd just got it as 15 clicks for half, but you're spot on, 30
is it.

This week I'll do 3.75 and then extract 0.9ml on my last week and do that.

So on my 5mg pen 3.75 will be 45 clicks :)

Slimwannabe · 26/02/2025 10:30

@Waymarked7 I used to pick up loads of colds and bugs but I started taking a spray vitamin D supplement and I've not come down with any sniffles since.

Shmee1988 · 26/02/2025 15:02

Hi. I hope you don't mind me posting here. I am a January starter but I'm looking for some advice and thought you guys on here would be able to help.
So, I started my WLIs at the beginning of Jan, felt absolutely fine on 2.5mg, no negative side effects, however I didn't have alot of suppression and survived mainly on willpower. Went up to 5mg after the first 4 weeks and have felt absolutely awful since. I have felt sick every single day, tired and have a headache. I've not been hungry reqlly but that's been down to the constant, unwavering onslaught of nausea!! I was considering stopping but I've read and been told by many people that this seems to be quite common. That alot of people feel rough on 5mg and then absolutely fine when they go up to 7.5mg. I'm not absolutely sure if I'm sold on this so thought I'd ask if anyone on here has had a similar experience? Thanks for reading, any advice or experiences would be appreciated.

shrinkingthiswinter · 26/02/2025 15:07

Hi Shemee, I’ve had to stay under 5mg. Tried it once because I’m still quite hungry but it felt like too much. I just felt sick and my tummy was upset. I’ve been losing fine on 2.5 and 3.75, so I plan to stay there, or might try again if I stall. Over 14kg down since early Dec.

@Shmee1988 I've been lucky enough to have been fine on 5mg but am sticking at this level until the weight loss stalls and I have to go up. Been on it for 8 weeks so far.

JunoRoma · 26/02/2025 18:42

@Shmee1988 if you are experiencing side effects that you're finding it difficult to tolerate then I would suggest either (a) staying at the current dose for another 4 weeks, or (b) reducing the dose slightly (e.g. by counting clicks).

Regarding the people who had side effects on 5mg which improved when they moved up 7.5mg: their body may have adjusted to tolerating the medication better and the timing is probably coincidence.

STS this week. I
ts my 4th dose of 5mg and only lost 2lb in past 5 weeks.
Was going to do bonus dose from 5mg pen.. but maybe I need to up to 7.5mg next week?
Have new scales so I could blame them!

Calories are around 1300 a day with lots of walking. Food suppression still not bad until last 2 days.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 27/02/2025 09:57

@Goinghome20 I think it sounds like you're ready to increase your dose.

With the scale change there can be significant difference so your baseline may have changed when you started to use the new scale. But once you had a new baseline the progress should be unaffected.

Although my scales are really temperamental if not on an absolutely flat surface. I've got them placed carefully but occasionally DH moves them and it can make a 2lb difference either way so I spend ages moving them around until they are reading consistently again
