Welcome all December 2024 starters, and November and January starters too😊. As we're almost at the end of the first thread, I thought to start a new one before it finishes.

I hope you don’t mind me
joining in here. I’ve got a prescription from
my Dr but haven’t filled it yet. A lot of people seem to be losing a lot of weight in a short amount of time, which is fabulous and encouraging.

Do you find people ask you about it? What do you tell
them? I’m interested in how open people are about using weight loss drugs. If you do tell people, what sort of reaction are you getting?

I haven't told anyone, I think it is my private info.

I am still calorie counting and I walk a lot too, if people notice I have lost weight that is all I will put it down to 😃

Hi there,
I’ve not told anyone that I’m on the jabs. Two women in work have been on them since way before Christmas and are open in our friendship group. They had a mixed reaction from the group, some were shocked and dead against it. I was intrigued and here I am!! I’ve not lost a noticeable amount of weight to warrant any comments yet but I’ve been trying to be good too and have started tracking my food on MFP. I want to make sure I’m getting enough protein really.

glittermittens · 27/01/2025 15:16

@Beebsta I have only told 2 people, my best friend as she was already on it and gave me lots of advice. And recently I told a work colleague as she told me she was starting. I have told no one else and have no intention to do so. Family know I am trying to lose weight, but through diet and exercise which is true but I feel no need to share the WLI with them. I'm 17lbs down now and people have noticed some change, and I just say I'm watching what I eat.

OrangeDonald · 27/01/2025 18:49

Jab day tomorrow, will be my 8th.

I've been feeling a bit of a failure for "only" losing just over 1lb a week when others are whooshing down so much more, but recently i read somewhere that a "super responder" is someone who drops their weight by 5% in the first 3 months. And I'm nearly at that already. So now I'm feeling all super

Will stay on 3.75 as suppression is at perfect level, i can still eat but without any real hunger.

I've got a new side effects, same as a few of you have mentioned - long period. Normally lasts 5-7 days, I'm now on day 10, although more like very light spotting at this point. Days 1-5 were normal but it's just carried on very light.

frogpigdonkey · 27/01/2025 20:28

Weigh and jab day
SW 15 stone
CW 13 stone 10
GW ?? 10 stone

Bit frustrated that losses seem to have slowed when I feel like I'm eating very little and very well! Have had much slower losses on 5 than on 2.5. I'm menopausal and haven't had a period for months but I feel premenstrual at the moment so wondering if that has anything to do with it. Side effects still fairly minimal although suppression is quite strong. Just hoped to be a bit further along by now!

18lb loss is brilliant in such a short time! My losses have slowed down now but I am telling myself its giving my body time to adjust to the lighter me and get used to being and hopefully staying smaller!

I’m trying 3.75 to move up gently. And because I want to take as little as possible in order to have a low maintenance dose.

Fwiw, the doctor-led service that prescribes my pens says they are fine for up to half a year. The service doesn’t make anything from selling the pens, they just provide the prescriptions for a monthly fee. So they have no incentive to hurry you through them.

I was happy to buy a new one every month, not least since my health insurance refunds me anyway. But the doctor was like don’t be silly, that’d be really expensive and unnecessary, since they remain effective much longer. So I used the first 5mg pen at 2.5 per week for 8 weeks and now I have been prescribed a 15mg pen to use very slowly for 4-6 months, depending on dose.

I realize that isn’t what the manufacturer says. But I’m in a cautious Scandinavian country and willing to trust the dr.

Edited

Are the instructions that come with the medication different in your country? and does it come as a prefilled pen with 4 doses?

frogpigdonkey · 27/01/2025 21:24

Thanks @Goinghome20 I know rationally this is good and it's steady progress. I think it's partly that this is somewhere I have been a lot of times weight wise and got frustrated and then cheated and then gone back up. I really don't want to do that this time but emotionally a good 4th week would feel like a reward for my efforts!

frogpigdonkey · 27/01/2025 21:26

4lb week not 4th week!

shrinkingthiswinter · 28/01/2025 03:18

I have told a few people, because I’m a big blab. They have been intrigued/supportive. One friend who has a lot of food issues turns out to be worried about WLIs, mostly for reasons to do with her own anxieties.

For everyone else I’m just like yeah I’m at the gym a lot now and have pretty much given up cake and alcohol. I’ve gone down at least a dress size so it’s quite obvious.

The most difficult is friends who could really do with this treatment but can’t afford it. Don’t want to say anything to them. Or friends or are overweight and might think I was hinting.

Something really positive is that I’m arranging to see as many friends etc as possible during this journey. So that they see a halfway stage and aren’t freaked out by meeting 0.75 of me all of a sudden.

(@Goinghome20 yeah, it’s exactly the same Kwikpen, which is why I’m surprised at the doctors going out on a limb to say longer is fine. It’s not surprising that it’s fine, but it’s surprising to me that they say so.)

Its really interesting that the doctors are saying its ok where you live isnt it. They must build in a buffer time wise or people would push it more..

shrinkingthiswinter · 28/01/2025 17:57

@OrangeDonald it’s funny about the fast/slow thing, isn’t it? I see people on some threads feeling like they’re slow losers when they’re dropping a couple of pounds a week. But that makes them very very responsive to the medicine according to the literature. And would losing faster be a good idea? Maybe we all just look at the absolute fastest results and compare ourselves to those. Really a pound a week consistently over several weeks is astonishingly effective weight loss!

TrinityWaves · 29/01/2025 10:38

I've finished off the 5mg pen, I got out 0.7ml in an insulin syringe. It would've been 0.8ml but the first 0.1ml I managed to pull the plunger thing all the way out and of course out fell the liquid 😂

Anyway I'm down 2.8 lb this week
SW 263.4
CW 232.2
TL 31.2

Julesni77 · 29/01/2025 10:47

I am finally at the end of the 2.5mls as i stayed on for 8 weeks - definitely been able to eat more but keeping it healthy - cals between 1500 - 2000 with good protein of 100-130g and strength training 3 times a week minimum

I don't weigh in until tomorrow and am taking my first 5mg dose which I hope will up the suppression just a little and I have 2 5mg pens to work my way through as for cost reasons I dont want to move up the doses too quickly

I have a 40th birthday stay in a hotel on Sunday so I also want to be able to enjoy a few drinks - so far nothing I have eaten on drank has given me bad side affects but the plan is not to go overboard and spend a good check of time swimming and in spa!

Nervous and excited to see how 5mg goes

SW 19.1
SW 17.9
GW 14 maybe?

I decided to make the dose up to 7.5mg in the end and sort of bridge between the 2 pens, so I worked out all the Maths and did a bit out the new 7.5 pen. So this will be my first week on 7.5mg. I'm hoping this is the right dose for me now, 5 worked OK but I feel like I need a tiny bit more suppression and anti-cravings.

Julesni77 · 29/01/2025 15:51

oops weighed a day early and up 1.5lbs - calories must have been creeping up too high - just really hitting home that I will definitely have to stay on this for life - lets see what the 5mg brings!

Fedupdoc · 29/01/2025 17:00

God my nausea is really bad currently. Injected yesterday (7.5). Woke at 2am and needed to vomit. Then had lots of burping for about an hour before I could sleep. Anyone else struggled with this?

glittermittens · 29/01/2025 18:15

@Fedupdoc I'm the same! On my first week of 5mg after and the nausea has been almost constant, Sunday I thought it was easing off but no it's still lingering. Honestly it's reminding me off how I felt during pregnancies. Suppression has been much better though than last week when I was still on 3.75mg.

JunoRoma · 29/01/2025 18:16

After three weeks of rather strong suppression on 3.75mg, the fourth week on 3.75mg has been more moderate. No side effects.

On the afternoon of day four I had sugar cravings for the first time in a while. Since starting Mounjaro and changing my diet, I've noticed that the sugar cravings seem to happen within the 24 hours after I've eaten high-sugar, high-fat ultra-processed food, in this case a small slice of shop-bought birthday cake. Pre-Mounjaro I was eating cake, biscuits and chocolate so often that it wouldn't have been possible to spot a pattern.

On days six and seven this past week I felt actually hungry and had a proper appetite, for the first time in a while. I'm aware that I need to train myself to manage hunger and develop a habit of making healthy eating choices (and portion sizes) when I'm hungry. With that in mind I've done a fifth dose of 3.75mg this evening, and I'll see how this next week goes.

Weekly weigh in is tomorrow morning. I'm expecting the weight loss to slow down as I've started regular strength training in the hope of maintaining muscle mass.

glittermittens · 29/01/2025 18:16

Should say though that I've not actually vomited or had sulphur burps
