I’ve just had an email from my provider for my next pen. I’ve been on 5mg for about six months. They have said they will only prescribe 5mg 3 more times after this and then I have to go up to 7.5mg. My BMI is now 30.6 and I’m starting to get side effects as my weight has come down. I’m concerned going up to 7.5mg is going to be horrible. I know I can adjust the dose downwards by counting clicks, but was wondering if anyone had seen an increase in side effects as their weight has dropped.

Well done for the losses and starting to find a groove @SpottyBumPony. Checking back in after a long time lurking.

Starting weight 99kg, BMI 39.9
Current weight 79.5kg - 3 whole stone off!! Delighted.

I also started in September and have nearly exactly the same weight and loss as you - delighted as well.

That's strange as I read 5mg is once of the doses you can stay on..

20bloodypounds · 03/06/2025 12:29

@sylv165 wow! That must be an amazing feeling. How close are you to your target now?

@Orangesandlemons77 Are you still losing weight? If so it seems like that dose is still effective for you. I'm still on 5mg, and still losing slowly. Even on this low dose I usually have one day in 10 when I feel a bit nauseous, or have the runs, or something. All relatively minor but I'd not want to increase.

I am getting close to target though so I have a maintenance call booked for the end of the month. I plan to stay on 5mg for a while, although counting clicks and reducing the dose over a period (ditto with 2.5mg) until I feelI can maintain on my own without MJ.

EBoo80 · 03/06/2025 12:40

That’s annoying @Orangesandlemons77 - would you consider changing provider? If they are inflexible that is only going to be more annoying as you get lower in BMI.

it’s my (maybe probably finally) last jab today. I don’t have any more pens on order and am keen to try without for a while. Am a bit nervous, but my weight has just dropped to 10.13, which was my ‘don’t even dare say it out loud’ goal weight in my head. Eek.

That seems illogical, as you can maintain on 5 mg. I'd have a conversation with one or more alternative suppliers as I'm sure there is some flexibility on this.

Orangesandlemons77 · 03/06/2025 13:31

I'm on 10mg now, more gradual weight loss now, but still going..

sylv165 · 03/06/2025 13:52

Thanks @20bloodypounds! I’m very short so at 8st 13 I am only just at the top end of a healthy BMI. Ideally I’d like to get to 8st 7lbs to give me some leeway but it has been pretty slow progress over the past few months so if I don’t lose much more I’m ok with that

Bumblebeehum · 03/06/2025 13:59

Amazing @EBoo80 congratulations, let us know how you get on!

That’s concerning @Itisallgoingtobeokas I’ve been on 5 for many months and don’t want to move up. Which supplier are you with?

Oops, most of that post should have been for @Itisallgoingtobeok

Itisallgoingtobeok · 03/06/2025 14:15

@Bumblebeehum- I’m with Boots. They’ve been really good so far, but I don’t like the idea of moving up.

@20bloodypounds- still loosing slow and steady.

I think it’s time to look for another provider, perhaps one with a maintenance offering too.

Tipster100 · 08/06/2025 07:52

I am still here and still injecting. I moved up to 7.5mg a few months ago and since then I’ve wanted to eat everything in sight. I stayed on 7.5 and didn’t move up because I was maintaining and although my goal was to go another 5 pounds I didn’t have the headspace to concentrate enough as work was so busy so I’ve stuck at the same weight for months now. This week though I was late to inject and old habits crept in very fast and I’ve gone up 3 pounds or so. So I’m checking in here as I find reading everyone’s stories really helps me focus. I feel quite a lot of myself has been back to self sabotage which is really frustrating. It’s tricky because when I lose weight my face really hollows out and whilst it’s nice to have cheekbones etc, people comment a lot and tell me to stop losing weight when actually my stomach is still holding on to a lot. My goal was to get to 9.5 so that I could do one final blood test and then have half a stone to go up and down as needs be. Past 10 stone and I start to feel fat and then eat to help with that! Arrrgghh. How’s everyone else’s journies? Anyone started titrating down? How’s that going? Anyone stopping? Anyone else maintained for ages just feeling glad not to be going up too much?

20bloodypounds · 08/06/2025 12:53

I'm on 5mg, almost at target and will be spreading out my injections from the end of the month, then going down to 2.5mg. After that we'll see... I'm trying to be very conscious of my old habits creeping in (snacking between meals, buying something to eat when I'm putting petrol in the car, having a cake with coffee if I'm out etc) and I'm restricting such events to once a week.

InfoSecInTheCity · 09/06/2025 05:25

Weekly weigh in and 0.6 lb lost this week

Starting weight - 217.5 lbs - 15 st and 7.5 lbs - BMI 33.1
Current weight - 147.3 lbs - 10 st and 7.3 lbs - BMI 22.4
Total loss - 70.2 lbs
Goal weight - 141 lb
Left to Lose - 6.3 lb

EBoo80 · 09/06/2025 10:12

@InfoSecInTheCity well done - what is your goal BMI? You must already be very slim!

InfoSecInTheCity · 09/06/2025 11:08

@EBoo80 my goal weight is just what the TDEE calculator said would be my “ideal weight” I’m currently in size 12 / Medium clothing although did manage to squeeze a zip closed on a pair of size 10 jeans the other day. I’ve been obese since primary school so have no frame of reference for what a good weight looks like on me as an adult, still got a very flabby belly so just working to the numbers on the calculator and playing it by ear.

EBoo80 · 09/06/2025 12:00

Sounds sensible - sorry if that sounded at all accusatory! Absolutely agree that it has been a learning process and I now find myself lighter than any other time in adulthood and a bit bemused by it.

doodleschnoodle · 09/06/2025 12:16

@InfoSecInTheCity That’s brilliant! You have had a similar trajectory/journey to me. I started around the same BMI and am now 21.7 apparently with 76lbs lost. I always think when I see your updates that our weight loss voyage has been quite in sync. Well done, so close now.

I actually found that I’ve continued losing a bit past my goal since coming off MJ, my goal was 135 and I’m now 126. I think that’s because I’ve added more exercise but am struggling to increase intake as I have gallstones so have to be really careful around fat intake. So adding healthy calories is a bit tricky sometimes it feels like as some of the nut butter type stuff does tend to have a high fat content, and until I get my gallbladder out I’m very wary. I’ll see if it steadies as I don’t really want to go much lower, this is pretty perfect, but I think when gallbladder is out I will naturally gain a bit when I can relax my food intake.

I am still carrying stuff around my stomach but not sure if it’s loose skin or residual fat. My upper body is quite slim now, I have collarbones! Who knew.

InfoSecInTheCity · 09/06/2025 12:23

Not at all accusatory! It’s weird, I’ve realised how ‘off’ my perception of weight is through this whole journey, I’d always believed I was big bones/large framed and that I’d look like a walking skeleton if I ever reached the heady heights of a healthy BMI. I was very firmly fixed on the idea that for my body shape it just wasn’t a possibility.

Really not true at all, without the excess padding I have quite narrow hips and slim wrists, even have a thigh gap 😱which is WEIRD!!

My body shape is honestly nothing like I thought it was when I looked like a bulbous barrel on legs 😂

I’ve also seen that you have to be really very slim to be under a healthy BMI, the range of sizes from top end of that to bottom end is quite big, I was a 16 at the top of healthy, and am a 12 now in the middle so guessing I’d have to be a size 6 to be ‘underweight’.

InfoSecInTheCity · 09/06/2025 12:25

I love collarbones @doodleschnoodle find myself absent mindedly stroking them when I’m sitting or standing still, I must look like a right weirdo.

EBoo80 · 09/06/2025 16:13

Yes, I saw a photo of myself this wknd and realised I have a nice neck. I knew I had double chins before but thought my not lovely neck and shoulders was about posture. Turns out 3.5 stones extra weight does come off everywhere!

20bloodypounds · 09/06/2025 21:58

@InfoSecInTheCity I always had a 'slim frame'. I thought being plump softened it! Ha, it was just an excuse for being fat.

I lay flaton the bed yesterday and I actually have hip bones, at the front (not if I stand up), and if I really push my shoulders back, I can even see some rib definition under my collarbones. I mean I really have to push it to get to that, I'm not a walking skeleton, but it is nice to be aware of the framework that is supporting our bodies.

I made a mistake yesterday. I was going to something (outdoors, not at all dressy) where I wanted to feel really comfortable and unrestricted in my clothes so I chose a longish top, some 'jeggings' and a loose jumper. Someone took a photo and I look awful. Like a bag lady. The trousers are hanging off my pancake bum, and my loose jumper has sleeves over my hands. Lesson learnt. Wear the correct size for how I am now.

Bumblebeehum · 10/06/2025 16:06

Hi all just checking in with 0 loss this week (and actually 3lbs up - proper bloated and constipated 😳).

Have a good week!!

SybillaB · 10/06/2025 19:10

After losing only 1.75 lb in the last month I was going to go up to 12.5 but my current supplier (Medicine Marketplace) said it was out of stock so ordered another 10 pen. I keep meaning to drink more water so will try and see if that helps something shift.

Tipster100 · 10/06/2025 19:12

So nice to hear everyone’s updates. I also found my collarbones recently and was so shocked. Who knew!

My stomach is a bit of a mess with loose skin. I’m menopausal and I appear to have no elasticity left. What to do? Am also confused because I’m an ok weight but actually am pretty flabby around the waist. I have no idea what I’m supposed to look like having never been slim in my life.

Has anyone experienced being refused treatment now they are in a healthy BMI? I think this is why I’m self sabotaging! My provider said they’d stop prescribing soon and it’s scared me because I’m not quite ready to come off. I’m literally a different person now I can choose clothes I like - I’m wearing colours!
