Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

I've only told a very small circle about the medication:
DH: aware and very supportive.
GP: I informed them and gave them a copy of the letter the pharmacy provided.
A couple of close friends, who I know won't judge or offer unwanted opinions.

A slightly larger circle (family, a few friends, close colleagues) are aware that I'm trying to make lifestyle changes (healthier eating, smaller portions, more activity etc) and that I'm trying to lose some weight.

JunoRoma · 04/12/2024 13:00

@TrinityWaves that's a great start!

Thank you, I think this is the most I've lost in a week - ever!! (Even pregnancy morning sickness with total food aversion)
I think when I've tried and failed to lose weight before the first week has been about 5 lb. I've been yo-yo-ing the same 20 lb in morbid/class 3 obesity for nearly a decade and truly fed up with being fat.

TrinityWaves · 04/12/2024 12:51

I've only told DH, too. Just in case there was a medical reason.
(I know some pharmacies tell the GP/some don't but it might take a while for it to be on GP system and if there was an emergency the hospital wouldn't necessarily have access to the local surgery records immediately anyway.)

l had been thinking of using Manjaro after the swimming pool l use was closed as the hotel decided to provide accommodation for asylum seekers and in not going more weight was creeping on. l have put 8lbs a year on since l had my son who is 36. Every year l would think l will shift that but never did. My son, who just happens to be a gp suggested trying it as a friend of his, in a similar position to me , has and had a good result.. It must have taken courage as l don't like talking about it and can be spiky and abrasive. Not because l want to be but am so frustrated at getting nowhere and the "bleeding obvious " being suggested. i have been quite secretive but after seeing your post and reasoning l will tell DH. l am with Boots, not the cheapest but have a CQC rating and appear to be thorough. Questions l have had have been answered very quickly. Seem to offer a "pick and mix" of support. Just need some loss to encourage me.

Hi
l have just started and had my first injection on Tuesday so far so good.
Did you tell any friends or family you were going to use it?

Just the husband for now. But I don't have kids.

Slimwannabe · 04/12/2024 13:57

End of my first week, injected my second dose (W2D1) this morning and I've lost 8.4 lbs and down a BMI point!

SW 263.4 lb (BMI 43)
CW 255 (BMI 42)
GW 168 (BMI 27.x)

I haven't had total suppression, I can still easily eat and probably could overeat, it's just reduced it by a good chunk. Craving also reduced but not completely gone, I have a lot of habits like grabbing a biscuit at certain times of the day I just do automatically, I don't even think about it. So I'm having to ground myself and say, "no Trinity, you don't need that!" The jab is helping me not eat in the evenings, which therefore causes a big calorie reduction.

CONGRATS!

ChloeCannotCanCan · 04/12/2024 14:40

@BookishBabe How is your first day going? Did you jab?

@BookishBabe How is your first day going? Did you jab?

Hey, thanks for asking.
I have! Well, I made DH do it for me because I'm a bit squeamish, but I didn't feel it at all.
Thus far I feel exactly the same, still hungry but no side effects.
I wanted to start before Christmas because I know the 2.5mg dose isn't SUPPOSED to do much, so I figured I'd get it out the way so I can be more serious after Christmas.
But 3rd day of serious calorie control for me, no sneaking bits. I keep thinking I don't want to eat too much and poo myself 🤣

ChloeCannotCanCan · 04/12/2024 15:34

I found the 2.5mg worked for me almost instantly last week and this - my appetite has really reduced...

Why are you worried about pooing yourself? Is this a side-effect I don't know about? <eekkk!>

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 04/12/2024 15:58

How often do we have to up the dose? Or is it just when the appetite suppression lessens?

ChloeCannotCanCan · 04/12/2024 16:11

I think the norm is to go Up 2.5 each month - so my second call with my provider is to discuss prescription no2 which they assume will be 5mg Part of the discussion is how it's going and if the appetite suppression is working. There is the option to stay on a lower dose if it's working for you.

Bananaram · 04/12/2024 17:22

Hi, can I join please? My first pen just arrived today, planning on taking my first dose tonight and very nervous. I have about 5 stone to lose to be at my target and then probably a bit more after that

lovelyjably · 04/12/2024 17:25

Just got approved, delivery should be tomorrow based on tracking.
Does anyone know if I'm on a MJ provider which is only subscription based. Do I have to up the dose every month?

Hi, welcome! I was nervous too before my first jab but it was ok. Just read the instructions carefully and you'll be fine. I have just over 5 stone to lose too, it all feels a bit intimidating...

Thank you 😊 I will triple check the instructions, I'm nervous about doing it wrong and wasting it.

How long have you been on mounjaro? Working my way through the thread so I can take advantage of other people's experiencing. Feeling hopeful after spending the last 2 years trying and failing to lose weight and then getting bigger

ChloeCannotCanCan · 04/12/2024 18:29

I'm on W2 D3 so I haven't much experience here either. I lost 7lbs in that first week though, I've had no side effects and my appetite has really reduced and the urge to snack has pretty much gone.

lovelyjably · 04/12/2024 18:44

As someone who has hypothyroidism and a slower metabolism I suffer from intermittent constipation.

I read some where that constipation can be one of the side effects on MJ. Has anyone experienced this?

It's definitely worth a try, lots on here seem to use Boots too. You don't have to tell anyone but perhaps just your DH in case of emergency. Is there another swimming pool you could go to? Swimming is such great exercise.

We are following the same journey @lovelyjably - I got approved today too and have hypothyroidism (Hashimotos) and a slow metabolism and all the fun that those 2 mean!!

Hoping to get my meds Thursday!

Thank you @ChloeCannotCanCan for the info too

ChloeCannotCanCan · 04/12/2024 19:31

@EggyBurpsNotEggyBread If you don't mind me asking, has your medication been approved by a Dr and will they be monitoring you? It sounds tricky to be dealing with Hashimotos and any potential side effects from MJ. I have had mild constipation for the past week which I've kept on top of with gallons of water and dried apricots each night...

CrystalDeCanter · 04/12/2024 19:35

Just starting W2 Day 1. I'll take my second injection when I get home from walking the dogs. It's going to be hot here so am going out early (Aus).

I have just weighed myself and have lost just over 2kg this week. Am stoked!

@lovelyjably I don't share your health condition but my go to for a constipation avoider is a regular green smoothie with whizzed up kale/spinach apple ginger (which I love but accept is a bit divisive) then shove in any other fruit and veg that will fit in the blender/nutribullet. Often quite confronting' to drink - looks and tastes like pond water but fkn hell it sorts you out 😁

LouisaPesel · 04/12/2024 19:38

Just had my first jab. The bloody thing's been sitting in the fridge since Sunday winking at me everytime I opened the door!

lovelyjably · 04/12/2024 19:50

@EggyBurpsNotEggyBread yay! We're both using Voy too. Have you booked the introduction and chosen which coach you'd like the support of?
Will you be taking the jab tomorrow?

lovelyjably · 04/12/2024 20:00

@CrystalDeCanter
Thanks for sharing the green smoothie recipe.
It will definitely help me up my greens intake and if it sorts me out too that's fab!

Slimwannabe · 04/12/2024 20:37

No side effects here, apart from an oddly red face yesterday, but looking more normal today. No gastro issues at all.

Not had a hunger pang since taking my first jab, but don't feel full after a tiny portion as I've seen others on higher doses report.

I'm using Juniper, anyone else?
