Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

That's really helpful! I think it'll take me a little while to find my groove as I'm a really disordered eater and this time I'm trying to make nourishing food (and also focus on protein, as I don't usually eat a lot as a vegetarian). I think I've hit sbout 8 portions of fruit/veg but probably only around 70g of protein.

Does anyone use protein drinks/powders? I've tried some of the protein enriched things like the M&S yoghurts but find them inedible!

DiggityDawg · 02/12/2024 22:08

Day 2 here. It’s been very odd not craving food all day like I usually do. I even went food shopping and didn’t pick up any of the usual crap I would have, I just didn’t fancy it. I’m feeling hungry, but only very little - in more of a healthy way than usual I would say.

Side effects wise, I had some nausea and a headache yesterday but they’ve died down today. I do have a dry mouth but drinking plenty of water. A little bit of constipation but that could be due to eating less, not sure yet.

I’m not going to be calorie counting, just going to be making healthier choices and not snacking. I intend to increase my activity levels and exercise regularly. I used to enjoy running but I haven’t been able to due to knee pain from the extra weight I’m carrying, but I want to get back into it.

It’s very early days but I’m feeling positive.

OnTheMJ · 02/12/2024 22:21

Thanks very much @JunoRoma @Slimwannabe @50somethingHRTaddict Good to know your tummy cramp's gone now.

I've been feeling much better and haven't had any bad side effects since. Took some travel sickness meds and the nausea has subsided too so lucky days! Looking forward to bed but also anxious hoping I get to sleep through tonight with no incidents🤒

Lovely to see how everyone is getting on though. Welcome to the thread, those on Saxenda as well.

I'm planning to count calories and stick to around 1200 to 1500cals a day with lots of protein and veg. That's the plan anyway but we'll see if it goes accordingly. 😆

I haven't used the protein drinks yet but would like to get some im just incase I can't get food in some times. I really don't want to be caught out not eating at all. Any particular one people prefer and can recommend?

How many calories are you aiming for everyone? I don't want to go too low as over-restricting won't be sustainable long term, so I'm going for 1500-1800 a day. Didn't feel any hunger pangs today but drank a lot of water and ate regular meals, and haven't had any digestive issues.

I am using nutracheck with a daily allowance of 1400 calories and 115g of protein.
I am struggling to eat enough food as I am trying to avoid high carbs, which really don't agree with me anyway
I use NXT protein powder, it's gross 😝
I eat a lot eggs, homemade soup, chicken, fish, shed load of veg and a little potato, rice or bread

What's surprised me is that I haven't struggled to eat - I've read a lot about people struggling with minute portions, but I was able to eat just fine! Probably a combo of lowest dose plus minimal carbs plus being on the very large side!

I might try experimenting with some protein supplements but equally am trying not to be too worried about it as long as I'm making nutritious food choices.

Did a horrendously long day at work, which normally means that I wouldn't cook and end up eating crumpets at midnight, so already a tiny breakthrough for me!

I hear a lot about bonus doses - how do you know if you've got one? Being able to do a fifth week on 2.5 would be ideal for me. My first 5mg dose is due on the 29th, and we're off to my parents on the 30th, so really would rather not risk bad side effects! Delaying for a week would be fab.

Presumably you can use any medical alcohol wipes from a chemist for the needles too?

Sorry - am a bit of an overthinker!

DiggityDawg · 03/12/2024 07:09

@Slimwannabe Same here, would prefer to wait until after new years to go up to 5mg. Apparently you just need to buy some insulin needles and syringes in to draw out the remaining fluid inside - not sure if it’s the full 0.6ml though.

Has anyone else been feeling hot/cold. For the 2nd night in a row I haven’t been able to sleep due to feeling cold and have needed to put extra layers on. This isn’t like me, I usually don’t feel the cold and would prefer a cooler room. Weirdly, just before bed I was feeling a little on the hot side and was convinced I’d left the heating on.

Oh gosh, that sounds a little faffy, I was hoping it would just administer through the same pen!

I also run hot, but have been feeling cold since dosing, very unlike me!

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 03/12/2024 09:43

Hi All!
I signed up to Voy yesterday and sent in a picture off my passport and a full length picture - seemed odd, is that usual for other sites too?

Hopefully will get the pen on Friday and am starting Saturday!

Weight is 15stone and I am 5 ft 5 so really want to lose up to 3 stone. I will still be classed as overweight, but I start to look scraggy less than 12 stone

OnTheMJ · 03/12/2024 09:54

@EggyBurpsNotEggyBread Yes it's normal. Most providers ask for ID and full length pic. Some actually ask for real time video.

I'm beginning to feel bone cold. Anyone else? It's not the usual cold and nothing I wear or do seems to help. Drinking lots of black coffee to stay warm from the inside! Appetite suppression is high but I'm forcing myself to eat something just to keep up my nutrition.

OP posts:
ohmyohmy123 · 03/12/2024 10:04

I'm not noticing the cold but I'm menopausal so hot a lot of the time.

I'm not getting much suppression - I don't want to eat bread or cakes etc but I'm still hungry. I might start eating a bit more and see how that is - I'm looking forward to my second dose tomorrow.

ohmyohmy123 · 03/12/2024 16:48

Today I've had

Bran flakes with sultanas
2 crisp breads with cottage cheese
Jacket potato with cheese, beans and salad
Vegetable stir fry
For dinner I'm having cottage pie but with swede instead of mash. Hoping that will stave off the need to eat...

Slimwannabe · 03/12/2024 19:37

Anyone else have a bizarrely red face? I look sunburnt!

Welcome Eggy!

CrystalDeCanter · 03/12/2024 19:54

Hi all, interesting to hear of others possible side effects. I'm not feeling cold, but am in Australia and it's warm. Instead am menopausal and hot. I don't have a red face but am not sleeping well. I wake up a few times in the night needing the loo.

I had a consultation with my menopause specialist yesterday and he was v keen on these drugs. Apparently it's almost impossible for women in their 50s (me) to lose significant weight. So he was very happy to hear I had been prescribed it.

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 03/12/2024 21:51

Thank you @Slimwannabe !

My money has gone through, but I am still waiting approval, so hopefully it'll be sorted tomorrow. Does it usually take more than a day?

Mine took two days to be approved and was delivered the following day. Fingers crossed for you

Hi
l have just started and had my first injection on Tuesday so far so good.
Did you tell any friends or family you were going to use it?

lovelyjably · 04/12/2024 03:16

Hi all. I'm excited to join this thread. Just placed my first order of Mounjaro 2.5mg. Just waiting for approval. The goal is to get some weight off these poor joints of mine and slowly get my physical health back.
Ultimate goal is to lose 5 1/2 stone!!

Hashimoto's making losing weight almost impossible. I managed to lose just under 3 st with HIIT and diet just before the pandemic. I then gained it all back plus 2 st!
It's time to see the numbers on the scale go down instead of up.

Will keep everyone posted if I get approved and start my first dose.
Quite nervous actually so I'll be coming on here to read how everyone else is doing around the same time.

TrinityWaves · 04/12/2024 09:44

End of my first week, injected my second dose (W2D1) this morning and I've lost 8.4 lbs and down a BMI point!

SW 263.4 lb (BMI 43)
CW 255 (BMI 42)
GW 168 (BMI 27.x)

I haven't had total suppression, I can still easily eat and probably could overeat, it's just reduced it by a good chunk. Craving also reduced but not completely gone, I have a lot of habits like grabbing a biscuit at certain times of the day I just do automatically, I don't even think about it. So I'm having to ground myself and say, "no Trinity, you don't need that!" The jab is helping me not eat in the evenings, which therefore causes a big calorie reduction.

DH knows; DC don't know because they probably can't imagine me willingly doing the act of injecting myself and it's all they'll be going on about for months till they're used to it, after piling me with endless questions. 🤣 I'm just not in the mood for that!😅

I'm not necessarily hiding it from other people, just not volunteering the information but when asked, then I'll say yes.

First jab today at 9am!
I've been calorie controlling since Monday as I didn't want any fat or grease in my Digestive system.
I'm really hoping this is finally the thing that helps me have some willpower.
A LOT of weight to lose, already want to rush it, but I've been gaining a stone a year for 15 years, so I have to remind myself it won't come off overnight.

ChloeCannotCanCan · 04/12/2024 11:53

Hello, I'd like to join you too please as I started last Monday so I'm in W2D3!

SW 15st 13lb (BMI 38.3)
CW 15st 6lb (BMI 37.1)
GW 10st (BMI 24)

I lost 7lbs the first week with practically no side effects other than a purple bruise where I did the injection in my stomach. I've been amazed at how my appetite has decreased - I don't really think about food and am eating so much less.

Hi

I've told DP, as I think it's important someone knows and can watch out for symptoms and inform healthcare professionals should anything happen and they need to be told!

Other than that I haven't - other than a generic, I'm trying to eat health and lose a bit of weight comments. Not sure what I'll do if someone asks me directly - I suspect that may happen once I've lost more weight and it becomes obvious...

I've only told DH, too. Just in case there was a medical reason.
(I know some pharmacies tell the GP/some don't but it might take a while for it to be on GP system and if there was an emergency the hospital wouldn't necessarily have access to the local surgery records immediately anyway.)

JunoRoma · 04/12/2024 13:00

@TrinityWaves that's a great start!
