Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

@Slimwannabe aubergine larb sounds fantastic! Can you send the recipe?

I'm concerned about carrying the pen around Asia to be honest. But yes will try and speak to MedExpress.

It's from the East cookbook by Meera Sodha, which I cannot recommend enough - everything I've cooked from there has been immensely good and easy to tweak to make more healthy (reducing amount of oil, using light coconut milk etc). There's a coconut dahl recipe that I'm obsessed with, and a great bun cha that I add edamame and tofu to for protein.

Here is the recipe: www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2018/may/12/meera-sodha-recipe-aubergine-larb-sticky-rice-peanut-salad

@saj90 I can imagine taking the pen, needles etc internationally will be a massive pain!

Very hacked off with 5mg so far. Have gained 4.5lb in two days it seems. I know it's probably just water/fluctuations etc, but it is very annoying! At least everything else feels more normal today!

shrinkingthiswinter · 07/01/2025 09:29

@saj90 ive just come back from carrying my pen around South America. It was actually fine. I bought a little coolbag and some mini freezer blocks (100ml) so it could all go in my hand luggage. Had Dr letter. But wasn’t asked about it at any airport, just went straight through. I put it in a fridge in each accommodation and re-froze the blocks. I was quite paranoid about forgetting it somewhere but set alarms to remind me to get it before leaving. I’ve previously traveled with liquid steroids that need fridge so have got used to this nuisance.

At week 5 day 4 I've just exceeded 10% of total weight lost. I'm really pleased with that. 20.8lb lost in 33 days 😊

On a less bright note I had my first tummy upset yesterday. However I'm thinking it was eating left over ham that was a few days past its use by date rather than MJ.

I've stayed on the 2.5 as it seems to suit me, and took the bonus does this week, so will start my new pen on Thursday evening but still at 2.5

My DH isn't finding the 2.5 enough now as he's plato'd and will be moving to the 5 pen soon. It's interesting how it impacts us all.

I hope you're all doing ok

NotMeNoNo · 07/01/2025 10:34

I didn't start until mid December so have just done my first re-order. I felt I was going ok with appetite suppression, easily ignoring snacks and biscuits, and had a wobble reading about people struggling to eat enough on 5mg, so I ordered 2.5mg again.

But having lost 3 kg I've now stayed the same for a week, maybe my metabolism is fighting back.
It feels like every other diet where it seems fine for 2-3 weeks then just stalls.

I'm going to try and increase activity/exercise and see if that helps, the end of next month seems a long way away to go up a dose if that's needed. Guess I need to take the long view.

OnTheMJ · 07/01/2025 10:43

Morning all! How is everyone doing today? I've been getting better? I was able to have a little breakfast as I woke up starving and so far it has stayed down. Couldn't eat much still. Trying to stay ontop of my water intake.

Is anyone else burping a lot? Not the eggy burps... touch wood...but just constant burps?

OP posts:
OrangeDonald · 07/01/2025 11:15

Im finding certain foods are prone to make me burp more than others @OnTheMJ - the other day i ate some cucumber and that seemed to give me horrible burps tainted with an unpleasant hint of cucumber flavour. Most meals I'm fine, but then others will have me burping away (thankfully not eggy though)

BeeBee5 · 07/01/2025 11:23

I have been enjoying my first week on 5mg so far, I jabbed on Friday, haven't eaten much over the last few weeks but then this morning I had the return of major food noise and ate a load of bread and cheese 😳felt slightly like a binge but not quite as extreme. I'm a bit disappointed but hopefully suppression will kick back in again soon!!

BeeBee5 · 07/01/2025 11:32

*meant to say haven't eaten much over the last few days not weeks!!

I think having a day of eating slightly more and slightly more carbs can help a stall if you're genuinely eating in calorie deficit most of the time.

Basically to trick your metabolism into not preparing for famine. My body is well prepared to survive in famine and will run on not many calories. Sometime I have to give it nice things so it's reassured that there is food about 😊

Yes burps are pretty much my main side effect. Most days I have a burping phase, luckily mostly not eggy but not very ladylike 😊

OnTheMJ · 07/01/2025 12:32

@OrangeDonald Thats interesting. I've not noticed any pattern with food for mine but I'll look out for it now you mention it. Maybe I'll find a way to 'fix' these burps 😀

@BeeBee5 I find my food noise roaring from day 4/5 but I'm hoping 5mg will sort it out. Don't be disappointed - 1 or 2 binge won't ruin your progress. x

I agree, the dragon burps take me by surprise 😆

Thanks! I'm trying to ignore a huge box of biscuits and crisps in the office today but there is also some fruit.

JunoRoma · 07/01/2025 13:35

Day 6 of my first week on 3.75mg.

Suppression has been quite strong this week; I plan to stick with 3.75mg for the time being.

I log my weight weekly on a Thursday but weigh most days in between to get a sense of the trend, which this week is indicating I'm losing again after the graph had flattened slightly towards the end of last month.

No side effects of note apart from some heartburn which isn't new, I've had it on and off since the third week on 2.5mg.

(For those with unpleasant side effects: I hope they ease off soon for you.)

ohmyohmy123 · 07/01/2025 14:50

@JunoRoma I'm day 6 on 5mg - was tempted to do the 3.75 but decided to just go with it. Glad you feel good on it.

My weigh in is tomorrow but I've weighed today and 4lb down this week.

I'm struggling to eat too much but forcing myself - having lots of nuts and cheese to up the calories!
No real side effects at the minute - started with nausea but it's gone now.

tally9040 · 07/01/2025 16:03

So I’m a month in. I did 4 weeks on 2.5mg and I’m on my first week of 5mg. I didn’t have any side effects on 2.5mg but have definitely felt very tired on 5mg and also quite cold which isn’t like me. I have lost 2 stone. I can’t actually believe it as it does seem far too much in such a short space of time. I am F511 and was just 1st one and want to get back to 11st which was always my pre menopausal normal weight. Really don’t feel like much food at all but forcing myself to eat at least each evening. Feeling a bit bored but determined to keep going. We have booked a family holiday in Greece for 5th July so that’s my motivation now. Good luck everyone with your weight loss / healthy journeys.

I totally feel your pain @SlSlimwannabe, it is so very disheartening when the scales take a sudden, unexplained, jump.

Hopefully it's all gone by tomorrow but hard to deal with in the interim

Congratulations 👏

That's fantastic loss. We'll done

I will weigh tomorrow and will be happy to lose the lb I put on last week.

I'm back to work tomorrow, and I do need to get back into the habit of recording what i eat as I think I am under eating to ensure a loss...hardly a good long-term strategy. I would love a big whoosh to motivate me to be on track sensibly, which I know is somewhat of a contradiction

Slimwannabe · 07/01/2025 17:04

@NotMeNoNo that's always the worry I have, that this is like every other time, I lose a bit of weight and then it'll all go back on again and more. Trying to think positive and imagine how much weight I will have lost if I stick with it for another month - I know it'll be the same for you too, we just need to not let the scales have too much power! ❤️
