Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

I started on Wednesday night - I felt great at first but now I just want to eat! I'm trying to resist and have come back to bed Grin

mjjourney · 30/11/2024 13:45

Hi! MJ newbie here (name change from long MN'er!)

My pen just arrived! What days does everyone dose? I'm out tonight so don't want to do today - was thinking Sunday as don't want to wait a week - ideally would have chosen a Thursday so not sure if I can change days later on?

OnTheMJ · 30/11/2024 13:49

@mjjourney I'm doing tomorrow as well. You can change days, just take your dose a day earlier/later each week till you get to your preferred day.

@OnTheMJ ah that's good to know! Not sure whether to do morning or evening tomorrow?

I'll be doing morning once I wake up. I'm too impatient to wait a few more hours on that day, plus I'd like to be awake and feel whatever there is to feel (positives and side effects) just to see how it affect me and know what I might need.

Hi there my problem is the opposite. I am so used to clearing my plate I just keep going. Struggling to plan for 1400 calories and 115g of protein. I really need to work this out properly
I know I shouldn't check so soon but scales showing 1/2lb loss only 😢

OnTheMJ · 30/11/2024 17:27

@50somethingHRTaddict 1/2lb loss in 3 days is okay. By thr end of the week, you should get up to 1lb to 2lb (there may be a big whoosh coming) loss which is an average loss. Don't be sad. It's only just the beginning of your losses to come x

OP posts:
CrystalDeCanter · 30/11/2024 20:31

@50somethingHRTaddict like you I'm a big plate clearer.

What works for me is to (sorry if this is blindingly obvious) put less on my plate, I can always go back for more.

Eat more slowly and mindfully. And really let myself know that it's ok not to finish the food. Don't feel guilty about waste, don't worry that someone will think you didn't like it or ungrateful. Allow yourself to feel almost full, then stop.

You can always eat again if you really are hungry. But start with less.

TrinityWaves · 30/11/2024 21:15

I started Wednesday - so on W1D4 today.
I have a lot to lose.
My SW is 263.4 (BMI 43 ish)
So I'm going to record each Wed morning.
GW is 168 (12st) (which would still technically be 'BMI overweight' but obviously a huge difference and is my approx weight pre kids)

I'm less hungry and craving less but definitely not completely gone. I imagine being the size I am 2.5mg is a very low dose really.

OnTheMJ · 01/12/2024 11:09

Good morning all, how's everyone doing today?

I'm literally 'on the MJ' as of over and 2 hours ago (Yes I woke up early because I couldn't wait! 🤣). I'm okay although I was planning to have my coffee this morning with a leftover piece of my niece's birthday cake but since taking it, I just don't feel like having anything. It's never happened before! I don't want to believe that it's started to work on me this fast, it's probably a psychological effect. So far, nothing else I feel the same. The injecting was nerve wracking to begin with but once done, I realised it was nothing. I built it up so much in my head but it's a total piece of cake (took my actual cake away from me i suppose! 😅)

Well done @OnTheMJ
Things are fairly uneventful so far for me.
Less hunger, feeling full after a smaller portion.

I used to have bruxism / teeth clenching at night; after not being a problem for a few years it suddenly worsened after the first 2.5mg dose, causing temporomandibular joint pain. I've started having to wear a mouthguard at night again after several years of not needing one. This might not be related to the Mounjaro, but I'll watch to see if there's a pattern.

LouisaPesel · 01/12/2024 11:33

It's just arrived!

Gulp!

We have guests so I've bunged it in the fridge. That's right, isn’t it?

OnTheMJ · 01/12/2024 12:00

@LouisaPesel Ha! Ready, set, go! Cheering you on to go through with it. Yes put it in the fridge till you're ready to use it. Then you can either store it in the fridge or outside of the fridge in room temperature once used.

Thanks @JunoRoma How awful you've had to deal with bruxism and now this joint pain. 😞I really hope it goes back to normal and this is just temporary for you. I actually deal with bruxism too and have been wearing a mouthguard most times to sleep for over a year now. It's scary to think of it getting worse!

Pleased to know the suppression is working for for you though x

I’ll join the thread. My first pen arrived on Friday but I had a weekend of Xmas parties so popped it in the fridge.
I’m nervous to start as worrying about the side effects but will do it either today or tomorrow.
Does anyone have thoughts about the best time of day to start it? Wondering if I should just do it now. Eek!!

OnTheMJ · 01/12/2024 12:56

@DiggityDawg Just do it! If you have no reason to delay, I'd do it now. I don't think there's a universal best time because the side effects may or may not happen, and what does happen can differ from one person to the other. So you'd have to find your best time depending on how it affects you.

I've just taken my first dose this morning. No other reason for morning other than I wanted to do it once I wake up, then stay awake/alert for any possible side effects. So far no side effects.

First dose done. Feel nauseous and a headache almost instantly but it could just be in my head.

I’ve got 4 stone to lose, current BMI is 36. My target weight still puts me 1 stone over into the overweight category but is a weight I know I’ll be happy with and won’t look too thin on my frame.

dubmimi · 01/12/2024 15:53

I started Saxenda on thursday, but no active Saxenda threads so will join here please!
I can't believe how much it's curbed my appetite!
I've a bmi of 27.5, and 2 stone to loose.

haribosarebest · 01/12/2024 16:28

So pleased I've found this thread. Took my very first dose an hour ago. Have read so many people's stories and after thinking about it for so long have finally taken the plunge. Not sure how long before I'll feel any effects but happy just to go with it. I've just boiled some eggs for breakfast as I know it's so important to eat protein rich foods, but after that I guess I'll see what I feel like eating.
Wishing all fellow December starters a great weight loss journey x

LadyLolaRuben · 01/12/2024 17:06

Lurking to see how you all get on and perhaps join the journey in the new year.

LouisaPesel · 01/12/2024 18:44

Was hoping to start today but our guests are lingering.

Are people avoiding alcohol whilst on Mounjaro?

Sherrystrull · 01/12/2024 19:25

50somethingHRTaddict · 29/11/2024 21:01

Anyone else having to consciously remember to stop eating when full?
Mindlessly ate my dinner last night and realised I was continuing to eat even though I was full to the brim!
Also I have always been a good water drinker so worried I'll not get that delightful big initial loss, if that's how it works.

Yes. I'm struggling to adjust to new portion sizes. But trying to serve a smaller portion and think more if I'm full. Over eating makes me feel rubbish.

I'm out this evening at a pub. Having one G&T.
I'll update if anything untoward happens...

ohmyohmy123 · 01/12/2024 19:59

I had a bottle of red wine on Friday and had no adverse effects. I'm not wanting alcohol like I usually do though so I'm hoping to cut it out now.

I've lost 6lb so far on the scales but I'm really restricting my eating to kick start me - I'm used to fasting so I'm eating twice a day in a short window which means I don't overeat.

I haven't wanted any bread or cakes etc either - which is not like me!

For today's dinner I just had chicken and veg with a small amount of potato. No roasts or anything that I'd usually have.

SpellitwithaY · 01/12/2024 20:34

Hi everyone! I'm doing my first dose tomorrow. Going to make my lunch now as I'll not have time in the morning. Hoping I'll want what I take, or not lol

What is everyone doing diet wise? I've got a current slimming world membership so will continue with that. Are you guys doing anything particularly? It just cutting down, trying to eat healthier....

mjjourney · 01/12/2024 21:03

So I injected this morning! Feeling good so far and even had a family party today and didn't fancy any of the crisps/ cake etc and made healthy choices so fingers crossed that continues!
