Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

@EggyBurpsNotEggyBread If you don't mind me asking, has your medication been approved by a Dr and will they be monitoring you? It sounds tricky to be dealing with Hashimotos and any potential side effects from MJ. I have had mild constipation for the past week which I've kept on top of with gallons of water and dried apricots each night...

I will be honest, I have not gone through the doctors.

I have gone to my docs before about weight issues and tried to get weight loss meds, but been told no. I am pretty much left on my own with my health issues to just get on with it, bar the yearly blood test for my Levothyroxine.

I was honest with Voy about all my problems and meds, and didnt get any follow up questions about anything.

ChloeCannotCanCan · 04/12/2024 21:16

@EggyBurpsNotEggyBread I'm sorry you haven't had good medical support from your Dr. If you've been honest with Voy and they have approved you then I don't blame you for going for it!

lovelyjably · 04/12/2024 19:50

@EggyBurpsNotEggyBread yay! We're both using Voy too. Have you booked the introduction and chosen which coach you'd like the support of?
Will you be taking the jab tomorrow?

I haven't booked the intro yet, not sure whether to have it before I have the first injection - but none of them fit in with my work schedule this week.
What about you? I like the look of the nutrition expert - Lily I think?

I just ordered. Quite scared of doing the first injection. Have people had many side effects?

50somethingHRTaddict · 04/12/2024 23:01

Hi there. I managed to lose 7lbs in week one and also down to the 15's. (15st 9.4lbs)

Second jab today without issue.

Delighted on both counts. It would be wonderful to get to 14's by 2025

Welcome to all newbies and best of luck

ItsMeHey · 04/12/2024 23:15

So, day 5 and wasn’t too hungry early on; ate reasonably. However suddenly v hungry late tonight!. So maybe the appetite suppression hasn’t been all that strong for me. On the positive side I haven’t had any side-effects apart from some vivid dreams. Also though I have eaten quite a lot today overall for some reason, it’s been pretty healthy stuff. I am using December more as a way of getting my body used to it, without I hope too much in the way of side effects 🤞.

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 05/12/2024 00:32

Has anyone had any positive side effects like more energy? I read on one thread that it was possible, and am hoping!

lovelyjably · 05/12/2024 01:26

@EggyBurpsNotEggyBread
I've booked the intro for today but I haven't selected a coach yet. They all seem good and quite a lot of them to choose from.

Best of luck to everyone starting on this journey.

littlebirdieblu · 05/12/2024 05:54

Just placed my first order through MedExpress, says it could take 4 days to process as very busy, so I'm not expecting it to arrive until next week. I have 5 stone to lose. Feeling very nervous about long term side effects but I have osteoarthritis as well as high blood pressure and pre diabetes, so losing the weight will be a huge benefit.

NavigatingMyLife · 05/12/2024 07:06

Morning all. Great to read your stories & experiences. I’d love to join you on this journey. Got my prescription approved yesterday so hoping for a delivery today. I’m 52 & need to lose 2.5 - 3 stone.

Got a day off today & WFH tomorrow & quiet weekend, so great time to start.

Not sure whether to low carb on this too, which has generally been a good way of eating for me or just to calorie count. Thinking I’ll just aim for limiting carbs, but have plenty of veg as normal & high protein & hopefully just eat less. A lot of my weight gain is due to wine ! I really notice that if I don’t drink for a week the weight drops off but I seem to regain it quickly after a party weekend so it’s good to hear that MJ puts you off alcohol.

Good luck everyone

NavigatingMyLife · 05/12/2024 07:09

@littlebirdieblu I placed my order / uploaded photos on medexpress late Monday night, approved yesterday evening so 48 hours for approval & hoping for delivery today.

I absolutely HATE needles, but it is super-fine, and didn't hurt at all. You just have to be brave and get the first one out of the way.

I felt a bit odd immediately after, but took the dose at night and slept through it. Only side effects for me are some facial skin flushing (one day). I do eat a lot of fruit and veg and drink lots of water, which seems to have prevented and constipation for me so far (I think I'm a lucky one) and I eat regularly to avoid nausea or low blood sugar.

Welcome to everyone that's new!

How often does everyone plan to weigh themselves? I've been doing daily, which is both deflating and reassuring depending on which way the scales go! 😂

I'm going for calorie counting, but focusing on protein and limited carbs. I'm vegetarian, so high protein meals are trickier!

Wine is my go-to for coping with work stress, can't say I feel put-off of it yet unfortunately! Had wine on Tuesday hoping that I wouldn't be able to stomach it but it went down fine. Have you found that you've lost any interest in it?

Sorry, saw that you are yet to start! I hope that you do get the wine suppression too!

JunoRoma · 05/12/2024 07:52

@Slimwannabe I'm weighing daily, but logging it on an app that shows the trend (smoothens the graph).

@EggyBurpsNotEggyBread I have more energy and am sleeping better, but to be fair that might be from the significantly healthier diet and slightly increased activity levels as much as from the Mounjaro.

JunoRoma · 05/12/2024 07:52

I've lost 5kg in 3 weeks (including 1 week on 2.5mg) which I'm pleased about. I realise the losses will slow down now, but it's a good start and is helping to motivate me to keep going.

ChloeCannotCanCan · 05/12/2024 08:53

Welcome to all the new starters!

I'm on W2D4 and I've found that MJ has really decreased my alcohol intake. My terrible habit was sitting on the sofa from 10pm once the kids were in bed every night drinking wine and eating crisps till midnight. I was starting to worry about my alcohol intake and finding it hard to cut down. In the 10 or so days since I started I have had a single G&T on Friday night and then 2 glasses of wine on Saturday night in the pub and that's been it! I haven't wanted alcohol or crisps at night and I've been making a more concentrated effort to go to bed at a reasonable time so it's been mint tea and in bed for 10:45. I'm really hoping this continues....

Bananaram · 05/12/2024 08:57

Took my first jab last night, was a bit terrified of injecting myself but I didn't feel it at all, which was a relief 😊 felt a little off last night as well, felt very gassy and kept burping (lovely, eggy burps 🤢) but I feel fine today.

Was quite hungry for breakfast so had my usual yogurt with protein powder and granola. I've been following James Smith and using his work out app, focusing on eating a high protein diet so I'm going to still aim to eat as much protein as I can (didn't see any sustained weight loss because I lose weight so slowly and kept having a few days off here and there) but my nails and hair have never looked better!!

DiggityDawg · 05/12/2024 09:04

@EggyBurpsNotEggyBread I’ve noticed a bit of an increase in energy levels, nothing major but a definite shift. The biggest positive for me is that I’m not thinking about food constantly and less interested in sugary food - that’s a life changer for me.

@Slimwannabe I am going to be weighing weekly, on Sundays, the same day as I dose. I’ve got in my head that I really want to see a drop of 5 pounds this week, which I know is possible but also may not happen. Trying to tell myself that any loss is a bonus so I don’t feel too disappointed on Sunday.

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 05/12/2024 09:28

@JunoRoma @DiggityDawg

Thanks! Glad to hear you have had an energy increase and better sleep, I am really hoping for that. I started C25K too this week so am really pushing my luck!

ItsMeHey · 05/12/2024 09:34

Re. wine - I haven’t noticed any particular drop off but first week in it is very early days. I’m on day 6 now.

I’ll weigh myself once a week on a Monday. I’m a bit allergic to scales but did actually weigh myself at the beginning. Was shocked to see I had put on a stone in weight this year. I don’t even consider I eat that much or that unhealthy. Maybe it’s my age 65 and metabolism 🤷‍♀️ .

I’m not trying to lose weight fast. I don’t expect to lose anything the first few weeks even. I’m taking it slowly to try and avoid side effects and not upset my body too much. If I could lose 40 lbs by the end of the summer - about 1 lb a week - I’d be very happy.

i woke up this morning hungry - earlier than usual! 🤷‍♀️ My body craved eggs for some reason!

The only other difference I’ve noticed since starting is a couple of very vivid dreams.

Hope things are going well for everyone, and new starters too.

Hi everyone, has anyone had any problems ordering from MedExpress? My photo was rejected even though it ticked all their boxes....I resubmitted yesterday morning so guess that puts me back to square one of waiting. I'm so eager to get started so feeling very impatient.

I'm guessing they'd only reject you based on your photo if you're clearly underweight? I hold a lot muscle so don't look as fat as I am....my BMI is 34.4 though! I just hope they don't think I'm lying about my weight. I haven't actually weighed my self for months so it came as a shocker to me too 😅

I resent the photo without really thinking about it but I was wearing black leggings and a black tee - now I'm thinking I should have stripped off and let it all hang out 😅😅😅

tally9040 · 05/12/2024 12:38

Hi Everyone. I'm 58, on Evorel Patches and Utrogestan for HRT. After a knee replacement last year I've really piled the weight on. I'm F510 and 96kgs. I was always fit and sporty - hockey / rugby / running etc - but knee injuries spoiled that for me a few years ago. I haven't gone through the GP as I didn't think they would prescribe as they wouldn't consider my BMI of 30 to be bad enough. I ordered through UKMeds on line and have taken my first 2.5 injection this morning. I'm determined to get back to my 'old self' and hope to lose 4 stone to get back to 11 stone and a size 12 to 14 if possible.
No side effects to report as yet but it's only been a few hours :)
good luck to everyone else starting or continuing on this journey .....
