I will join. Currently 19 stone 8lbs BMI 42.5. NAFLD 65% on recent liver fibroscan.

On holiday til next Tuesday. Ordering injections to be delivered by November.

Any recommendations. Thinking Voy?

Possible referral for WL surgery but my neighbor regrets having it and is putting me off. Hoping the injections work.

Addicted to crisps and nuts. Will have to go cold turkey. Can feel my liver and gall bladder suffering (I think!).

lilijm · 24/10/2024 20:28

Hi,

I'm on week 4 my bmi is above 50, I do not what you mean as it's hard to find people with a lot of weight to loose! I have PCOS and just had a blood test show liver inflammation so this is probably at the right time to do. I think it's hard sometimes as I want instant results or me to notice the difference but know in logics slow and steady is better.

I'm calorie counting alongside as it's so much easier for me to understand what I'm eating that way. Always happy to chat or for support for each other on this journey

Lillipops · 24/10/2024 20:28

My bmi was 58.2 Blush 2 months in and I've lost 2 stone BMI currently 53.3

Hello
I'm with treated ,but I think they are more expensive than some .
They have been great with me ,I email them with all sorts of questions and they get back to me with answers really quickly.when my painkillers were mixing with my medication they really helpful and that's how I ended up on MJ.
I also went cold turkey on crisps,I started on mysimba, but it was cancelled out by my pain meds ,but I'd already packed the crisps in and was able to continue not eating them.
I definitely don't even think about crisps any more ,and if I told you how much of my diet was made up of crisps in the past you would not believe me

May I ask how many calories you are eating
Sorry I know we shouldn't compare ,I just ,well untill now ,like this thread , everyone seemed to be so much lower calories than me and I felt I was doing it all wrong

I'm also here to avoid WLS
I'm on tier 3 ,and I desperately don't want the operation
But if I'm this size when it's my turn ,I can't possibly say no .
I really really need this to work for me

@Cakesandcookiesnomore I actually think they've both been the same, consistently losing 3lb ish a week. I go swimming maybe 2-3 times a week and I've been using weight watchers to track my food & exercise. First time in my life I don't have any food noise. Very little side effects, nausea right at the beginning but not had any for a few weeks now. Good luck 🤞 I'm in this for the long haul x

Don’t worry too much about the exercise. Yes it helps but weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise.

I’ve lost 3.5 stone over 6.5 months at 1.75 lb per week on MJ. You just have to stick at it. I haven’t tracked calories at all . At times eating enough has been a battle as I have felt nauseated. Drink loads of water and try and eat higher protein and healthier snacks little and often. I’ve also done an intermittent fasting g pattern most days, missing breakfast and not eating after 7 pm .

You have done really well ,I'd be happy with that too

I usually swim every day and cycle every day .
I can't wait to get back to it

@Cakesandcookiesnomore I will look at treated. Thanks.

I am on tier 3 and WL surgery is an option but even my dietician isn’t too enthusiastic about referring me. My endocrinologist for my hashimotos also seems to encourage MJ over WL surgery. My GP is being great offering to check all my bloods more regularly if I start MJ privately because of my Hashimoto disorder I have them
dome annually but they’ve said I can have them done every 3 months to make sure my kidney and liver function are okay.

It is now or never for me. I have been obese since childhood. I just don’t know any other way. I have to try. I know it will be hard, for me.

Cakesandcookiesnomore · 24/10/2024 20:46

My plan is to get down to the weight I was when I was going to the gym every day ,and then come of the injections and do the rest myself, with a combination of swimming and gym.
I managed to keep my weight steady when I was doing a good amount of exercise..so I think a BMI of about 35 ,and I will hit the gym .
I just don't feel comfortable going with a BMI of 50 .
Well ,that's my current plan anyway...it might change as I go on

@Cakesandcookiesnomore Weighing myself,..if it's not good news ..can put me in a foul mood , utterly foul where I deliberately self sabotage and eat even more .
But a good result on the scale can feel like Christmas

Another way of looking at that is you are aware of how weighing impacts your emotions and what you then do. You have identified the self sabotage. That's a good thing, it gives you something to work on when you feel able. Even if you park it at the moment, you are making progress. Recognising our triggers is a big step towards dealing with them. Learning how to reframe negative was really helpful for me.

WeGoSlow · 24/10/2024 20:56

Hello,

Well done on starting. These weight loss medications are incredible.

My starting BMI was 51. 18 months on and my BMI is now 28. I have 2 more stone to lose to get to my goal weight.

lilijm · 24/10/2024 20:58

Most days between 1200 and 1500 calories, but hoping it will be easier as I'm increasing dose on next injection , some days I'm not very hungry others starving!

Yes absolutely,we all need to figure out what works or doesn't work , especially for when or if we decide to manage without the injections

My BMI was over 50 when I started. I've been using Mounjaro since mid-May and have lost 58lbs (just under 10 BMI points). Like most people who are that big, I think I was really in denial. My clothes were all quite old so stretched a bit and I was probably wearing them too tight as well, so I haven't officially dropped more than one dress size or so but it's starting to be more visually apparent since I've been at the 3 stone+ loss mark.

I'm being realistic about how much I can lose. My main target would give me a BMI around 35, with my stretch goal being around 30. If I'm still losing at that point, I might go further but I'd be incredibly happy with that.

Thanks that's really helpful
Maybe because I'm bigger than most ,I need more to loose weight.
I don't know if that's how it works

@Cakesandcookiesnomore
I was expecting to do great at first because I have a good amount to lose and I usually do well in the first week, but it just didn't happen this time. Whereas weight seemed to be falling off other people. I think some people are just more sensitive to it and lose a lot on 2.5mg, and I'm not and didn't. The official line is that 2.5mg is not supposed to be a therapeutic dose anyway, it's just to get you ready for 5mg, so hang in there, let your body get used to it and good things will happen, I'm sure.

WeGoSlow · 24/10/2024 21:07

It's been a good 18 months, I've really enjoyed the process.
