Amazing well done @Snozzlemaid

How long has that taken you?

Snozzlemaid · 17/11/2024 13:30

Thanks @PotatoBreadForTheWin
I started taking MJ at the end of May, so coming up for 6 months.

velvetseven · 17/11/2024 16:09

amazing loss @Bibulous !
End of week 3 here, I have lost 10lbs. The suppression is waning a bit, in week 1 I felt overfaced by a pot of yogurt, now I have more of an appetite but I don't feel remotely like bingeing or drinking. Amazing.
My worst side effect is fatigue, I feel better for having lost the weight for sure but sometimes I feel completely exhausted. I am eating about 1200 calories a day, which feels enough. Maybe I should rebalance my meals and have more at breakfast/lunch rather than reserve the largest amount for dinner, so that I have more calories when I am most active.
Have ordered a 5mg pen for next week!

Bibulous · 17/11/2024 16:20

@velvetseven thanks! I've got A LOT to lose but even so I think I'm losing a bit too fast at the moment (that's something I've never said in my entire life!) I've started keeping a log of what I'm eating to make sure it's balanced and I'm not accidentally starving myself.

TorturedParentsDepartment · 17/11/2024 16:28

Had a day of horrendous side effects after 2.5 jab number 3 - but weekly weigh day today and I'm through the 23st barrier - at 22st 12lb. I started at 24st 12lb (but some of that fell off naturally as post-holiday weight). Got my 5 pen on order but I'm about 50/50 if I move up or not since when I do get side effects they're bloody horrid.

I have a theory I suffer more with one jab site than the other but I'm not sure yet and it's just one of a couple of hunches I'm working through. It's been a crazy week at work with visits booked everywhere and inspectors being in, so my food and fluid intake's been more erratic than ideal as well.

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 17/11/2024 19:32

Can anyone recommend low calorie ways of getting more protein into your diet. I'm not a big meat eater, do eat eggs a couple of times a week, like Quorn and like tuna (but hate other types of fish).

How is protein powder used? Is it made into shakes? Is it calorie heavy?

I'm doing more exercise now and think I need to up my protein as I'm having very little on an average day

NearlyNewHip · 17/11/2024 19:50

I have found the perfect (well I think so) heavy snack or light dinner when you cannot be arsed!!!!
Someone, I forgot who, recommended Longley Farm full fat cottage cheese, it's delicious. I eat it with a bag of novo protein pops. They are shaped like little dishes, so perfect for scooping out the cheese. Calories not too bad, the crisp things are 184 and the whole tub of cottage cheese 260.

Oh sorry, I can't stand cottage cheese or cheese

SilenceInside · 17/11/2024 20:03

@Midlifecrisisxamillion if you like yogurt, then the Arla protein yogurts are good. I like the strawberry ones, they have 20g of protein in a pot for 144cals.

That sounds perfect. Can you get them in most supermarkets?

SilenceInside · 17/11/2024 20:11

Yes, I get them from Sainsburys but have seen them in Tesco and I'm sure they'll be in all the major shops. There are other flavours too, raspberry and blueberry I think . They're very thick and filling.

The Longley Farm recommendation was me. It is so good! I haven’t seen protein pops but they sound right up my street. Where do you buy them?

Asda, they come in a few flavours. The salt and pepper ones or bbq go well with the cheese x And you have created a monster..... staple in my diet now lolol

Had my first bonus dose fail today! My 7.5mg has even more than that left for the bonus dose as I took 6.25mg for the first dose and the plunger bit broke as I twisted! Luckily still had a new pen.
I think I will get needles to draw it out for next time!

alltablenochairs · 17/11/2024 21:12

Slowly going up to 7.5mg from 5mg. I went straight from 2.5mg to 5mg and it won't be something I want to try again in a hurry.

However I'm finding with the increased dosage, I'm absolutely freezing. Seriously. It's 22 degrees in my house at the moment (I live in Scotland, it's-2 outside) and I'm here on the sofa with 3 blankets, pyjamas, thick woolly socks, DH's fleece and it isn't enough. I do have ME which screws with my internal thermostat at the best of times but this is different. DH calls it 'chilled to the marrow'. Has anyone else noticed this?

SilenceInside · 17/11/2024 21:18

@alltablenochairs yep, I've been cold all the time too. Blankets aren't enough, I need hot water bottles to warm up and then blankets etc to stay warm.

I did see a post somewhere, can't remember which thread, where someone was describing how Mounjaro can sometimes interfere with the body's temperature control system, the vagus nerve I think?

Darlinghag · 17/11/2024 21:19

@alltablenochairs yes i do - particularly 2-3 days post jab!!

SqueakyDinosaur · 17/11/2024 21:35

Oh, Longley Farm is the only cottage cheese worth buying. I go to Sainsburys for most stuff, but Morrisons for LFCC and sometimes fish.

alltablenochairs · 17/11/2024 21:45

Should have mentioned I also have ME so my internal thermostat has pretty much had it. In the summer I overheat very, very quickly (why are wheelchairs always black??) and in the winter I freeze equally as quickly.
Absolutely agree with everyone else who has said Longley Farm cottage cheese is the only one worth buying. More to the point the pineapple flavoured one. Ideally served on oatcakes but eating it straight from the pot with a spoon is also equally as acceptable.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 17/11/2024 21:47

Morrisons substituted my full fat Longley Farm for low fat the last time I placed an order and I didn’t notice until I got home. I was gutted. I’ve managed to use them up with other ingredients but they are really not the same at all. Full fat all the way!

I fell off this thread, been catching up and I also have the feeling cold thing.

I just wanted to report that 36 weeks in and I have lost 40kg, I'm now merely obese, and another 10kg will see me with a BMI in the healthy range. It's felt like I've had masses and masses to lose for the longest time but finally I'm at the point where I think "oh I'm actually nearly there". Hang on in there everyone earlier on in the journey, you will make it!

alltablenochairs · 18/11/2024 10:27

End of pen #2 today.
In 8 weeks I have lost 9.2kg and have gone from a BMI of 45 to a BMI of 41.8.
If my maths is correct that's a loss of just under 7%. I have 10.8kg until my first goal of 113kg.

If the figures are hurting your brain, then basically I'm going in the right direction. Slowly but as I don't exercise that's not exactly unexpected. Some of the side effects have annoyed me and yes, I'm still cold even with a wool duvet, 3 blankets, t shirt, leggings and fluffy socks today. On 5mg, I found that it was wearing off around day 5 but when I increased the dose to 6.25 the suppression has lasted just long enough. Now on 7.5mg so hopefully that'll be it for a while as it starts to get really pricey now.

Thanks to everyone who said they get cold as well. Sending lots of warm blanket thoughts your way.

this happened to me with my first pen - I've been using insulin needles ever since, with success.

RobinEllacotStrike · 18/11/2024 11:01

I haven't been feeling the cold as such - but I'm in the sea getting very cold on a regular basis - this will be my 5th winter. One of the benefits of getting borderline hypothermic cold regulalry is my self regulating temperature mechanisim is in top working order.

Having said that I am feeling the cold more in the sea as my bioprene layer (aka body fat) reduces.

At the moment I am loving hot yoga - so this plays around with my temperature even more. My new morning routine is an early hot yoga class, followed by a cold sea swim where I get pretty cold, and then a sauna to warm up.

Considering I am NOT a morning person, and I am doing all of the above before work, I am feeling like an absolute queen before I've started work.

SHOCK HORROR - saggy skin alert. I was in down dog sweating away this morning when I looked at my arms - oh dear - saggy wrinkly skin!!! My legs, bum, tum are so far ok but I didn't recognise my arms at all.

I must start moisturising more. I've been a bit slack with my flax seed oil and collagan supplements - the saggy arms will enourage me to take my supplments more regularly.
