Hi,
I've taken the plunge and ordered Mounjaro through MedExpress. My prescription was accepted today and as long as it arrives in time I plan to start on Thursday (my birthday is on Wednesday 😂😂). I thought I would start a thread for any new starters if anyone is interested 😊

Please may I join you?

I've done my first jab at lunch time today and about to weigh myself and record it. I'm not quite brave enough to post it yet I don't think but I'm really enjoying all of your words of wisdom and encouragement to each other.

sushinelove · 11/10/2024 17:42

Can I join too?
Just taken 1st jag and seriously hoping for a reduction in food noise and appetite. All these posts have been so helpful in making the decision to try this.

Gr3atEscape · 11/10/2024 18:10

I'm another starter today! Took it about lunchtime and not feeling anything apart from a very slight headache, didn't have a good night sleep though so could be down to that. So hard not to over analyse your body after injecting. Trying to put it to the back of my mind now and just carry on with things.

Evenstar · 11/10/2024 18:51

My tummy felt a bit itchy and tingly afterwards, but that’s all so far

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 11/10/2024 18:57

I still don't feel great. Headache, freezing cold and no energy. End of day 2.

mumto2teenagers · 11/10/2024 19:06

Had 1st dose on Tuesday evening just before I went to bed so day 3 for me today.

The injection was easier than expected, the area itched a little about 30 mins after and I do have a small bruise. No real side effects, have been sleeping well but still feel a bit tired, I have also felt really cold which is unusual for me.

The food suppression kicked in on day one and I haven't felt too hungry at all. I've been sticking to 3 meals a day and not been snacking, but I've been eating breakfast and lunch later than normal. I've been eating between 1200 and 1500 calories each day, I have a lot of weight to lose and that is a reduction of around 1000 calories a day. I am going out for a chinese tomorrow evening with my Mum and Sister, I've told them so they know I won't be eating a big portion, I'm not too concerned about it because expect to feel full quite quickly.

This doesn't sound fun at all. Hope it improves soon for you. I have to say my biggest fear of the potential symptoms is fatigue or disrupted sleep as I have 2 young kids and sleep isn't great in our house at the best of times.

I am week 2 day 2 (injected Wednesday night). I am completely off my morning coffee. Can’t normally do anything until I’ve had it. This morning I was up after a fabulous sleep (almost 10 hours!) straight onto laundry, my sons school admin and cleaning the kitchen without even thinking about coffee. I will have it as I need it to poo 😂😂😂

😂

I put mine in a drawer after my first jab.

I have bought some magnesium supplements as it’s supposed to help with sleep and hormone regulation, I have also bought some gut health supplements and biontin supplements and I already take a multivitamin and iron supplement.

I am hopeful that they will lessen any potential side effects.

mumto2teenagers · 11/10/2024 20:11

Has anyone told friends and family they are on Mounjaro and how did they react?

DH and my DD's knew when I ordered it, I told my parents and my sister today, they have all been supported but I knew they would be. Not sure whether to tell anyone else or just keep it to myself.

I have two close friends I am due to see in November for dinner and drinks, I feel like I should tell them, especially as I think it will be the first time I will be drinking alcohol. Work colleagues knew I was previously on slimming world but don't plan on telling them, if anyone asks I will just say I'm counting calories.

I told DH. He is worried about it - he thinks it sounds scary. My sister knows too as she is the person who initially brought it to my attention.

I won't be telling any other friends or family. I am at my mum's everyday but it's something she would make me feel worse about I imagine so I just don't want it to be information she has.

What is the biotin for?
You mentioned the magnesium helps with hormone regulation - what does that mean? Like does MJ disregulate hormones?

Sorry for so many questions. I so far have collagen supplements on my list as I am nervous about loose skin.

Biotin is often recommended for strengthening hair and nails, and it's found in many cosmetic products for hair and skin. Like all B vitamins, it is a water soluble, meaning the body does not store it.

I take it for hair and nails.

I have only told DH, I wouldn’t tell your friends unless you really want to for some reason.

The biotin is for hair and nail health, as some people have hair loss when they are in calorie deficit.

I have seen a lot of people say that disturbed sleeping patterns are a side effect of MJ, and magnesium is supposed to help the production of hormones that regulate sleep, in fact it helps with the production of all hormones in the body. It can also help with bone and teeth health and the maintenance of muscle mass.

Its found in a range of foods like green leafy vegetables but also nuts and cheese (which are things I generally don’t eat while watching my calorie intake)

I have seen lots a positive posts about using magnesium as a supplement generally but particularly when taking MJ.

I have also bought one of those led face masks to try and reduce wrinkles on my face as I hope to loose some of the fats from my face, and use moisturiser on my thighs and upper arms at night.

I too worry about excess skin, but on the balance of loosing weight and having a healthy BMI it’s something that hasn’t put me off taking MJ, it often happens to a certain degree of loosing weight using any means or after pregnancy. My tummy already has an apron from two C- Sections which is easy to hide in a swimming costume if it has some added secret support.

I hope that’s helpful, and good luck on your weight loss

TheAmazingShrinkingWoman · 11/10/2024 21:39

Injection number 2 done - felt weirdly nervous again!

Realised earlier I haven't taken any painkillers for a week. Often need ibuprofen for joint pain or paracetamol for headache. Haven't needed anything.

Only my DH knows. He knows I’ve been lurking on this board for months and constantly moaning about how long it’s taking to lose a kg with exercising alone so he was happy I got it as it’s kind of given me the boost

I've told DP and he is actually planning on starting in a few weeks too.

So far that is all, I want to tell my mum as after previous discussions about weight loss jabs I know she would be supportive as she also struggles with her weight but my sister is a pharmacist who completely disagrees with online / non-face to face prescribing (and we don't have a good relationship) and I can't trust my my mum not to tell her really! It's a shame but it's not worth the hassle of the sister knowing.

I am also going to tell my best friend next time I see her as again from a random conversation a while ago I know she will be supportive and nothing but happy for me.

Neither have I and I don’t intend to. Managed to redirect my delivery to the post office and hopefully will be able to continue doing this going forward.

So hard not to over analyse your body after injecting. Trying to put it to the back of my mind now and just carry on with things.

That’s the best idea, I was totally overthinking everything and had a few slightly crazed sleepless nights ! All will be well 👍
