Mounjaro - Late September Starters

ShiftAMountain · 19/09/2024 14:27

I see so many threads for people who all started about the same time as each other and think it must be good to have people at similar stages that you can share stories with and go through it all together.

There is a Sept thread but those guys have all started already.

Anyone due to start in the second half of Sept that would be interested in a thread?

I am just waiting delivery of my first pen today but don't plan to inject until Sunday evening. I WFH so cannot work out if having the 'worst' of any side effects ruining the weekend is better/worse than having to work through them on Mon/Tue. However, I have a couple of weekend social things coming up and decided it might be easier to do them when my previous injection is starting to wear off a bit - so Sunday nights it is!

Hi all, I've had my pen in the fridge since Wednesday and planning on taking the first dose tonight after my dd has gone to bed. Excited and nervous!
I've struggled with my weight all my adult life so can't imagine what it would be like to not have constant thoughts about food going round my head. I'm currently 13st11 and would be really happy just to get under 12st.

Mumoftwo36 · 20/09/2024 19:48

Those who have started, how are you feeling?

Darkflames · 20/09/2024 20:04

@Mumoftwo36 generally ok. I took it at night and felt a bit dizzy when turning my head that night. A little bit of nausea first 3 days or so but not awful.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 20/09/2024 20:06

I’ve just ordered from medexpress. Will I get a sharps bin?

JustWalkingTheDogs · 20/09/2024 20:25

Can I join? I've just done my first injection. It didn't hurt at all, in fact I barely felt a thing. I've been off colour for a few weeks so I've had it in the fridge for 3 weeks. The longer it was in there the more anxious I was getting. I find watching the TikTok's and Facebook posts help me to feel a bit less anxious.

Taken it today so if I do get side effects I've got the weekend to deal with them.

FelicityBeedle · 20/09/2024 20:30

@ChittyChittyBoomBoom
Yeah you get a little sharps bin

MargaretElsie · 20/09/2024 21:12

my DH has no idea. We met for a drink and I’ve been sooooo inclined to drink slowly, it’s great! I’ve only eaten two eggs and a piece of today today, so far, too. Hence, I’m going to order some multivitamins right now…

Orangesandlemons77 · 21/09/2024 04:30

Voy gives the option of telling the GP or not.

MonkeyPuddle · 21/09/2024 08:10

Hello all,
I took my first dose of MJ on Wednesday just gone, no issues with injections as handily I have a large numb patch from my c-section!
So far, no noticeable effects but am getting a little nausea every now and again.

anyway, I’m 5’ 10 and 23:13. Bloody hell.

Cocoaone · 21/09/2024 08:16

Medexpress says mine is dispatched, but the Royal Mail tracking says 'we're expecting it' and it's been sent via 1pm guaranteed delivery. Hopefully that means it will come today and their tracking isn't updated....

ShiftAMountain · 21/09/2024 08:59

So I am just over 12 hours from my first jab and Shotsy tells me about 1.75mg of the 2.5mg should be 'in my system' by now.

I really can't say how I feel - which is odd in itself. I had quite a light supper last night (for me) and when I woke this morning I had hunger aches BUT they didn't have any emotional or biological urges with them. I lay there testing myself thinking about warm, buttery croissants or eggs on toast or anything tempting and had quite a blah reaction to the thought. Not desire for it and not revulsion either.

Longish walk with the dog this morning and I am back home drinking my morning coffee. I think it tastes a bit weird but I don't know if that's all in my mind or not. Part of me is tempted to eat something to see how I react to it - but I think I'll wait a bit yet and try a bit of lunch later.

No side effects yet.

I did have another mini wobble in bed last night when suddenly I felt a bit daunted by the thought that there might be months/years ahead of me on this jab, if you really do have to stay on it to keep the weight off. But I have given myself a gentle little slap this morning and am just so grateful for the hope it has given me.

Bellyblueboy · 21/09/2024 10:03

I hope my jab will arrive today!

I had a wobble too last night. But then I went in to my banking app and added up how much I spent last month on coffee, lunches while In work and snacks and it’s a lot more than Mounjaro! Which is depressing in itself!

my Starbucks habit will cover more than half the cost.

i then had a panic about having to tell any medical or dental person I come into contact with. But I just need to get over myself! They won’t care

Cocoaone · 21/09/2024 10:54

I have wobbles about having to stay on it forever too. Maybe they'll come up with something cheaper and easier eventually. But I 100% think some people have broken hunger hormone responses, which is why it's so hard to control. Maybe being a lower weight and eating better will reset it, I hope so!

I am not telling anyone I'm taking it, even DH. Not at first anyway. I think he would worry about side effects which will make me worry more. And he's one of those annoying people who can cut out snacks for 2 weeks and lose a stone, and he can't understand my lack of willpower. But he is a smoker, and I gave up over 15 years ago and haven't touched another since ... so I know willpower isn't the whole issue.

JustWalkingTheDogs · 21/09/2024 11:19

First jab last night about 8pm, I had a good nights sleep and feel ok this morning.

I've had a smoothie this morning with a banana, yogurt and bit of milk and protein powder in it.

I do keep thinking about food but more in a 'am I thinking about food' kind of way. It's a bit like when someone tells you not to think about a pink elephant, and it makes you think about a pink elephant. It'll be interesting to see how I feel about food at tea time as this is my danger zone regarding food, especially on a weekend

MargaretElsie · 21/09/2024 12:08

I am nibbling on kiwi fruit. I feel quite smug! I'd usually more likely be a bacon and egg sandwich down by now due to being hungover from the night before.

Massivemonstera · 21/09/2024 12:24

Could I join please? First jab last night and didn't feel the need to eat until just now....usually I'm ravenous each morning. I am nervous about nausea due to past experience of hyperemesis when pregnant but so far so good.

Massivemonstera · 21/09/2024 12:26

@hopeishere Numan allow you to bypass gp and do not ask for photos

Obeseandashamed · 21/09/2024 12:30

I am starting on Tuesday so will join if that's ok? I previously did wegovy but it didn't work for me. I have my pen waiting for me at home when I get back from my holiday 😅

Bunny2607 · 21/09/2024 12:58

Hi everyone 👋

Can i join please. I’ve taken my first dose this morning about 11.30. No side effects yet 😳
not sure if it’s psychological as can’t see it taking effect this quickly but i’ve had some chicken and half a sandwich and don’t want the other half.
start weight this morning is 27st 5.6lb so my first mini goal is to get into the next stone bracket. Would like 3 stone off for christmas but just gunna focus on smaller goals to start with as i’ve got a lot to lose.
how is everyone getting on?

Marble02031 · 21/09/2024 13:01

Afternoon all, I'd like to join.

I have sat on the fence for weeks. But I am in a cycle of starting a diet every Monday and failing by Thursday. I have managed to lose 2 stone over the last 2 years by upping my activity massively. But you can't outrun a bad diet.

For me I think about food all the time. I eat then want something else even though I am not really hungry. It consumes my life and my family don't get it because they're all a normal weight.

I am currently 39, 5ft6.5 and 16.2

My major concern is side effects and also I am pretty active I am hoping it doesn't stop me from being able to carry on being active.

I have had a few sleepless nights worrying about starting but today I am going to do it. I'm hoping the support of others helps!

Baconking · 21/09/2024 13:17

Hi everyone, welcome new posters,

I am 24 hours in from 1st injection, so far so good. Went to a friend's for dinner last night and didn't poo myself or anything! 🤣

A bit gassy this morning, not sure if I was hungry really but I ate as I'm worried not eating will cause bad side effects, had natural yogurt with a little granola and berries at about 8am and just now had 2 hard boiled eggs for lunch and feel stuffed! The water is probably filling me up too, as up to just over a litre.
Feeling a bit burpy again

ShiftAMountain · 21/09/2024 13:29

Yes, hello all new joiners!

It's definitely having an affect on me. For lunch I had about 1/2 of what I would normally have and whilst I enjoyed the taste, I was just eating it for the sake of eating something. I got to the last 1/4 and just gave it to the dog. It was like it had no real value to me and I was starting to get bored of it, if you know what I mean.

What made me chuckle last night is that I knew I'd had an injection (in my thigh) and without thinking I kept rubbing the top of my arm as if it was sore - like you do when you've had a vaccine etc. I could even swear it was a bit sore there. 😂I'm such a twat.

@Marble02031 i am marathon training ( well ran my first 2 weeks ago and got to keep it up as running london next year) .
I am on week 2 of 2.5 mg, barely eating anything and happily ran 15 km on thursday didn't feel light headed or weak or anything
have walked the pups very day since starting and today had a sea swim ..all good.
I am a bit puzzled by the amounts some people are eating on the other thread 'what i ate today on mj' as if i ate what they are i would be gaining weight +++
but i am in my 50's, menopausal and need very few calories.
I am also taking the tack of eating when i am hungry enough to want to not because i think i ought to.
It is about retraining our minds and bodies to the need to eat only for hunger not for any other reason.
I lost 4.5 stone 12 yrs ago with this kind of mindful eating - it was easy - i don't have a big amount to lose now but was just stuck with menopausal weight gain and creeping stress eating coming back.
So you should be fine with your activity and do not feel you 'have' to eat protein or drink protein shakes etc..i do none of this and seem to be just fine
oh and i have now lost 11 lbs ....

That's great to hear, and your weight loss is excellent! I love being active so wouldn't want to slow down.

I want to retrain myself as you said to only eat when I need to and when I am hungry. I have planned high protein healthy meals. I have tried everything over the last 7 years I have a terrible relationship with food and eating. I want to reset my mind and hopefully this will help.

Zanne7594 · 21/09/2024 13:52

Hi everyone, I have had my first dose this morning and ate my normal bowl of cereal.
I know its too early to feel anything yet, but I cant seem to concentrate on anything but how my body feels, am I feeling nauseous or is my headaching more than normal? Its as if I'm just waiting for any side effects. How silly am I? Need to give myself a good talking to. 🙄
