Hi Everyone, I am an August starter too - i just took my first 5mg pen last night. My suppression hasn’t kicked in yet though, last week I did 3.75mg to bridge between the dose jump and found it didnt kick in til the 72 hour mark!

i do however, have a horrifically gurgly tummy - not due to hunger as I’ve eaten today. Grateful to be a home so noone can hear it!!

i am not a fast loser, as I was already on a deficit (on and off) for a long time, so didn’t gave so much water weight, i think and i eat at a 500-700 cal deficit - depending on hunger. But i’m ok with it. I think i’m at around 7lbs off since starting MJ, and a total of 2st 2 since starting to lose weight way back in 2022.

congrats to everyone so far!

@MelainesLaugh i have post gallbladder removal disgestion issues (severe enough to limit my life considerably!) and its been an absolute godsend! I have only had two or three days with minor issues - nothing like before, and the rest have been like normal people going to the toilet! I havent taken lopermide in four weeks!

i almost cried last thursday because i went away for the day with work - normally that means not eating at all until i get home, i ate and was fine!!!

i would stick with MJ solely for that benefit!

Well done everyone for the weight losses this morning!

My achievement this morning was literally clearing the blockage! I'm sorry it's TMI, but its truly a NSV that's given me great relief!!

Apologies!

🙈

MabelSpan · 16/09/2024 13:24

@Princessandthepie Congratulations on your loss!😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2024 13:26

Well done on the poo @Princessandthepie 😂

lookathatbookcase · 16/09/2024 13:27

Urgh - horrible night's sleep and feeling rough today. Was feeling a bit ropey yesterday after a 3.75mg jab on Saturday, then made soup (soup!!!) last night and ate too much, too late, and was fcking suffering for it all night. (Soup!!!). Lesson learned, again.

Princessandthepie · 16/09/2024 13:28

Thank you 🤣

Sorry but I don't think DH is willing to share this part of my journey and I don't have to look you lot in the eye! 🤣🤣

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2024 13:29

I've been reading other mn threads. Various ones on aibu as well as actual mj board

Was a lady who eats the same meal every day twice a day - chickens s green salad and 2 x hard boiled eggs for protein

Another who literally didn't eat and not even 800 calories a day

I get all are diff and I def don't want to name and shake them - but surely eating the same meal all the time or eating such little calories can't be food for the body or health

Princessandthepie · 16/09/2024 13:35

I eat very similar meals every day.

Breakfast is bran flakes or weetabix or yoghurt, berry and seeds.

Dinner is chicken salad or veg.

But to be honest, keeping to very similar meals also helps to take the hassle out of meal planning.

You are right, its really not good for them to eat or not eat in those ways at all.
When we are trying to lose weight, through reducing calories or just not feeling hungry, it is so important to eat as wide a variety of foods as possible and as nutrient dense as possible.
If we dont our health will suffer, yes we will be lighter, but we wont be healthier and that will start to show further down the line.

Wingingit11 · 16/09/2024 13:54

@Princessandthepie I end up eating the same thing in a pattern too. My kids won’t eat the same as me so in the new age of not eating much it’s the cost efficient thing to do!

@Willowy1982 congratulations you're amazing!
Everyone is doing great. 🥳

I'm shattered today, I don't think it's MJ, the pest was home for his days off and he had this annoying, intermittent cough that kept jolting me awake! Add the farts into that and I was glad to see the back of his van 20 mins ago, away for 10 days again.
I fancy a wee nap but I've too much to do.
The fab thing is, normally I'd be munching on junk when I'm tired and I've just had a wee boiled egg and I'm happy.
I'm not normally constipated but it's maybe the eggs, I've had them everyday. What's a mild laxative, I don't want an arse drama in the morning 😂 x

My progress has definitely slowed down, I think I will maintain this week. Overall I have lost 8kg since I started and have around 15kg to go…so I’m trying to look at it from the positive side; I have already completed a third of my progress which is good. I’m trying not to dwell on the plateau as this is a stubborn weight for me. I’ve been able to get down to this weight before, but in recent months ended up gaining. The fact I’m able to maintain this weight is good because it shows my eating habits have adjusted

I could have written your post! I have lost 8.2kg since I started, I have 14kg left to lose and have been hovering around the same weight for 2 weeks now. I'm glad it's not just me. What I've read suggests it's normal and the weight should start moving again soon. I believe the body is trying to get used to the new weight before allowing you to lose more.

Ahh thanks for sharing, glad it’s not just me either! Our journeys do sound quite similar so at least we’re going through it together😊
Yep I think you’re right, I hope we see some losses after our bodies get used to current weight! Keep me updated with how you get on x

eeeeeeeee · 16/09/2024 14:55

Has anyone tried Gousto boxes? I spent £7 (discounted) for 3 meal options and think it was well spent! You get everything you need to make them eg fresh produce, seasoning, carbs and recipe cards. With my appetite suppression I reckon I could make the food last all week.

I’m really impressed by how…straightforward cooking from scratch is? I know that might sound silly, but I piled on the weight through takeaways, eating out and ready meals and thinking I never “had time” to cook.

I probably won’t continue to order Gousto long term, because I have an itch to go grocery shopping and meal plan and cook! We’ll see how long this lasts lol

weaseleyes · 16/09/2024 14:56

I tend to eat similar things during a given week, because if I start thinking about what to eat I start being drawn down a dark path! However, I try to mix it up a bit week on week, mainly so I'm not always having the same thing. I have a random organic veg box delivered, so I have to adjust to that, and I try to switch the protein elements round (within the constraints of being vegetarian, so I can't switch them round too much).

ChunkyMunky · 16/09/2024 15:03

Oooh I’m hungry today. Or at least, I think I am. I want food. The food noise is there. Pulling on my reserves of willpower to get me through until jab day.

I should have the first dose of my 5mg pen on Thursday, but think I’ll move it up to Wednesday, partly because of today’s urge to snack, and partly because I’m hoping to go away over the weekend and want an extra day to settle in to the higher dose.

lookathatbookcase · 16/09/2024 15:07

It's 2 things, isn't it? I also tend to eat the same-ish, day-by-day, because I like not having to think about it that much - but what I eat is good and tasty food, and i still enjoy cooking and still do some experimentation with recipes (hence soup-gate last night).

Butwe need to get our calories, etc in - coming in each day at 800 cal really isn't great. Someone on a much earlier thread said something like, we're adult women, not baby birds - we need to be fed and nourished accordingly.

poppym12 · 16/09/2024 15:10

MabelSpan · 16/09/2024 12:58

@poppym12 I take cyclizine, works a treat.

I've just done an online questionnaire for cyclizine but it's not suitable apparently as I take fexofenadine already.

poppym12 · 16/09/2024 15:11

lookathatbookcase · 16/09/2024 12:41

@poppym12 Peppermint or ginger tea are good for me when I'm nauseous. Counterintuitively, actually eating a little bit of something small and plain helps to get rid of it - something like a vanilla yogurt or half a banana.

I've eaten an apple and feel slightly less nauseous but will get some peppermint tea.

weaseleyes · 16/09/2024 15:28

I don't eat much more than 800 calories a day - between 800 and 1000 usually. That's not because I am bird like, but because bitter experience has shown me that's the only way I lose weight. If I eat more than 1000-1200 regularly, I gain steadily. I think I've just been on so many diets over the years that this is where I am. It's one reason I'm trying MJ. It's hard sticking to so little, and I hope if I can actually get to a healthy BMI instead of stopping short because I'm fed up, then my body's set point might shift a little. I'm mainly assuming that if I reach my goal then I might be able to eat say 1200 without gaining, but I'm well aware it might be less.

It's really frustrating because people always assume you're secretly eating more. My huge binges tend to be going crazy and eating about 1500 calories! I feel I ought to be eating more to justify the self-loathing I subject myself to. Eating low calories but too many refined carbs also keeps my weight on. The other annoyance is when people say, 'Oh, you're not eating enough, your body's in starvation mode'. Well, I've tried every level of calorie intake a million times, and unfortunately upping the calories a bit really doesn't work (for me, anyway - this may well apply to others). I walk a lot and I hope that when I weigh less I'll be able to exercise even more and that this might shift my metabolism a bit. My blood sugar tends to be a bit high, though not to a concerning level, and I've noticed it's lower on MJ, so I help that will help too.

eeeeeeeee · 16/09/2024 15:33

Height definitely plays a factor too, I’m quite short and my BMR calories are 1200. So eating at a deficit does bring me down to around 800. It’s doable with a heavy focus on fruit and veg.

lookathatbookcase · 16/09/2024 15:48

Thanks for sharing @weaseleyes @eeeeeeeee - that sounds tough (tho glad MJ is helping) and didn't mean to minimise your efforts.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2024 16:00

Same things yes I often have chicken salad - jacket - spag bol - salmon and rice - pasta etx

But this lady said she bought the same thing every week and all she ate

Chicken breast - salad - feta cheese and eggs

That was her shopping and ate it every day twice a day

That seems madness to me

UniqueLemonOrca · 16/09/2024 16:13

poppym12 · 16/09/2024 12:33

Best way to deal with nausea? I had my first 5ml yesterday and feel too nauseous to eat but I know I should. Any tips please? And is it likely to last long?

I bought Kwells and they worked a treat on my nausea. Had to get them off Amazon because they don't seem to stock them in my local Tesco & Morrisons - even Boots didn't have them.

Princessandthepie · 16/09/2024 16:21

Last week my family had fish and chips one night and pizza another. I'm not interested in either meal so I made myself a chicken salad with yoghurt dressing and seed salad topper and dh said he was quite jealous as it looked lovely and it is really tasty.

But I can't eat much, I feel queasy if I eat too much in one sitting, even too much water at once, makes me feel queasy.

I agree with @weaseleyes, to lose weight, experience has taught me it's around 800 to 1000 calories a day that I need to stick to. My allowance on my fitness pal is 1200 at the moment but I rarely eat that much in a day. So when I do eat, I try to make nutritional and protein rich.

ChunkyMunky · 16/09/2024 16:27

I agree @weaseleyes . I’m a bit dubious about ‘starvation mode’. I’m no expect or nutritionist, but I definitely need to eat less than recommended in order to loose.
