Posting at the top of this thread, some may find this very helpful:

Thank you MabelSpan for the useful information. I'm going to post your comments to from thread 20.

MabelSpan · Today 09:11

For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

Placemarking.

Took me a while to realise thread was full -I'm still learning how to use the forum lol

For some reason it won't let me quote people to reply. Thanks for the suggestions I've written some down there.
I did Google but I want to know how to work out what my body needs. Google can only give generic options. Like do I personally need vitamin D or maybe something else. I'd never heard of the Ashwagandha till a friend recommended it so I thought why not see what others can recommend.

TheRoseShaker · 04/09/2024 12:30

Re supplements, Nutrition Geeks are really good, and only one small tablet, some are two tablets but they are mostly tiny

I think it's hard to establish this for yourself without spending a lot of money on blood tests, etc, and hard to advise without knowing more about you. Are there particular things you're concerned about?
But I'm just taking a good quality (Centrium) multi vitamin for women over 50 and in winter, I add in VitD with calcium. I eat a healthy, varied diet but avoid dairy, and drink a reasonable amount of water so don't consider my diet lacks necessary nutrients. I add in extras as and when I get symptoms eg a banana if I get leg cramps, high dose VitC if I have a cold.
In relation to MJ specifically, I haven't suffered any particular side effects, not even with digestion, so haven't added in anything extra and I'm not a lover of the idea of adding in ultra processed high protein type supplements so have avoided these.

GeorgiePorge · 04/09/2024 13:37

placemarking as missed most of thread 20.

Also finally into to the 80's. scales showed me 89.3 this morning so 11.3kg in 12 weeks, certainly not the fastest, but not going to complain. Just feels fantastic to be on a consistent downward trajectory.

It has been so motivating to see everyone do well, especially those getting close to goal. still a long way for me (another 20kg), but as others have said, it does feel possible.

Pinkbendyman · 04/09/2024 13:44

Happy new thread everyone!

Well I’ve only gone and done it and reached a 3 stone weight loss!

I started in May at 15’11 and now weigh 12’11.

My original BMI was 32.6 and is now 26.4

10 more pounds to lose takes me to a healthy BMI although I’d like to lose a stone in total to reach 11’11, and then move into maintenance. I’m 5’9 and 54 with a large frame and size 8 feet so even at my lowest weight in my early twenties I was always around 11 stone!

I was at my heaviest ever, thoroughly fed up, a wardrobe full of ‘fat’ clothes and eating my way through the crappest of foods because I felt so miserable.

I’ve sold over £200 worth of clothes and shoes on Vinted and am so looking forward to buying a new winter wardrobe.

Now I feel amazing, mentally and physically and I’m fuelling my body with healthy foods cooked from scratch. I eat high protein foods with lots of fruit and vegetables. Gone are the days of processed foods, added sugar, high carbs and ‘bad’ fats.

I still have the odd treat or alcoholic drink if I want to and never feel like I’m depriving myself if I don’t.

I regularly walk at least 10k steps a day (with my job), often reaching 15k + and get to the gym when I get chance (more difficult at the moment because I’m self-employed and am really busy)

Regarding MJ itself, I’ve been moving up the strengths every 5 doses/pens and am currently on 10mg each week with very few side effects now. I move up to 12.5mg next week and hoping that I’ve got enough doses and pens left to get me to my target weight.

It’s been lovely reading about everyone’s experiences and journeys on this thread. Because I’ve (still) not told anyone irl that I’m on MJ, I really appreciate the help and support and encouragement we share. I couldn’t have done it without you 😊

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 04/09/2024 14:02

Thanks for the new thread! Waiting for my 5mg to be approved. Definitely feeling the effects of 2.5 less and less but that is what it is

livingwithpmdd · 04/09/2024 14:16

Thank you @Jimmyneutronsforehead for the new thread. And congratulations @Pinkbendyman - amazing progress 🙌🏻

I'm looking for some advice... Has anyone had a pain in their lower right side of their abdomen? I get a similar pain around ovulation.

It comes and goes and feels related to constipation. I'd say I'm not constipated on the whole and I drink more than 2ltrs of water a day, take Pysllium Husks and get enough fibre etc.

I've been on MJ 20 weeks now and had no real side effects so my instinct is it's IBS or a bug and not caused by MJ in its self.

I went up to 10mg the week before last but did this gradually by going up from 7.5 over 3 weeks.

The pain has been coming and going for just over a week. I took a laxative dose of Milk of Magnesia on Sunday and the pain was much better.

And I should mention I've got a lot of stress both work wise and in my personal life.

Has anyone else experienced this? Those with IBS can it feel like this? If it continues I'll go to the doctor but just thought I'd ask here first as I feel I've even posts about it before.

GlueNoGlue · 04/09/2024 14:36

Just checking into the new thread, I’m bored at work and have been really bad with food today so hoping a read through of this thread will give me a kick up the arse to get back on track!

Re supplements, Nutrition Geeks are really good, and only one small tablet, some are two tablets but they are mostly tiny

Oh it's their ashgadwada I take so must look at their other stuff. Thanks for reminding me.

TheRoseShaker · 04/09/2024 14:49

@livingwithpmdd I'm the same at the moment. Had my third (I think) 7.5mg last Friday and I've been really suffering with tummy pain the last few days, however I've been on holiday, and was out with work yesterday, although I made good choices, there was a LOT of alcohol consumed last night. I've just managed to eat a little pack of Sushi so hoping that helps, but yes it does feel like IBS. I had an indian last week on holiday, and oh my god it went straight through me and I felt awful.

Going to get back on the wagon as I've been eating really well and feeling good, not sure if it's the MJ or bad food!

I'm a coeliac so can't have a lot of things including certain foods, drinks, tablets, paper straws etc. Also a lot of vegan products are made using wheat etc so can't have those. I can't have dairy at all either plus a random list of other things including garlic and onion. I haven't been able to eat much except dairy free greek yoghurt with berries, seeds & honey; salads; and stir frys since starting MJ. Every time I eat a tiny amount of potato, rice or a slice of gluten free bread I'm ill. I've got health conditions like under active thyroid, fibromyalgia etc that make things harder\more complicated. That's just a little background to hopefully help explain why I'm trying to make sure I'm not lacking anything my body needs. A friend in England was able to get blood tests with a list of recommendations as to what she was lacking. I know my GP wouldn't do that as I'm struggling to get my basic thyroid checks.
I'm prone to restless legs all the time so that's why I take the magnesium and potassium separately.
I might have a look at multivitamins again and ask a chemist if there is one that is ok with all my meds.
Thanks for your help.

TheRoseShaker · 04/09/2024 15:02

@MamaBearH that sounds really rotten for you. I sympathise with the fibromyalgia as I suffer from that too. I bought a bundle from Nutrition Geeks, I take turmeric, magnesium, Vit D, B12, Ashgadwada, Iron, I'm sure there's others, just want to make sure I cover all bases and I have been feeling a bit better. I was deficient in Vit D on a blood test, I think a lot of people are, so it can't hurt is my theory. Oh, biotin as well!

I don't have any advice but if any one does post any advice about it I'll respond to it so it's in the OPs see all posts and at the start of thread 22 I will make sure it's in the first post as I'm sure you're not in a unique situation to have specific dietary needs and any advice that does arise might be helpful to you or others.

We've got a lot of knowledgeable posters, and I hope the topic of CFS crops up again as I know there are a lot of other posters than have CFS and were mentioning the benefits they have seen or how they're coping with the fatigue.

I need to start making notes for sure.

NippyCrab · 04/09/2024 15:21

@livingwithpmdd yes I've had right side pain and my GP attributed it to my endometriosis that's reared it's ugly head with HRT. I'm not so sure, I also get some gall bladder pain but that's an old gripe. I was also thinking it could be ovulation, but I'm on continuous progesterone now for endometriosis. I've been taking Buscupan and it's helped a lot, I am going to the loo but maybe not enough, its does feel like I need a good poo, (sorry 😆)

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 04/09/2024 15:33

@MamaBearH my DD has coeliac disease, it's so hard. You mention paper straws... these can have gluten?! I didn't know this.

livingwithpmdd · 04/09/2024 16:00

Thank you @TheRoseShaker and @NippyCrab you've both put my mind at rest. I think it's likely IBS or ovulation related. Thanks for the Buscopan reminder, taken some and it feels better!

Louboo3 · 04/09/2024 16:10

Has anyone received a 15mg pen recently and was the expiry date October?

Pinkbendyman · 04/09/2024 16:33

@Louboo3 yes, the 15mg pen I received from Zava last week has a 10/24 expiry date on it. I should just about use it up in time, luckily.

The pharmacy companies should really be more transparent about the short expiry dates on the 12.5mg and 15mg pens before they send them out.

Pinkyp22 · 04/09/2024 16:38

Worth noting as I've seen it mentioned a lot here , but for anyone with PCOS be cautious of Ashgadwada as it may actually increase / stimulate androgen production aka testosterone. I often see it being mentioned for pcos symptoms but I personally wouldn't take the risk which is disappointing as everything else about it sounds great, but I really dont need any more testosterone causing me havoc 🙄

Thank you so much. It's a problem I've encountered before many times, even with the physio from the Dr surgery who asked me questions about diet. When I said what I can't have she then proceeded to tell me to eat wheatabix and yogurt for breakfast. I reminded her I couldn't have either and she replied, well I don't know then just try them 🤦🏼‍♀️ It makes any diet harder when they are based off foods I can't have if that makes sense. I'd love to be normal!

@MamaBearH my DD has coeliac disease, it's so hard. You mention paper straws... these can have gluten?! I didn't know this.

Yes it's scary but some paper plates, cups, straws etc use gluten as the glue. Also a lot of new biodegradable cutlery & dishes etc are being made from wheat. What else....envelopes, stamps, beauty products (I had to stop using Sanctuary bath products due to wheat). I am super reactive compared to a coeliac friend of mine. I react as if I've been food poisoned -it's horrendous. Plus headaches, tiredness, swelling etc.

Hi all! Happy new thread! Congrats on all the losses and NSVs!

I’m week 1 of 2 of my family vacation. So far so good! I’ve been so good with the food plus daily walks, swimming, saunas and of course running after my toddler. Had the odd glass of wine / ice cream but I’m not sweating it, it is a vacation after all so little indulgences and enjoyments are part of the experience.

Btw ashwagandha can affect hyperthyroidism - just a little nota bene
