Hi @OrangesAndLemonz I have a condition that causes me to have monthly depression and anxiety and I've found MJ has made it better not worse. Everyone is different but for me it's been the best thing I've ever done.

Let us know how you get on with your first dose, we're here if you need anything.

@livingwithpmdd that is great news. So glad you've found MJ to be helpful for the pmdd! And thank you for the support. This thread is full of the kindest people on Mumsnet I think.

@OrangesAndLemonz hi! I don’t have a clinical history of anxiety, although occupational psychoanalytic tests show I have a very high anxiety score happily balanced by a very low despondency score (the things you find out!). The reason why I’m telling you this is because I tried Mysimba before Mounjaro and I didn’t have a clinical history of either depression or anxiety. At first it was wonderful. Immediate appetite suppression, total loss of food noise, weight falling off. I kept upping the dose per the instructions and felt myself getting more edgy. This was in the early days of these weight loss drugs (even before this thread first started!) and there was nothing to go on online other than the standard dosage instructions. I lasted three weeks before coming off it, because by that time I was existing in a state of absolute terror all the time. I was still only three quarters of the way to the maintenance dose.

Now there are so many more of us on these meds, we’re finding out things like some people being super sensitive to some drugs and some being resistant. In my case I would appear to be the former on Mysimba and (so far, about to go up to 7.5mg) the latter to Mj. Had I known, and had there been a forum like this back then, I would have taken a couple of pills a week of Mysimba and not gone any further as long as my appetite and food noise remained low. So I guess this is a longwinded way of saying, start as low as you feel safe. Go as slowly as you feel is right for you. Don’t assume the standard dosage increments are mandatory. There are many people who lose weight satisfactorily on 2.5mg, which isn’t in theory supposed to happen. But it does, it’s quite clear it does. Keep coming back to this thread, it’s invaluable. Someone will always be there to help. And trust how your body is feeling. I wish I had!

@Ifyounevergiveup that is very interesting to hear. great that you have been able to settle on MJ and not had a repeat of the Mysimba symptoms. that sounds similar to me on the Ozempic. I am sensitive to meds generally so I think a lower dose to start with will, as you say, make me feel safer, because once it's in, you can't get it out and have to wait for it to wear off. God I really hope that I can tolerate MJ mentally, it would be so amazing...

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 31/08/2024 21:12

@OrangesAndLemonz I'm at the end of week 1 and on Sertraline. I had a day where I went extremely low, to what I'd say was a dangerous place. I don't know how much if any was due to MJ, rather than life (difficult day), but it wasn't a place I've been in for a very long time. I'm over it now, but it was worrying (although typically, at the time it didn't feel like something I could rationalise).

Ah sorry to hear you had such a low day. They are awful when they come aren't they. but glad to hear you have picked up again afterwards. Long may it continue!

AelitaQueenofMars · 01/09/2024 11:10

There was a short thread on the MJ and depression topic a little while ago, which I posted on at this link.

A month on I feel absolutely fine (currently on 7.5) and my mood is probably better than it has been in years. I don’t however take anti-depressants, but hopefully it’s some reassurance for you.

This was very helpful reading Aelita, thank you. It's great to hear both that I'm not the only one who had a mental health freakout on a weightloss drug, and, that most if not all have been much better on MJ than on other options. I am keeping everything crossed I can tolerate it, because people's results are just mindblowing!

OrangesAndLemonz · 01/09/2024 15:49

NippyCrab · 31/08/2024 21:26

@OrangesAndLemonz I'm on Sertraline and Quetiapine for clinical depression and EUBPD. I've felt okay and actually quite calm on MJ. I can get a tad highly strung even on my meds and I feel good and positive. I'm good with life at the moment though. I've also recently had my HRT changed so that will make a difference too. I started on 2.5mg on the 5th of August and I had no mood side effects at all, just physical. Xx

Ahh I'm so pleased for you! To feel ok and calm, and pretty good with life generally is the bee's knees! I am also feeling pretty good with life generally at the moment and also, since my ozempic experiment last year, I too am now on HRT too, so I am hoping that will make things feel even more stable mentally. To lose some fat and just heavy weight I'm dragging around would be the icing on the cake. Delighted you've had no mood side effects - boom! x

Ifyounevergiveup · 01/09/2024 11:09

And despite my doubts for me…I couldn’t be more thrilled for you. It’s been a pleasure reading your posts and watching your success x

oh my god, WOW! congratulations! thanks for sharing - so good to hear. Bet you feel a million dollars 🙌

Weigh day for me, on holiday last week so had a week of eating and drinking as I wanted to and lost one pound still! Very happy with that. Also did three days over when I was due to inject. The food noise started to come back (could be due to bad habits when on holiday/travelling home) but the hunger didn’t. So I’m feeling more confident about how I’ll manage if/when I’m ready to stop. No side effects at all last week, so I’m going up to 12.5 this month to see how it goes. Does anyone know what happens after 15? Are they stopping at that dose or is a higher dose in the works?

I think they are trialling higher doses in the US. But don't know if they will be available anytime soon or at all.

I have read that for some in the US, once on 15mg the best weight loss happens there and you just stay on that dose. But have also read from people in the US, that you should only move up when the current dose stops working. Some say if you titrate up too quickly, you have no where to go once you get to the top dose.

As someone that finds the lower doses stops working quickly, I am taking a gamble and plan to go up to 15mg next pen and hope I can stay there until I'm at goal weight.

Lastchancefatty · 01/09/2024 15:57

I have been away for the weekend. Turned down all sorts of food that I just wasn't bothered about. Found out I can drink alcohol with no adverse effects but didn't really want to drink overly much. Had a lovely piece of home made cake one day but only one piece. Had a piece of shop cake another day that I usually love and can take or leave it. Ate a twirl which was my favourite chocolate and didn't even enjoy it so won't bother again. It's a revelation. I don't have much suppression but the foods I used to crave and binge on no longer hold power over me! That's a first in my life and I like it 😊

SnacklessWonder · 01/09/2024 16:11

Ouch. Just did jab 4 and that hurt! Tried it on my right side as did left but it was really painful so did it on left again but in a different place. No idea why hurt so much today!

Anyway - if I'm going to top up what's left in my 2.5mg pen with some from my 5mg pen - how do I do that?

Ifyounevergiveup · 01/09/2024 16:50

@SnacklessWonder ow on your behalf! Have you got some syringes?

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 01/09/2024 16:50

I can't bloody believe it. I've not lost anything at all. I've not gained anything either, but my clothes are all baggy and my bum looks rounder rather than flabby and square. I've even had to buy a belt smaller than my last one.

I think my scales might be lying to me, because otherwise I haven't got a foggy idea.

@Ifyounevergiveup no but I've got time to get some as next dose is next Sunday

Now come along, Jimmy, a round bum is definitely not something to be complaining about 😆

I would suggest we should all assume your scales are lying today. Try again tomorrow, but the bum (and belt) is definitely a better measure!

Ifyounevergiveup · 01/09/2024 16:54

@Jimmyneutronsforehead ps please don’t join the dolphin pod. 🐬

Eyf · 01/09/2024 16:55

I’d love a round bum! Sometimes it takes the scales a few days to catch up I think!

I also emailed ZAVA to enquire about the maintenance stance and what BMI they would prescribe to and they never got back to me.

Does anyone know what BMI they prescribe to?

I’ve been reading on the Facebook groups (not the MN one though!) and Reddit and there is a definite theme of people getting really panicky because they feel hunger and talk about moving up doses before they should be. IMO, you are supposed to feel hungry on MJ. The whole point of the time you are on MJ is that you have the time to learn how to deal with the hunger pangs. You have the time to learn how much you can eat before you truly feel full. You have the time to learn how to make good choices.

It scares me to see how many people think that MJ alone will solve all their food issues, don’t make sustainable changes to their diet and won’t take responsibility.

Sorry, rant over! I’ve come off the Facebook groups because reading them just put my blood pressure up 🤣

Same here re the groups apart from the MN one and the Oushk group I actually deleted the app last week again. I was off it for a year and been back on it for 6 months and I've had enough haha. Xx

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 01/09/2024 17:22

@SnacklessWonder I would say get some 1ml syringes (there are links on the website linked at the top of this thread) and draw out the remaining dose. It could well be more than a 0.6ml so have a look at the click/ml chart.

Depending on what you are aiming for, you could then draw a little out of the 5mg pen to 'top up'.

Warning! ⚠️ I planned to take a bridging dose of 3.75ish. Got 0.6ml from the first pen and did the (very simple!) maths to work out I needed to take 0.2ml from the next pen to get there.

Sadly, my brain did not compute that 5mg = 2 x 2.5mg so HELLO 5mg dose a week earlier than expected! 😂🤦‍♀️

I am mortified that I seem to have cocked up so many of my injections with this stuff! 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Belugaheights · 01/09/2024 17:28

I wondered if anyone was on 12.5mg who can help me with symptoms I’ve been having since I took it yesterday.
Ive been on MJ since April and am now into a healthy BMI but I want to lose another half a stone before I stop (hopefully at the end of this pen)

I took my first dose of 12.5mg into the thigh as usual but today I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus! Literally my leg muscles feel sore when they even touch the fabric of the duvet, my ribs hurt and I feel washed out beyond words.

I wonder if this is because I am now at a high dose relative to my BMI? Just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced these muscle pains on MJ or if it’s just me - could be covid I guess if it’s not a usual side effect. I’ve not had it prior to this on any dose

I hear you! I did this today, drew 0.7 (ish) from my old 2.5mg pen, then added 10 clicks from my new 5mg pen. I have no idea what that adds up to. At one point, it made sense to me, but alas I've lost the maths again Confused

FlappingMadly · 01/09/2024 17:58

@Jimmyneutronsforehead don’t forget we lose differently to men and inches before kg.

SnacklessWonder · 01/09/2024 18:12

@IReallyNeedThisToWork @katinthehattt maths is not my strong point Blush

Secretslimmer · 01/09/2024 18:14

SnacklessWonder · 01/09/2024 10:43

To be honest I've not checked but I need to because I have chronic hypertension (not weight related as I've been at my optimal weight and had the same blood pressure!)

Think it might have been a one off, had another go today and it’s way lower - same as it was pre MJ, and all good

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 01/09/2024 18:17

I haven’t posted on the main thread for a bit, but wanted to update here for a wider audience as it were to show this really does work. I started back in February on thread one. It’s now six and a half months. I’ve gone from 14.1/3 to… 9.9. I’m on my final titration off and will be MJ free in three weeks. Keep faith and remember stalls are normal. We are humans not machines and it’s not linear.

Best wishes from Flappy, who is now swishing round in a size 10, feels a million times healthier and finally feels free.

It’s great to see your update!

Can I ask @FlappyFish - what happened with your weight as you titrated down, and how long did you titrate down for? Are you on 2.5 now? Sorry too many questions!

I’ve got 2 weeks of 7.5 left - did hope I’d hit target weight by then, was thinking of then dropping to 5.

I’ve been circling around 2 lbs off target weight forever and wondering whether I’m basically at where I need to be, or also whether weight might still drop even if very slowly if I went down to 5.

My side effects haven’t been too bad except I get at least a day a week of being really knackered /insomnia so I’d like to shift down and unltimately off pretty soon
