@Sassenach85 are you losing, Sassenach? And if so have you lost from the start or did it take time to kick in?

SnacklessWonder · 01/09/2024 11:16

I am struggling with a bit of anxiety every now and again but my mood is SHOCKING at times. I am really intolerant and irritable.

Pinkbendyman · 01/09/2024 11:45

Congratulations @FlappyFish 👏🎉🏅🥳

As a pp has said, you and the original gang have been a guiding light and a source of inspiration! A huge thank you 🙏

What are you plans for maintenance?

GlueNoGlue · 01/09/2024 11:57

@Ifyounevergiveup I've really struggled with side effects so I’ve gone up slowly. I’ve had the burps/stomach issues since I started 5mg so did 2 months on it and now 2 months on 10mg too. I’ve always had good suppression, but struggled a lot with being so ill. I do lose almost every week and average loss of 2-3lb a week. I had a lot to lose though and have completely overhauled my diet! Sorry, not sure that’s much help for you.

FlappyFish · 01/09/2024 12:00

I won’t continue to take a maintenance dose of MJ, but from a how not to gain I will closely monitor weight. I did this before MJ too. I have no problem maintaining a weight. It’s just the weight I maintained at was 14 stone.

I know that may sound a bit daft. But I have weighed daily for years and years. I have started at the gym and I am doing that for mental health as well as physical. The biggest change for me over this process is the realisation I am doing this for health and not slimness. I suppose when we are younger we take our health for granted. It’s only as the years march on the niggles of knee pain, hip pain start.

Ifyounevergiveup · 01/09/2024 11:11

@Sassenach85 are you losing, Sassenach? And if so have you lost from the start or did it take time to kick in?

I have been losing steadily with a holiday blip which delayed me a couple of weeks. I have lost 31 pounds in 15 weeks.

I still would like to lose another 2 stone.

Sadteacher · 01/09/2024 12:21

I am currently reading through all the old threads so it is nice you are still updating your journey @FlappyFish I agree, I’ve managed to maintain being 3 stone overweight for years! I need a new weight for my body to spring back to! Please keep posting, it is so nice to have inspiration!

I am not noticing anything other than a slightly bloated tummy ache after meals, very mild. I’m only in week 1 though.

Choux · 01/09/2024 12:30

@Ifyounevergiveup I am like @Sassenach85 and my body seems to get used to each new dose quite quickly and as I have had no side effects on any dose I have increased the dose with each new pen. I lost 4lb in week 1 on 2.5mg.

I have now been on it almost exactly 6 months and have lost almost 2.5 stone. I could have lost more if I didn't have a life - weekends away and holidays slow me down. Eg I had a two week holiday and put on 7lbs due to eating more carbs, sugar, alcohol etc. It only took 10 days of good eating to lose that 7lbs again but that works out at almost a month of not losing anything.

This is my first week on 15mg and I think I will lose 3lb this week. Hopefully I won't get used to 15 too quickly as I want to lose another stone or so.

I would give 7.5mg a go. The info I've seen says that is where weight loss often starts. Are you trying to eat better and tracking calories anyway? That's probably even more important if your suppression is minimal.

Can anyone post a link to syringes that are suitable? Ideally on amazon so I can get them with prime delivery.

I have looked at the ones linked in the opening post but they are currently on back order.

camerontucker · 01/09/2024 13:35

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 01/09/2024 09:14

Just done my first jab of 7.5mg. Bit nervous as I used the bonus dose in my last 5mg pen to do an in between dose and I felt rubbish for a couple of days. I hope 7.5mg works well as I've ended up with a couple of pens thanks to early ordering.

I'm in exactly the same position as you. Did bonus dose last week moving up from 5 and felt under the weather. Did 7.5 full dose yesterday and feel totally fine. Weird as I was prepared to feel crap and soooooo tired.

guestusername · 01/09/2024 13:54

I’ve been reading on the Facebook groups (not the MN one though!) and Reddit and there is a definite theme of people getting really panicky because they feel hunger and talk about moving up doses before they should be. IMO, you are supposed to feel hungry on MJ. The whole point of the time you are on MJ is that you have the time to learn how to deal with the hunger pangs. You have the time to learn how much you can eat before you truly feel full. You have the time to learn how to make good choices.

It scares me to see how many people think that MJ alone will solve all their food issues, don’t make sustainable changes to their diet and won’t take responsibility.

Sorry, rant over! I’ve come off the Facebook groups because reading them just put my blood pressure up 🤣

Snozzlemaid · 01/09/2024 14:10

I agree. I left the facebook groups I followed for a bit too, as it was so infuriating.
And I agree about the hunger, we need to learn it's okay to feel hungry at times and MJ is hopefully teaching me to accept this and know how to react to hunger in the long term.
I've done two pens of 2.5 and 5 and have a 7.5 ready for next time.
I don't want to race up through the doses and ideally I'd like to not go any higher than 10mg if I can.

Choux · 01/09/2024 14:13

You are absolutely right @guestusername. MJ doesn't lose the weight for you. It just makes it easier for you to make food and lifestyle choices and keep to portion sizes which will allow you to lose weight. You still have to make the right choices.

And then continue with those choices once you have lost the weight and are no longer on Mounjaro.

Ifyounevergiveup · 01/09/2024 14:13

@Choux oh, that’s interesting and gives me hope. I am indeed tracking calories; I always have, so it seemed sensible to carry on. My diet has always been good, it’s the amount I have to eat to avoid clawing hunger which has always defeated me (that makes it sound like I was eating a lot - I wasn’t - my average calorie intake was and remains 1300 a day). All I wanted from Mj was for it to kill my appetite so I could eat, say, 1000 calories a day until I’d lost weight, but so far no dice! I don’t have as much to lose as some, having lost 4 stone on my own, but 2extra stone is still a lot at 5’2” 😔 . I’m the same as @FlappyFish ; once I’m there I’ll be able to maintain it, it’s the getting there which is defeating me.

SnacklessWonder · 01/09/2024 14:33

I'm about to do dose 4 of 2.5mg and I've felt hungry constantly but it's just not distracting now, it's just a feeling and I don't feel the need to eat when I feel it.

The FB groups are mental on another level. I've left most of them now.

StrawberriesandMango · 01/09/2024 14:44

I've lost 21 pounds so far on MJ in 3/4 months. However I am really struggling to go to higher levels I tried 5mg and was vomiting for days with bad stomach pain and sulphur burps. I have 3 small children so this was not something I could risk further). I went down to 3.75mg and had the same symptoms.

I decided to stop MJ for a month and then restart, I maintained my weight and have restarted this weekend on 2.5mg. I'm going to have to take it slow and go to 3mg next after 4 weeks. I've bought a 5mg pen and I'm stretching the doses even if it goes over the 30 days that's my problem.

How am I supposed to move up though if I keep getting so sick.

If you’re losing on 2.5mg can you just stay on that long term?

StrawberriesandMango · 01/09/2024 14:48

Thanks @ItsAlrightDarling I'm going to try that this time for as long as possible, I'm ok with a bit of hunger it will prepare me for the longer term thanks.

You are still supposed to get hungry on Mounjaro. I am on 15mg and was hungry before my lunch today but I can now eat a chicken salad and yoghurt for lunch and be full. I can resist crisps, biscuits and chocolate.

You have lost well on 2.5mg so stay there.

SnacklessWonder · 01/09/2024 14:54

@StrawberriesandMango As others have said, if you're losing well, and you are, just stick at 2.5mg.

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 01/09/2024 15:04

Anyone had any progress with MedExpress orders? I’ve been stuck on medicine dispensed since Thursday. I’ve just messaged them but got a warning about delays to responding to messages 🙄

Rorpethy · 01/09/2024 15:18

@StrawberriesandMango I'm only on my 2nd week of 2.5 but it's making me feel like shit, I don't think I'll be moving to 5 anytime soon. Luckily I am losing at this dose but I do worry that if it stops working, I might not ever be able to move up.

OrangesAndLemonz · 01/09/2024 15:31

GoodLuckBabe · 31/08/2024 11:39

@OrangesAndLemonz of course everyone is different but I have a long history of mild to moderate anxiety and depression (have been on anti-depressants for nearly 15 years) and have not had an issue with MJ (am around 5 weeks in). This is in contrast to when I try following WW or SW or similar without MJ. I tend to become quite low due to the pressure and restriction of constantly having to deprive myself. And then give up…
I was very alert to the risk of my mood going down and so for the first couple of weeks I didn’t try and calorie count or change my diet in any way, so maybe that helped. Just went with the flow and checked in with myself regularly. After a few weeks I started thinking about eating more healthily and felt quite positive that it was much easier than normal. I have had a few evenings where I’ve been stressed or low due to life stuff, and have felt a bit lost, because one of my usual coping strategies is to buy myself some delicious food and eat it all. But I have had an early night or a small quantity of chocolate or whatever and have been ok.
I would say try a slow start as you suggest, and check in with yourself regularly - good luck x

Thanks @GoodLuckBabe, that is good news!

OrangesAndLemonz · 01/09/2024 15:33

KrankyKumquat · 31/08/2024 12:07

Hi @OrangesAndLemonz
I've a long history of depression and anxiety but was quite well when I started on MJ so not on any medication. I noticed a flattening of mood, particularly in the first month, and was thinking 'uh, oh, is this the beginning...' but it never got worse and has subsequently improved. Some of this may have been linked to stopping drinking rather than MJ though, especially the anxiety. Sleep is worse but isn't causing lower mood, but I'm lucky as I'm 'quietly retiring' and WFH so being a little tired is manageable!
As the weight loss has really racked up, I am feeling better and better - happier to be out in public, more confident, higher self-esteem so win, win.
Just a word of warning though, MJ affects digestion so may reduce/slow actions of your ADs. Might be worth discussing with your GP if you feel they're less effective.

@KrankyKumquat this is reassuring to hear. And yes, I'm on the lowest dose of A-Ds at the moment so I've got scope to go up if I need to. God your win-wins sound so marvellous... if I can get to that point I'm sure I'd feel better too!
