@TheRoseShaker congrats on your BMI ☺️
How is your fibromyalgia now?

Marmalade100 · 27/08/2024 13:00

Hello ! Has anyone had zero side effects on 2.5 then 5 has floored them then 7 .5 has been ok ? I have everything- heavy legs, exhaustion, nauseau permanently, I feel absolutely awful. Will it go on 7.5 maybe ? Hopefully ? It's affecting every aspect of my life at the minute and nothing is working to get rid of any of it - 2nd 5 jab, so 5 and a half weeks in and 1stone 5 down so don't really want to stop..

GingerLemonTea · 27/08/2024 13:05

8 days since ordering I still don’t have my 5th pen. I am now one day overdue with the injection and I think suppression is wearing off tho it will still be in my system. Today will deffo be maintenance calories rather than a deficit. No update from Boots.

On another note I’m getting so many comments at work. I work in a big place & there’s been days where 3 or 4 ppl have commented. Initially it was nice, it still is, but also a bit much plus the questions about how I’m doing it. I’ve lost 38 pounds since April so it is noticeable but I feel a bit uncomfortable with all the questions.

How is your fibromyalgia now?

I feel like a new woman! I did have a lidocaine infusion last week so that might be helping too, but I was starting to feel better even before that. My husband is so confused, he doesn't know what's happened to me 🤣

Ifyounevergiveup · 27/08/2024 14:20

@SnacklessWonder yes, I totally felt the same about the money while going through the 2.5mg process. It’s a very expensive gateway when it doesn’t come with much progress! It’s taken me until my fourth 5mg dose to feel any side effects, the very concept of not wanting to eat feels a million miles away, and I’ve lost just 9lb in what is now 9 weeks. I’m hanging on with grim determination but my uncontrollable anxiety brain is already planning what to do when I get to week 5 of the biggest dose and I’m still only 9lb lighter 🙄. Trust the process, trust the process, trust the process (that’s me talking to me, obvs!)

Azuresky68 · 27/08/2024 14:25

Hi there. Just joined recently and found so much help and advice. Is there a way of searching for a topic on Mumsnet? There must be the same questions asked a lot? I wanted to find out about a group that has disappeared..I found a new group which refers to mangos 🥭. Just curious about why 'it' can't be mentioned? Good luck to everyone.

Azuresky68 · 27/08/2024 14:26

Meantcto say the mango 🥭 group is on FB not Mumsnet

SnacklessWonder · 27/08/2024 15:08

@ItsAlrightDarling Yeah, I do keep that in mind. Just struggling on lack of suppression and hunger this week (dose 3) and can't wait to get to 5mg and see if there is a difference.

@Ifyounevergiveup Will you move up to 7.5mg now? I've felt some effects but I do think I could have acheived the same weightloss so far without MJ.

weaseleyes · 27/08/2024 15:23

Probably all of us could have achieved - and have achieved - the same losses without MJ temporarily at least. I guess the issue it whether it helps us stick at it. Like you say, maybe you'll have a better idea how you feel at 5mg.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 27/08/2024 15:28

TheRoseShaker · 27/08/2024 12:27

🥳

Eating dust and inhaling steam obviously worked then! 😁

Well I think I found the secret answer, but you're not going to like it.

Pool water 🤮

That's amazing ☺️ I told someone in real life with fibromyalgia about it as I'd been hearing great stuff about it's effects on it. They have started it now so good to see extra proof that it does help fibromyalgia.

While I have achieved a few lbs a week losses before on other diets, it’s never been as consistent as it has been on MJ for me. So previously I’d lose 3lbs, gain 1lb, stay the same, lose 1lb, for example, and after a couple of months I’d be maybe half a stone down. With MJ I have lost weight consistently every week (average 2lbs) which never happened before!

NippyCrab · 27/08/2024 16:32

@TheRoseShaker I have Fibro too and ME, I've noticed a difference in myself too, whether it's eating so much cleaner, the MJ, my new HRT or a combination. I am tired the last week but that's because we have a new puppy so I've been doing extra and switched on with him. The other 2 I can let them potter after our walks. Xx

NippyCrab · 27/08/2024 16:36

@VioletsHeart and @Jimmyneutronsforehead you both have made me giggle with your posts, there's no greater feeling than when your clothes are sagging at the arse haha. I used to feel accomplished on a diet if I could get my trousers down without unbuttoning them. I can't wait till my clothes are too big 🥳 x

supadupapupascupa · 27/08/2024 16:59

Things I've noticed......

3 rd injection this morning 2.5mg

My tinnitus is worse after the injection
My taste buds go a bit numb!

I will be moving up to 7.5 so quickly you won’t see me for dust (which you’re welcome to snack on whenever it helps, @Jimmyneutronsforehead 😆). I have my 5th i.e. slightly bigger 5mg dose on Thursday so happy to post on how it goes over the next two weeks (although if there’s one thing we’re all learning it’s that Mj is different for everyone!)

Hi all,

I'm looking to double check something please? I'm going to use an insulin needle/syringe to get the bonus dose from my 2.5mg pen.

I've looked at the chart that @ObsidianTree had provided on previous threads - am I right in thinking it's 2.5mg is 0.60ml please?

I'm hoping to get at least that much out of my pen - if there is any more I'll take that as well to help with the jump to 5mg next week (which I'm feeling quite nervous about already!!)

Thanks in advance.

Hi. I asked the same question a few months ago 🙂
0.60ml is a full dose of whatever pen you are using eg 0.60ml is 2.5mg from 2.5mg pen, 0.60ml is 5mg from a 5mg pen and so on.

Willowy1982 · 27/08/2024 18:04

I'm really interested in the improvements with fibromyalgia when using MJ. I have fibro and rheumatoid arthritis and due second 2.5mg jab tomorrow. What is everyone finding that is so different?

happygertie · 27/08/2024 18:22

@supadupapupascupa

I am only on week 1 day 5 but I defo noticed my taste buds went a bit numb this week.

Asthenia · 27/08/2024 18:35

Had my first dose Sunday morning and it’s going really well so far. No side effects yet. I’ve felt hungry around mealtimes but I haven’t wanted to
snack at all, and I feel completely indifferent to sweet stuff which has always been my biggest addiction. It’s so, so weird. I went to have a couple of biscuits with my tea earlier out of habit. Took a bite and thought actually I don’t want this. It may not last but I’ve never felt like this in my life. Cautiously optimistic so far…
Planning to weigh myself next Monday at the doctors as the scales at home only go up to 150kg. Will be interesting to see if there’s much of a difference!
sorry to hear of people having difficulty on the 5mg dose, I hope it clears up soon! Really enjoying reading about everyone’s losses so far, it’s very inspiring.

Just to follow up on @QueenOfHiraeth post, I had a gastric bypass 4 years ago and that is the exact advice I was given, and still follow today. Well, almost - the 20/20/20 thing probably lasted about a year!

I didn't regain any weight after my surgery, but I did that typical bariatric patient thing of losing a good chunk of weight, then falling pregnant! I continued to lose throughout my pregnancy but was very poorly towards the end with various problems, had a horrendous birth where me and my son both almost died, and then a shocking recovery. And until I started MJ, my weight was static from about 2 months post-partum. No gains, but no losses either. No change in what I was eating, or how much - I really believe that MJ has given my metabolism a good kick up the backside for me to start losing again.

My surgeon showed me this video to hammer home the importance of not drinking during or immediately after meals, which was one of the tips in @QueenOfHiraeth post above.

I was thinking about this though, does it apply to Mounjaro as well? Because you haven't got a physically smaller stomach with MJ so is it that drinking causes it to empty faster, or does it fill it up more - i.e. it's a bigger space so maybe its not just like a funnel?

Thanks @Tubs2024 - I managed to get 0.70 out so a small increase before I start on the 5mg. I have to say I am glad I bought the needles rather than trying to do the hard twist as it was SO easy to just draw the liquid out.

I think it does, but in a different way. We know that Mounjaro works on our brains to trigger that "full" feeling, but there's also slowed stomach emptying, which helps us to keep feeling full between meals. If we drink a lot with meals (a couple of sips probably wouldn't make that much difference) then if it's pushing the food through sooner than it would have done, it stands to reason that the full feeling won't last and we may feel hungrier sooner.

Despite knowing this, my husband routinely chugs a pint of water with each and every meal, then wonders why he's hungry again an hour later!

Btrsun10 · 27/08/2024 20:52

Isn't it weird how it affects everyone differently?

I'm on my 3rd week of 7.5 and it is not nearly as effective as 5mg was (for me).
I've had no side effects with any of the doses and I definitely feel that I am not getting as much suppression as I was previously.

I've had a couple of weekends away, ate and drank more than I should have and certainly a lot more carbs! I have not weighed for 2 weeks and I'm scared to do so. I think I shall have to bite the bullet and weigh in the morning.

No it probably won't go on 7.5mg and it's likely it will get worse. Worst case scenario you will end up with non stop vomiting and diarrhoea and end up in hospital.

If you have permanent nausea then you should drop back down to 2.5mg for your next jab and then when you feel well again cautiously move up to 3, 3.5, 4 etc till you find the level that allows you to eat a reasonable amount of calories without too many side effects. This should then get your weight loss to 1-2lbs a week. A 19lb loss in 5.5 weeks is very fast - no wonder you feel terrible.

Speak to your supplier if you are unsure what dose to go back to or how to increase back up once your symptoms disappear. On the plus side your pens will always be cheaper if you only ever need 2.5mg and 5mg pens!
