@Lastchancefatty It really does feel life changing doesn't it. To go from eating all my feelings and emotions on a daily basis, to actually having control and restraint over the food I eat. Not to be thinking about food all day.

Have you found any effects on hormones / periods since starting MJ? I have read comments on here reporting changes to cycles, being a bit all over the place. Obviously with pcos my cycle was already all over the place, but incidentally today I have gotten my period and thats an exact 30 day cycle! Something that hasnt happened since before I had my son 12 years ago. I have definitely noticed a calm in my anxiety and hormonal emotions in the lead up to this period. In fact I have noticed a huge difference day to in my moods / anxiety, weather that is actually the MJ or the postive effects of having lost weight I dont know. Im not one of lifes positive thinkers, I have always been a bit of a pessimist ( another trait I learnt from my mum) but I have noticed since MJ that I actually am able to find positives!

I've also just ordered 7.5, keen to start but I've got one week left of 5mg plus my bonus dose which I refuse to waste!

Edited

I also have one week plus the bonus (after I inject tomorrow). Then I'm also moving up to 7.5. Yes I have noticed my moods are better and my hormonal migraines have virtually gone. I've had just one migraine since I started MJ in June when I used to have 2 per month. I'm less anxious and more confident and happy. I also feel less pessimistic and depressed. I don't ever want to come off it! I hope it continues to be as good as it has been. I wouldn't really know now when my period should be as I take the progesterone only pill so I don't have them anymore but the MJ made me start spotting a lot in the first month of taking it. That's settled down now though. Certainly does something to the hormones. Mostly positive for me I'm glad to say.

Hi all, I'm day 2, week 1 and my legs are aching so so bad! Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes I had this, still do occasionally, no idea why! Well done for starting, good luck on your MJ journey!

7.5 is kicking my arse! 2.5 did not a lot for me. 5 was better, I still felt hungry but was satiated after small portions, starving towards the last 2 days and was able to eat decent meals. My first week on 7.5 was the same. Had my second 7.5 on Friday, and I can barely eat now. On holiday in Spain at the moment, had a small Danone protein yogurt for breakfast, decent salad and quarter of a pizza for lunch but I couldn't eat anything for dinner, just been out for a Chinese and all I managed was two tiny dumplings, brought the rest home!

Luckily I haven't had any terrible side effects, I managed 3 Malibu and cokes tonight, but I literally feel like I've eaten a horse! Need to order another pen, I don't think I'll move up to 10 just yet, will order another 7.5, going to see how I feel by Friday and may inject a bit less, it's not good to not be able to eat.

If anyone is thinking the med isn't working, trust the process, it clearly has a very effective cumulative effect, you will feel it I promise!

I have definitely underestimated the fact that due to the half life it builds in your system...I'm on the second week of my second 5mg pen and the past week and a half I have really been struggling. Anything I eat feels like I have rocks iny stomach and constantly have a lump in my throat.

I am hoping it eases of soon but might go 8 rather than 7 days for my next dose.

The way I have been feeling and the fact I have been loosing steadily has made me order another 5mg pen even though I actually already have a 7.5mg one. The thought of 7.5mg currently makes me feel 🤢

@DreamingofGinoclock that's a good shout to maybe push it out an extra day, thank you. Envy is exactly how I feel!

@Alwayshockey I’ve been with Boots since I started in March. Exactly the same as you; can’t get delivery (full time teacher so can’t get it delivered to school) and our nearest Asda is a 40 minute drive away.

When I signed up the only proof they needed were photos of me, plus me telling them my height and weight. You can re order online really easily each time; just put in new weight and answer questions. There’s an option to say that you’re been using MJ through another provider, so presumably they’ll let you stay on your current dose with proof of previous prescription.

It can take a few days for the prescription to be ready in your chosen store, but once it is it’s just as case of going in and giving some details to collect it. They get it straight out of the fridge for you and the box is tiny and very light, so is easily transportable.

That's very helpful, thank you. I also work in education so can't get it delivered to work either.

Silly question incoming. Does MJ make you lose weight solely due to appetite suppression (so, it relies on me eating less), or is there something else it does too, that helps the weight come off? I only ask because I'm worried about the suppression not working and still feeling hungry enough to eat how I always do because I have no self control.

I understand it affects appetite, slows gastric transit, and also modifies how fat is processed.

You need to maintain a calorie deficit to lose weight. This is easier when you are not feeling so hungry. However your habits may, for example, still lead you to the fridge door when feeling stressed. The drug creates a bit of space to reflect that you aren't actually experiencing hunger, and deal with those feelings in a different way. That's the big challenge I guess, the opportunity to reset the relationship with food, whilst urges to eat are reduced?

Choux · 27/08/2024 08:07

@SaulHudsonDavidJones read this. The key bit is that while Mounjaro helps you to eat less and stops cravings you still need to adjust your diet and lifestyle to eat better to get the maximum benefit. If you continue your eat smaller portions of the junk food and snacks that got you overweight in the first place you won't lose as much as if you switch to low fat proteins and veg with occasional treats of pizza and chocolate. And if you don't change your eating habits you willl likely put the weight back on after you come off Mounjaro. So all that money will be wasted.
www.theindependentpharmacy.co.uk/weight-loss/guides/what-is-mounjaro-and-how-does-it-work-for-weight-loss

How Does Mounjaro Help With Losing Weight?
The Role of Tirzepatide in Appetite Control
Mounjaro works by activating receptors in the stomach and brain that tell your body it’s time to stop eating. It includes an ingredient called tirzepatide that mimics natural fullness hormoness_.
After taking a dose, tirzepatide starts to circulate. This triggers nerves that signal the brain, “My stomach is full, so stop feeling hungry!” People begin feeling satisfied with much smaller meals than they would normally need to feel full or content.
Over weeks and months of weekly Mounjaro injections, smaller meal portions lead to eating fewer calories overall. This calorie deficitt_, paired with Mounjaro’s other effects, is what drives weight loss.
Combining Mounjaro With Lifestyle Adjustments
In addition to curbing appetite signals between the gut and brain, Mounjaro also improves insulin resistancee_. Insulin is the hormone that keeps blood sugar levels steady. After eating carbs or sugar, insulin removes excess glucose from the bloodstream and locks it away in cells for energy later.
For many facing obesity, their bodies may not respond to insulinn as needed, leading to frustrating fluctuations in blood sugar levels. When cells reject insulin, sugar spikes in the blood and then comes crashing down. These swings lead to carb cravingss, low energy, and increased hunger. Mounjaro aims to help with this common struggle.
Mounjaro makes fat, muscle, and liver cells more responsive to insulin. This means cells can take in sugar from your blood more easily, helping keep your blood sugar levels steady.
Steady blood sugar prevents the energy and mood crashes that lead to overeating and weight gain. It also enables the body to use up stored fat more efficiently when in a calorie deficit.

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 27/08/2024 08:28

@Irisginger @Choux Thank you, that's helpful to know. I'm 100% going into this as a reset, a chance to have the space to eat healthy and exercise more without the constant food noise. I guess because I've failed so many times before I'm having doubts that I have it in me to stay on track. That's assuming it doesn't suppress my appetite sufficiently, which I'm too early into it to know. So far it seems to have helped and I've been making sure I reach for good food.

TheRoseShaker · 27/08/2024 08:30

BMI 24.9 today!!! So so happy!

Fromthesidelines · 27/08/2024 09:01

Congrats @TheRoseShaker and all those celebrating.

I have finally hit the 2 stone loss! That also happens to be exactly halfway to the top of a healthy BMI.

It has taken 13 weeks and I'm on my 4th 7.5. Going to take the bonus dose and then move up to 10. Side effects are still minimal and I'm getting quite hungry towards the end of the week.

There has been research recently that shows that MJ might also speed up metabolism. Also believe it helps reduce insulin resistance.

I weighed myself this morning and thought I would do a quick update.

Start (9th August). 17st 4lb
Today's ( 27th Aug). 16. 6 lb

My weight has been very up and down as I had a horrific stomach bug. But I've been eating fine for the last 3-4 days and have "refilled" my digestive tract thank God. Going to order my next pen in a day or two .

Onwards and upwards.

dmott · 27/08/2024 09:53

I'm in a bit of a rut with Mounjaro at the minute I suspect it's due to hitting a low weight that feels good and then life happening periods and what have meaning a lack of loss.

Previous weight loss attempts would have failed here but I'm still trudging along.

Part of my brain feels the fear of watching a car crash when the weight loss isn't linear like I'm constantly expecting to fail.

Does anyone else feel that when stalls happen?.

Logically I can see even though the past month has been bumpy it's still going well but the stark difference of last month and the previous is discouraging.

@TheRoseShaker how bad were your achy legs? I have a 'bad' knee and this is really hurting as well as my legs. I'm actually quite worried how much my knee hurts.

SnacklessWonder · 27/08/2024 11:07

I keep having episodes of 4-7 days of weight not moving which is so frustrating when you know you are eating in a deficit. (A fitness coach on Tiktok told me I wasn't eating in a deficit and I wasn't being honest with myself...literally tracking the milk in my tea, I KNOW I am in a deficit). But I am trying to trust the process and regardless I feel better for not eating loads of carbs and drinking alcohol. However I am frustrated because Mounjaro is costing me £150 and I could have managed the same with just calorie counting quite honestly! Moving up to 5mg in two weeks so will see if that has an impact.

I find my legs very tired and achey when I go up a dose and then it seems to clear. Gone up to 7.5ml this week and it's floored me. I'm shattered. I've lost 1st 8lb in three months (I'm a short arse) so happy with that. Small NSV this morning when I put on my winter dog walking raincoat that I couldn't easily zip up in spring now zips up with ease and if I breathe in can get a fleece on underneath!

CelestialNexus · 27/08/2024 11:53

I did an order with My Juniper £135 for Mounjaro, went through the process, and then they sent me a message saying they wanted £189 for Wegovy, and if I wanted Mounjaro it would be £209

I replied saying their costs were wrong, so they then "Reviewed my information and unfortunately Jumiper-UK isnt the right fit for you today."

I have fibromyalgia so lots of aches and pains, but they felt more heavy than anything, like when you have flu and can't move. I noticed it more when I didn't eat much, so I do try to keep my intake up. I also take turmeric supplements from Nutrition Geeks (amongst many other things) and I think they are starting to help
