Hello,
Yesterday morning was my first dose of 5 ml and I feel so sleepy and hungover will this get better or will I need to reduce my clicks on the next dose. I had no side effect with the 2.5 ml and lost 11.5 lbs in that 4 week period.

The move up to 5mg effectively doubles the dose and this is the point where some people get side effects for the first time. I got fatigued a bit like you describe but it did improve as I got used to the dose.

Lastchancefatty · 26/08/2024 13:17

For anyone fearing 5mg I had zero side effects apart from very low level nausea and aversion to certain foods. However it's quickly worn off and I'm ready for 7.5 now. No one can tell you how your body will react but for everyone that has bad unwanted effects there will be several that have nothing or very manageable side effects.

Lastchancefatty · 26/08/2024 12:57

I refuse it too. No way do I want to end up that way. My mums decline in health has probably happened over a long period but boy has it been fast moving since she hit 60. Virtually disabled now at 65 because she would never take her health seriously enough to really try to shift the weight or listen to any medical advice...... because she knows best of course. I'm not going there ever. I couldn't live like she's now having to. It's certainly been the warning I needed. I also have PCOS so I honestly don't know how I could have done it without the jabs. They've made a huge difference to my physical ability to lose weight and although I am not a fast looser by any means, I'm no longer living that cycle of lose 1lb - gain 4lb, lose 2lb - gain 3lb, go on holiday and gain 11lb, Go out for dinner once, gain 3lb.... over and over. It's liberating and nice to not be afraid of the scales!

@Lastchancefatty It really does feel life changing doesn't it. To go from eating all my feelings and emotions on a daily basis, to actually having control and restraint over the food I eat. Not to be thinking about food all day.

Have you found any effects on hormones / periods since starting MJ? I have read comments on here reporting changes to cycles, being a bit all over the place. Obviously with pcos my cycle was already all over the place, but incidentally today I have gotten my period and thats an exact 30 day cycle! Something that hasnt happened since before I had my son 12 years ago. I have definitely noticed a calm in my anxiety and hormonal emotions in the lead up to this period. In fact I have noticed a huge difference day to in my moods / anxiety, weather that is actually the MJ or the postive effects of having lost weight I dont know. Im not one of lifes positive thinkers, I have always been a bit of a pessimist ( another trait I learnt from my mum) but I have noticed since MJ that I actually am able to find positives!

I've also just ordered 7.5, keen to start but I've got one week left of 5mg plus my bonus dose which I refuse to waste!

Ifyounevergiveup · 26/08/2024 13:48

@Jimmyneutronsforehead first and most importantly, 🌞🌞🌞! Secondly, thank you for your post. I’m on my fourth 5mg jab and have only just started feeling any effect, so your info was really useful if I’m to hope to avoid repeating the experience of sulphur from both ends and slurry from one of them. Yuck. So only eat a little, stop before you’re full, don’t drink a lot at the same as eating. Any more tips, anyone? Particularly interested in the recent comments about parallels with bariatric diets. More info from clinicians in our tribe would be cool, if anyone has the time!

CandiedPrincess · 26/08/2024 14:11

@Pinkyp22 I am on the mini pill and haven't had any bleeding in two years - until last week! So it's definitely affected things for me.

bantum · 26/08/2024 16:59

@FarriersGirl
Thanks, I really hope i can get used to it

Pinkyp22 · 26/08/2024 17:33

I ordered a 7.5 pen yesterday for the first time with medexpress
Just had an email to say its been prescribed and will be dispatched within one working day! So far so good

GoodLuckBabe · 26/08/2024 17:34

Afternoon all, well done on the losses and welcome to the newbies. I am on my fifth week of MJ and feeling so hopeful that this is the time I manage to shift some serious weight. I have around 6 stone to lose before I get close to a ‘healthy BMI’. Actually just over 5 as (can’t quite believe it) I have already lost 12lb!!!
I have a question for any wise science-y posters - do we increase the dose because our bodies get used to the MJ and we need a bigger dose to feel the same effect? Or is it that we get more benefits/stronger suppression the higher we go? Just curious… Tia

JamieFrasersSassenach · 26/08/2024 19:23

Hi all,

I'm looking to double check something please? I'm going to use an insulin needle/syringe to get the bonus dose from my 2.5mg pen.

I've looked at the chart that @ObsidianTree had provided on previous threads - am I right in thinking it's 2.5mg is 0.60ml please?

I'm hoping to get at least that much out of my pen - if there is any more I'll take that as well to help with the jump to 5mg next week (which I'm feeling quite nervous about already!!)

Thanks in advance.

freemyboobs · 26/08/2024 19:28

@JamieFrasersSassenach yep that's right

QueenOfHiraeth · 26/08/2024 19:32

To all of those who have suffered from their mothers' insecurities around weight - solidarity sisters! Grin

I am now in my 60s and still battling my weight and the memories of being taken to doctors to query why I was that weight along with the humiliation of weighings and general fat-shaming at school. My mother is now in her 90s and still totally unaware of her own issues although now too frail and unwell to discuss it as it would upset her. I now have adult DDs, one of whom has real issues around food, and I worry that I have passed that to her so am doing my very best to set healthy examples to my grandchildren

supadupapupascupa · 26/08/2024 19:47

I think I'm going to have to move my jab forward. I'm due to take jab 3 of 2.5mg tomorrow evening but all I can think about is the cheesecake in the fridge and all the crisps, chocolate fingers and mini rolls somewhere hidden in the kitchen. This is the first time I've had the good noise. Actually I've struggled to keep my calories up!
My weigh day is Monday morning so I think I will take the next dose in the morning, and the 4th dose on a Monday. Might as well match weigh day to jab day!

SW 19st 12
CW 19st 6
6lb in two weeks I'm very happy with!

Hi everyone- hope everyone is doing ok! I wanted to ask what everyone’s opinion would be- I’ve not got long to decide but I was debating if to take my first ever injection tonight or leave it until tomorrow. I had a good few drinks yesterday (me and my partner decided to have a “last hurrah” of good food and drinks as I don’t suppose I will be able to partake much going forward!) and whilst I feel ok today, I probably haven’t made the best food choices and I’m probably not 100% so not sure if I should delay until tomorrow? I know it’s very trivial in the grand scheme of things but I don’t know if it’s just my nerves making me delay it or it makes sense. Any opinions welcome!

Do it tomorrow, just so you don’t risk an upset stomach/nausea.

QueenOfHiraeth · 26/08/2024 19:55

@Ifyounevergiveup I think I mentioned the similarity between slowed gastric transit in MJ and the gastric band patients. The eating advice we used to give them was:

  • Eat 3 small regular meals and 2 snacks
  • Prioritise protein
  • For a meal, eat off a side plate and try to make half the plate veg or salad, the other half protein or protein+carbs
  • Try to make meals and snacks textured or crunchy so, e.g. chicken stir fry will make your brain feel fuller than chicken curry & rice as the latter is softer and slides down easier because of the sauce. Carrots and hummus or fruit with peanut butter or a few almonds is a better snack than biscuits, bread, yoghurt, etc for the same reason
  • Do not drink before meals, with meals or for 20mins after as this dilutes gastric contents and washes it through the stomach and reduces fullness
  • Follow the 20-20-20 rule. Food on the fork should not exceed the size of a 20p piece, chew each mouthful 20x before swallowing, if there is food left on your plate after 20 minutes leave it.
That's all I can remember of the "rules" and they are mostly band related as the sleeve and bypass tended to reduce the urge to eat in the early stages if I remember correctly. I think it is different though as MJ does not cause any physical restriction but I am wondering if trying to follow those rules might help me on the way
JamieFrasersSassenach · 26/08/2024 19:59

Thank you @freemyboobs !!

Oh that’s the burn right there; having had very effective counselling (literally only took one session, I’m embarrassingly transparent) the psychologist asked me if I was going to talk it all through with my parents. And to a certain extent (largely caused by the rage washing over me at the time) I was sorely tempted. But what’s the point of berating two people in their late 80s for a neglect which they wouldn’t even recognise, never mind acknowledge? So we have to swallow that along with everything else; there’s an irony, if you like. Fwiw I don’t think you’ll have passed anything on. It’s damaged us far too much for that to happen. Big love.

Ifyounevergiveup · 26/08/2024 20:21

@QueenOfHiraeth oops; and thank you so much for the food info, it all sounds extremely sensible and also extremely challenging in terms of developing new habits! This is turning into quite the journey!

QueenOfHiraeth · 26/08/2024 20:33

@Ifyounevergiveup Thank you for your kind words. DD is adamant that I have not affected her food issues, she says that I gave her a good example that you could have a happy and fulfilling life at any weight even if you still wished you were thinner. She thinks her problems are more related to school (with hindsight, very competitive and high rate of eating disorders) but, as mothers, we still worry - it's in the job description!

I used to feel quite sorry for the bariatric patients as they had to put in so much work yet the media and the public all thought it was effortless cheating. Who knew I'd be in the same boat one day?!

Rorpethy · 26/08/2024 20:45

Hi all, I'm day 2, week 1 and my legs are aching so so bad! Has anyone else experienced this?

Ifyounevergiveup · 26/08/2024 20:46

@QueenOfHiraeth some mothers appear to have created a totally different job description! - but your dd seems to have one of the good ones, evidenced by the help and support you give everyone on this thread!

doingitthistime · 26/08/2024 21:16

First post but been lurking and learning.
8 weeks in, 6 x 2.5 2 x 3.75, 21lb down. Really pleased as minimal side effects and steady loss.
I have a Zava code for a new user if required.

MounjaroMunchie · 26/08/2024 21:20

Just to follow up on @QueenOfHiraeth post, I had a gastric bypass 4 years ago and that is the exact advice I was given, and still follow today. Well, almost - the 20/20/20 thing probably lasted about a year!

I didn't regain any weight after my surgery, but I did that typical bariatric patient thing of losing a good chunk of weight, then falling pregnant! I continued to lose throughout my pregnancy but was very poorly towards the end with various problems, had a horrendous birth where me and my son both almost died, and then a shocking recovery. And until I started MJ, my weight was static from about 2 months post-partum. No gains, but no losses either. No change in what I was eating, or how much - I really believe that MJ has given my metabolism a good kick up the backside for me to start losing again.

My surgeon showed me this video to hammer home the importance of not drinking during or immediately after meals, which was one of the tips in @QueenOfHiraeth post above.

I used to give the advice but really don't know how people eat without drinking though. From being a child we always had a big mug of tea with every meal and I really struggle to eat without it.
I think I need to set myself a challenge to change my habit of doing that.

My mum drinks tea with a meal and I’ve always thought it was really odd 😁. Hot drink with hot food?!
Having said that I really struggle to eat without a glass of water.
