Question. I need to order my second pen this week. How do I KNOW whether to move up to 5mg or not? Everyone says 2.5mg is not a therapeutic dose so why would I stay on it? I do have food suppression though I am still feeling really hungry all the time, and I am losing (7.6lb in 13 days - official two week weigh-in tomorrow morning).

I thought I might stay on 2.5 but by the 4 weeks the appetite supression was definitely not what it was, and weight loas had stalled so I was sure I was ready to go up to 5mg.
The 5 mg has been ok for me, and I've had the same dilemma about possibly staying on 5 or go up to 7.5. Weight loss is still very slow even though the appetite supression is still good, again it is definitely less than 3 weeks ago ( I took injection 3 from the 5mg pen Friday). So based on that I have just bought my next pen 7.5mg.
Its really hard to know whether or not to go up. I think I am going to keep basing it on the level of suppression for now. Hopefully 7.5 is a sticker for me

Ifyounevergiveup · 25/08/2024 20:12

@SnacklessWonder I don’t understand! How can you have suppression and still feel really hungry?

Not a dig; I have very few side effects so I’m always keen to learn!

CandiedPrincess · 25/08/2024 20:17

@Ifyounevergiveup because I'm hungry all the time, feeling the hunger pangs but I'm indifferent to food so can easily ignore the hunger, and full up really quickly. I do wish the hungry feeling would go away but it doesn't distract me like it did before. I can ignore it now whereas it drove me insane before.

@Eyf I have never heard anything about previous bariatric surgery being an issue. Do you know what their issue is? I know a medic who has had sleeve surgery and has used Ozempic since before it was available for weight loss here, so several years, with no problems.
I did a training course on bariatrics years ago and it has struck me, more than once, the similarities between eating on GLP1s and how we used to advise the gastric band patients to eat back in the day.

I messaged them about it and they said it’s because they feel bariatric patients MAY need more help with weight loss!? I didn’t understand it to be fair! Made no sense to me.

I lost the majority of my weight through a gastric sleeve but put on some weight after my last unplanned surprise pregnancy.

This is a huge help!

I don’t think some people realise you can gain weight after bariatric surgery either!

Currently at the start of week 11 and am on start of 2nd 5mg pen (and have been loosing nice and steadily)...at the moment I can't imagine going up to 7.5mg as I'm currently only just managing to eat enough so probs right at the sweet spot of suppression.

Only problem is I ordered a 7.5mg a week or so ago 🙈

Think I'm going to have to order another 5mg as I don't think I would be able to eat enough on 7.5mg.

It's really odd the last two weeks I've felt the effects really strongly I think I'm definitely getting the effects of the meds building up in myself system.

I am currently with med express but think I might switch to Oushk ...does anyone know what the delivery is like with them ?

I’ve used Oushk for my last 2 pens, you can select either RM or DPD, and you choose the specific day you want delivery on as well. If you choose DPD they use a PIN code so you either need to be in or have a specific neighbour nominated to receive it for you. I like it because I schedule it for a day I know I’m WFH. Because you can select a future date too, if they do a sale code you can take advantage of it and schedule your delivery for say 4 weeks in advance.

ItsAlrightDarling · 25/08/2024 19:04

I felt exactly the same at the start of my second 5mg pen (I even went back down to 3.75mg for a bit as the suppression was so strong) but 2-3 weeks into that pen the effects definitely started to wear off and I did end up going to 7.5mg.

I've just put in an order for 5mg with Oushk ...so I will at least have options then I can decide if I'm still fine on 5mg or if I need 7.5mg ...I think i might do a third month at 5mg anyway a bit more hunger /less suppression will be good practice for maintenance!

I had actually placed an order with Oushk and selected a delivery date not long after posting ...it seems they offer a great service !

Oo I’ve just seen a MJ user on TikTok say that providers can now provide indefinitely with maintenance doses, apparently the two year rule has been scrapped?

That is true! I actually ordered a 3rd 5mg pen but it’s still in my fridge so I am planning to use it to titrate down when I’ve hit goal.

Oh I get it, it’s like it’s numbed. That’s interesting!

MelainesLaugh · 25/08/2024 21:09

I’m only on week one, I’ve got around 6 stone to lose. I stupidly bought two 2.5mg pens, at the end of the four weeks could I take two doses of 2.5mg then get a 5mg pen?

You could, it’s just not the most cost efficient way of doing it!

MooFroo · 25/08/2024 21:29

Anyone tried to cancel on VOY and used the 30% discount that they offer as an incentive to stay?

did 4th week jab of 2.5mg on Saturday and have the bonus jab to use next week. Need to order 5mg and just easier to stick with Voy. Not lost much in first month so hoping next month makes a bigger impact!

QueenOfHiraeth · 25/08/2024 21:35

@Eyf I see many similarities with this and bariatrics. The slowing of gastric emptying is similar to a gastric band so many of the eating guidelines for the band are useful with MJ too. The metabolic effects and reduction in appetite have some similarities with the gastric sleeve too.
The biggest similarity is that people who don't understand both think they are either cheating or a miracle cure that does not require mental hard work and changes to eating! I think as many as 50% of bariatric patients regain so it would seem logical to try GLP1s

Ignore what 'they' say, 2.5mg is wonderful for many of us!

That being said, you've answered your own question. You're still really hungry so it's time to move up. At least there's nothing to say you have to take the full 5mg if it doesn't agree with you.

2.5mg was wonderful for me with no side effects (well just feeling cold), but I decided to get 5mg since it's the same price and I was afraid 2.5 would stop working.

I used the 3mg in my bonus dose and felt awful. Have used 4 doses now from my 5mg pen and highest I have taken is 3.75mg and I expect to continue on that for a while as still getting excellent suppression (too much maybe).

I've my next 5mg ready for me in the fridge.

Weigh Day for me:

SW: 22st 11.8lbs
CW: 20st 1.8lbs
GW: 14st 10 (for now)

6lbs off this week for me! Can’t believe it! I was on holiday the week before and gained so some of that will be reduced bloating but I’m still really chuffed! I’ve pre-ordered a 7.5 for my next pen, I’m on my second month of 5, but I do continue with suppression right up until it’s time for the new jab so I’m starting to wonder if I’ve made a mistake and should have ordered another 5!

Also, what is going on with that big MJ Facebook group being deleted then reappearing all the time 😂 I might just leave it all together, this group is much more useful anyway!

We are at the same point and same weight. You started at my heaviest weight but I had got 10lb of it off before MJ. We also have the same target.... are you me? 🤔😁

Alwayshockey · 26/08/2024 08:06

Is anyone here with Boots? I know they're one of the more expensive but I'm thinking of switching to them because of being able to collect it from a pharmacy (Asda is too far for me) and know that it's been stored at an appropriate temperature and I don't have to worry about missing a courier.

I'm wondering things like is it easy to switch to them, what kind of proof do they want of BMI (mine is about 38 so qualifies easily but current provider were difficult about my photos initially), will they honour the level I'm at or make me go back to 2.5, do you just go to the counter and give your name to collect, and is the box big as I walk there and would have to carry it home.

Thanks

SnacklessWonder · 26/08/2024 08:15

Official weigh day for me. Did 3rd 2.5mg last night. 2lb off this week.

SW: 11st 7.8lb
CW: 11st 0.2lb
GW: 9st 4.0lb

So 7.6lb loss in two weeks. I'd like it to be more, but trying to be realistic that 7.6lb is quite a good chunk of my overall goal and 2lb loss a week is good, but can't lie I was hoping to tip into the 10st bracket today.

Made the decision that I will move up and order the 5mg pen and lower the dose if it feels too much. I do feel that I could lose the 2lb a week without MJ as I have done in the past so will see how I get on over the next month or so.

That's good to hear. Hopefully more providers will scrap that stop at BMI 25 nonsense soon!

HelloHello321 · 26/08/2024 08:47

End of week 1.
First injected before bed and had a terrible nights sleep first night.
Slight headache first couple of days, probably tiredness related.
Incredibly high suppression first 2 days that it was actually difficult to eat.
Good suppression all week.
I've been eating pretty much clean all week
Start weight: 13.2
Current weight: 12.9
So 7lb lost!

I was due second jab yesterday but I've still got such good suppression, I'm thinking I might do it every 10 days. I would still get the 4 doses within the 30 days from opening. Wasn't keen on doing the bonus dose anyway.

Has anyone done this on leaving longer between doses?

Not used boots but I know with Oushk you can pick exact day of delivery and have the option of DPD and Royal Mail so you have a lot of control. Their prices are quite competitive too.

Also if you’re around Manchester you are able to collect in person.

Maybe worth looking at some of the other pharmacies and if they offer collection around where you live?

Did my third dose of 2.5mg last night and I am RAVENOUS today, hungriest I've been since I started. Today is going to be a tough day.

If you’re hungry, have a decent meal and see how you feel afterwards. The aim of MJ isn’t to never feel hungry, it’s completely normal to be hungry.
