Oooh I'm just picking up my first pen tomorrow. Any tips?

Read all the instructions on the leaflet as to how to use the pen! If in doubt, watch the video about how to prep and use it.

Read all the threads in this section and you'll find lots of useful information and support.

Read, read, read - do a deep deep dive into these drugs and threads so you know what you’re doing - and find or start an august newbies thread so you have peers to support you. That is vital IMO.

I've not caught up yet with this new thread. We got a ring doorbell and dog cam at the weekend and omg I'm horrific, I'm so fat, I was standing at the front door looking at the position of the camera and all I could focus on was this big baw face! If I wasn't already motivated and focused to lose this weight, I'm going for it now! X

Baw face made me laugh. Such a Scottish expression!

Hello all! Congratulations on all of the loses and NSVs, and solidarity with my fellow stallers.

A few random thoughts:

Really interesting to hear how MJ is either improving or disrupting sleep for people. I used to have atrocious insomnia, years and years of waking at 2am for hours and hours on end. The minute I took MJ it improved, I can sleep right through the night now. Utterly game changing.

I know this is going to sound odd, but does anybody else miss the cold feet side effect? I actually really liked the feeling. Sad that it's gone.

I moved to Family Chemist two pens ago. So far so good. Sensible pricing without having to scrabble for discount codes (my recent 10mg pen including delivery was £170). Easy and quick service, delivery has been on time and very cold, zero issues so far.

The only thing to be aware of is that they don't include wipes and needles. But as you can buy bulk on their site it doesn't matter (a box of 100 good quality needles is under £5), I much prefer having extra needles to hand without having to worry about whether I'll have a spare for my bonus dose. Plus I used an opening discount code that covered the cost of needles and wipes.

Have to say that I did notice loss of potency from 2nd injection onward of my "warm pen". I had to top it up.
I also think that Eli lily have no idea what condition pens have been in.
Just because the weather forecast says the daily temperature was say 14degrees, that doesn't mean the pen is has been at 14 degrees. The pen has been in transit, it could have been sitting in a warehouse which was warmer than outside, it could have sat in a post office van with the sun beating down. I feel this is a total cop out by both the pharmacy's and lily.

If they recommend cold delivery then cold delivery is the very least you should expect at 200quid a pop.

Hmmm interesting! thanks for sharing this!

For me, those 3 days that the medicine was traveling/sat in depot, the hot weather had just lifted, so I know it wouldn’t have been more than 25-ish C. I did tell them 27 C for the assessment just to have a little buffer. Also, while ME have taken their sweet time with all my orders, they have always arrived cold with the ice packs, so I truly believe it was cold on Friday, and only warm on the weekend (less than 48 h), but again, have told them for the purpose of assessment- 60 h, just to have that buffer again.

All that being said, because I kicked up a fuss with ME, yesterday got an email they’re sending me a complimentary replacement pen. So, I guess I’ll have two now. Saves me another £170. 🤫😄

3wDavid · 08/08/2024 06:18

Also. Thursday is my official weigh day.

2 lbs down this week, and officially (just) hit my first big goal: 90 kg (I was 90.7 when this morning!).

SilverHeels · 08/08/2024 06:28

Good morning. Having a stall week and finding it hard to not get annoyed at myself even though I know it’s normal and will shift at some point.

I think some of it is that my brain can’t compute that I may lose more weight. I am 53 and am at the lowest weight I have ever achieved since 6th form so I don’t know what it means to be lighter than I am now.

I am on week 3 of 7.5mg and have lost 34lb so am delighted and feeling amazing but that automatic weight / mood co dependence is hard to leave behind. I know I will lose more but my emotional response says different.

Needtostartover · 08/08/2024 06:41

Hello everyone
Thank you all for these informative threads.

I was away last week but just before going I’d decided I wanted to give this a go (and started researching/reading the previous threads). Yesterday morning (before 08:00) I placed an order with The Care Pharmacy. I had a couple of questions and submitted them through the chat option and was surprised to get an immediate response. Anyway my order was accepted and I’m due my delivery today before 13:00 🤞. I ordered the two pen starter kit option (2.5 mg + 5mg). If they arrive as expected I shall be having my first injection later today.
Excited to hopefully get results like many of you. Life long dieter (been anywhere from a size 8 to a generous size 16). I’m a little over 5ft so extra pounds really show.

Tireduk · 08/08/2024 07:27

Any advice please if anyone has tested extending their pens past the 30 days, although I know officially EL state it looses efficacy. My next pen due to be taken on Saturday is an increase to 7.5 from 5, however I’m finding my food suppression is quite high so now wondering , feeling ok, so I could do less clicks and either stay at 5mg or maybe 6? However this will then take the pen over the 30 days as I don’t want to waste it and it is costly… anyone tried this??

Great to hear all the losses and the slow losses, stalls, keep at it and well done to everyone!

@tireduk I used my first 5mg pen for 7 injections so that was 42 days from the first use. I know this is not recommended but I didn't feel the need to go up to 5mg. There was no issue and the last week felt the same as the first. I'm on my 2nd 5mg pen now and will probably use it for 6 weeks this time because I'm doing 4mg doses.

Smallsalt · 08/08/2024 07:38

@3wDavid That's excellent that they caved in.

MountKilimounjaro · 08/08/2024 08:19

@SilverHeels congratulations on the incredible loss.

You say that your mind is finding it hard to adjust to the weight loss, your body is having a similar reaction. It just needs time to get used to the new normal.

More weight will come off and all the work you're doing now will catch up, just give your body time to settle before it carries on the race.

You're so right about mood/weight codependence being so hard to let go of.

We're all achieving a lot in a relatively short space of time, it's physically and mentally really hard work.

Callmejudith · 08/08/2024 08:27

Incredible losses and nsv on here well done all

NewLifter · 08/08/2024 08:28

Hi everyone, I haven't posted in a few days as away on holiday. Been feeling really good, eating the same as I would at home really (self catering helps!). Hiking loads but missing my usual gym workouts and spin classes. I did bring exercise equipment so doing a bit to at least maintain the strength side of things (don't want the dreaded DOMS on my return!).

No scales to weigh in and won't be using any in chemists etc as would mean nothing (I weigh in first think in just my underwear usually 😂). My next weigh in will be three weeks after the previous, so hoping for a good result 🙈 I can see a difference in pics definitely but no one else has noticed my weight loss still (I think this may be because I gained this chunk of weight very quickly, after being a certain size for a very long time).

Injection day today and in the end went for 3.75mg again, really hoping I don't regret it after my previous gastric side effects. But I'm hoping my body will get used to it...

SilverHeels · 08/08/2024 08:30

@MountKilimounjaro thank you so much you are right. I needed a good talking to. The support here is amazing and I appreciate it very much.

Weight is such an emotional issue for most of us and our self esteem is so intertwined.

If only we all just had learned to eat less and moved more 🤔.

littlebitfat · 08/08/2024 08:31

Started 2 days ago after much debate with myself.
I was too scared to weigh myself and thought my starting weight would be around 12 stone but it was actually 10 stone 13lb.
BMI still over 30 as I'm only 150cm.

Felt a bit sick with a racing heart the first morning after I took it, but it went as soon as I had a small breakfast and hasn't returned.

I'm counting all calories I eat. Strangely i haven't crave Coke Zero which has been nice and I'm sure my body will thank me for it!

Great reading about all your losses :)

I've been counting clicks on my 5mg pen due to side effects after my 'bonus dose' so I will be in the same boat. To be honest, I probably too will chance taking an additional dose to use up some of the leftovers (not sure I will finish the pen still, might do one extra dose just).

I'm on holiday so my pen isn't in the fridge which would deter me using it too long.

Someone else said they're using a smaller dose every 6 days so I may end up doing that as my suppression isn't lasting beyond 4 days, though I do feel extreme guilt at not following the prescribed path 🙈

I'm hoping my side effects reduce so I can take the bloody thing normally 😂 if side effects continue, I'm going to stop the treatment so extending the pen time will buy me a bit more time to make that decision too, before ordering another.

MountKilimounjaro · 08/08/2024 08:41

@SilverHeels gosh yes, if only someone had thought to mention eating less and moving more. 😂

I'm good at giving pep talks on stalls but very bad at taking my own advice!

Time is going to pass no matter what you do, so you might as well keep plodding onwards...and before you know it the odd half a pound here and there will suddenly be another stone gone.

Tireduk · 08/08/2024 08:42

@Vamozz and @NewLifter Thanks, I’m going to test it out. The pen arrived cool and has been in the fridge and let’s be honest, why would it immediately stop working after 30 days, but might be less efficient. I’m going to try and see how I feel… Thank you!

This really is such an amazing and informative thread, most supportive I've ever encountered on MN and I've been around a good 15 years!

OG peep ; Obsidian, cider, flappy fish, slimming star, etc and others of course - you've made this thread what is so I hope you're very proud. Sorry for everyone I missed, those names just always stand out to me.

You've helped so many of us to bite the bullet and give this life changing drug a go!

Thebaldprimadonna · 08/08/2024 08:49

Weighed in yesterday and I was a pound off three stones off, but I am very happy this morning as it's now come off.

My BMI was just into the 35+ range when I started and it's now 28. My prediabetes is a distant memory. I have a waist! Still a good way to go (short in height) but I feel 1,000 times better than I did in March.

Thanks for everyone's support. It makes such a difference.

Thank you. I remember poring over the US forums back in February when I was building up the courage to try Mounjaro.

It's been a great decision for me and I hope you'll feel the same 😁
