I've just had a bit of a lightbulb moment around iron levels.

I suffer from pernicious anaemia so have B12 injections every three months. This month I'm late getting my injection and have started to have my usual symptoms of iron deficiency (used to get these pre MJ so not MJ related)...I suddenly realised I'm seeing people describe these same symptoms as side effects of Mounjaro.

Which made me think, are we dismissing some things as MJ side effects that are actually nutrition based?

Anxiety is a BIG iron deficiency symptom for me, as is fatigue and headaches. So if you're suffering from any of these perhaps it's worth checking in your iron and B12 levels are ok?

Eggs, dried apricots, almonds, beans, lentils, dark chocolate and yogurt are some of my favourite iron snacks.

Prunes are good too, so a bowl of yoghurt and prunes will help protein targets, iron levels and bowel movements all in one go. A triple whammy!

MountKilimounjaro · 12/08/2024 13:08

Oh wait! Ignore my comment on yoghurt above. Posted without thinking.

Prunes are definitely good for iron (and bowel movements), but yoghurt actually inhibits iron absorption. I have so many lists of things I need to eat more of I hadn't clocked this was on my iron list as a 'don't mix' ingredient.

Yes a lot of the comments remind me of how I feel when I've not taken my vitamins for a few days

MountKilimounjaro · 12/08/2024 13:22

@NeedSomeAnswersPlease I never think supplements are working until I stop taking them and realise I feel sluggish and 'off'.

I've been so focussed on my protein levels I've definitely let my iron focus slip.

I think I've got stuck in a rut with food recently and need to have a shake up of what I'm eating again.

I take them every night and think "really? What is the point?" Then things like me forgetting to pack them in a trip away happen and I remember why I take them!

SilverHeels · 12/08/2024 14:03

Does anyone know the cheapest place to buy ready made Huel ?

I know it’s not the healthiest but I have food intolerances and find it useful for the odd day in the office and when travelling.

I see Holland and Barrett have 20% off over a certain amount but wondered if I am missing a deal somewhere else

Thank you all for the exercise suggestions :) esp about Lucy and hee walking videos!!

I had my 2.5mg from MedExpress and want to order my 5mg with them. They're currently charging £149.99, I know they do price match, does anyone know of a pharmacy selling 5mg for less please.

Cloud Pharmacy 138.99 for a 5mg pen

2nd dose 5mg has broken me. I’ve been constantly nauseous all day and vomiting first thing in the morning since Friday and haven’t eaten more than 300cal since then. Currently trying to stay hydrated and drinking lucozade to get some energy in. Am I just waiting for it to wear off by Wednesday/Thursday?
The first 5mg dose was no problem at all!

I had this after my second dose of 5mg, just like you first dose was fine but the second dose nearly finished me off, by day 5 I was at the gp who then sent me to A&E to rule out pancreatitis. Thankfully it was just the mounjaro being too damn effective. The doctor said that I was a super responder to it which apparently can be a thing. So I skipped a week and then went back down to 2.5mg for 3 weeks before titrating up to 3mg for a few weeks then 3.75mg and now I'm on 4mg. Not everyone needs to be on the higher doses for it to be effective. Hope you start feeling better soon. For me I started to feel better on day 6 after the jab.

CautiousLurker · 12/08/2024 15:30

Fed up. Had a lovely woosh of loss after a plateau, then inexplicably gained 3lbs. 12 days later and it is not going.

Am drinking more - admittedly struggling to get 2L but forcing myself; am not over eating; am not undereating; am moving as much as usual; am not bunged up (anymore). Just plateauing on the same higher amount. Increased MJ yesterday from 10mg to 12.5 dose but if the weight doesn’t start to shift I will have a major temper tantrum.

Thing is, I am sure that I can see that I’ve lost weight/got slimmer in the last 2 weeks …are my scales just fucking with me?

😭

I’ll tell you something you won’t want to hear but really really really try to up that water. Aim for 2.5 l. Add some cucumber slices or mint or slices of peach or strawberry in it if that makes it feel any nicer for you. Especially with the hot weather we’re experiencing now. Electrolytes might be a good idea too. I think, if you know you’re eating well, and you see a difference(just not on the scale), the water will help get you over that “plateau”.

Ifyounevergiveup · 12/08/2024 16:19

@CautiousLurker come on Cautious! They are so fucking with you! You know you haven’t eaten enough to have gained 3lb. Throw loads of hissy fits and blame the hot weather. You KNOW it’ll come off again as mysteriously as it arrived! Big love!

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 12/08/2024 16:19

Reached 103.95 today, and also managed 8 hours of sleep but feel more tired than ever today.

It's been at least 7 years since I last saw 103kg, so I'm happy.

I have been unintentionally just doing one meal a day for the past week so I think I do need to split that into 2 or 3 smaller meals consciously and I'm terrible for remembering any supplements so I think I ought to try and get some more red meat into my diet too.

@3wDavid and @Ifyounevergiveup thank you - I think you’re right it’s the water thing. For some reason I also retain fluid in hot weather, but that may also be due to not drinking enough. I have to confess the only liquid I used to drink before this diet was a couple of cups of coffee and wine. Only drank water if needed to take pills!

I have no idea why I have such an aversion to drinking - actually, it might be because of postnatal continence issues due to my now 6ft3 boy as he decimated my pelvic floor. It has required surgery that wasn’t terribly successful, but I think it’s made me stop drinking for fear of accidents. Think I may just have to put my extra strength tenalady pants on and get guzzling.

I have some rather rank electrolyte sachets that I just picked up at Boots so will see if they help. At least the meds mean I can’t binge or have a food tantrum!

VioletsHeart · 12/08/2024 17:15

@CautiousLurker
may I add one more nugget of wisdom earned the hard way (so you don’t have to)? Electrolyte sachets are great if you are in fact low on them. If however you are not, or if you take too many they will make you swell up and retain all the water. 💦
Early in my journey I had not found this lovely space and was instead lurking on the US MJ Reddit boards. They all seem to be obsessed with electrolytes, often taking daily. And when I was feeling Uber nauseous in the early weeks I took a couple of boots sachets in the hope it would help … and ended up with epic sausage fingers and a 3lb water weight gain over night. I was deeply unimpressed. I was of course also still nauseous.

CautiousLurker · 12/08/2024 17:20

@VioletsHeart 🤯

might just up the water for a few days first then!!

Ifyounevergiveup · 12/08/2024 17:38

@CautiousLurker have to say (in all seriousness!) Tena lights sensitive are a stroke of bloody genius once little pantyliners aren’t enough any more…! Icky but true, from one who drinks a lot (not booze but loads of everything else!)

Agree. The hot weather plays havoc with my weight loss I stayed the same for over 2 weeks then had a small gain had then had a whoosh as soon as the weather cooled down. If I weigh tomorrow I can almost guarantee it either won't have budged or I would have gone up. Stay positive @CautiousLurker

3wDavid · 12/08/2024 18:23

just to add re water, and I know how idiotic this may sound, but hear me out: the receptacle you choose to drink out of, makes all the difference! I swear it tastes better out of a nice bottle/tumbler! I found my latest one from HomeSense/TK Maxx - they have such great variety and at great prices! Might be worth picking up a bottle/cup you like that will keep it nice and cool for you! There’s also some nice motivational ones which I’ve seen on amazon and are pretty cute (and functional!) too!

re electrolytes, I have found mine on amazon and have been taking them daily-ish for the past 2+ months. They’re called Revive something (sachets) and taste really nice. For me, I drink them after workout or sauna to replenish all the things I’ve sweated out. When the weather is extra hot like today, I may drink even 2 sachets spread out during the day, in addition to my normal water. Never had any negative effects from them, if anything they really do make me feel quite refreshed/hydrated, and I (weirdly) really enjoy the taste. I rate the watermelon and the cherry, in particular!

DreamingofGinoclock · 12/08/2024 18:25

Today I was in A+E as I have done something to my knee (still no idea what's wrong but hey!).

However when speaking to a doctor when they had ruled out a blood clot he was very interested in the Mounjaro and was asking me loads of questions...was saying he has lots of patients asking about is and was asking me the dosing schedule and where I got it and how much it cost.

When he first started asking about it I was worried I was going to get a lecture...but in fact he was genuinely interested just to learn about it.

KrankyKumquat · 12/08/2024 18:29

@3wDavid
Also re water. I'm not a big fan but can drink cheap, fizzy water from Aldi, etc much easier, with no added sugar squash especially Robinson's pink grapefruit which is less sickly sweet than other squashes.

Arraminta · 12/08/2024 18:33

Hot weather is guaranteed to make my fingers and feet swell. I remember my poor Mum struggling exactly the same.

MountKilimounjaro · 12/08/2024 18:49

@3wDavid the glass/bottle you're drinking water from makes allll the difference, you are absolutely right. I also feel the same way about the spoon I eat breakfast with.

WitchyBits · 12/08/2024 18:53

I took my first jab on Friday at lunch time. I just swing between feeling so hungry I can't eat as I feel like I'm going to be sick and not being at all hungry as I feel so sick. For me it feels like that awful sensation of early pregnancy morning sickness where you needed to eat to prevent sickness but would end up feeling worse. And the disturbed sleep. Urgh

Please tell me it gets better.

I have lost 4 lb but tbh I'd have lost that with a mild day stomach bug and probably felt more human 😂🤷🏼‍♀️
