Yes it's the length of the needle I'm worried about didn't know if I could get shorter ones Smile

@Slimstar13 that is a fantastic achievement, really inspiring - thank you for sharing. Your starting weight is nearly the same as my starting weight, I've only been going for 5 weeks so I've got a way to go yet but I'll get there!

I think you're supposed to inject it at a 45 degree angle so you only get the subcutaneous fat layer and go no deeper. I've done a couple of times, I hated the idea of it but it was actually no different in feeling to the normal injections. I know some people just don't like the needles but thought I'd say it was completely fine after i'd really worried about doing it.

Does anyone else find that some weeks the appetite suppressant stays with you for nearly the whole week until the next jab day and other weeks by day 4 it's well and truly worn off and you could eat a horse. My injection day is Sunday but yesterday and today I'm ravenous. Granted I'm still only on 4mg as I've had to titrate up slowly due to a bad reaction to the jump from 2.5 to 5mg.

Absolutely.

But I think I'm OK with that. I know some weeks toward the end I might be hungrier and I think it might also be to do with my cycle.

Acknowledging that I'm not an emotional or boredom eater but a sensory eater has been a game changer for me because I've managed to find low calorie foods that meet what I'm looking for for those weeks where I am starving by day 4, because I think it's also OK to be hungry and the mounjaro gives us time to work on our food mindfulness.

My current obsession is half a diced cucumber in sesame oil, soy sauce and sriracha mayo. It gives me fats that make me feel fuller, crunch, saltiness and spiciness and I can eat it regularly through the day with ease. Miso soup sachets are another favourite with a splash of hot sauce.

Has any one started a weightless thread for those of us with sensory needs or neurodivergences already?

I might start a what I've eaten today for sensory seekers and neurodivergents on mounjaro because there seems to be a lack of public domain peer support or knowledge for sensory eating as opposed to emotional eating. I've seen the normal what I eat in a day thread but I'd love more ideas from people like us. It can be hard to find low calorie substitutes for safe foods.

You are doing amazingly! I think I need to move in with you to get some tips!

I know you have kindly shared some ideas for boosting protein, etc but do you have anything you could share of what you eat in a day please?

I logged into my nhs app earlier and was having a nosey through, and as well as the letters from MedExpress, there are entries relating to my BMI as well which correspond with the dates of the letters and have not been reported by me. ME must be reporting that as well. I’m not bothered by it as I’ve nowt to hide but it surprised me when I saw it 🤷‍♀️

Hi @guestusername . One of my semi-retired jobs is as a coder at my local GP and I see a lot of Mj letters coming through. At our practice (and they may well all differ) if height, weight and/or BMI is given in any correspondence, I routinely put it on the patient record. The interesting thing is that not all Mj suppliers give this info in their letters, even though we customers have to give it each time they supply us!

As for the question asked earlier in these threads, I don’t send the letters through for GP attention unless the prescription is for 2.5mg Mj. I send those to the GPs because I don’t know the patients and my hope is that by sending the information to the GPs they would realise if the patient was actually not overweight but had got the Mj prescription by creative means (we’ve all seen examples on other threads!)

So that’s what I do…as I say, might be different at every GP but I hope this puts minds at rest…my GPs only see the 2.5mg letters but BMI (and weight and height) are recorded routinely from any correspondence.

RachelGreensHair · 09/08/2024 15:59

Is a 1kg loss per week on 2.5mg a good loss?

Mine was half that (and still is) so good going! Comparisons are invidious (also irresistible) but over two pounds a week is going to mount up quicker than you think! Brilliant!

Yes it's the length of the needle I'm worried about didn't know if I could get shorter ones Smile

If it helps, grab a ruler or tape measure and measure out 8mm, as that's generally the longest insulin needle. I had three same fear and honestly, it was fine. They're bigger than the pen needles, but by such a tiny amount!

Ifyounevergiveup · 09/08/2024 20:25

@imnottoofussed ok, so confessing here; I got insulin syringes from Amazon and they were fine (in both senses of the word) but I was useless, I just hated using them and was terrified I’d do something wrong. They frightened me! Thankfully you can also buy screw on insulin needles which are exactly the same as the ones which come with our pens. I got a big box from Chemist4u and they’re much less scary.

While I’m on, can I give a shout out to Care Pharmacy; they price match, they send out promptly and, gasp, they’re real people. I got a reply from them once at nearly 11pm and the last line was “tired; time for bed”! Made me laugh and kind of trust them all at the same time.

Arraminta · 09/08/2024 20:38

Hi. I'm following along very excitedly seeing all your positive stories but haven't ordered my first MJ pen yet. But I have a couple of issues about using it. Firstly, I'm 5ft 6 and 12.8 stone so my BMI is just under 30. Has anyone else told a little white lie in order to qualify?

Also my DH only wants me to order it from Boots because he's heard some horror stories about people being given fake medication that's dangerous. But reading on here Boots sound a nightmare to deal with and are so much more expensive!

I really want to drop 30lbs but my body is so determined to just stay over 12 stone. Any advice would be very gratefully received.

Copperbeechsilverbirch · 09/08/2024 20:42

If I have the extra dose left in a pen, can I twist it hard and press the plunger like normal to get it out? (I've bought some extra pen needles for this) - Or do I need to use a needle and syringe?

Thanks!

NCfor24 · 09/08/2024 20:44

@Arraminta I don't think anyone can advocate lying to obtain weight loss meds.

However what is the difference that would tip you over to BMI 30?

There isn't a rule that says weigh naked first thing in the morning and after a bowel movement!

A registered online pharmacy is fine. Boots isn't necessarily best value. The medication supplied is the same wherever it's obtained from so long as it's a legitimate source.

Vamozz · 09/08/2024 20:44

My order with Medexpress just updated to dispatched with guaranteed delivery before 1pm. The royal mail link says they're expecting the package.
Has anyone had this before on a Friday evening?
I'm concerned that it won't arrive until Monday and will be warm. Obviously I'm hoping for a delivery tomorrow but that doesn't seem likely of its been dispatched at 8pm on Friday

diian · 09/08/2024 20:49

imnottoofussed · 09/08/2024 18:14

Annoyed as my pen wouldn't twist for my bonus dose so I did it with my teeth and then the plunger wasn't pushing the medication out

So that's a spare dose in the bin.

I just don't think I'd cope with the size of the needles on the insulin ones or do they do some the same size as the Mounjaro ones? I'm scared of extracting and injecting it incorrectly

I had exactly the same issue with my bonus dose and a plunger that would not push the medicine out.

I ended up buying insulin syringes and extracted a 3.3mg dose. I was terrified of injecting, but it was fine and very easy.

@Ifyounevergiveup thank you - I’ve got an nhs background too, although not from coding so it’s good to get a different perspective. I was just surprised to see it there but am glad that it’s in my notes in case they ever needed it for some reason 🙂

Mine also dispatched this evening and I’ve just had an email from Royal Mail to say it will be here tomorrow by 1pm. They’ve always delivered when they say they will so I’m confident it’ll be here!

Thanks for replying. I reckon if I really go for it and weighed myself after a day of pizza and cake, I could just about hit 30 BMI? I've often used Med Express for other stuff and been happy with their services.

You are 10lbs under a BMI of 30. No chemist will prescribe MJ for the first time at this BMI unless you have other conditions.

The prescriber will ask for full length photos of you, of the scales with you standing on them and photo ID like your passport. A doctor will check all this against the medical questionnaire you submit and also inform your GP.

The prescribers are very aware of the bad press of people needing A and E care when they have mis- prescribed MJ to people with lower BMIs than 30.

Your BMI is 28.4, which is not 'just under 30'...?
