Hooray for a new thread!

I've had one of those rude awakening moments where you get hit in the face by how much more weight there is to lose. I've been feeling much better, gone down a few dress sizes, thinking I'm looking different. Then I saw a photo taken of me yesterday and damn it was not a good one. I had a rant at my other half about looking enormous and he was being nice. But I guess it explains a bit why people aren't commenting on my loss. Sure I've lost a lot, but I still need to lose a lot so it probably doesn't show as much as I'd like it too!

Alicewondersalot · 07/07/2024 13:10

@KeepingUndercover I keep getting moments like that. Fitting into clothes the next size down and my face is looking slimmer but then I catch a glimpse of myself in a shop window and I look just as big as I was! 🫣

Down 25lbs now but have another 100+lbs to go.

WeAllHaveWings · 07/07/2024 14:15

Thanks for the new thread!

Another one here with 100+ lbs to lose, and I am so far away from even thinking about looking good again. I am only 2 weeks in, so maybe that will come in time once it begins to feels more achievable.

I babysat my beautiful 1 year old great niece for a few of hours this morning while my niece went for a well deserved break to get a haircut/nails done, and I was so aware my back was aching when I tried to carry her to soothe her as she had a wee cry before her nap, I struggled to get down on the floor to play with her properly (and back up when she crawled away at speed!). I won't go into detail about how awkward/comical it was at the baby soft play last week with her! 😳

It is time for a life changing change, and knowing we are all going through similar feelings, hopes and dreams for our future lighter selves on this thread does help keep going!

ClonedSquare · 07/07/2024 14:51

I'm regretting sticking with the 5mg for a second month. It's like it's having almost no effect anymore. The food noise is reduced when I'm kept busy compared to pre-MJ, but when I'm not busy it comes back. I'm also not feeling as full for as long, so if I snack I'm managing to eat a fair bit and I'm not full enough to eat less later to compensate.

I'm undecided whether I'm just going to have to do strict willpower dieting for the next 3 weeks alongside the 5mg, or if I'm going to use the 15mg in my pen to do two 7.5 doses and just start my new pen earlier.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 07/07/2024 14:57

@KeepingUndercover I know that feeling well 😄

Even with a 4st loss I'm fat. I keep forgetting that although I feel much slimmer, I'm still only just under the obese bmi marker, which means I am indeed still massive 😓

I have a christening to go to next week (as a godparent so no getting out of the photos) and I'll be wearing a pale, tight dress. I dread to think how bad the photos will be.

In the first thread you talk of reading the early threads regarding side effects, could you share the links for these please as I can’t find them. Thank you

Maybe the main threads for Mounjaro and WeGovy? You can find all the MJ ones linked if you look at the first post on the latest thread: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5107426-continuing-mounjaropart-15

There's also useful info in that post. Happy to answer any questions you have if I can though, I know it's hard to trawl through old threads.

@ClonedSquare I had the same thing when I did an extra 5mg pen. I used the bonus dose to make my last 2 doses 7.5mg instead.

ClonedSquare · 07/07/2024 16:48

@KeepingUndercover Glad to know it's not just me! I'm nervous of the side effects going up again but think I need to!

CTRight · 07/07/2024 17:35

I'm 11 weeks in and 3 stone down, and delighted... had 5 stone to lose, but honestly for those starting out stick with it. I stick to 1200 calories a day, eat a full range of food, but do stick to unprocessed and non-sugary food (seafood and dark green veg has been my best friend!). I started by walking 10,000 steps every day (brisk) and now run 5k every day, walking inbetween. Feeling better than ever. Have had weeks where I've not lost (esp around time of the month) but on average 2-3lbs a week go. Overall best decision ever - and looking forward to shifting these last two stone. I'm on Mourjaro - did 2.5mg for first four weeks then stuck on 5mg since then.

JessicaPeach · 07/07/2024 19:10

Thanks for the new thread!

Aren't we all hard on ourselves! Before dropping those dress sizes you would have dreamed of being able to look the way you are today!

My confidence has take a real knock since it really dawned on me how big I had got, but I don't think I have any self esteem issues, I've only lost 7lbs (69 at least to go) and I was shaving my legs last night giving myself a little pat on the back about how slim they look after a week 🤣 Delusional but you may as well love yourself even while you are trying to make a big change

JessicaPeach · 07/07/2024 19:13

One thing I have been pondering while I've been reading back through old threads, fb groups and tiktok etc is that where mounjaro seems to be different to other weight loss is that I think the bigger you are the harder it seems to be to get really good losses each week. 12/13 stone appears to be the optimum weight to get excellent (faster) results. I suppose that's because the dosage is the same no matter what your size so probably takes longer to build up?

OldGreyBoots · 07/07/2024 23:02

Lost 10kg in 2 months, and I've had a few comments from people that I'm looking different facially, even though I don't see it yet!

Major bummer today though - having full-on period bleeding. I've not had a period in about 6 years thanks to my contraception, and I'm desperately hoping this is just a one off Sad

Crouton19 · 08/07/2024 03:02

Yay new thread! I've gone up to 1mg on wegovy and been awake the last 2 nights and now tonight with severe nausea despite not eating much, and rather regretting upping the dose. If it doesn't calm down I am tempted to jack this in. I can't keep missing out on sleep.

KeepingUndercover · 08/07/2024 07:40

That sounds awful @Crouton19, I hope it settles down for you soon.

@JessicaPeach I'm not sure about the losses and starting weight, I think it varies so much between people. I've had consistent and good losses from the start. Usually a kilo, sometimes a bit more and sometimes a bit less. I'm happy with that.

I honestly feel this and it's so frustrating.

I started on 2nd May at 19st 4.2

I've just weighed in and I'm 18st 0.6.

17.3lb in 9.5 weeks seems really slow to some others and I can barely eat anything.

KeepingUndercover · 08/07/2024 07:46

I've weighed in today, another 1kg down, 22 in total. Another 6lbs and I'll be under 15 stone, that's a nice mini goal.

I don't feel like that's slow, that's what 2lb a week on average? That's super consistent and probably really fat loss.

PrincessPeache · 08/07/2024 07:48

Thanks for the new thread!

Ready to take my second dose of 2.5mg tomorrow, the food noise has crept up a tiny bit but is easily manageable and I haven’t felt hungry at all since the injection last Tuesday.

I’ve lost 16.8lbs, taking me from 21st 2 down to 19st 13.8 this morning. Still such a long way to go but I am definitely already seeing it in my body with less bloating particularly. Feeling very positive!

I’m not EVER going to see 20 stone and above on a scale again!

PonyPatter44 · 08/07/2024 07:58

I've found my tribe. I've lost 20kg since the beginning of April, but pretty much noone has noticed! I'm still in size 18 clothes (I was a stretched-out 20 before). Everything feels looser, but my mental image of "losing 3 stone" is not reflected in my body! Someone mentioned the kitchen roll analogy on another thread, and I'm still hanging onto that.

I still have another 30kg to go. I'm getting married next March and I want to be at least in sight of "normal BMI" if not actually scraping in by then.

RMNofTikTok · 08/07/2024 07:59

@KeepingUndercover

I keep seeing people with 1+ stone a month losses and it's making me feel a bit meh especially with how rubbish I feel this week! But you are right 😊

ClonedSquare · 08/07/2024 09:27

I don't think the starting weight impacts losses. I started with a BMI over 50 and lost nearly 2 stone in 2 months. I think it is just individual bodies reacting in individual ways.

I didn't do my 5mg dose last night and am going to do 7.5mg (1.5 doses from this 5mg pen) at lunchtime. I have a job interview this morning so didn't want to risk going up a dose overnight. Hoping the bad side effects remain low and the appetite suppression and fullness come back!

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 08/07/2024 10:16

I also don't think starting weight is the biggest factor in the rate of loss. I think it's fairly well-established now that some people are 'super-responders' to GLP1 medications, regardless of their size.

It's also undoubtedly the case that since my starting point, and even now, my sheer size (both height and weight) means that I have a very high BMR and TDEE. If my Fitbit's calculations are to be believed, even on a fairly sedentary day I burn somewhere between 2000 and 2800 calories - a more active day with 8-10k steps will take me over 3000 calories TDEE. Between midnight and waking up I supposedly burn around 500 kcal.

I don't mean any of this as a stealth boast but simply to say that on a high suppression day where I might struggle to eat 800 calories I have an enormous calorie deficit of potentially 2k+ kcal, and if I want to maintain my rate of loss I am going to have to become much more active as I become lighter. It may be that the people you have seen around the 12-13 stone mark are able to be more active, or that they don't have additional challenges such as disabilities.

Wonderful we long haulers are on thread 2! Hurrah . Congrats everyone on your losses and NSVs.

Weight day today and 12kgs down in 12 weeks. Some weeks faster, some slower, but it evens out to a very pleasing loss.

I'm still on 5mgs MJ. Still have 20+ kilos to drop so taking my time moving up doses.

I haven't really got a goal weight yet. I can't imagine being any smaller than a size 14 ( this was my size when I got married 35 years ago and I had a great figure.. and was very comfortable at this size for most of my young adulthood.... but I have no idea what I weighed then). I think bmi under 25 is not where I want to be and probably not sustainable for me.... but we'll see where this journey takes me. I imagine I'll settle at somewhere between bmi 26-28 whatever that looks like.

Eating healthy normal food, , feeling healthy, exercising. Not feeling deprived. Not snacking or craving rubbish. Minimal side effects.

NSV I went swimming yesterday in my local pool. First time in months. My trusty cossie was loose and baggy... hanging off me in places. Time for a new one!

Absolutely priceless and life changing This journey we are on.

WeAllHaveWings · 08/07/2024 10:45

@JessicaPeach , Needing more of a medication rang a bell with me. I remember a very embarrassing Drs appointment when he was looking up books to check if, due to my weight I needed to take two contraceptive pills a day to be effective and the embarrassing answer was yes. 🫣

Googling I found these 3 separate statements

  1. “The amount of fat tissue in a person’s body increases the distribution space and thereby lowers the serum concentrations of fat soluble medications, which can in turn affect the effectiveness of the drug.”
  2. “many oral contraceptive pills contain hormones that are fat-soluble”
  3. “ Tirzepatide is not classified as fat-soluble. It is a synthetic peptide and a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, designed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.”

I am no Dr and the sources may not be accurate (includes ChatGPT), but from those statements it sounds like obese people do not need more Mounjaro than slimmer people.

Possibly for some people with lower weights their body’s are not as messed up and perhaps react quicker, there could also be a very strong placebo effect for some from a combination of the drug, support from their provider and reading threads with others successes. I know I find it does help enormously not to feel alone.
