Hi @VelociraptorsVelociRapping sending love and FlowersFlowersFlowers

JessicaPeach · 15/07/2024 13:47

I'm midway through week 3 now and seem to have stalled a little bit at 11lbs. I 'gained' a lb last week (which I couldn't have calorie wise, but I was in hospital with one of my little ones sun/mon/tues so think I probably had a bonus drop there as ate next to nothing those few days) and it's taken me nearly a week to get it off again. My original hope was a stone in a month so still on track for that.

I'm quite hungry already this week though, will be interesting to see how week 4 and bonus jab go

StillSingingAlong · 15/07/2024 14:00

I'm on week 2, at least five stone to lose, and baffled by the fact there are people saying to us, as mentioned upthread, that a downside is 'you'll regain all the weight when you come off'. What do these people want us to do?

I've lost this weight before and sure, I put it back on, and maybe I will again. But nothing I've tried in thirty years has helped me maintain a healthy weight. I have literally never achieved it in my teen to adult life. There is no diet plan, no magical change of lifestyle, nothing that works long term for me - so either I give up altogether and stay at a BMI of 40 or I keep trying to lose it in the hopes that one time when I get to target I will figure out how to make it stick. Therapy isn't a magic bullet either - I have tried!

I'm really hoping that these months on MJ will help me to figure out some long term habits that will stick, but it might not. Maybe I can't manage without medication. I suspect not. But that in itself doesn't seen like a good argument for not taking the medication now?

SilenceInside · 15/07/2024 14:12

I think there's got to be a psychological benefit to a long period of time without obsessive thoughts about food, whilst also having stable controlled blood sugar levels. Clearly, when you stop the injections you could immediately sabotage that by binging on high sugar/fat foods and go right back into old patterns. But surely the chances of that are much lower if you're absolutely not in the habit of it and don't want to do that anymore?

Plus, being a lower weight and less embarrassed about your appearance would mean that the chances of you being more active are higher too.

Yes and I think sometimes the regain comes from sheer exhaustion of having to put that much effort into losing weight for such a long time, it's not sustainable.

HanarCantWearSweaters · 15/07/2024 14:52

I did an application for zava last night and it’s come back as rejected but they won’t say why just that it was one of my answers. I did put down about binge eating so maybe it was that? Really disappointed 😞

CrazyKats · 15/07/2024 15:08

I managed to lose about 10kg last year through fast 800, keto and a LOT of body pump. I got down to about 98/99 - it was quite honestly humiliating in the exercise class to begin with. I think I burst into tears on a couple of occasions. I said I wasn't going to regain it but obviously I did, and a bit more. To try and maintain that for loss in the longer term is so unsustainable. I constantly thought about food, I had a couple of binges. I clearly have a very disordered approach towards food, I've examined it to within an inch of its life but these patterns are really entrenched. We know so much more about how our brains work, brain chemistry and neural pathways that it's made me try to be a lot more considered with the kids.

That must be so difficult, especially if they don't give you any concrete reason or suggestion of what to do next. Did they signpost you back to your GP?

Obviously if you are already working with your GP it would be irresponsible for anyone to make suggestions. Have you discussed starting MJ with your GP and if they would support you buying privately, and if not why not to understand why? Or get a second opinion?

I have never really looked up "binge eating" before. Picture is from NHS website. tbh I think quite a few people on this thread are likely to have some form of binge eating disorder. I could tick more than a couple of those symptoms. I am expecting my MJ journey not to be a quick fix, and to be at least 1 even 2 years long to lose weight steadily, but your post has prompted me that I need to make best use of that time too to work on my food problems. I have an annual check up in December for my blood pressure medication and will raise it then.

Yes they told me to go back to my GP but my GP was the one who referred me to my local hospital’s WLS who told me they couldn’t offer it on prescription but said it could be worth private if I could afford it long term 😩
I see a private psychologist at an ED clinic and she said she supports it as a tool for me. Put that in the box as well hoping it would help but I wish I’d never written anything now. So the people my GP referred me to and a clinical psych think it’s a good idea but the pharmacy providing it doesn’t

WeAllHaveWings · 15/07/2024 17:18

@HanarCantWearSweaters that must even more disappointing if you have the got ahead from your hospital. I can only guess then they don't have the means/resources to do a check with your GP. In that case I would try another provider and not mention it.

HanarCantWearSweaters · 15/07/2024 17:34

Thank you @WeAllHaveWings, I’m googling around now to try and find the best next option. So many to choose from and hard to see the best value in the long run. Also sorry for taking up the thread with my whinging! I hope I will be sharing positive updates instead before long. Smile

I think someone has done all that work in the main MJ thread. One of the attachments show all the providers, costs and some extra info.

HanarCantWearSweaters · 15/07/2024 17:45

Oh thank you! I’ll check it out now, was avoiding the big thread as perhaps unfairly I thought it might be full of those with smaller losses needed and was a bit embarrassed at how much I have to go

Hi @HanarCantWearSweaters , try again with Voy - I have BED and was honest about it and they approved me back at the end of April. I've got a discount code for £85 off your first pen here if you want it: https://joinvoy.com/r/U-wW0jC2cWdY

Your call if you stay quiet or not - but Voy offer coaching as part of the deal and my coach is aware and has been super helpful with mindset tools for me. Wish you all the best!

NewoIkkin · 16/07/2024 13:48

Hi there,
I purchased from Voy and was approved following photo etc., This morning I recieved an e mail offering me a refund as they will not ship outside of UK! I live in Republic of Ireland and was very disappointed and so
I am wondering if anyone knows of a company that ships outside of UK?
I could get it shipped to a UK address but I am attempting to keep this whole undertaking private! So I would prefer not to introduce a third party... Any thoughts?

KeepingUndercover · 16/07/2024 22:48

I have a feeling @Megjobethamy that nobody is legally allowed to ship to RoI, I'm sure I saw Irish posters on one of the early editions of the main MJ threads talk about getting them delivered to people in NI that they could collect from. If you've not tried asking on the main Continuing Mounjaro thread I'd give it a go, much more people there!

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 17/07/2024 06:25

@Megjobethamy Don’t quote me but I am sure I have read posts from Irish MNers on the long-running thread saying that only semaglutide (ie Ozempic / Wegovy) is currently licensed in Ireland and therefore Mounjaro wasn’t an option for them. I’m sorry but you definitely won’t find a UK company that will ship to ROI. It might be worth starting a new thread on this board specifically for Irish posters to find out your options.

Well done @NewoIkkin !!!! It's such a big and important milestone!

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 17/07/2024 08:02

First weigh in this morning and i'm so disappointed. I've only lost 1.2kg. I feel like I've hardly eaten anything the last week!

CrystaltipsnoAlistair · 17/07/2024 08:48

@AGirlsNameIsAryaStark well done. That is actually a really good loss. I’d be pleased with that. Try not to be discouraged 🫤 as it is a great start.

ClonedSquare · 17/07/2024 09:56

Just hit the 2 stone loss, which is about 9% of my starting weight so very happy. It's about the weight of my toddler, so crazy to think I was essentially carrying him around all the time before!

@AGirlsNameIsAryaStark 1.2kg is still a good loss! 2.5mg isn't considered a therapeutic dose (ie effective for weight loss) so any loss on it is great! It's really hard not to compare to the big figures you see in posts, I've been guilty of losing perspective myself. But for me, Mounjaro gives me the power to continue dieting long term which I never had before, and will eventually show great rewards even if it feels slow at the time!
