I've hit the 5 stone loss mark 🎉

My perception of time has been very weird lately. I could have sworn it had taken me ages to lose this most recent stone, but when I look back at my chart, it's only been six weeks! Not sure how I convinced myself I had been losing slowly and stalling in that time. Just shows it's really important to log your progress so your head doesn't tell you lies or demoralise you!

According to the Lose It app, 70lbs is the weight of a leopard 😂

Pinkbendyman · 26/11/2024 12:16

@ClonedSquare congratulations 🥳 That’s amazing 🤩

You must be feeling fabulous!

ClonedSquare · 26/11/2024 14:18

Thank you! I've celebrated by replacing all my underwear 😂

Greentrilby · 26/11/2024 18:50

@ClonedSquare congratulations! What an achievement! I love hearing success stories and they are so inspiring. New underwear sounds a great treat. I bet you’ll need lots of other new clothes too. 😃

ClonedSquare · 27/11/2024 07:28

@Greentrilby Thank you! It's so lovely reading all the success stories from people who've been on the same journey. I still have another 3-3.5 stone to lose to reach my main goal but it actually feels so achievable now. And more rewarding now, as each pound lost is so much more noticeable than it was at the beginning 😊

Greentrilby · 30/11/2024 09:45

No weight loss for me this week, but I’m ok with that. Just hoping to lose three pounds by Xmas day.

ClonedSquare · 30/11/2024 21:59

I was about to say Christmas is a long time away but it really isn't now! 😬

I think 3lbs is reasonable in that time though, and a good pace to lose at. I was hoping to lose another 10lbs by new year to get to BMI 40 but realising that was very over ambitious for any time of year and definitely didn't account for Christmas eating at all 😂

Greentrilby · 02/12/2024 19:26

As long as we are maintaining a downward trend I think we are winning!

Greentrilby · 02/12/2024 19:27

Oh and I’m buying far less food this Christmas for us to snack on. I know that if it’s in the cupboard I will eat it so it’s not being bought.

ChangeEmailAddress · 02/12/2024 22:26

Well I'm having a massive wobble right now. Took the first dose of my second 10mg pen two days later than I should have (forgot again). The day after I got very, very ill. Violent vomitting, terrible diarrhoea, passed out 3 times while on the loo, was totally flattened for 6 days, hardly ate. Haven't taken the next dose (now on day 9 if last dose was day one.

I messaged my provider for advice, they said to not take next dose until well, and if it's more that 14 days without treatment to restart at 2.5mg.

So what would you do now? I am ok now, wasn't right this morning, but was very dehydrated from it all. I'm thinking of doing a half dose tomorrow (5mg) - I know that provider will never suggest a half dose, but I'm a farmer and used to calculating doses etc.

Would you do 2.5? 10? 5? Possibilities are endless ...

ChangeEmailAddress · 02/12/2024 22:27

And if I do drop down to 5, should I stay there for a while, i.e. over Christmas to avoid it happening again?

Snozzlemaid · 02/12/2024 22:50

I'm having similar.
On my third dose of 10mg I had a day of bad diarrhoea. Didn't think much of it but it happened the week after too.
So on last week's dose I dropped down to 7.5. But 24 hours after that dose, once again terrible diarrhoea and awful stomach cramps that lasted 24 hours.
I'm due to take my next dose on Wednesday but am away for the night so will put it off until Thursday, but don't know whether to take another 7.5 or drop down again to 5mg.
I'd had no side effects whatsoever for my first 6 months but seems I've reached my body's limit.
I am tempted to go down to 5 for the rest of December so I can get through Christmas with no bad effects hopefully. Then review how it's going in the new year.
It's difficult to know what to do for the best though.

Greentrilby · 03/12/2024 07:59

Oh my goodness dosage is so difficult isn’t it. I think I’d take a 5mg dose and see how I felt. If you had no adverse reactions you could always take 2.5 around five or six days later if suppression was a problem. But whatever you decide, cutting back is probably worthwhile. Hope you both get it sorted. I feel your pain. @ChangeEmailAddress and @Snozzlemaid

ClonedSquare · 03/12/2024 11:15

@Greentrilby We'll also be buying so much less this Christmas! Normally I'm so excited doing the food shop and this year I barely care at all!

I'm not sure what to advise about the side effects issues. I also had symptoms completely out of nowhere starting about 2 months ago, so maybe it's a thing when you hit around 6-7 months. Mine were not as extreme as you guys, but I had constant diarrhoea (but solved with Imodium) and some vomiting too. I noticed it was worse with fatty foods (even ones with tiny amounts of fat), so I tailored my eating around that. But if you're not eating at all and the symptoms are continuing, I have no idea what to suggest!

I just continued with my existing dose for the next pen and the problems did sort themselves out after a few weeks. I even went up a dose after that as I felt better. But like I said, mine weren't extreme enough to dominate my life so I'm not sure. I still get diarrhoea occasionally but it's easily treated with Imodium. Personally, I'm finding the effects are getting weaker when I reach the end of a pen so I'm not willing to go down a dose, but I would consider it if I was suffering like you guys.

ClonedSquare · 03/12/2024 11:17

My issues were also with the 10mg pen, incidentally. Although I'd been on that dose for a few weeks before the issues began. So maybe this is a common pain point in terms of time and dosage build up. I'm on 12.5mg now and not having the same issues anymore.

ChangeEmailAddress · 03/12/2024 23:19

I decided to take nothing incase it's the pen. I've ordered a 7.5 to arrive tomorrow and will take a 5 dose from that. I'm too scared to use the 10 pen again. I have been a little worried about the rate of weight loss to be honest. I've 5.5 stones since May, which is loads. Maybe I need to drop the doses right back and maintain were I am the moment - I still have the same to lose again, but maybe a bit of 'downtime' is what's needed. Am trying not to think of how much money I've lost on the discarded pen .

Greentrilby · 04/12/2024 09:24

@ChangeEmailAddress sounds like you have decided on a good plan. Slowing down is no bad thing and it gives your body time to adjust. Cost is always a consideration but it’s an investment in your health and you can’t put a price on that. You’ve done tremendously well so far and will continue to do so, despite this little blip so don’t beat yourself up too much.

I’ve got low blood pressure and am prone to dizzy spells so always stick an electrolyte fizzer in my water bottle as I think it helps.

I hope you feel better soon.

Greentrilby · 08/12/2024 19:36

So I’ve lost a pound this week and am on target for my goal weight for Xmas day, fingers crossed.
Ive been doing my online shop for Xmas today and have been very mindful of not over ordering. I’ve added cheese, chocolate, crisps, alcohol and lots of other treats but just in smaller quantities as I’m determined not to over eat for the whole of the school holidays as I normally do. Anyone else got any tips for keeping on track in the face of so much nice food?

ClonedSquare · 08/12/2024 21:48

Congrats @Greentrilby on staying on track! I'm definitely paring down my Christmas shopping this year, I just can't bring myself to get excited about food like I usually do. My only tip is to keep busy busy busy, it's the only thing that keeps me from snacking!

I'm kind of dreading Christmas this year. My mum is coming to stay and she will definitely notice that I'm not eating as much during the main meal. I did a roast for my husband, son and I today and I could barely manage 2 roast potatoes, a Yorkshire and a chicken leg. A Christmas roast is going to be even bigger. Then on top of that she'll be expecting me to be picking at nibbles all day, then having dessert after dinner etc.

Greentrilby · 10/12/2024 08:37

Thanks @ClonedSquare
when I’ve eaten with family or friends, I’ve taken to saying that I’m really proud of myself for losing weight by cutting my portions and am going to continue to be mindful of how much I eat. It tends to shut down the food conversations. Hope your mum can be supportive of you.

ClonedSquare · 14/12/2024 08:01

That's a good answer for other people who ask me! Won't work on my mother who is...difficult about these things but I'm definitely storing it for other times.

Just worked out I'm at week 30 and I'm now down 75lbs. It's almost unbelievable that I've stuck at a diet for this long, and that I still feel like I can keep going even longer. I have another 33lbs to go to meet the main goal I had when starting out, and 63lbs if I want a BMI of 30/total loss of just under 10 stone. Those numbers feel achievable now, and that I might even meet the higher goal by this time next year. Whereas the idea of losing 10 stone before Mounjaro was soul destroying and not even on my radar.

Greentrilby · 14/12/2024 11:10

@ClonedSquare you are doing so well - despite your mum! 75lbs down is such an achievement and you will continue to lose more and achieve your goals.

It’s such an amazing feeling isn’t it. I only wish more people could take advantage of it and the NHS would roll it out quicker to those that really could benefit. I know it’s partly a staffing issue but it would save the NHS a fortune in the long run and I’d really like others to feel the euphoria that I feel.

It’s not just weight loss though, my blood pressure is down, my swollen ankles are less swollen, I’m no longer pre-diabetic and, apart from my cholesterol being too high, I’m back into the normal zone for all health measurements. To top it all this morning I reached my Christmas target of 10st 7lbs. I’m going out to the shops to treat myself 😃

ClonedSquare · 14/12/2024 15:55

@Greentrilby It would be so good if the NHS could roll it out quicker. It is really unfair that these health improvements are only available to people with quite a bit of disposable income. If these had been around when I was younger, I'd never have been able to afford them and it would have been even more life changing to do it sooner!

Such a good list of benefits there for you, the visible weight loss is obviously great but the health benefits are so important too. 10st 7 is an amazing achievement!

QueenOfHiraeth · 14/12/2024 19:39

@Greentrilby @ClonedSquare I am retired now but worked in the NHS for many years and have concerns about rolling it out widely as I can promise you it will not be nearly as effective on the NHS.

I used these drugs for years in diabetics and the number who altered their long term lifestyles, as most of us are doing, was fairly small despite having ongoing support and the added motivation of potential diabetic complications. We had high rates of, either, the patient stopping due to side effects they would not tolerate, or of the prescribers withdrawing it because of poor results in either weight loss or blood sugar levels (which we all know requires the patient to change). Those of us using it privately are fortunate to be able to afford it but are also well-motivated to improve our health. I spoke to a colleague recently who is still working and asked if the success rates had changed since all the GLP1 publicity and he he said slightly but not significantly; unfortunately people do not seem to engage as well or value medication provided at no cost

Greentrilby · 14/12/2024 21:37

@QueenOfHiraeth ah that’s so sad to hear.
