Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 26/04/2024 08:41

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

@KrankyKumquat grr on the new scales, you'll get there though.

Loubri · 01/06/2024 13:11

Morning All,

I took my first dose of 7.5 last night. Feel totally spaced out today, almost disconnected mentally and physically. I suspect I really need to drink more but when it’s cold I just don’t think about reaching for water!
I’ve only just put a couple of spoonfuls of muesli on top of a pot of yoghurt because I realised I hadn’t eaten anything. Bit of a change from 5 where by the end of the week I could eat everything!

And yes, where is the sun?!

KeepingUndercover · 01/06/2024 13:15

One of the things I'm enjoying, now my side effects have stabilised, is this is making me do decent lunches again. I'd got in a "oh I'll just have a toastie and crisps" rut, and I'm not even that keen on sandwiches. But now I really don't want that so I'm putting in a small bit of effort and making nice salads or something cooked.

Today I've made spinach and eggs, which is really easy and all done in one pan. Cook the spinach a bit in a frying pan, crack the eggs in, stick a lid on and wait until the eggs are done. Makes lunch feels like much more of a treat meal. I added half an avocado and a couple of oatcakes. Just feels like I'm treating myself better.

Loubri · 01/06/2024 13:22

@KeepingUndercover that sounds nice. I’m looking forward to the food noise reducing enough that I can properly consider what I’m putting in my body. Oh and the scales moving too! I’ve lost a stone in 8 weeks so far. Doesn’t sound that bad now I’ve written it but I’ve got SO much to lose.

Grandmalyn · 01/06/2024 15:39

Just moved up to 7.5 this week and food noise is back. And I have cravings. Eaten crisps and chocolate and biscuits this week. Not felt any of this since day 1. Thought moving up a dose would make a positive difference not a negative one. Only lost 1 lb this week😟serves me right for eating biscuits. Is this usual? On the plus side I have not had any side effect and have lost 21 lbs in 9 weeks

KeepingUndercover · 01/06/2024 17:41

I've had that a bit this week @Grandmalyn, it's my first week on 7.5. I've mostly been resisting. I'd mostly put it down to being quite a long way in and my brain having a bit of a rebel. When I do eat I can't manage a huge amount.

Grandmalyn · 01/06/2024 18:15

I agree about not eating Hugh amounts Keepingundercover but I am eating more than before

The rubbish weather meant my being so cold at night is back. That was a huge thing when I first started. Last night I was back with a jumper on and an extra blanket. It's nearly June!

It is very cold...I have a hot water bottle tucked into my back most nights now!!

Crouton19 · 02/06/2024 07:44

It is so heartening to read all the encouraging resuls on this thread. I am trying to remember that slow and steady is not failure!

I took my 4th dose of the 0.25 pen yesterday and have lost 1 stone since I started, currently at 13 st 10. My usual work clothes are looser and I've been able to get into a pair of trousers I bought some time ago, which despite being a size 16 were too small (I have thick legs!).

I am going to up my exercise, as other than a looong walk at the weekends, I barely do any during the week. I am going on an AI holiday in a few weeks and would love to be another half stone or so down by then. Next dose pen is on order, and the side effects have not been too bad so far so I am keeping everything crossed that the next dose will not cause any issues.

LeafUsAlone · 02/06/2024 10:09

I'm not sure if this is the medicine suddenly working or if Im doing something different, but after losing the same lb for 10 weeks, I am suddenly down 3 lbs since Friday...anyway long may it last!! I might start to catch up on everyone else a little now!

catgirl1976 · 02/06/2024 10:50

I gained 4lb last week which really threw me

However did a 3.75 dose on Friday and three of those four pounds have come off already and if I lose another two I’ll be back to losing weight so that’s given me a boost

my mistake was ordering another 2.5 pen instead of the 5 because I reacted so well and lost so much the first two weeks. Anyone in a similar situation o would recommend buy the next one up and some extra needles and you can always do smaller doses from it if you are still finding it enough

Dogsbreath7 · 02/06/2024 11:51

I have just restarted after a 2 week break (GA op and didn’t want to deal with side effects and post op recovery). As a heads up my pre-MJ appetite returned including mid afternoon and evening sweet tooth munchies. So in my experience there is no ‘trail off’ effects on appetite suppression.

Makes me worried for the end game if habits don’t change- certainly lifetime of strict calories control.

The good news is restarting wasn’t too painful and appetite suppression has been immediate (only had 700 cals yesterday) and still not hungry at midday today.

So hope there if any one wants/needs to take a break.

(currently 3rd dose 5mg MJ)

KrankyKumquat · 02/06/2024 12:01

Just a heads up that I've just read on a FB page that someone's supplier has said there'll be a delay in sending out her next MJ pen due to supply issues/high demand. Sorry can't find post now to check who with but think it was Boots or Asda. Anyway, I've ordered my next pen from Medexpress a week earlier than I intended, just in case there's a more widespread issue.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 02/06/2024 12:06

Thanks for that @KrankyKumquat. I've just ordered a 'step up' pack from Bolt for my next two pens - a 7.5mg and a 10mg - which worked out at £179 each rather than £189 separately. Bolt have 12.5mg and 15mg currently OOS but the other doses seem available.

Just ordered my next dose and saw a warning that more than 2week break with MJ and you need to restart at 2.5mg.

KeepingUndercover · 02/06/2024 16:22

@catgirl1976 glad that gain is disappearing and you got that boost.

catgirl1976 · 02/06/2024 17:17

Thanks @KeepingUndercover i was getting a bit down but my motivation is fully back now!

Alicewondersalot · 02/06/2024 19:09

I just bought my next 7.5mg pen with Zava for £147 using one of the 15% friend referral code from the other thread. So similar price to Medexpress when they were providing discounts. If you’d like to use my code it is REFHNHUR - you’ll get 15% and I get another 15%. 😊

KeepingUndercover · 03/06/2024 09:11

First week on 7.5mg and it's definitely given me a boost, 2kg off this week. I didn't lose much last week and was feeling really bloated so I think some of it is down to the bloat going.

I'm edging closer to getting under 100kg. Don't expect such a big loss again in a week but hopefully by the end of the month I might be there.

peachbelly · 03/06/2024 09:40

Well, I took my first dose on Friday. Only a couple of side effects so far: I got very tired afterwards, which isn't that unusual for a Friday afternoon but I actually fell asleep and that is unusual.

My tummy has been very very swollen and gurgling quite a bit, but not painful at all.

Definitely feeling some appetite suppression but not struggling to eat. Just easier to resist takeaways and other junk.

Tentative so far so good.

Alicewondersalot · 03/06/2024 12:53

@KeepingUndercover congrats on the lose! 7.5mg looks to be working for you, which is great 😊 Fingers crossed for reaching your milestone by the end of June.

Finally moved up to 5mg this week after titrating up slowly for a few weeks. Weight loss to date is 17lbs, super happy so far! 🎉

NSV - managed to get into some old jeans when I was switching over my winter and summer clothes and a couple of my dresses aren’t so tight on the stomach 👍🏼

Choux · 03/06/2024 13:32

For those of you looking unsuccessfully for MedExpress discount codes they seem to have stopped issuing them. As a result I have switched to ZAVA who give 15% off with a referral code. I just used someone's from the other thread and got mine which is REFVYVHF.

If someone uses it you get 15% off and I then get 15% off my next order.

Ghilliedu · 03/06/2024 16:28

Put this on the main thread earlier but it’s so busy over there I think it just got lost!

I counted clicks for a 3mg jab on Saturday. This is because I’ve been so ill when I’ve tried to go higher (3.25) but it’s honestly doing nothing. I’m not sure what to do as I have zero suppression but the extra .25mg seems to kill me!

im thinking about doing split doses so doing another dose on Thursday (5 days) but I can’t work out what dose to take. If I do another 3 it might take me over what appears to be my threshold but will less than that have any effect at all?! I’m so confused by it all and thinking about giving up

KeepingUndercover · 03/06/2024 17:49

I'm not really sure what to suggest @Ghilliedu. On the higher dose, do you feel awful for a long period? I found going up to 5mg hard and had a few days of feeling pretty dreadful. It did gradually get better week by week though. Remind me what side effects you're getting?

Ghilliedu · 03/06/2024 18:00

Thanks for replying @KeepingUndercover My symptoms when I try to move up are severe vomiting and diarrhoea for 2/3 days. It’s horrific. I hoped it would be a one off but I tried again and it was the same. I don’t have 2 days a week to spend in bed! I spoke to a pharmacist at med express and they told me to go back down to 2.5mg (obv they don’t condone counting clicks and making up my own doses but I’ve done it anyway!)

I hoped I might have some suppression on 3mg but literally nothing. I wondered if doing 3mg and then 2mg 5 days later might work but I’m so worried about the sickness

sorry I know there’s no advice anyone can really offer as I seem to be in the minority. I just feel quite lost with it at the mo moment and trying to find a way to keep going
