Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

I just went through my old photos/screenshots looking at my old MyFitnessPal data (I deleted it all from the app!). I don't know why I felt like torturing myself, but it's really highlighted the extent of my denial.
My last big weight loss was 2017 when I lost nearly 40lbs (I actually thought it was 50) doing keto, going from 210lbs (only JUST obese) to 173 I think. My highest before that was 215lb in 2016 when I lost 20lbs before putting most back on. Lowest recorded weight was 2012 at 160lbs.

I hadn't realised quite how much heavier I was at the start of Mounjaro than I was back then.
I started this in March at 244lbs. That's over 2 and a half stone heavier than where I started last time. Just feels like so far to go and I don't quite understand how I didn't realise how heavy I was. I'm tall, but still!

Anyway, pity party over. Onwards and downwards!

KeepingUndercover · 31/05/2024 12:39

I think it just creeps up on you @RagzRebooted. I lost weight a good few years ago now and was doing really well. Then I had some bereavements and homelife got tough and I just kept gaining. I knew how heavy I was but I just didn't pay any attention to it. And then I hit a point where losing it just felt like an unwinnable battle so I ignored it and stopped paying attention.

It's only because I started reading about medications that I thought I could get myself together to do something again. It does feel like a slog, and so far to goal. But I don't know about you, but I'm already starting to feel benefits which is encouraging me to keep going at least.

Alicewondersalot · 31/05/2024 13:33

@PissedOffNeighbour22 fantastic result! Did you buy new clothes for your holiday? 😊

@KeepingUndercover feel the same about my jeans - I’ve lost 17lbs now but still wearing the same jeans, I can feel they are not as snug but no massive difference. I think it will take some time for me to not feel fat regardless of what the scale says. I also think I see myself as bigger than I am, so some of this is definitely my own warped perception of my body. I wonder when I actually lose a lot whether in my head I will still think I’m big. I need to work on that because it will probably be the key to helping me maintain the loss and healthy habits with food.

RagzRebooted · 31/05/2024 14:04

@KeepingUndercover yes, you're right. I had the same re a few years of bereavements followed by working through COVID and tricky stuff at home and the weight piled on. I just didn't have the headspace to tackle my weight as well the many other things.
Which is why MJ is such a godsend as even when I'm having a bad week (like this week) I am not eating my feelings or just totally forgetting I'm on a diet!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 31/05/2024 14:27

@Alicewondersalot I still have all my size 16 clothes from a while back so will just use those (I'd gone up to a 20). Last week I made the mistake of buying a few bits off Vinted and they were all rubbish.

I'll struggle when I drop lower than a 16 though as I've recently sold or donated 99% of my size 12 and 14 clothes thinking I'd never get back into them 😓

oreo2024 · 31/05/2024 15:00

@RagzRebooted interesting, my story is very similar, I lost 20kg+ in 2016 and slowly put it back on to the same starting point (108kg) over 8 years. I never learned to maintain it seems. Not a mistake I can afford to make again.

Nice! 👌

I did the same a couple of years back - I had an air tight bundle of clothes I loved all around size 14 and gave them all to charity when I thought I would never get back into them. I don’t think I have anything smaller than 18 in my wardrobe now but currently even that is too small but fingers crossed I’ll get into them eventually! 🤞

Vinted can be hit and miss I find.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 31/05/2024 18:41

@Alicewondersalot it's so annoying isn't it when you find you could have made use for it all. I'm on a decluttering thread on MN and was happily counting out all the clothes I was getting rid of, feeling great about it 😄.

I really don't want to spend a lot of money on clothes once I've lost the weight so I'll probably end up wearing the few size 14 items I have left, looking like a throwback to 2005. They might be back in fashion by the time I reach a healthy bmi 😂.

KeepingUndercover · 31/05/2024 18:59

I had a scroll on Vinted but everything was so ugly. The way the weather is at the moment I'm not really in need of summer stuff anyway. I'm currently living in a pair of those M&S side stripe trousers that were a size I wore before but a small version of it so they've been languishing in my cupboard. I'm just going from my "generous fit so size down" clothes to my "true to size" clothes at the moment!

LeafUsAlone · 31/05/2024 19:02

I've just read that injecting into the upper arm can help reduce side effects - its anecdotal but wondering if this is worth a shot? I don't feel too bad, but a general and lingering bleughness, just enough to make me not want to go out and do much.

It's been so long since I was below a size 20 and even that is a long way off atm - I'm looking forward to a new wardrobe of clothes if I ever get the weightlosses to properly start!

Alicewondersalot · 31/05/2024 19:04

@PissedOffNeighbour22 ah, the decluttering bug - I get that too and feel like everything has to go!

I’ll probably shop a bit more in charity shops when I get down to the smaller sizes as you can see what you’re buying and often try things on. I’ve tried to stop buying fast fashion and build my wardrobe around some classic styles and shapes - give or take! 😂 So I’ll have to do that again for a smaller me, which I am looking forward to!

Alicewondersalot · 31/05/2024 19:11

@KeepingUndercover yes, it’s the transitional sizes that will be difficult to navigate - once I get under an 18 I’ll have to navigate 16 and 14 by wearing my smallest size 18 as I don’t want to buy too much at those sizes (might end up having to buy a couple of items I suspect). Then I am hoping (dreaming) that I will be able to get to and maintain around size 12. 🤞

KeepingUndercover · 31/05/2024 19:13

I feel like dresses are quite good for transitioning @Alicewondersalot, less likely to get that hideous saggy bum too big trousers get. Or getting that bunched up waist look from a tight belt.

Alicewondersalot · 31/05/2024 19:18

@KeepingUndercover yes! Dresses and some floaty tops/baggy t-shirts. Going to have to rock the oversized look for a while, which never looked good on me as I have huge breasts so I just look like a tent 🤣

will be worth it in the end!

I find that with Vinted too. Friends swear by it so I must be doing it wrong, but I just get fed up of scrolling through ugly clothes! Maybe you need to know what your looking for (brand, style etc).

I got rid of all my too small clothes too as we're moving this year, so I've got nothing smaller than an 18 really other than a few dresses I kept.im hoping to get through the summer in dresses as they're more forgiving and then maybe skip a size or two. We shall see...

Has anyone else found 5mg not working as well as 2.5?
The side effects have massively ramped up but I find the suppression is less.
I only lost 0.5kg last week which was my first week on 5, whereas I had lost at least 1.5 a week on 2.5.

I am so glad you have said this. I feel exactly the same. I have lost weight but really having to try very hard and finding myself thinking about food and grabbing the odd choc at work which I wasn't doing before.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 01/06/2024 01:39

@Eminybob my weight loss stalled when I went onto 5mg too. It just felt like it wasn't working. It picked up after a couple of jabs and the weight loss continued as normal.

TimeIretired · 01/06/2024 06:00

Anyone clicked on the emed drop up ad on here? Looks like the only want brand new, never been on MJ before as at 17st I fit into the profile otherwise. Trying everything to get cheaper pens 😂

Alicewondersalot · 01/06/2024 06:54

@TimeIretired I’ve not seen the ads but I’ve been with MedExpress for my last two pens (started with Health Express). But the discount codes are gone now it seems and I’ll probably move to Zava as there are a few on the other thread who have shared their 15% discount codes. Actually makes Zava slightly cheaper than MedExpress because they charge less for postage. So a 7.5mg pen will be £147.64.

KeepingUndercover · 01/06/2024 08:10

The rubbish weather meant my being so cold at night is back. That was a huge thing when I first started. Last night I was back with a jumper on and an extra blanket. It's nearly June!

It is June today and it's crazy cold... Tomorrow looks better where I live.

Just weighed and have lost 1lb and 3 quarters. Been totm this week.

Start weight 18.4
Current weight 16.12. (One person has noticed a loss)

I don't exercise so might try and add some walks this week to see if that helps.

My first two pens have been med express with discount. Concerned the codes seem to have dried up but I feel I can't stop now. Luckily I can do extra shifts in my evening job but I have to be careful I am not too tired for my day job.

Alicewondersalot · 01/06/2024 10:12

@KeepingUndercover So cold last night! I had just taken my injection so that added to it. Had my winter pyjamas on 🥶

KeepingUndercover · 01/06/2024 11:20

@Sunshineandrainbow I'd missed that today is the 1st! I thought we had another day of May still. I've had to put a jumper on again today. Maybe I won't need to buy any summer clothes at all this year.

KrankyKumquat · 01/06/2024 12:46

Well! After losing 11lbs since 15th May, I thought I'd moved to just being Overweight rather than Obese but new, all singing and dancing scales arrived and I'm 2lbs heavier than I thought. GUTTED.
