Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

@JessicaPeach Thank you for the reassurance! I don't think we'll be having another, but knowing that about insulin will set my mind at ease if we do. I was on metformin last time and those pills are ridiculously enormous!

I'm still within the 5 year "danger zone" for developing Type 2 after GD, so I'm really hoping Mounjaro and the weight loss can help with avoiding that in future.

Eminybob · 29/06/2024 08:38

Whoop I have broken through the 2 stone zone!
That has always been my nemesis, I can't tell you how many times I have lost and gained the same 2 stone, and I had stalled a bit this last week or so. But today I stepped on the scales and I am 2 stone 1.8 lb down!

Still plenty to go but it feels achievable now!

Choux · 29/06/2024 09:42

@WeAllHaveWings how are you feeling now after combining jab 1 with Covid?

I didn't answer your question at the time but, unless your are feeling terrible today I would do your second jab as per normal.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 29/06/2024 10:12

@Eminybob congratulations

2 stone is always the point where I give up when I lose weight, usually takes me about a month to do the first stone then 2 or 3 months to get to just about 2 stone then I always start to feel I look great and fall off the wagon. My starting weight is much higher this time though so I think it will be 3 stone that's going to be the big one to get past for me.

Congratulations, it does feel amazing to hit a tough goal!

Hi everyone, wondering if I could join?

I haven’t yet started but desperate to. Finally stepped on the scales after many many years of slowly putting on weight and absolutely horrified. I have, realistically, about 7 stone I need to lose. Just writing it out makes me want to cry.

can I ask how everyone has gone about telling their partners? The only thing that’s stopping me is telling my husband. He’s very much “I love you just the way you are” and not sure how he’d react to it.

WeAllHaveWings · 29/06/2024 14:52

Thanks @Choux on the mend now, I managed to eat a bit yesterday and went ahead with my 2nd 2.5mg injection today. Still testing positive and trying to avoid ds(20) who goes on holiday on Monday!

Week 1 - 10lb loss (due to Covid!)

Welcome @AGirlsNameIsAryaStark ! I have around the same to lose.

I never told dh until the pen had arrived and I had spent a couple of days psyching myself up to inject (hid the pen behind jars in fridge doorbell- he isn’t very observant 😂). Told him just before I went to do it. Just told him my knees were hurting, my hips were sore when sleeping and if I didn’t do something about it soon it was going to get serious for my health and I’d probably end up disabled. He was a bit worried, but happy when I said I’d done research and it is prescribed by a Dr. He asked how much it was (more out of interest in the product as even though we have completely joint finances we trust each other to be responsible).

Here’s my ZAVA code if you need one and it will mean I can get a discount on next pen too. They were good with my first order. Placed order on Saturday, was asked for photos Sunday and pen arrived Tuesday. I did a full body side ways photo looking away from camera as felt more comfortable with that. Pen came with 7 needles, but you need to get your own sharps bin and wipes.

There’s no better gift than the gift of good health. Use my code and you’ll get 15% off your first order at ZAVA: REFREEF6

Maximum discount value: £30

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 29/06/2024 15:18

@AGirlsNameIsAryaStark my partner has that same attitude but he was fine about me starting. He just said it's up to me what I do, as long as it's safe.

I was 13st when I met him about 6yrs ago and put on almost 3st when I had kids. I'm now under 12st so he's never seen me at this size.
He's very supportive and the poor bloke has to listen to me banging on about my weight or some other boring MJ info every single day but still says he finds it interesting 😂.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 29/06/2024 15:19

Well done @Eminybob 🎉🎉

ClonedSquare · 29/06/2024 15:57

I just told my husband and he was fine with it. He's generally sceptical about these things but knows it's not really his place to comment when he hasn't done any research himself. He even said we should pay for it out of our joint money (I was going to use my "fun money" for it) since my health is an investment for the family 😂

Countrygirl222 · 29/06/2024 16:58

Syringes for extra dose
Please can I ask what kind of syringes people are ordering for the extra dose?

Choux · 29/06/2024 17:06

@PissedOffNeighbour22 @ClonedSquare sounds like your DHs are a couple of keepers! It really is an investment in the future happiness of your family unit.

@Countrygirl222 I bought these and they are fine. A little bit longer than the pen needles but no more painful. The key thing whichever you buy is to make sure they are sterile. The dose is 0.6ml so you need 1ml syringes.

Crouton19 · 29/06/2024 19:24

@Eminybob That's fantastic, what an achievement! 2 stone gone forever 😊

I've just ordered my third pen of wegovy, up to the 1mg dose. I had a week on an all inclusive break and still managed to come back lighter. I've now gone from 14st10 to 13st6 in 7 weeks, which might not be the biggest fastest loss but I'm happy with it. I'm also happier now I don't think about food so much, can do a supermarket shop and not fill it with treats for myself. In fact I'm spending less overall, I just don't feel like I want or need much of anything.

I read the Johann Hari book Magic Pill which someone on this thread recommended and it was very interesting, and I would recommend it too. I've spent years hating my lack of willpower, wondering how on earth some people could feel full after half a meal, turn down dessert. That a hormone could do this is just mind blowing. I wish this had been around 20 years ago.

I would always recommend getting them from a pharmacy as it is vital they be sterile. Ones from pharmacies are sold as "Sterile Insulin Syringes" but a lot sold on Amazon and other retailers do not mention sterility so it can be harder to see what you are getting

There's lots of us with similar and more to lose so you're in good company.

I haven't told my husband 😉

Just weighed in at 296lbs today and ordered my first Mounjaro pen. I’m 33yo ffs this is meant to be the best years of my life and I’m terrified of a heart attack! I’m doing this for my son. I’d like to get down to 146lbs, so 150lbs to lose!

Welcome! I started at a very similar starting weight of 290lbs and aiming for similar target. So far I’ve lost 24lbs and on week 12 now so averaging 2lbs a week, which is not the fastest but is more than I could manage on Slimming World!

Enjoy the journey 😊

MJ has changed my life more than just the weight loss - much less anxious (I’ve been able to reduce my antidepressants to a very low dose), more motivation to do things I’ve been putting off, no more night sweats or brain fog, my hayfever and allergic asthma has reduced dramatically, which I can only think is MJ reducing inflammation in my body.

Oh that is all so reassuring!! So glad it’s made such a massive difference to your life :)

KeepingUndercover · 01/07/2024 07:38

Progress update for me. Week 16, 900g lost (so about 2lb), 21.1kg in total. Really pleased with that, even though I'm not sure I'm even half way there!

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 01/07/2024 07:51

Hi All
Just to give reassurance for anyone experiencing stalls - my stall lasted just over 5 weeks before I started losing again. It's so hard to trust the process, and pre MJ I would have thrown in the towel, but just keep doing the right things and eventually the scales will shift again.

I'm in week 19 and have lost 11kg, many have lost more in that time but given I didn't respond to Wegovy at all I'm delighted MJ appears to be working for me. Starting BMI 35.1 wearing large 18/20, current BMI 31.6 wearing large 16 , all headed in the right direction.

ClonedSquare · 01/07/2024 08:10

I lost 2lbs this week, which I'm happy with. I'm sticking to 5mg for a second month, but will go up to 7.5mg next time if I need to.

This week: 2lbs
Total: 23lbs in 8 weeks
BMI change: -4 in 8 weeks

I'm 2lbs away from breaking the nearest stone barrier so hope to manage that this week. I'm 5lbs from having lost 2 stone total so fingers crossed I break that barrier later this month. My main goal is still losing another stone by the end of September, which feels manageable!

KeepingUndercover · 01/07/2024 08:49

Well done @ClonedSquare, hope you get past that stone barrier.

I was debating what to order for my next pen but I've decided to go up to 10mg. I'm switching supplier to Bolt so waiting to hear from them.

Alicewondersalot · 01/07/2024 08:52

So good to hear about everyone’s losses and especially hearing @Everdecreasingcircumferences getting through your stall! Been through a mini one which was frustrating, can’t imagine 5 weeks!

frecklejuice · 01/07/2024 11:09

I've just ordered my 5mg pen of Mounjaro and just wondering if anyone noticed a big difference with side effects going from 2.5 - 5? I haven't had anything really on the 2mg apart from feeling really tired so I'm a bit worried that going to 5mg the side effects are going to hit me!!

I have lost 11lb though so far so it's all going well.
