Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

Good morning ladies. A mid week check-in here. No loss here and I am 2 days away from 6 weeks on MJ. In the essence I lost 4kg in the first 2 weeks and 2kg in the last 4 weeks. Looking back, I had lost more (like 4kg in a month) in the earlier years when I wasn't on MJ, so MJ is not be all and end all. So it's slightly demotivational and frustrating, especially when I have been consistent and given up alcohol. Just hoping pounds will drop one day when the heat is over or when my body is ready to drop them. Have a great day!

KeepingUndercover · 26/06/2024 10:35

Keep going @oreo2024, you might just need to be on the higher doses before it really kicks in.

dontstopmenow · 26/06/2024 15:05

Good afternoon all, I think this is the thread for me! I am hoping to pick up my first mounjaro pen tomorrow. I have an appointment with my local chemist who prescribes it. I currently weigh 23stone 4lb. I have no idea what to say as a goal weight as the lowest weight I can remember being was 17stone and that was 25 years ago!
I have tried everything previously and I just skip back to bad habits really quickly after I have lost a bit. I am so hopeful that Mounjaro will be the answer for me!

omega4ever · 26/06/2024 17:01

Welcome @dontstopmenow
Hope you appt tomorrow goes well. Great you are going to have a face to face appointment for support and advice. Let us know how it goes .

Most of us I think are buying online And relying on these threads for ongoing support. There is so much excellent info on these long standing threads.

Thanks also to someone for using my Zara code posted yesterday. Much appreciated.

The last 2ws have brought slower losses for me.
Im strangely ok about it though . Still positive I couldn't of done this without MJ.
They are still losses. Trusting the process.
Acknowledging and enjoying the NSVs.

Just had my 10th injection, so 9 weeks in and 10.4kgs down.
My BMI at start was 41.8, BMI now 37.9.

Im staying on 5mgs for another few weeks but need to order a 7.5mg pen .
I think I'll try to switch supplier to save a few quid... any suggestions of where to go? Can I order more than one pen at a time from anywhere does anyone know?

Well done to all the long haulers! We are marathoners not sprinters!

@WoolyMammoth55 your post a few days ago really resonated with me! I feel the same about enjoying the journey and eating healthily and accepting where I am now without beating myself up.

9 weeks and over 10kg is amazing!

Alicewondersalot · 26/06/2024 20:25

Well done to all the loses! Keep going if you’re in a stall!

11th week check in for me with a total of 21.2lb lost. Pretty happy as I had a stall for over 10 days recently. My period finally showed up this week, so about 20 days late or a week early! 🤷🏻‍♀️

SW 20st 10.2lbs
CW 19st 3lbs

Just finishing my fourth week on 5mg after titrating up slowly. I still feel a medium amount of suppression and I lost 2.4lbs this week so I am tentatively going to carry on with 5mg for now. I also began tracking my calories again, which helped break the stall.

Ordered my next pen from e-surgery on Monday, approved within an hour and dispatched same day. Royal Mail were a bit pants as it arrived today instead of yesterday but all in all happy with the service. Pen wasn’t very cool when it arrived but I’ve just added a -2 days on the box to keep track of how long it was out of the fridge in case I need to take it away and it is out of the fridge for any further time. Used Return15 discount code and the 10mg pen was £147 with delivery. I also received another 15% off in an email today and there was a 15% off in the bag. So I am sorted for my next pens.

The only potential downside with e-surgery is they are not doing any extra checks, like photos or checking previous prescriptions, so open to abuse. They only have a statement that you have to confirm that all the information you have given is accurate. Doesn’t affect me directly because I have a lot to lose and am providing accurate info but does make me nervous all the same.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 27/06/2024 07:21

I've hit the 4st loss mark today 🎉.

My scales also told me I've now got an acceptable level of visceral fat so I'm really happy about that as surely I'm less 'at risk' now there's not loads of fat around my organs. I still have a huge about of subcutaneous fat though unfortunately.
4st down, at least 2st more to go.

omega4ever · 27/06/2024 07:24

@PissedOffNeighbour22
Wow!!! That's so brilliant... you must feel amazing... well done!!!

May be a silly question but how are you managing with clothes as you must be ramping down the sizes?

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 27/06/2024 08:30

Thanks @omega4ever.

Weirdly I don't feel much different and I still look really fat in photos 😂. I managed to fit into some size 14 trousers yesterday and a tight fitting t-shirt and for the first time I felt 'thin' even though I'm only just under the obese bmi level now.

I was a size 20, creeping into a 22 and it took forever to get to an 18. Then I dropped rapidly to a 16 and now I'd say I'm more 14/16. I already have plenty of clothing down to a size 14 as I'm a bit of a hoarder so had kept them all 'just in case'. Just before I started MJ I sold all my size 12 clothing 🤦🏻‍♀️.

I'm a bit worried about getting to a 12 or even a 10 as it means I will have to buy new clothing. I have a handful of size 12s left I think. Im really tight when it comes to spending money on myself so I'll either try and stick to keeping the smallest of my clothes or trying to buy a very small selection to stop me from hoarding them again.

I'd bought a few things in smaller sizes from Vinted but the cost was adding up considerably so I've stopped that now.

I will keep a handful of 14s and possibly 16s just in case I put weight on when I finish MJ. I don't ever want to get above a 16 again though.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 27/06/2024 08:37

End of week 4 for me another loss
SW 110kg
CW 105.1kg
GW 64kg
Loss 4.9kg

I am going to use a slightly bigger bonus dose today depending what’s in the pen ideally around 0.8ml using a syringe (just over 3mg)
I’ll then titrate on my 5mg pen down to 3:75 for a few weeks.

Tirzepatide · 27/06/2024 13:57

That's a good idea @ChazsBrilliantAttitude - I think I'll copy! I've got the same SW as you and coming to the end of week 2. Just ordered the syringes for the bonus dose, and was wondering whether to order another 2.5 mg next week (ready for next month) or go up to 5 mg - I think this has decided it it.

SW 109.6 kg
CW 106.6 kg

WeAllHaveWings · 27/06/2024 14:56

First injection on Saturday, 5 days later have lost 9lbs 😱 but that might be down to spending last 4 days off work in bed with covid (first time I’ve had it!) and eating pretty much nothing much more than a slice of toast with a little jam each day. 🤦🏻‍♀️. Absolutely done in and zero appetite.

No idea if the headaches are due to temperature/dehydration/virus (I am trying to drink as much as possible) or mounjaro. No idea if appetite suppression is body fighting virus or mounjaro.

Question is, should I power on and inject on schedule on Saturday or give my body time to recover and skip a week? WWYD?

JessicaPeach · 27/06/2024 20:06

Hi All, can I join you please?

I ordered my first pen yesterday and it's arriving tomorrow. Cannot wait!

I'm 5'10 and weigh 16 stone 12 - 236lbs. I'm aiming for 163lbs which is a weight I remember feeling great at. 202lbs and 181lbs are previous weights when I've thought 'oh shit I need to go on a diet' I had a heavy set of twins in 2021 and I actually weigh 10lbs more now than the day before I had them. I have an awful diastasis recti which id like to sort out with surgery but will need to lose a significant amount of weight to make that worthwhile and also losing weight may help improve it. @Everdecreasingcircumferences your post resonated with me as it's not even really the weight that bothers me, it's the giant, barrel like abdomen, I just look awful in everything and my choice is limited by my size now too.

I've always been quite successful at losing weight by diet but it's a big mountain to climb this time, and it's not really the right season of my life to be in the right headspace so I'm hoping this gives me the nudge in the right direction.

I would love to lose a stone in the first month as I would be able to achieve that on ww or something like that so hoping this is comparable without the endless planning and counting food and trying to squirrel away calories for coke and treats.

Alicewondersalot · 27/06/2024 21:03

@WeAllHaveWings Sorry you’re feeling rough with covid. I would probably delay by a couple of days til I felt better to have the next jab.

@JessicaPeach Welcome! I know the feeling of wanting to lose weight at a better rate than what you can normally achieve on a diet alone because I wanted the same to justify the cost but I’ve settled into MJ and am happy with losing slowly. There is an ease I’ve not experienced before, no food noise, not having my head full of food and diet thinking, which makes it worth it!

MrsClownland · 28/06/2024 09:05

Is the extra dose people talk of in a Wegovy pen too? Has anyone measured how much it actually is?

oreo2024 · 28/06/2024 09:23

Hello. End of week 6 check-in here. 0 lbs lost in the last week. My frustration is at the highest! Took my first full 5 mg dose today (last week was transitional 4 mg and the week before - bonus dose). Feeling very, very unhappy... but I am won't be a quitter. The battle goes on.
SW 108.3kg (started 17.05.2024)
CW 102.4kg

Twwodoorsaway · 28/06/2024 09:52

I’m also struggling with a slow patch. I am just over 100kg now (started 18mo ago on Ozempic and have lost 24kg, now on 7.5mg Mounjaro) but this year has been really slow despite feeling like I’m eating a lot less. Historically I’ve always struggled with the drop below 100kg with other diets so it’s not unexpected. Having said that I have lost my holiday weight gain of 2.5kg in the last month so I know it’s going, but I was so hopeful to see 99 on the scales today and it didn’t happen. I’m going to try to exercise a bit more this week - the hot weather has even limited my dog walks this week so that may the reason for the only 200g loss this morning.

Nice to see others joining us now, good luck to new starters, this drug is life changing!

JessicaPeach · 28/06/2024 09:57

I'm sitting at the window like a dog waiting for mine to arrive so I can do it straight away! Hopefully the postman won't leave me waiting all day!

WoolyMammoth55 · 28/06/2024 10:16

Hi @JessicaPeach , welcome! Hope you have a great loss but just in case you are a slower loser (like me) - I'd encourage you not to worry... it's a marathon not a sprint! 😍

It's worth it for me mostly because of the mental peace. I just don't really think about food. I don't raid the cupboards, I don't scarf leftovers, I don't fantasise about takeaway treats. I just eat when I'm hungry - and full disclosure, one or two days a month, I overeat slightly due to hormones! :) But compared to what had been normal for me before - the change is MASSIVE!

I'm have a lot to lose - SW 130kg, GW 75kg, CW 122 - I'm "only" 8kg down in 9 weeks but (unlike WW or SW) I could do this forever! It just feels to me like a better way to live than before! No food stress - it's amazing. I think adding in exercise is the next thing I need to do - and I'm also titrating up slowly so might see more losses on higher doses. But basically a lifer on this medicine if I can keep getting it! x

[[ Also please forgive me gang, I'm just dropping my Voy code here for £85 off your first pen - they're a great provider with coaching and medical calls included, good accurate delivery, and if you sign up to them you get your own code to share for 50% or 100% your next pens - so free MJ! 🤗

MoreThanJustANumber · 28/06/2024 11:43

Thank you @WoolyMammoth55 I needed to read your post today.

We were a similar starting weight and I'm losing slowly too and was reading the other thread yesterday where someone was saying 'if you're only losing 1lb a week and you've got lots to lose then you need to go up a dose', – I'm as high as I can be at this point (10mg with a 12.5 in the fridge), so I got a bit downhearted. They were losing 4 or 5lb a week but my body just isn't working like that.

I know I must stop comparing myself to others and reading your post reminds me that it's not just the weight loss that is good about this drug. Not being constantly obsessed with food is such a massive bonus. THANK YOU!

oreo2024 · 28/06/2024 11:43

@JessicaPeach welcome, hope that parcel arrives soon!
@Twwodoorsaway I can soo related with being just over 100kg and struggling to get under to that long awaited 99, and then never going back to three digits again..
@WoolyMammoth55 the mental peace is an important factor. Unfortunately I am still hungry (albeit more manageable). Will it ever go?

WoolyMammoth55 · 28/06/2024 12:05

@oreo2024 Oh god I'm no expert! What dose are you on lovely?

I think what you're eating is really important - are you getting lots of protein and veg and are you drinking LOADS of water? Those are things that I've been doing since the start and I think that help me a lot - I mostly feel satiated and have had very few side effects.

Last week when premenstrual cravings hit I ate a packet of the kids gummy sweets and I felt rough after, and also slightly craving - that downwards sugar spiral!! Luckily it was late so I went to bed instead of pigging out more, but it was definitely a closer call than is normal for me on MJ...

No idea if that's helpful hun. Wish you all the best X

JessicaPeach · 28/06/2024 18:54

It was delivered at 18.22! Long day! First does done already. Really easy. I had gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy and was on insulin so a very familiar process

ClonedSquare · 28/06/2024 21:31

@JessicaPeach Well done, fingers crossed it's kicked in when you wake up! I also had GD with my pregnancy and I was never on insulin, but the idea always terrified me. Knowing that insulin needles are like this Mounjaro one has actually reassured me a little, I was picturing massive vaccination needles! I think I'd actually rather have used these needles for insulin than the awful finger prick ones!

Oh yes it's exactly the same as insulin, you don't feel a thing. And agree, I used to dread the finger pricks and have cried over the blood thinners, these types of needles are an absolute doddle in comparison.

Also side note, insulin made gestational diabetes much easier too, mine was so tough to manage before then, the insulin was amazing, very positive experience (in case it happens to you again!)
