Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

@KeepingUndercover thanks! Me too 😬

Great NSV 👍🏼

I bought a size 20 navy linen trousers on Vinted that are really nice but I can’t zip them up quite yet. Hoping before the end of the summer I can.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 13/06/2024 07:13

End of week 2 and I’m down another 0.8kg. Total loss is 2.5kg.
SW 110kg
CW 107.5kg
GW 64kg

Feel like the appetite suppression is wearing off a bit earlier. I am going to try moving my injection site from my thigh to my abdomen to see if that helps a bit this week. I’ve ordered a 5mg pen and will titrate up to 5 when I’ve finished this pen.

Excited to update today as Ive hit a 10kg loss today !

Been on MJ 8.5 weeks and just moved up to 5mgs this week.
Minimal side effects, mild constipation and occasional nausea , but nothing too bad. Feeling positive, eating healthy stuff and exercising.

My BMI was 41.8 and is now 38.1.
Friends have noticed the weight loss ,which is lovely to hear and clothes getting loose. Feel much more comfortable walking about. Not feeling deprived or restricted.

I told my DH after the first month and he is being supportive but not that interested tbh... hasnt even asked how much it costs yet which is hugely surprising! But he is impressed with the weight loss along with healthy eating and exercise, rather than faddy shakes or starvation modes. And obviously pleased it working.

Thanks to these threads Im so glad I started. So pleased @VelociraptorsVelociRapping gave me the push to start pre holiday and not delay further. The info and support on these threads makes me feel supported and never alone. This really is life changing for me.

Keep going everyone. We've got this!
Im excited to start loosing my next 10kgs!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 13/06/2024 07:38

@omega4ever Congratulations on hitting that milestone

May I join please?

Started Wegovy a week ago, due 2nd dose today. Lost 4lbs in week 1 which I’m pleased with. Roll on week 2!

I am an amputee, and I have other stuff going on too including hypermobility and widespread arthritis.

Because of this I never walk more than 5 thousand steps a day (infact 5000 would be an amazing unheard of win!) and I use crutches and a wheelchair.

I lost a lot of weight the year before last when I had issues with acid reflux/chest pain and I just wasn’t bothered by food. Unfortunately as I started the right meds and healed the weight had piled back on.

I started swimming in May and am currently doing that minimum 3 days a week. I find I am thinking of food all the time so thought I would give Wegovy a go.

Its been interesting. I’m not fussed with food and struggling to finish meals, very much having to push myself into eating. I have had extreme fatigue and I was sick yesturday, however as I’m quite complex medically I’m not sure if that’s down to Wegovy or the 2 different infections I currently am fighting.

Currently I feel like I’ll keep on with Wegovy but if I’m still unwell once I have finished this course of antibiotics I might need to swap to Mounjaro.

I just want to walk/mobilise a little bit more and not be in pain. Every time my weight shifts I have to go and get measured for a new prosthetic limb and it’s a mission. I need to get stable and stay at a comfy weight.

Oh I’m also peri menopausal so yaaay! 😬

sorry for the essay everyone, I have enjoyed reading all your journeys up to now and I shall keep you posted!

Sunshineandrainbow · 13/06/2024 08:57

Holding off on this week's dose as I have an infected gallbladder.

Felling very sorry for myself and just hoping I don't have to stop completely.

Keep going everyone.

KeepingUndercover · 13/06/2024 15:31

Oh no @Sunshineandrainbow, I hope it clears up soon and doesn't become a big problem.

Eminybob · 13/06/2024 17:39

I have hit the 10kg total loss zone this week, which week 7. It's also 10% off my starting weight. About a third of the way to target, which feels more achievable now.

oreo2024 · 13/06/2024 21:18

Congrats for all your losses.
I have my week 4 weigh in tomorrow, and feeling very down. Week 3, I lost nothing. Week 3.5, I put back on 0.4kg. I ate the same as in week 1 and week 2 so at a loss why the weight is going up. More importantly, I feel starved and bloated. This is where disappointment kicks in ..... Will check in tomorrow.

OldGreyBoots · 13/06/2024 21:23

Sorry, maybe TMI, but is anyone else peeing like there's no tomorrow? I'm almost at the end of my first week on 5mg, I'm definitely not drinking more than usual (probably not drinking nearly enough!) but I'm really needing the loo every hour! Getting my steps in going to the toilet at least Grin

KeepingUndercover · 14/06/2024 08:16

@OldGreyBoots I always get this when losing weight. I think it's your body getting rid of stuff, I try and make sure to drink lots to counter it.

KeepingUndercover · 14/06/2024 08:18

A little milestone here. I know we're all meant to tuck our tops in now, but I basically never did because it never looked better on me. Genuinely. But I put my new trousers on yesterday and a top and I'm now at the point where tucking actually does look better. My waist has appeared more and I'm losing that double belly look.

Sunshineandrainbow · 14/06/2024 08:34

That sucks @oreo2024 I understand why it's getting you down.
Are you going to the toilet OK and drinking enough?

LeafUsAlone · 14/06/2024 08:37

It is listed as a side effect, both frequency and quantity can be increased!

Fromthesidelines · 14/06/2024 09:25

@oreo2024 I'm nearly 3 weeks in and weight loss minimal so far despite healthy eating and calorie deficit, so I empathise.
Keep telling myself that 2.5 is a loading dose only, but on the other hand, in and of themselves, the drugs don't cause weight loss just enable you to stick to a calorie deficit more easily. So as I'm doing that, I'm not sure higher doses will change that.
So my thinking now is that I will always be a slow loser and might take longer than most to get there but the jabs will stop me doing my usual 'fuck it' moment a few weeks in as I'm hungry all the time and the scales aren't shifting much. If that makes sense?

oreo2024 · 14/06/2024 09:27

@Sunshineandrainbow my water intake and bowel movements are fine Grin

4 weeks check in:
Week 1 -2kg
Week 2 -2.4kg
Week 3 -0kg
Week 4 - 0.6kg (and +0.4kg mid week)

Total loss: -5kg
CW: 103.3kg

I will try and get out the bonus dose from my 2.5 MJ pen and top up from 5.0 pen if necessary. Will be aiming for 3.75- 4.0 as a transitional dose to 5.0.

Slightly disappointed with the last 2 weeks, though can't complain with the overall loss. Hope the 5.0 injections will kick it off, as I still feel starved!

oreo2024 · 14/06/2024 09:31

@Fromthesidelines I absolutely dig the 'Fuck it' moment and can sympathise with your feeling! I had given up so many times when the loss was barely there and I was permanently ravenous. I am also hoping that 5.0 will be able to tone down the hunger.

Sunshineandrainbow · 14/06/2024 09:43

Are you having enough protein @oreo2024 @oreo2024

How about posting a typical day food as people might have ideas for you.

oreo2024 · 14/06/2024 09:48

@Sunshineandrainbow yes enough protein. I have to top up with protein powder, as there is only so much eggs and mackerel I can eat.

oreo2024 · 14/06/2024 13:33

I have cocked up. I messed up my bonus dose in the 2.5 pen, I didn't manage to count the clicks and have no idea how much was in the bonus dose. I added 1.0 from the 5.0 pen for a good measure (that's 12 clicks, right?)

Choux · 14/06/2024 13:40

A full 0.6ml dose is 2.5mg. If you hardtwisted to 1 then that should have been a full dose so another 2.5mg. How does the pen look now?

oreo2024 · 14/06/2024 14:01

The twist wasn't hard and the pen is now empty. There was up until the red line (roughly) for the bonus dose.

Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose
oreo2024 · 14/06/2024 14:01

But I didn't see 1 when turned it all

Choux · 14/06/2024 14:49

That's now completely empty so If the plunger was at the last marker on the glass when you started twisting you have had between 2.5mg and 3.3mg from that pen. And you said you took another 1mg as you thought you had underdosed? So that would be 3.5-4.3mg.

You may feel strong suppression and possibly some nausea or other side effects for a few days. Try to eat low fat, nutritious food and drink water. Hopefully you will be fine and you have just set yourself up for a big loss this week!

oreo2024 · 14/06/2024 15:03

@Choux I'd happy to set myself for a big loss yes 🙌 i was aiming for 3.5-4.0, before taking 5.0 next week, so hopefully it's the right increase for me.
