Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 26/04/2024 08:41

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

But I didn't see 1 when turned it all

If it didn't go to 1 then you have had less than a full dose, but it may be only a little less.

Sunshineandrainbow · 15/06/2024 09:22

Haven't weighed for 2 weeks as I find this easier when results are small. Have lost 3 lb which I am chuffed with as had my birthday too and had cake.
I need to be extra careful this week with not doing a dose due to gallbladder issues.

Start weight 18.4
Today's weight 16.9

One person has noticed this loss which surprises me. Although I get awkward when people ask me if I have lost weight so I have to be pleased no one has commented.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 15/06/2024 11:37

Excellent loss @Sunshineandrainbow
Sorry to hear about your gallbladder. A week of maintenance eating may even benefit your diet. There is research that suggests alternating between calorie deficits and maintenance can shake up your metabolism so it doesn’t get stuck in “diet mode”.

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 15/06/2024 18:42

Sorry to hear you've had issues, @Sunshineandrainbow. Can I ask if the doctor you're seeing for your gall bladder has been able to advise you on whether you can restart Mounjaro?

mmgirish · 16/06/2024 08:59

So I've just taken my 3rd 0.25mg of ozempic. The glass cylinder of liquid that you can see doesn't seem to be depleting. Is that normal?

She said unable to tell if it's related so to not take this week's dose and restart next week if I want to.
To be honest I don't know how I feel about restarting but have recently bought a 7.5 pen.

I would be gutted to stop as this is the only thing that has ever helped me lose weight.

Would be keen to hear what other people think.

KeepingUndercover · 16/06/2024 11:19

@Sunshineandrainbow It's hard to know not being in the situation, but I think I'd be pretty reluctant to continue. I know a couple of people who had to have their gallbladders removed (not weightloss related) and it just seemed so miserable. Maybe I'd try a lower dose rather than jumping straight back in. It's very hard.

If the doctor isn't completely against you trying again that is something though.

I'm not familiar with those pens so not sure. Hopefully someone on Wegovy will know.

SakuraTrees · 16/06/2024 11:31

@mmgirish turn the pen one click and press button. If you see a drop on needle then it should working fine.

I am glad I mentioned it to her, I knew med express had informed my gp I was on it and I felt when I mentioned it she was supportive and I have looked and she has written it on my notes.

I will see how I am after my antibiotics have finished and if I get the pain in the night I have had before this episode. Previously the pain has eased after 30 mins but this time it didn't stop hence my trip to the gp.

I def don't want to put onto an already strained nhs through something I have self inflicted.

On the other hand it could be completely unrelated.

I need to do some more research.

Thanks for your post.

Choux · 16/06/2024 14:07

Sorry to hear you aren't well. I have seen there are a few threads on the US Mounjaro redit site about gallbladder issues. The view seems to be that gallbladder issues are tied to rapid weight loss in general rather than Mounjaro. Any method used for rapid weight loss increases your incidence of gallstones.

So maybe you need to go slow and steady on a low dose. See what your GP advises.

I got my DP a large box of chocolates from the kids as part of his Father's Day gifts. My old self definitely came out when he opened them - I had 6 which was almost 400 calories 😓. I felt the greed raise its head but was more restrained than usual as pre MJ I would have tried all 10 flavours then had a few more of my favourites. I feel like I don't want any more now though, whereas pre MJ I would have been dipping into them every time I passed the box.

SevernWonders · 16/06/2024 18:50

Exactly the same PON22, it is like MJ has given me an internal pause button that stops me from grabbing stuff to eat

Tirzepatide · 16/06/2024 19:22

Hello 😊

I took my first dose of Mornjaro on Friday late afternoon and did my baseline WI (109.6 kg/241.6 lbs/17 st 3.6 lbs/BMI 41.0 kg/m3). Heaviest ever. Long history of yo yo dieting.

Definitely saying goodbye to the very frequent wine habit I keep going back to now (and the rubbish eating that often goes with it). Hoping that this really long stint on MJ will permanently change my habits.

I've definitely been eating less but I can't really say whether that is simply due to motivation/timing/placebo effect/changing what I eat. I'm try to really focus on protein and fibre.

I got an extra 3 doses put of my 0.25 pen so the little thing inside didnt move along very far each time at all. As sakura says, turn the pen to the little droplet picture and press to release, if you see it fire out then you should be fine.

CountJaro · 16/06/2024 21:43

Hello!

I have 30kg to lose, probably 33kg to be precise!

I started on Tuesday. I get it from the NHS as I have T2D. Looking forward to losing with you all Grin

MrsClownland · 16/06/2024 22:07

Hello, not sure if you're open to new joiners?
My first pen or Wegovy arrived at the weekend and I'm going to take it in a couple of days. Now kind of wishing I'd gone for MJ as people seem to talk more positively about this.
I could definitely lose 5 or 6. Instead; I've been losing one and gaining two for most of my life!

I’ve still have the urge to eat chocolate. It’s not compulsive anymore and I haven’t wanted to restrict it completely either because I often wonder when I come off of MJ I’ll need to have learnt to feel satisfied with eating it in moderation.

Alicewondersalot · 16/06/2024 23:03

Welcome all the newbies and on everyone’s losses!

I managed to sort myself out with the constipation (3 almost 4 days of not being able to go and feeling so bloated and crap) and I am back to my regular morning 💩 and my suppression is back, however, my period is nowhere to be seen and is now 10 days late. It is a bit tricky to know if it is definitely MJ because my periods have been on and off for the last two years (regular for months and then suddenly I miss one or I have an extra one two weeks later) which might be down to perimenopause 🤔

Weight loss stalled for me but hopefully now I am no longer bunged up I will see some movement this week 🤞

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 16/06/2024 23:31

@Alicewondersalot I'm not bothered about chocolate anymore, I just have the odd kitkat. I've reduced my crisp intake dramatically but still 'need' several bags a week.
I've found myself slipping back into the weekly takeaways though - when I started MJ I agreed 1 per month with my DP. That's quickly slid into adding one every time I hit a weight goal or we have something to celebrate. I'm actually craving them more than I was before I started MJ 🫣.

it’s so interesting how this drug affects different people. The biggest cause of my weight gain was my love for takeaways and wine. Since starting I’ve had zero desire for either. I have had 3 over the past 2 months at my husband’s request but I ate 2 slices of pizza rather than demolishing the entire thing! I’ve found that wine and takeaway food was the biggest detriment to my dieting and bank account but I really enjoyed sitting all cosy on the sofa with a glass of wine watching a film/tv series. Since the desire for these have gone I’ve definitely not felt the dopamine rushes and I’ve felt unsure on what to do with myself on an evening. I’ve since started crocheting and a ‘late night’ for me is 9pm.

Has anyone else felt similar and found the dopamine rushes come back? I’m still quite young but have found myself picking up the same behaviours of my 69 year old grandmother which is fine but I still want to enjoy my life! 😂

Psiren · 17/06/2024 07:22

I'm still really struggling with feeling awful. I'm so so bloated and uncomfortable, I've barely eaten for over a week, disgusting sulphur burps, no appetite. To make things worse my weight loss has completely stalled its over 2 weeks since I lost any weight at all. I'm seriously considering giving up using MJ now, I can't keep feeling like this. ☹️

KeepingUndercover · 17/06/2024 07:46

@Psiren what dose are you on at the moment? It took me a good few weeks to adjust to 5mg but it's much better now. Those side effects do sound grim though and I understand why you're questioning if it's worth it. Especially if you're not seeing weight loss effects.

Psiren · 17/06/2024 07:52

@KeepingUndercover I'm on 5mg, the 1st 2 doses were fine then I had dose 3 and I've not felt right since. I had the 4th dose on Saturday in the hope the side effects would wear off but I regret having it now. I think if I'm no better by next Saturday and my next dose then I'll have to stop.

Choux · 17/06/2024 07:55

You could go back to 2.5mg and then count clicks to build up really slowly eg 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5mg.

But if you aren't losing weight then what is the benefit of staying on it.
