Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 26/04/2024 08:41

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

My new pen would be used in 5 weeks if I do it that way, which it would be anyway with using the bonus dose so I'm happy enough with that. I'll order the 7.5mg and take the 1st dose before I go and take the 5mg pen bonus dose while I'm away, I think it works out slightly more than 5mg anyway so hopefully it'll have a good effect. I don't want to leave it 2 weeks between doses, it's working so well and I have so much to lose that I don't want anything hindering the progress I'm making. I've already got in my head there are going to be far less cocktails and treats on this holiday.

Psiren · 09/06/2024 22:38

@Onamission41 you sound exactly like me and my attitude to food. Mounjaro is a miracle drug for me and I no longer view food in this way. Its literally just fuel now. I hope it works for you!!

Onamission41 · 09/06/2024 22:46

@Psiren That is exactly what I am hoping for. I have my everything crossed that it has the same effect on me!

ClonedSquare · 10/06/2024 08:05

Just did my sixth injection last night. I've lost 5.5lbs this week so very happy with that!

Loss this week: 5.5lbs
Total loss: 18lbs in 5 weeks

Next mini goal: 1lb away
Next major goal: 21lbs away (target end of September)

Oblomov24 · 10/06/2024 08:13

I can't stomach ozempic. I've tried it twice, lowest possible dose, both times violently sick, first time so bad I was hospitalised. I tried it a year later, very badly sick, it's like my stomach just can't cope with it. So it's a no for me.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 10/06/2024 08:21

I was a bit concerned about getting the bonus dose as so many people had said they struggled. Maybe I am freakishly strong but it was pretty easy to twist hard and get the extra dose out. I did my first dose of 7.5mg last night by combining the bonus doses from my 2.5mg and 5mg pens.

Does anyone know of a pen recycling service?

KeepingUndercover · 10/06/2024 08:46

@VelociraptorsVelociRapping my first 5mg pen the bonus dose was a nightmare to get. The second one I barely twisted it at all before it gave up.

Weigh day today for me, down a pound (500g) which is fine. I had a big loss last week so a smaller one this week makes me feel a bit more balanced! I had a couple of nights out this week and had a drink each time (literally one drink one night and the other 2 glasses of prosecco). I felt hungover both times which was weird. I'm definitely happier not drinking at the moment.

LieutenantBilletsCajunFries · 10/06/2024 10:03

Hello all, well done on some amazing losses. I'll update since I don't think I have posted since my first week at the beginning of May, in case my experience is useful to any newbies.

I'm on Wegovy, the reason for this rather than Mounjaro is that I have a single gallstone and mild fatty liver changes so I can't lose weight too quickly. I was checked out with a scan before starting the meds and have been approved with my GP aware. I have been losing weight but at a rate of about 0.5 kilos a week.

I have lost about 3 kilos since starting, but I'll take that, since I have been hovering at the same weight since 2019 despite loads of periods of intermittent fasting, exercise etc. I've also got smaller and now a comfortable 18-20 rather than 20-22.

I have ADHD and have come to realise that I have been self medicating a lack of dopamine with sugar/carbs. I have always eaten small portions/healthy food, never really suffered with overeating or feeling hungry. But I have been totally addicted to sugar and the little boosts from making, baking and consuming "treat" food. Self soothing with snacky sugary stuff every evening has essentially been the root of my obesity. I have become an accomplished baker and pastry chef but at the cost of my own health over the last 25 years.

I did have a weird reaction during the second week of 0.25mg where I had an ocular migraine (weird rainbow zigzag vision) but managing my blood sugar better has meant there has been no reoccurrence.

I haven't had any side effects apart from a slight feeling of apathy to food and also to things in general (no gastric issues, no nausea etc). I think this could also be related to my ADHD as I navigate the dopamine issue. I have noticed better control over impulsive behaviours though - normally I do silly things like buy trainers in three colourways that I never return for the intended refund, or order loads of plants for the garden which then die because I don't get round to planting them etc. I have been able to make better decisions which is honestly really brilliant.

I find eating to appetite and choosing healthy protein rich options works best in terms of keeping on an even keel - and I am loving the lack of food noise and background obsession with calories and "what can I have?" etc. So liberating.

I am using Zavamed who deliver via Royal Mail. I have found them very reliable and have a 15% off code to share if it is useful to anyone. You will get 15% off and so will I if you use my code. You will then get your own code to share with others going forward. Thanks in advance if you use my code!

I have just taken my first dose, was ridiculously nervous but couldn't even feel it. I don't have any allergies to anything but for some reason I was terrified I was going to have an allergic reaction 😂 Have about 5.5 stone to lose so fingers crossed this helps because husband is being quietly shocked at how much it costs!

@Onamission41 I'm exactly the same and use food for every emotion possible. Good day? I'll treat myself. Bad day? I'll cheer myself up with food. I can't keep doing it.

@VelociraptorsVelociRapping there's a new injectables board now. As the OP do you want to ask MN to move us over?

seatallan · 10/06/2024 14:37

Glad to see a thread for people that have lots to lose!

I started mounjaro in May and I’m down 7.5kg in 6 weeks. For the first time in 4 years of dieting I’m feeling hopeful that I’ll be able to stick to it. I lost 20kg in 2021 and regained it all (plus extra) when I had to go on thyroid medication and had a couple of operations I’ve been miserable ever since.

I’ve got 42kg to lose until I’m at my ‘ideal’ weight for my height (short arse) but I’ll be happy if I can get 35kg off and keep it off.

Is anyone else suffering with extreme fatigue? I’m at the point of having to nap in the middle of the day. I do have illnesses that cause fatigue but this worse than my normal.

After feeling like my weight loss wasn't showing up in my clothes, all of a sudden everything is too big on me. That thing where even you belt stuff it's sliding down and trousers are saggy round the bum. And I can't even belt them tight enough as my belt is now too big. 😂

I had extreme fatigue the first couple of months. I started taking iron and magnesium supplements, as well as making sure I ate more veg and protein and that helped. 8 months in and my energy levels are great - not sure if it was just a temporary effect or if it was a nutritional thing that I have now addressed.

just hit a bmi < 25 this week, so very much worth the initial adjustment for me!

RagzRebooted · 11/06/2024 15:17

I have been getting awful fatigue, seems to have lifted the last 3 or 4 days, but I'm going up dose slightly tomorrow so fully expecting it to return. I take supplements, haven't found any that fix it yet! I'm eating enough, so it isn't that.
Annoying because the first few weeks on Mounjaro I had loads of energy!

Ghilliedu · 11/06/2024 18:41

I have the fatigue too, usually only does the first couple of days after a jab but I can barely stay awake sometimes!

ClonedSquare · 11/06/2024 18:45

I've just had almost no appetite this week (second week on 5mg). I'm hoping it's just because of this cold I also have, as I don't want to be struggling to eat healthily.

Psiren · 11/06/2024 21:56

After doing so well and being confident in moving up to 7.5mg in two doses time (and ordered the 7.5 pen!) I am having an awful week. I'm so bloated and full feeling, I've barely eaten since Saturday. When I do eat its something soft or liquid (yogurt or soup) it's got so bad I'm even struggling with drinking anything. I feel revolting. ☹️

Havetobeme · 12/06/2024 11:03

Hi all I am 312lb (over 22 stone) and feeling disgusting. Can't get any weight off which at this size should be easier. So I'm about to order my first pen. Anyone have a zava code they want using?

Havetobeme · 12/06/2024 11:06

@LieutenantBilletsCajunFries I'm using your code - thank you

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 12/06/2024 11:11

@Havetobeme you are overweight but that neither makes anything about you disgusting nor does it make you less valuable as a person.

If losing weight was easy then obesity rates wouldn’t be what they are and these medications wouldn’t be hailed as game changing.

We are all here for the long haul and you are very welcome to join us.

I think disgusting is a poor choice of word. I just don't feel like me anymore. I have such awfully low self esteem and being the biggest I've ever been whilst not being able to get any of it off has made me feel so worthless and like a failure. I am hoping to get something of myself back when I lose some of this stubborn weight 🤞

Havetobeme · 12/06/2024 11:36

9th week for me and not going so well!

I’ve put on 2lbs, super constipated (senna not working so now taken some stronger stuff but still waiting for relief - tried massage and acupressure points too), my period is 6 days late, I’m bloated, and I have had much less suppression than normal 🥺

Hoping this might be just a hormonal/totm storm in a tea cup that will be over soon but who knows!?

KeepingUndercover · 12/06/2024 13:00

Fingers crossed you get some relief soon @Alicewondersalot.

I've had to go shopping because my clothes really don't fit anymore. I bought a pair of size 18 trousers in Next (was a 22 in Next previously, occasionally a 24). I'm more of an 18/20, different pair of trousers the 18 was too tight and the 20 was good. But it's nice to see the weight loss reflected in clothing. And I'm just at that point where I can find my size in a standard shop.
