Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 26/04/2024 08:41

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

Great achievement @PissedOffNeighbour22 you must be delighted!

@Eminybob thats great you have come out of the other side of the sickness. I am in the same position as you and was sick any time I tried to up my dose. I almost gave up too! But am persevering on a split dose!

and that brings me to my first weigh in after splitting my dose - lost 2lbs! I am delighted with that. That brings me to just over 20lbs in 9 weeks. Still a looooong way to go and nobody has noticed yet but I feel so much better

That's brilliant @RMNofTikTok!

Thank you, I seem to be losing weight really quickly at the minute but eating more now the side effects have gone 🤔

ClonedSquare · 08/06/2024 13:18

NSV - my warm coat zips up now with plenty of room to move, rather than being skintight.

New side effect- freezing cold all the time so having to wear my warm coat zipped up more often!

I have ordered from Asda who use DPD who have failed to delivery twice (and at the end of the delivery window to boot). I am not going to rearrange as the dose is now not usable - they can send it back to Asda. I have raised a complaint with Asda and requested refund. I ordered on Saturday, approved Monday should have been delivered Tuesday to Thursday. First try by DPD was Thursday we were in but they didn’t come to the door. Friday, late, then said we were not in when didn’t even try. Lying b DPD. So Asda really expect their customers to be at beck and call of DPD, to place an order and have no idea at all of either the day or time when package will be delivered?

So wasn't planning to change pharmacy but am now. Any suggestion for those who do guaranteed next day delivery? Ideally using post office/ parcel force and not useless courier companies?

Back from my 5 days away and I reckon I was eating between 1600 and 2000 calories a day plus a large takeaway last night. Weighed in this morning and I've lost almost 2lb 🤔.

The small drop means I've gone over the 3 and a half stone loss mark and my bmi is now 30.1, down from 40 when I started.

I've not denied myself a lot, but I've stayed more mindful of what I've been eating. I haven't eaten as large a portion of anything than I would have before MJ. My DP has been stuffing himself with sweets in the car while driving and I just wasn't bothered, before MJ I'd have been nibbling on sweets every day trip.

Well done to others posting losses this week, and to us all for sticking with it and not giving in 🎉.

That's amazing holiday loss and fantastic loss so far. What dose are you up to?

MrsBurtMacklin · 08/06/2024 15:00

@Eminybob I just say that I'm trying to lose weight and also "I'm still full from having a big lunch too" or something if I only manage to eat a little bit.

lurkylurk · 08/06/2024 15:02

@Eminybob

I'd just say I was busy and ended up having a very late lunch so not really hungry.

Alicewondersalot · 08/06/2024 15:19

@PissedOffNeighbour22 @Ghilliedu congrats on your losses! 🙌

Joining in, just did my first jab 20 mins ago.

Inspired and encouraged by all of you doing so well, I'm hoping to lose 6 stone in total but will take it half a stone at a time.

Can I ask if many/any of you used to eat when you weren't hungry? That (and not recognising when I should stop eating) are my biggest downfalls. Boredom eating I suppose, or just for the pleasure of it Blush

Really hoping this helps!

Welcome ☀️ - and yes I would eat when I wasn’t hungry. I’ve found on MJ I have so much more time, so I now focus on other things rather than food!

Also I get full quicker on MJ and unless I want heartburn later I stop now.

Hi all! End of week 5 for me and I've lost 11.8lb! I can't believe it! I know it's not the fastest weight loss in the world but I'm very happy with it!

Whoop! 🙌

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 08/06/2024 16:54

@RagzRebooted I'm still on 7.5 as I had to have two 5mg pens when they didn't release 7.5 in time a couple of months back. I think I have a couple of doses left before I move onto 10mg.

@Dogsbreath7 I need to change pharmacy too and would have gone back to Asda if it wasn't for bloody dpd. They're next to useless and I'm not risking them with an expensive medication. I think I might end up using zava with one of the referral codes from someone on this thread or the main MJ one if that's the cheapest way.

mmgirish · 08/06/2024 18:02

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude that's a good thing to remember actually.

Sunshineandrainbow · 08/06/2024 20:09

Just drawn out remaining drug in my pen and injected it. Wow I don't want to do that too often, quite different to the tiny needles used with the pen. I don't think I went in far enough as some liquid tricked down my tummy. Hopefully at least some went in.

Ouch! But worth it for sure :) How long between the last injection and your next injection do you take the extra dose?

I used Zava and they use royal mail. They gave a delivery window when I ordered.. it was approved Sunday, dispatched Monday and arrived Tuesday morning as the tracking link said. Bonus of Zava is the referral codes and general cheaper than Asda - I switched from them for my last order

Psiren · 09/06/2024 14:29

Afternoon all, looking for a bit of advice. I've got 2 doses left in my 5mg pen and am due to go on holiday in 2 and a half weeks. I thought I'd got 3 doses left so would be taking the pen with only 1 dose left in it but I worked it out wrong. Now I am having brilliant suppression on 5mg but still wanted to move up to 7.5mg to keep momentum going. I feel really reluctant to take a brand new pen away with me as it'll be out the fridge a long time. So do I stay on 5mg, start a new pen at home and just take my old pen with 1 dose left in it on holiday or go to 7.5mg and risk taking a new pen away with me? I can't miss a dose as away for 12 days so it would be too long between doses. Please help my indecisive brain!

WoolyMammoth55 · 09/06/2024 15:09

Hi @Psiren did you get the 'bonus' dose out of your 2.5 pen?

I withdrew mine with 2 x insulin syringes (on 2 different dose days!) and got 0.3 and 0.4 ml, so 0.7 total, which is 110% of a dose.

So if you're comfortable to do that then you easily could get the 'bonus' dose out on holiday and leave the new pen at home?

I'm away at the end of July and need to think about getting my August pen ordered early or it will arrive when we're on holiday - so that's something else to think about! Make sure the new pen is safely in the fridge before you go?

All that said, I'm away for almost a month so will definitely be taking a full pen with me and I'm assuming that with a little cool bag and icepack in my hand luggage I'll be fine...

Anyone else can confirm that they've got a cool pack through airport security?

Psiren · 09/06/2024 15:16

@WoolyMammoth55 The 2 doses left in the 5mg pen are the 4th dose and the bonus dose so I'll either need to order the 7.5mg and take away a full new pen or order another 5mg and use that then take the bonus dose pen away with me. 🤔

@Psiren I'd be temped to take 7.5 a week early (or count the clicks and take 5mg from the 7.5mg pen) and take the 5mg pen with one dose in it away with you.

Psiren · 09/06/2024 20:13

@MrsBurtMacklin That's a great idea, thanks! I'm going to do that. ☺️

Dogsbreath7 · 09/06/2024 22:10

@Psiren you can have up to a two week break. You will stall but this is a long game and not better to enjoy your holiday?

Also pens are meant to be used up within 4 weeks so I wouldn’t want to deliberately start the 7.5 mg then leave at home for weeks.

if you want to continue taking correct dose it put it in hold luggage with ice pack?

Onamission41 · 09/06/2024 22:30

Hi everyone- I've just taken my first dose! Hoping I don't experience too many side effects. In this for the long haul as I have a lot to lose (around 7 stone). Over the years I have tried every way of losing weight. I can lose, but I can not keep it off. I am a hugely emotional eater - I eat when when I am happy to "treat myself" and eat when I am sad to "make myself feel better". I'm hoping the appetite suppression will help this, alongside some counselling.

KeepingUndercover · 09/06/2024 22:30

@Dogsbreath7 it's not recommended to put it in the hold. The temperature isn't stable in airplane holds and it's at risk of freezing. Taking it in hand luggage is fine though.

Nellyona · 09/06/2024 22:34

I’ve got 47kg to loose too , I’m all over the place now , wanna start 16:8 intermittent fasting and exercising at least 30min everyday .. everyone struggling or wanting to start we should maybe make WhatsApp group for accountability?
