Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

Are you sure because it really looks like you've done the fourth dose there. It looks like the plunger is on the final dose mark and what's left is the extra dose in there we talk about. There's 3 lines on the pen, first dose is halfway to the first line, then it's a dose each line.

Edited

Maybe your right, I have lost track to be honest and last time I got an email from medexpress to remind me to order a new pen which I haven't had.

Bet get on it.

Can see the next dose is £20 more expensive which is sad.

Joining in, just did my first jab 20 mins ago.

Inspired and encouraged by all of you doing so well, I'm hoping to lose 6 stone in total but will take it half a stone at a time.

Can I ask if many/any of you used to eat when you weren't hungry? That (and not recognising when I should stop eating) are my biggest downfalls. Boredom eating I suppose, or just for the pleasure of it Blush

Really hoping this helps!

WoolyMammoth55 · 06/06/2024 18:39

Hi @Justanothernametoday welcome to the club!

I'm an emotional / stress eater, with binge eating disorder and no 'off-switch'. Can eat a whole multipack of crisps, entire box of Celebrations at Xmas, etc etc. When I started MJ 5 weeks ago I was in a real downward spiral due to stress at work - would just log off the computer, get the kids to sleep, then sit on the sofa watching Netflix and eating endlessly to self-soothe...

First dose was a game-changer, felt like a switch got flipped. I've not been 100% perfect (chicken dippers have featured on the menu a couple of times!) BUT there was an instant, huge improvement.

I don't feel compulsive or obsessive about food. I'm on the sofa watching Netflix and eating an apple, or a little bunch of grapes, or having a herbal tea. I've also been walking more and doing some exercise videos - nothing hardcore! But pilates, yoga, qi gong, all of which I really like...

I feel really good and optimistic. I've got LOTS to lose but am almost a stone down after 5 weeks - slow compared to some! But great for me with my under-active thyroid and in full perimenopause. I think I'll take MJ for at least 12-18 months and am really excited for the journey.

Hope you'll find that it works as well for you!

Justanothernametoday · 06/06/2024 19:11

Wow @WoolyMammoth55 that's fantastic, and I'd be thrilled if I have similar results to yours.

I am also expecting to be using MJ for the long haul and am trying to see it as an investment in my future. I've always "got away" with being bigger, health wise, but I've also hit perimenopause and the aches and pains have accelerated scarily quickly.

CherryPickle · 06/06/2024 20:26

Just had my third injection.

Week 1: a lot of food noise gone and didn’t eat for the first two days. Appetite came back slowly after that. Lost 2kg.
Week 2: still very little food noise but appetite much stronger. Barely lost anything.
Total loss: 2.1kg. Not amazing but not shit either. Trying to remember some weeks I won’t lose and that’s normal.

When should I order my next pen? Medexpress emailed me in my second week but I’m hoping to use the extra dose either as a fifth week or to make my 2.5mg up to 3.5mg or so, as an interim before I go up to 5mg.

Order it any time from now so you know you have got it ready to go.

My week 3 check in. 0kg loss. Week 1 was 2kg and week 2 was 2kg. So this is kinda disappointing; food noise is still there and calorie deficit did not make a difference.
I will have to think that this week's non-loss sealed the loss of the previous weeks.. on to my 4th injection and hoping for a better week.

That's a fantastic loss for 3 weeks.

Keep going.

I am struggling at the moment as didn't jab Wednesday. I will get a needle at work tonight and extract from my needle, and find somewhere quiet to jab!

I have woke up thinking what can I eat today.

This makes me worried for when I stop the drug but can't think that far ahead yet. I hope I get to the stage where I enjoy the size I am and don't want to mess it up.

oreo2024 · 07/06/2024 08:55

@Sunshineandrainbow thank you.
It's hard and it's about changing thar mindset and realising that even slim people cannot eat what they want .. also learning to live with food noise is my goal.
I am permanently hungry anyway, so less hungry, more hungry, on MJ, not MJ, fat, slim - just got to accept it's not going away so just got to live with it.

Hey there, I saw people had mentioned hunger returning on day 5. This defo happened to me today. I'm on week 1, day 5 and hunger has definitely come back today. Hoping to manage it as best I can until the next injection on Sunday.

One thing I had to remind myself is that feeling hungry at mealtimes is normal. People who are a healthy weight feel hungry before meals. The key is that they eat sensible amounts and types of food the majority of the time.

Ghilliedu · 07/06/2024 13:39

So after the very helpful advice I got on this thread about splitting my dose I went for it last night. After doing 3mg on Saturday I did 2.5mg yesterday and so far so good. No nausea or sickness- although it’s been less than 24 hours so there’s still time!

I dont have massive suppression but I’m ok with that as I prefer to be able to eat proper meals, however I am definitely getting fuller more quickly and only managed half my lunch today.

if all goes well I will try 3mg on Tuesday and again on Sunday and keep upping it gradually.

thanks again for the help and support on here. Don’t know what I’d do without these threads. I’d definitely have given up!

frecklejuice · 07/06/2024 14:35

Can I join this? Ordered my first pen and I'm waiting for it to be delivered today.

I'm 45 currently 16st (100kg) and would like to lose about 4 stone, my BMI is 45.

I never share my weight but feel like writing it in here is going to give me the kick I need.

Very worried about side effects as I have anxiety as well but mostly I just really want it to work because I don't know where I'll go from here if it doesn't.

That's good to hear. Hope you continue to feel well.

Please can I ask how you know how much to draw out of the pen if the syringe is in mls?

frecklejuice · 07/06/2024 14:36

Can't edit my post but I want to lose 5 stone not 4!

For a whole dose it's 0.6ml

Is that for any strength? Thankyou

KeepingUndercover · 07/06/2024 18:07

Yes the amount is the same for all doses @Sunshineandrainbow

Frostfable · 07/06/2024 18:17

Hi everyone,

i took my first ever dose at midday today. Should i expect any symptoms? when did people feel less hungry?
thanks x

Alicewondersalot · 07/06/2024 21:09

Weigh in for week 8 for me today.

SW 20st 10.2lbs
CW 19st 6lbs

Super pleased to have lost 18lbs so far! I’m now on my 2nd 5mg after titrating up slowly. Side effects at a minimum other than a bit of heartburn occasionally. I am going to try and stay at this dose for as long as possible.

Hope you all have a great weekend whatever your plans!

Onwards and downwards 🙌

MrsBurtMacklin · 07/06/2024 22:04

Hey can I join? I'm on the other thread but I have a lot to lose as well.
SW was 263.6lbs and current weight is 239.4 lbs. I'm 10 weeks in, and have lost 24.2 lbs. I feel like I'll be on Mounjaro forever! I'm not even going to put a goal weight in because it seems kinda insurmountable. My next goal is 2 stone, and then I'll go from there.

I'm doing a second month of 5mg as I still get really bad nausea when I take it. Suppression wears off halfway through the week. I might try the split dosing I've seen some of you mention.

RMNofTikTok · 08/06/2024 00:33

Hi all! End of week 5 for me and I've lost 11.8lb! I can't believe it! I know it's not the fastest weight loss in the world but I'm very happy with it!

KeepingUndercover · 08/06/2024 10:41

That's brilliant @RMNofTikTok!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 08/06/2024 11:24

Back from my 5 days away and I reckon I was eating between 1600 and 2000 calories a day plus a large takeaway last night. Weighed in this morning and I've lost almost 2lb 🤔.

The small drop means I've gone over the 3 and a half stone loss mark and my bmi is now 30.1, down from 40 when I started.

I've not denied myself a lot, but I've stayed more mindful of what I've been eating. I haven't eaten as large a portion of anything than I would have before MJ. My DP has been stuffing himself with sweets in the car while driving and I just wasn't bothered, before MJ I'd have been nibbling on sweets every day trip.

Well done to others posting losses this week, and to us all for sticking with it and not giving in 🎉.

Eminybob · 08/06/2024 11:33

I seem to have gotten over the sickness hump with 5mg thank god! I was so so ill the last 2 weeks that I seriously considered quitting, even though my weight loss has been great. Glad I persevered as I'm been fine since my last jab. Going up to 7.5 in a couple of weeks fingers crossed the sickness doesn't come back then.

Any tips for dealing with eating out when you don't want to tell others you are taking MJ? I went out with some work colleagues last night, there were no salads or anything on the menu so ordered 2 small tacos. When they came out, everyone was like oh no that's so small have some of mine, etc, and made a massive fuss. And then I was only able to manage 1 and a half. People must have thought I was crackers! I was really embarrassed. How would you handle this other than just not eat out?
